was that. People did not even call to say they were not going to make the training sessions? Unbelievable. It is just a quick call. However, I am glad you found a good Transcriptionist in the process.

With all the letters behind their names, they should have the sense to know that if they keep the dictaphone running it means "dead air" time for whoever has to listen. It has nothing to do with ESLs. I find just as many native speakers, if not more, think that we should have so sit there while they paper shuffle or otherwise get their s - - - together. If I were getting paid by the hour, or when they used to give bonuses based on minutes of dictation, great! They could paper shuffle all they want...they're paying for their own dead air. But as little as we're already being paid for line per line, I have issue with them taking my time and food off of my children's table.

I have a group of 7 docs and they all do that plus back away, turn their head, speak as fast as they can, etc., so I have to listen over and over to get it. They have to know they are making it difficult. What bothers me most is that I have been doing them for almost 8 years and not once, not once, have any of them acknowledged me! Not a Merry Christmas, have a good day, thank you, nothing! The office manager called me once in 8 years to tell me they appreciated my work.
Doctors are SO inconsiderate
Just need a moment to vent...why are doctors SO inconsiderate??? This one doctor, which I happen to have been working on ALL morning, is so inconsiderate. She mumbles, shuffles papers with the phone in her hand, and generally just cannot be still while she's dictating...and to top that off, she will not dictate in any reasonable order. She never indicates when she's changing from history to physical to assessment to plan....UUUHHH...I am literally  !!!

I had one doc who gave me a bad checs. So, I found another account to make up for his lack of funds, but I picked up his work as usual. I did the last two tapes he gave me, but I didn't give him the work and I returned blank disks to him. His OM hated him, so she called me when she had a deposit and I met her at the bank with the checks and a bill for the new work. She gave me a new check, we took care of business, I got my all my money, and he got his work. I then notified him that I would not do his work for him any longer since he tried to stiff me for several hundred $. Boy was he mad. Tsk, tsk, tsk.
Exactly! It's just inconsiderate to your neighbors and unfair to do something like that!
People think they're being funny or cute but making your house look like a piece of crap is rude to the neighbors and DOES make their homes worth less than they should be. I agree that they should be forced by law to change it back.
No I don't think doctors are arrogant and inconsiderate as a whole.
Because they don't dictate the way we like isn't a personal thing against us. Some have skills with dictation that others don't. Like public speaking, some can, some can't. Doctors do have lives and problems and patients outside of trying to dictate patient records.

they don't realize how irritating it is for someone to have to listen to that crap. They just don't care.

Do you think doctors are generally arrogant and make a lot of money and so inconsiderate of us?
I had been listening to several breast onco dictations by the same female dictator who kept on yawning that it was so annoying...made me want to post a complaint to a forum of mother MDs (though I was not quite sure where I would post it) which I previously run into...
I then saw under the General Discussion board this thread:

That made me feel like reaching out to the sleepy doctor who was probably not being paid for that time she takes to dictate about her patients (she apparently let them pile up before dictating) and just let her head rest on my lap (I am a female). Maybe she did not have enough sleep, or not even enough time to enjoy her family...

Not so sure if it is rude...
A lot of these places just seem extremely disorganized, a real mess. I had 2 places "hire" me for part time work and never got employment papers, contracts or anything until I finally had to ask. Ultimately I did not take either job, cause I figure if they cannot get this together, what happens to the paychecks?

Thats someone I would not want in my life because it would be a roller coaster. Friendships are rare and you need to try really hard to preserve them and if you're doing that, then you deserve someone who will do the same back. I know, hard to find. I also sound a little "short" on the phone (i've been told this several times by dif people) and I explain to them nicely that I do get in this weird zone in that I want to get my work done and i'm still in that zone when the phone rings.

If you don't want to help that's fine, but you don't have to be rude. Working late and in a hurry. No time to switch from board to board. I rarely ask for help anyway but I am in need tonight. I have spent too much time already looking for it myself.

that was a rude way to put it
I understand what they mean, but that was rude. I tried to train a lady in her 60s and after 40 solid hours of just trying to teach her to save files, I gave up. In the process, when I asked her what was on her desktop, she hesitated and said "uhhhhh...my coffee." You'd think everybody would have a basic fund of knowledge since we haven't used typewriters for at least 20 years now, but some just cannot grasp it.

You can have degrees coming out of your ying yang, but it doesn't make you better than any other person. You've failed miserably at learning the most important lesson of all along the way: How to treat people.
So get over yourself. Someday you're going to slip off your self-erected superior pedestal and break that special finger that you flash at everyone.

person has this much experience and does not know these simple rules. Obviously they have never bothered to stay updated, which in our business is mandatory.

Again, you really should stop trying to start flames. It's very juvenile of you. Don't you have something to do, like transcribe, or maybe you could start an early dinner, your favorite, burgers on the grill, chips, and root beer!!! Or maybe you could do something you've needed to do for a long time but keep putting off: TAKE A CHILL PILL AND CHILL OUT before you pop a vessel! GHEESH! 
Maybe they were rude, but DH should have
told them not to come and the problem would have been eliminated before it started.

and unprofessional. Don't take one person's opinion. Get more experience in-house where someone can mentor you. Then branch out independently on your own at home again. Good luck to you.

Did not mean to be rude but it seems like this is so often stated that as an IC "you pay your own taxes and as an employee you do not" that I just though I would emphasize that you do not pay your own taxes, you withhold your own taxes as an IC. Sorry if I hurt your feelings.

at all about my situation. I left there by choice, they begged me to stay and have even called me since I left to ask that I come back - doesn't sound like I couldn't cut it to me. I do not now, nor have I ever worked as an IC, not that that has anything to do with anything.

Don't judge until you walk a mile in our shoes. You don't even know the C*R*A*P we have to deal with day in and day out. Especially from subpar MTs who think our only job is to fill in the blanks they are unable or unwilling to.
Not everyone is as conscientious as you seem to be. Most do not bother to transcribe the "bulk of the work" but decide to leave it to us in QA who, after all, do nothing but fill in blanks all day.
I suggest you get a better understanding of what QA's role is. QAing is a very difficult job and one that not everyone is qualified to do. Certainly not lazy MTs who can't be bothered to do their own research.
I can see where you might think she was being rude...

Why are you being so rude to me? All I can speak about is myself, and what I am doing. I wasn;t being rude to you or anyone else. Guess you have nothing better to do or no one else to take your crap out on, I was under the impression this was a place where adults gathered.

Did I call her names or belittle her like a lot of you do on this board? No, I merely asked how she knew she was being trained wrong and stated what my experience has been. MTs need to be adaptable. That's the best thing a newbie can do is to learn to be flexible according to the rules of the accounts she's put on. Wouldn't you agree? Honestly, if you're that hypersensitive to think that I was nasty or rude, you need to toughen up. All I did was ask a question and state some facts. I wasn't judgmental or condescending at all, like many others I see here.

I am not rude nor do I cuss at them...
I am actually very polite to them, but I simply tell them why I will not be speaking with them. I think companies would get a clue if NOBODY would talk to their offshore workers.
I don't blame the workers a bit, but I still don't feel the need to deal with them just because they are not the root of the problem.

You're not seeing the big picture about how Walmart is harmful to a community. No, you may not see an immediate return on your investment when you spend with the smaller businesses. However, the money spent with the smaller businesses STAYS in the community. They spend locally instead of siphoning the money out of the community.

You must not have a grip to be a tad rude by
saying get a grip people. I still do not believe it. Show me the money and only then will I believe it. Also, when I get offered more than 6-9 cpl for straight transcription will I believe it.
