I'd still hire an attorney, especially if the blame game is involved.

If either or both parties are getting nasty, it's best to go by the book and make sure all your T's are crossed and all your I's are dotted. Can't do it on your own if there is any anymosity involved.

blame game..........sm

As for the *blame game* - most states and MOST judges don't care....they don't care if your spouse is caught in bed with people.  Hopefully the OP's state is like that.  Many states today are *no contest* states.  If you want a divorce, you can get a divorce in most states with no contesting.  If the OP's state is not like this - is not a *no contest* state, the OP needs to file for a divorce in another state, where the OP would need to get residency status in that particular state (using someone's address who you know real well).

Please, stop the Blame Game
Again, aren't we all in the same boat here - FT, PT, IC, SE, we are all MTs... isn't the point here that those of us who are having a difficult time with the co. we work for (specifically, for me, MQ) that we are all trying to validate, encourage, and hopefully figure out a way to hold the COMPANY responsible??? I don't know the answer, but I DO KNOW that blaming each other, ICs, SEs, FT employees, whatever, is NOT the answer. Geez.
If you hire an attorney (sm)
you an also request reimbursement for your expenses, court costs and attorney fees. I would mention this in my letter to the MTSO also. If this MTSO does this to you I guarantee you are not the only person they are doing it to.

Good luck
Hire an attorney & have the atty write a letter

that if you do not receive pay by (the date), you will file a lien on her business and her house, and may take her to Judge Judy    I guarantee you will get your money faster than going to small claims court, spending less time going to court, etc.

I'd hire an attorney and do a quickie divorce. They're cheap and well worth it.
If it's uncontested the attorney can help you amicably sort through what needs to be split and do it fairly and according to the laws of your state. This will avoid potential problems later.
they don't REFUSE to hire new MT's. They REFUSE to hire them at 6-8 cents per line.

mostly because you can now hire experienced MT's at 6-8 cpl. In the near future, you will be able to hire experienced MT's at 5 cpl. Then people will start getting out of this business and new people will stop trying to get in. I had a job opening and asked people to bid what they wanted per line. One very smart young lady was a new grad and bid 3 cpl. I hired her a year and a half ago, she has been terrific! and I was willing to spend my time training her because a) time is money and she saved me money so I could spend my time and b) she had definite potential!. In another six months, she will be the MT with 2 years experience applying for jobs. AND she will get them because she will test well and essentially "bought" her experience. So use Economics 101...

Get an attorney now
Find an attorney that will take your case - then let them write the letter. Just talk to a couple who handle medical malpractice -these are severe medication errors.
attorney general
good idea.  I have contacted an attorney already (I am a corp by myself so I have access to an attorney) and he states that legally there is nothing right now that I can do. I can possibly sue them later down the road, but they have not done anything illegal. He suggested to try and "sugar" them into paying me.  I will contact the attorney general's office. The company and I are in the same state, so that helps tremendously.
Get an attorney and have them draw one up for you. sm
It costs about $200 and well worth it!
You can usually call an attorney and

Call an attorney, but ....sm
In the state of NC a few years back, one person could not force the other to sell in this situation. I went through something similar with my siblings. I ended up buying their portions.

But, no, at that time and again in my state, you cannot be forced.
You get an attorney to type it up...sm

My dad's attorney typed it up for me and I had it notarized and then MAKE TONS OF COPIES because you have to prove you are able to make decisions for your Mom.  I had this power of attorney for 10 years, my dad dying last January.

I suppose you could get some form.....even probably at Office Depot...I got a living will there, actually a package of them.  It's just more complete to have an attorney do this 2-page paper for you...and not terribly expensive either.

Best of luck to you and your Mom.

Consult an attorney....
He'll tell you everything you need to know to operate a business, and it will be an hour's worth of money well spent......
You need a good attorney NOW!! My
friend's sister died at the age of 51 because a doctor prescribed birth control pills for the mood swings of menopause without first checking her triglycerides or doing any blood work. Her triglycerides were very elevated, and the addition of the medication caused her pancreas to shut down and she died. There is a big lawsuit on this one, too.
I would get an attorney to fire off a ...

letter.  I have had to do that several times in the past (not MT related), and it is amazing how quickly things are resolved.  It has only cost me $35 to explain the situation to the attorney and have a short letter sent.  I think it would be well worth it in your case...$35 vs. $1300.

Also, be sure to send the letter certified, return receipt requested.  Even though that is only to obtain proof of delivery, there seems to be something "official" about it...and that can't hurt.

I think you should consult an attorney

who specializes in modifications and have them do a forensic audit of your loan.  Are you in one of those toxic arms?   WFB might be forced to modify your loan if attorney discovers any discrepancies.   If you don't want to consult an attorney I would suggest calling the lender and asking to speak to someone in the loss mitigation department.  The regular Joes in customer service aren't qualified to help you.  Be prepared to reference paystub/bill information and spend awhile on the phone.  I wish you well.

I am involved, but that
has never kept me from seeing all sides of any issue.  Getting a CMT may not be for you, but it is worthwhile if you feel you want to do it.  I think that the nastys you see here are only an opinion and that people should research the issue .. whatever it might be .. and make an informed decision.  Having a CMT has worked for me and I know as many MTs who are very proficient at what they do who do not have one for whatever reason they chose not to test.  I do not get in their faces about it nor do I expect them to get in mine.  Some days I think we forget to respect each other as professionals.
Capitalize Power or Attorney or not?

Hmm. Every doc, nurse, attorney, accountant
I know is making WAY good money and none are working at McD's!!! LOL

Husband is a corporate attorney
He makes more than I do - obviously.

I'm happy.

There are several factors involved
I believe the average line rate is anywhere from 100 to 200 lines an hour. The software platform you are using, what type of report you are typing, whether you have templates you can use, whether you have an expander, all factor into this. If you type letters only and have no expanders, for example, expect the lower range. Those with many standard templates and heavy use of Expanders can expect to type much more than that.

The other poster is correct in that a lot of the national companies expect 150 lines an hour.
Get him involved in either a hobby, or doing

volunteer work.  Let him do for those less fortunate and maybe his life will seem pretty good.  If he feels needed that may change his whole attitude and everything else with just fall into place.

He might also need some adjustments in his meds.  It s/l there is some depression involved, but it could just be situational and the counseling will help with that.   Meds could possibly diminish his libido and it would be worth talking to his doctor to see if that could be the case in his situation.

Maybe you could make him a list of little things to do to help out, or plan the meals and have recipes on index cards so that he can actually prepare the meal.  If he is home all day he needs to at least be doing the daily chores.

Because of all the variables involved, sm

I think it's ridiculous that your team leader would post such a thing.  Every MT's situation is different--different accounts, shifts, work types, hours, etc.--and a team leader should know that.  As far as working for a national goes, I feel less "communication" is better.  Why stir things up?  These companies ought to just let us transcribe and keep their silly emails to themselves.  Don't they know the old saying, "Familiarity breeds contempt?"  Maybe your team leader needs more real work to do.  Don't let it bother you.  Just do your part and forget about it.

One time I told a national bigwig (because my opinion was requested) that if I were asked to draw a cartoon which described this company's relationship with its MTs, I would draw the MT in a cage, sitting at her computer, with a (particular) "suit" poking the MT with a big stick, saying "They produce more when they're angry."

Fortunately now I am a happy IC with a very nice company that treats its MTs with respect.  Ya have to kiss a lot of toads in this life, ya know?

LOL There is alcohol involved in that

There is a lot of training involved.
I'm not sure a 16-year-old would want to go through that much training. I know I wouldn't have. Are you a transcriptionist? I could be way off base here, so please don't be offended if I am, but I'm wondering if you believe some of the hype that a person can just sit down and do medical transcription. If you've been misled that way, I apologize, as it is much more difficult than that. It's a very common misconception that it's an easy job.
There are so many variables involved that you

really can't compare things.  A lot of the people making that money have their own accounts or are working many hours.   You don't know if the person making 60,000 is an IC and has to pay their own taxes.  IC positions generally pay better than an employee position.  One acccount may not pay for spaces or headers.  You might actually be doing the same amount of lines, but they aren't being counted.

At one time it wasn't that difficult for someone to make that amount of money if all the variables were favorable.  These days it is harder because line rates are overall lower and companies are always reconfiguring how to count lines in their favor.

If you are pleased with the amount of $$ you are making that is all that really matters and I would not feel that you are inadequate.

the wifey involved is always, always

and I mean it.  Every time I've had contact with an office and the wife works there, things are not as they should be.  They like to hole the money up as if they'll miss a shopping spree they could take on that cash or something!  It's sooo true!

These physicians are loaded, and the wives don't take kindly to the money flying out of the window or at least that is their perception.

I'd leave that sucker like he was yesterday's trash....  He deserves nothing and didn't even deserve the cut in rate..  what a jerk!

Yes,, I know that there is no 'plastic' involved!
Geez!

Are you a naive blonde?

I meant 'plastic' is short for 'plastic surgery'.

BTW in this 'face lift' the sutures with the 'hooks' are left in place.

It is very seldom that the surgery or lift or whatever the expected results are achieved.
Either no results are seen at all or it is so obvious that one can spot the 'plastic' miles away.

I would NEVER do it.

Are you so desperate to improve your looks?

Don't blame QA!
If your quality is there, you don't need to worry.  If you are worried about your quality, don't blame it on QA people.  We are not "out to get you," just making sure that we send a quality product to our clients.  That is our job.  I have been in this business for 30 years.  I try to help our MTs by giving them good feedback.  It is insulting to me as a professional when an MT with poor quality whines about what QA "did to her."  You should see some of the garbage I have to fix daily....Some reports take an hour or more to QA - just one job!!  We have productivity quotas to meet, too, and this hurts us.  This is why the poor-quality MTs are being gigged in their pay.  If you are not a poor MT, no worries, right?
Don't blame QA

You go girl!!  My thoughts exactly....

i don't blame you there
now if others will do the same, we could actually have good debates/venting sessions; I appreciate your answer
I don't blame you at all. We did the same
for my nephew and I will get a list of music alternatives from my sister and post for you.

Keep up the good fight!
can't really blame them 100% either

I've learned to take a more pragmatic view of the problem rather than blindly placing all the blame on the doctors themseves.  Rather, I place the majority of the blame on the shoulders of the government and the insurance companies for driving up the costs not only to patients but to the providers.  Practices have found that they've got to cut back somewhere. Some have turned to EMR, some are using voice recognition, and some have resorted to going the cheapest way possible, offshoring, to create the documentation REQUIRED by insurance companies and the government in the first place.  Though we may debate the morality of sending American jobs overseas, they're not doing anything illegal.

The biggest problem I have with offshoring, as my friend once put so eloquently, is "I wouldn't want my medical records to go to some country we're going to be at war with in a few years." (thanks, AK!) We Americans are expected to abide by government-imposed HIPAA laws, but does that extend to offshore companies?  They say they are HIPAA compliant, but who really knows? Which "government" agency watchdog do we have to protect our privacy in these other countries?  Gee, we're having such a problem with identity theft, wonder why?

I've taken to asking any new physician that I go to who will be typing my medical record after this office visit.  If they say they sending it to some really cheesy company in India or even refuse to tell me who, I walk.  How many of you do the same thing?

Can't really blame them.
You are working for them actively IN their system.

I wouldn't bat an eye at it. I say kudos to the hospital for protecting patient information and upholding HIPAA appropriately.

I did not blame anything on anyone.
I simply stated a fact. Some MTs are incapable of making a successful transition to editing. I did not blame anything on anyone. Do I think that the measly pay rates offered by some companies for editing are fair? No. There are also companies that pay a reasonable, but not great, pay rate for editing.

I will reiterate what I said before. If you cannot make a living on what you make doing editing--then don't do it. Period. Bemoaning the fact you can't make decent money while your bills pile up accomplishes nothing.

So, you blame this on QA? How do you know

"Anonymous" and "Untouchable?"

Don't speak for me.  You don't know me.  I have always wanted to deal directly with the MTs.  There are other QAs who agree with me, too.  But we have been told in may meetings that just will not happen.

Of course, I would imagine the anal ones who should not have their QA jobs would not like to do that, because they could not back-up their corrections.  But I stand behind mine.  I would rather talk directly to the MTs -- lack of communication is good for nothing but misunderstandings and bitterness.

I am not out to get any MT.  I will not make a change in your report unless it is an outright blatant medical terminology mistake or a formatting error.

Why are you so mean?  You don't know me.  I wouldn't be nasty to you.  I have never done anything to you.

Bitterness is not good for anyone.  Why don't you place your anger towards the QA who is giving you troubles?  Turn that QA in.  Keep doing it.  If more MTs would speak up, then the ones who should not have jobs will be held accountable.

I know what you are talking about.  I understand.  I see it myself when I look at completed reports and I see what some QA are doing.  It is wrong.  But not all of us are the same way with our jobs.  I have always tried to be professional and helpful to the MTs.  I leave notes with info that they might need concerning the particular report, and even thank them for their hard work.

I am sorry you feel so hateful towards someone who never did a thing to you.

My husband is an attorney and suggested the same thing to me once.

It definitely sounds more promising than MT but it does also sound like you'd be back to Square One with training/schooling.

It may be well worth it.

Best of luck whatever you decide!
Cool! My DS has a BS in criminal justice and my DH is an attorney!
