yours was the one I found to be most unbelievable and in case you didn't notice, I wasn't the only one who found it unbelievable.

You responded to her post. What else would anyone think?
.o.
Thank you to everyone who responded to my post.
I may have not responded to everyone individually but really appreciate all of the responses, advice, and personal experiences.

Very encouraging messages from all of you.

TY
No, I did not at all! I responded to the post that a mom/MT cannot do both well.
If that is not the situation for you, so be it. I do not think, nor did I say, that you were a bad MT or parent. I simply said that mothers who work full time at home and choose to have their children at home also, can do both jobs well. That previous posts said that a mom/MT cannot do both jobs well.
Question for those who responded to Lasik eye surgery post
I had one dr. say I was not a candidate for lasik surgery and then this year went in for eye exam and was told that they couldn't understand why previous dr. said no when they felt I was.  I don't know which one to believe.  Also, 2nd dr. said he would do one eye for distance and other for close vision - is this hard to get used to?
You are the Sharon who posted above correct? The post that kyradmt responded to?

I feel people who feel like this post
needs to a) either be a stay at home mother and not work or b) realize that she is no queen bee and I could care less about a degree. What company out here that you know of compensates for having a degree? Means nothing to them. Your working and being there when they assign/need/require/whatever is what you should do IF YOU WANT A JOB in this field, otherwise get out and do something else or become that babysitter.
I used "normal" multiple times only because the post I responded to used "normal" as the

By normal I meant NOT sexually perverted, NOT socially inept, NOT desperate, etc.

I also posted later that maybe I misunderstood what the original poster was talking about. I originally thought she meant internet dating in general, but now it seems more like she means married men looking for "friends" online, which is totally different and not at all anything I have any knowledge of.

I have no idea, though, what your comment about "DC" is regarding. I didn't say anything at all about a "DC."

And why did you feel THIS post was directed at

Jodi, you feel free to post whenever you want to and if you see something

ugly posted, you just email me directly and I'll deal with it.  I am intolerant of people being mean on this site.  I can be reached at admin@mtstars.com.

On an episode of Dr. Phil I saw just the other day, he said that children have a hard enough time living outside of a broken home, but should never have to live INSIDE of a broken home.  Wise words, in my opinion.  I, personally, think you did the right thing and as long as you are taking care of your children and have a decent roof over their heads, he really can't do much.  Like you said, if he wants to partake in your children's upbringing then he can come to see them.  Unless you moved closer to your parents or siblings then you should probably sit tight where you are since you have a home church and people there who you can talk to.  Also, there are very caring people who post here regularly, so please don't give up on this site just because of a bad apple.

These threads always make me feel inadequate... I'm not about to post...

"Uh, I dunno.. I'l sling the freezer open at 6 oclock and toss some fish sticks and french fries on a cookie sheet and slice up some fruit."

Seems like everybody is so gourmet....

I feel kinda lazy reading your post as i'm content just

Where I feel crazy, I set a goal of around 300 lines an hour (ha! not with these dictators but 250 is still good), every two hours make a snack to get me moving.  I love juicing veggies and making fruit smoothies in the blender, coffee makes me nuts.  I also do calisthenics (sp?) every couple of hours for about three minutes to keep my blood flowing and keep toned.  I walk the dog two times a day for about 10 minutes to get energized from the sun and keep a good color.  I take an hour break to watch good ol Judge Judy, and fix myself something nice n yummy, and after Judy I crank out my last hour called the 'power hour' where I take no prisoners and smoke comes off my keyboard!  Like a race to the finish line.

I can't see how you could do the 20 and the 10 minute clean break, that would slow me down!  Maybe I should take cleaning breaks, because I never want to clean when I have a block of time off and the dirt just collects.

Sorry you feel that way, but we have never allowed offshore MTs to post on the MTStars website.

This is not something new, it's been this way since the beginning.  The ONLY difference we made was to allow US based MTSOs that offshore the ability to post job ads because they hire US QA Editors.

Of course you can, but there is a board for that purpose. Feel free to post on the Comedy Stop.

This post made you defensive, just like those e-mail nastygrams make us feel.

After about age 35-40 everything's picked over anyway.
All that's left are:

1. Some loser that his wife threw out. If someone else didn't want him, there had to be a good reason. I don't either.

2. Some mommy's boy who's lived at home decades beyond what is appropriate. Total head-case here. Cheap, immature, incapable of making a decision without Mom's involvement and approval. No thanks.

3. The fat, the bald, the lazy, the angry and anything else that the rest of the female population considers undesirable.

If you're over 40, get a pet. They love you nomatter what, they're always happy to see you and they're not in need of therapy and/or medication.
it can be picked up and what you are
transmitting or receiving can be monitored by others. hipaa, you know.
They could have at least picked a guy with
nice white teeth, not yellow! Yuck!
eat them now, they were picked eons ago.
why wait?
She picked Steve.
xx
You know, she could have picked better songs

Sure they were done by Elvis, but she could have picked better songs, and she could have done better with the ones she picked.  People complain that the guys should have done a Bette Midler week, but I could just see Elliott doing Wind Beneath My Wings, or Taylor doing The Rose...they would just have to pick songs that best suited them from that artist and then just do a great job. She should have tried Love Me Tender.

I think you have picked wisely
because the field for nursing is unbelievable. Having worked at hospitals, doctor offices, etc. I heard from nurses not only the $$$$ salary but the perks that go along with it. One nurse told me about how she got her living expenses covered by 2 doctors vying for her working for them. I have been here for 30+ years so I am not in the same boat trying to raise children, etc. but if I had to do that now I would never be able to live off the salary handed to the MTs now. Good luck!
I picked up the Homedics Shiatsu
neck massager at Walgreen's last month, and it's so relaxing! Eight or ten minutes at bedtime and I fall asleep immediately. For anyone with tense neck muscles, this is a must-have. I've tried the seat cushion too-- nice!
The signal cannot be picked up on wireless if you
even if you DON'T, they can only pick up and use  your SIGNAL for access - not YOUR actual online activity.  How this fallacy began is beyond me.  If your activity could be monitored just because you use wireless then satellite internet would not exist and Linksys would be out of business.  Many MAJOR corporations, banks and government entities use satellite internet on laptops for salesmen, traveling employees and others who work out of the office in the USA and overseas.  Do you think they would risk it if there were an actual problem?  Your Keystrokes are more likely be picked up by spyware, adware, viruses and worms which are prevalent on ALL internet connections.  If any MTSO had a problem in the past it is because their own site was not properly secure - it had nothing to do with the type of internet connection.  The MTSOs are denying employment to a lot of good MTs just because they live where DSL and cable are not available.  All based on what is, in my book, an OLD WIVE'S TALE.
Is there a reason you picked Colorado or was it
nm
I picked up a brochure and it stated that --sm
the student version did not come with outlook 2007, which I happen to like. Guess it will be the next up version for me. sigh.
I have not picked up a book in forever
I go to the Internet for everything I need to know. Keep in mind that you need to find reference sites that are legit, then the Internet is the way to go. In fact, my books are packed in a box and I have no clue where that box is. The exception to that is my Book of Style, and it is a rare use item, as well.
cherry-picked routing to VR and offshore
Ethical to route the work in a systematic way according to the documented processes of your company. Unethical to route work "as you see fit" if "as you see fit" is defined based on who you like and who you don't, as you described above. Tired of hearing the complaining? Get over it and get used to it, because it isn't going to stop and it is only going to get worse.

On what basis to you know that the "paranoid" plotting and speculation about dictation being cherry picked to go to India or VR is unfounded? I notice the natural variation in who is dictating, etc., the true "roll of the dice" as you describe it, and that doesn't bother me.

It isn't that it "has" to be more than just fate. It is more than just fate.

VR and offshore transcriptionists can't handle the tough dictation, yet we know they are being used. Do you think what is being routed to VR and offshore is random, the luck of the draw? I don't.

So I don't know why I shouldn't suspect that if on the average, in an ongoing trend, dictation is getting worse for domestic transcriptionists to a degree that could not be a cooincidence, it means that for reasons other than coincidence, easier work is being routed somewhere else.

I can tell you are comfortable with "the way things have always been," and change makes you nervous, but get used to the fact that whether it has always been this way or not, it is not going to continue to be that way.

Get used to the ideas of MTs standing up for their rights and fighting back or quit reading the complaints and type away in your happy, sheltered world. The status quo is not going to continue.
my supervisor cherry picked the normal
cataract surgeries, normal any other type of surgeries she could using the same illogical reasoning that you have used. That is because she is too incompetent to do transcription.
They offshore so you get the cherry picked leftovers.
Sound quality is lousy. Totally rigid on their schedule. They have the attitude that you should be grateful to work for them.
Maybe you picked the wrong week to stop
x
First , I am a seasoned MT, no need to train, tapes are picked up, i type 'em. and that is about it.
dd
Yeah, that is why he picked Condi Rice as Sec of State. nm
KIK
Nope, my hubby picked mine up last year and
hopefully his deductions will clear out mine this year.
I can relate.....I took on extra work and now my DH just picked a fight with me, and is also winding
the kids up massively as I type this. Totally off your subject but he just dropped on me that he is cutting all contact off from my dad since he recently remarried and intimated that he was leaving me and my brothers nothing in his will......DH also said the kids were not allowed to have any contact with him either.  I can get around that and just leave with the kids when he is at work if I have to resort to that.  But this is bullsh*t.....I fear if it keeps up I am headed for divorce court.  He is getting weirder and weirder about money, though he professes not to care or want it.  Then he dropped that when his dad (75) dies his mom (70) was moving in with us.......WHAT!  So right now I am hoping that his mom goes first as he will never live with his dad, or that his dad lives another 15 years at least....We had promised my mom she could live with us, but now that she is dead, he says it will be his mother as he has to protect his interests (and the kids....as supposedely all his parent's money is to go to them.....he plans not to touch it). So needless to say I am LIVID, don't want to work right now, am not talking to him though he keeps coming in and ranting more....he has calmed down some but still driving me nuts.  He has to stop drinking, that is what it comes down to....much more rational then.  But I really think the writing is on the wall and it's scary as I have no where to go now.
I just picked up a UK account. I need a spellcheck for british medical. Any suggestions?
tia
That is what I'm trying to do. I've picked up some smaller accounts, dropped the national, an
very hard to cut my hours. It takes time learning the new docs and systems, but I'm sure soon I'll be working less (I pray).

Thanks for your thoughts. I should have never gotten used to the bonus $$.
Picked up tapes for years for a clinic. Finally splurged
Drs wanted to try the phone system so I found a used one and it's much easier. Still drop off printed reports but have dictation instantly, especially nice for stat reports. Don't have to wait to pick up tapes anymore. I could see some of my older clients never moving away from tapes, but if you have one that's receptive to it, you might give it a shot. With gas prices now, it's easier to have a few scheduled dropoff days a week and you can always fax urgent documents to staff. I find that the local drs are usually quite loyal to good MTs so that is nice job security. They like the personal touch from someone they trust, not some big chain. My clients even offered to pay for phone system but I bought it so I could write it off.
Yes, a year or so ago. Got picked. Child molester case/Guilty! nm

to see if anyone has responded to her
Just ignore her - maybe she'll go away.    Just wants our attention.
Thanks everyone who responded...
Just wanted to thank each and every one of you who took the time to respond and share your experience.  Some of you really made me feel calmer about things!  Those of you with negative experiences, I still appreciate your input.  Again, thanks.  I'm going to try it, and we shall see, shall we not?  Have a great day everyone.  Becky
Thanks to all who responded!

I was glad to hear from everyone on their experiences. You can read and read on something, but there's nothing like hearing from people about their experience with it. It gives me a lot to think about and I'm gonna proceed slowly before doing anything. I'm really hoping something with be found locally, but so far no luck. Again thanks to everyone and HAVE A HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Thanks to all who responded..

everyone else has responded,
publicly or privately, very nicely and informatively. Only YOU chose to be rude. Now that's what I call S A D.
I'm not the *nm* U just responded to.....SM

I'm not the person you just responded to, I didn't type about you should lighten up.  But to defend myself, I didn't call you a name.  I asked you a question which was R U an ageist?  It was a question with an LOL - I was joking.  LOL=laugh out loud.  Had I been serious and not joking, no LOL would have appeared.

Again, sorry if I offended you.  Wasn't my intent.

thanks to all who responded
  Good info!
Thanks, all who responded - sm
I just had no idea how this all works, although I was told I had to bring my films with me to the onc's office. I've been waffling between "it's probably nothing" and worst case scenario. Will keep you posted
Thank you to all who responded...
I appreciate all the great responses I received. Each one of you have made me feel like this is something that is definitely not out of my reach and have now given so much inspiration to prove to myself that I can do this. I guess, it is true, you can teach an old dog new tricks, ha?!

Also, how many of you are going to school part-time and how long did or will it take you? I have to work so will be going part-time, plus I have a 3-year-old at home and will need to be here for him, too.
That was me you responded to....sm

I could see, Babe, where all that would give you AND ME a splitting headache and is why I use the CPA.  My private docs made me sign a contract started a couple of years ago.  I don't think they want me as an employee and until the state of Florida tells them differently, I'm praying nothing changes for me on this issue.

Thanks again for your responses and EXPLANATIONS - I do so appreciate all you typed.  I will be speaking to my CPA next week due to this issue you brought up and thanks for bringing it to my attention!!!

Thanks to both who responded
Yes, I did weigh all those factors and actually have accepted the job - was just wondering how hard I should fight/how much I should worry about the pay issue. I already feel I have gained much in regard to opportunity, benefits, etc. - is just very big change going from working at home to going back to work in an office setting and so many family/friends seem to think the only thing to make that worthwhile would be more money. I agree that the opportunity is worth more - as you said and I agree, the MT world is changing a great deal right now - at 40 I feel I still have many years of work ahead of me and I don't want to be left behind. Besides, I'm looking forward to the new challenges of learning this "other side" of transcription. However, I did think it would pay a little more (a dollar or two). BUT, as I said, I did weigh all other aspects of the job and felt the benefits outweighed any pay issues questions I had.

Thanks again for your advice and input.
just responded
Sorry I broke another rule....so I guesss I will be not allowed to use MT Stars again tomorrow......just responding to a comment that was made...
