VERY hard to get - a few companies have rad tied up pretty tight. The hospital I work for sm
will not even look at a new company for radiology. The TAT is too tight, the IS issues complex, and the radiologists do not want to have to proof their reports. You would be better off with medical records or small offices to start to build your size and reputation.
where is the hard drive sm
I never unscrewed the tower case. Where will I find the "hard drive?" I know it sounds like a dumb question, but I really don't know squat about the guts of the hardware.
Hard drive out, now what?
So now you have the hard drive out, what do you do with the hard drive? TIA

How large is your hard drive, and
how much free space do you have. Remove unnecessary programs that you do not use. Download CCleaner from the Internet. It is a great program and free. It cleans out the temp files, cookies, etc. when you log off the Internet. See how much RAM you have and check your motherboard manual for the maximum RAM allowed. More RAM will speed up your computer. Also, if you have more than 1 stick of RAM, some of them may be dead, and this could slow down the computer too. A lot of variables come into play. Try one thing at a time. There are plenty of things you can do. Good luck!
Also as I just blew my hard drive
Take the sideoff and get some compressed air and clean out the inside of your computer..I noticed mine was getting slower and slower..Forgot to clean the inside and here I am replacing a hard drive...All it takes is a spec of dust on the hard drive to make things haywire
You need to get somebody to partition your hard drive. sm
Your computer can have both Vista and XP on it, your tech guy or somebody who is up on this stuff partitions off your hard drive so you can boot up with either one. My computer is partitioned so when XP is no longer supported, my Vista will be like an upgrade. I also read, on here I think, that you could even use a second hard drive.
Hard Drive Twilight Zone...
Hi,
Last night I had a file and folder open and left them there. This afternoon I sat down to try to get some work done on it. I decided to clean up the bottom tray and closed out the file, folder, and other www pages I left open (Yahoo., local library, etc.) to re-open items in the order I usually like them only to discover that the drive that I work on is totally missing.
I've done searches for names of files on that drive, searched for the drive itself, checked the trash bin in case of some fluke it might be there. Nada, zip, zilch, ___you fill in the blank, the system says I used a bad word.
What else can I/should I do besides shoot myself?
Thanks.
OOPS my hard drive crashed
Either charge him an astranomical amount or say "oops computer crashed and lost them" or snce you no longer have his account you erased them. They are your property and you are entitled to be compensated if he wants them and give them to him. They are yours and not his.
Download the file from FTP to your hard drive.
Then hit Load button, find where you saved the file on your hard drive and Load. Now, you're in business.
Part was cut off. Deleted it from the hard drive. I would
like to get this working so I can test with other places. If not, I dont know what to do. I have an Infinity foot pedal and it works fine on DQS so I dont want to go out and buy foot pedals not knowing what to buy and if it will work. Hopefully this tech guy will have an answer since he works for the company I am testing for.
Do a search to see where the file is located on your hard drive.
Make note of the full location name. Next, in ES, choose Load and go to the above-noted location to find the file. Hit the Load button and you're in business.
Is it possible to do a system back-up (hard drive information) to a USB
zip drive? Have you done it? How do you figure how big of a zip drive is needed? Thanks.
I too use an external hard drive, backs up My Documents folder. sm
It only takes once to lose everything to know how important backups are.....I should know, happened to me!!
Mine works with printer and external hard drive
You just need to get the more expensive USB Hub with a power adapter if it doesn't work with your printer.
I've lost more than one hard drive on Dell computers
That's the message you get normally if the hard drive if fried. I just called Dell and they diagnosed the problem and sent me a new hard drive and I returned the bad one. Is yours still under warranty?
I think their intent all along was to drive MT companies and MTs
for VOICE RECOGNITION machines they had in the works all along.
Am I getting paranoid. Just a little.
Stand back and look at the big picture though.
So, you think it is okay for hard-working MTs to earn 7-8 cpl for their hard work?? nm
:{
First, you need to remove 4 screws to replace/remove your hard drive. (sm)
Once the screws are all removed, the hard drive (4 x 4 x 2) is sitting in the bottom of the cage. This won't always be the situation, (some really cheap cages are open at the bottom, so the instant the last screw is removed the drive drops if you aren't holding on). Oddly enough, this is the most critical stage of replacing a hard drive, in the sense that removing the drive through the case where the ribbon cables are bunched up and over the CPU and heatsink is most likely to create another problem. If the cables are long enough, you can leave them attached to the hardrive as you slide it out, but don't try pulling through a mess, clear a path first. If you are discarding the entire unit, dont worry about being gentle handed.
WHAT? Does ex-text do that? These companies push so hard for VR, there has to....
be a great advantage to them. I hear of girls doing 3000 to 4000 lines a day but have never talked personall to one. I couldn't , too much editing of sentences left out, doctors who have the habit of changing commplete sentences, sending you back up a report to add this this and that. Geez, that is not counting the a, the changing from the to that, a to an, on and on ad nauseum.
A good MT is hard to find. Check back with those 2 companies

A girl I work with has one in every room...
I personally can't find the time to even put up one!!! I admire your spirit and wish I could be more like that. At one time, I did have one in my living room and my bedroom. I really enjoyed it, but at that time I had a little more spare time on my hands. Now with 2 full-time jobs, no time. I wish I could hire someone to come decorate for me! But you know, the decorating used to be part of the fun. Am I just getting to old ?? or too worn out?? I'm not sure which. So you go girl, put up those trees and put one up for me! MERRY CHRISTMAS AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU!
Hubby has 30 mile drive to work (sm)
so he bought a motorcycle and rides that instead of driving his truck.
forgot to mention... yes, flash drive would work

A nice sunny room just for me in our finished lower level. Love my cocoon room.

1990 VW Golf here, love it. Work at home, don't drive much.

Electronic word books work on flash drive?
Do any of yall use your electronic references on a flash drive? I have a laptop I use occassionally when I am traveling, but would prefer to not actually load the software on the laptop.
Have any of yall used them on/with a flashdrive?
Thank you!
Couldn't work any other way. I love being portable, and the equipment takes up so much less room.

sitting in my computer room, typing away when my boyfriend at the time, called me from work. nm

I have never had my own room. I shared a room with my sister, went away to college sm
and had a roommate (whom I am still close to) for 4 years, moved back home and back to sharing a room with my sister while she went to a local college and then got married. In fact, after 17 years of marriage, this is the first time in my life that I have had my own dresser, not just the top two or bottom two drawers!
I could never live alone. Not for fear but for loneliness. I like my alone time but I love to have people around.
Acute care work is operative reports, consultations, H&Ps, emergency room, DS basically the type of
dictation found in a hospital setting as opposed to a clinic setting in which you just type office notes and minor procedures.
Question. How many MTs sit and wait for work when companies overhire and there is not enough work
on your shift. Is this what these companies want for people to sit around and wait on work. As an IC, this probably doesnt amount to even close to minimum wage. What do you do in these cases of no work and sitting waiting for practically nothing to come in when obviously lots of others are doing the same thing. It actually almost seems as though you need to have 2 jobs to survive in this business really. I cant image how you can get the lines in they require. Crazy business this is.
I know...Trust me, I WORK HARD when I work! lol nm
..
How many of you ICs have to work really hard to
make double your money in one week in order to take a vacation for one week. I'm forever finding myself wanting to go on vacation, working doubly hard to make up any money I will lose while I'm off either before I leave or when I come back. Is this the way everyone takes a vacation or is it just me? I can't seem to give myself a break and just take off any time without making up my money that I'll lose. GRRRR. I think I need a break!
hard ever, except now no work
at MQ, so I have to do something while I keep logging on/off DQS hoping a doctor will dictate a report.
You did all the hard work. If someone wants
their own accounts they need to do whatever work needs to be done to get them. People are frequently asking how to get their own accounts - well DUH.
Just like people asking which is the best company and who pays the most, etc. If they want a job do the research. I don't mind helping guide someone in the right direction, but I'm not going to do their leg work for them.
I wouldn't fill bad at all.
I believe it can be done, but I know how hard you must work...SM
I just finished my 12-hour day and did about 2,500 lines. I'm exhausted. I had a bit of interruptions today, so I possibly could have done more. Yesterday I did about 1,700 lines in a 10-hour day, which again was full of interruptions. I can't see myself consistently producing that amount day in and day out. My wrists and arms already hurt.
All the power to the 3,000 line a day producers! You are awesome and a very hard worker!
We all work hard, MT and QA both
no doubt
There's a lot of hard work that goes into
"being the middleman". They have to secure the account, make sure it stays in TAT, keep their eye on any errors or changes and make sure the MTs understand and follow the rules, make sure the clients are always happy, hire the most competent MTs, make payroll, etc., etc.
So before you jump to conclusions and think MTSOs have nothing better to do than being the middleman, think again. I'm not being nasty, just pointing out some facts.
The work just trickles in every day. Hard to get
get on the dictation system, only to find NO WORK. Or just a report or two. And a bunch of other transcriptionists fighting for what little there is too.
I think my company overhired BIG TIME. I think they hired a bunch of the people who jumped the ship from Medquist.
If you are really feeling like this is hard work...sm
then maybe you are one of the many transcriptionists out there who are working HARD and not SMART. If you are SMART you will learn how to use your skills to acheive the MAXIMUM payoff.
The majority of Transcriptionist I have met really do not KNOW how to increase their line counts, how to be INDEPENDENT, how to SELL their services, etc. Instead, they are CONTENT making under 30,000 . You have to be SMART in this business and quit SELLING yourself SHORT. Learn everything you can about BEING THE BEST in your profession. The work is OUT there!!!!!!!! You need to seek it and turn down the CRAP that doesn't make $$$$. I am only a 5 year MT and last year I made close to 52,000 after taxes. Get motivated and get moving. The work is there!!!!
P.S. - Not saying I don't work hard and don't deserve
good money but I just mean that you've got to have some incentive to work as hard as you have to work to get through medical school in order to have people willing to do it.
The MT world is hard work (sm)
Honey, I've been a Transcriptionist for 20 years and believe me, it is hard work. But it was even harder when my children were small (I had 3 of them). It sounds like she knew the job wasn't working out and had to do something about it. I agree with the other poster...try not to take it personally.
Actually more than being lucky, your hard work
paid off. This was what I posted about. You, like me, had on the job training for about a year and it was hard and I really worked hard to get the transcription part right while striving to make production. I worked some on Selectric, even though clanked did not mind at all. This was not a job I took in order just to work from home. It was done because I loved the medical field and never had a clue some day I would be working at home but that was yearsssss down the road. We were a training hospital and some nights I would go home almost in tears, really hard but I really did not think all the others in the room smarter than me and that was my incentive. It paid off big time. My speed has always been about 140 while helps and even now after all these years look forward to each day. I do not work full time any more but hey, I deserve some extra time to myself now. I have earned it!
I found out the hard way that first in always have the work. Supervisor sm
doesn't care what time I work. As was stated to me first come first serve.
It is hard to work for someone who drinks, and even worse
when they don't think they are an alcoholic. It really fries their brain, they are moody and unpredictable, and fly off the handle for no real reason.
I'm very grateful to have this forum and for your hard work.
nm
I don't want to work that hard! OR learn somethingn new. nm
x
Why should this MT give away her hard work? She should go after what is rightfully hers.
:+
It depends on how smart and how hard you want to work.

Hard 2 make money with no work.
