I'm not QA either.  I was just replying to that post.

Outside of the medical field, the 's is viewed as completely normal and acceptable for abbreviations.  It's been that way forever.  It is used incorrectly by so many people that it is now considered common.  Kind of like "I could care less" instead of "I couldn't care less."
