How long on average (hours) does it take to type

I know it depends on lots of things such as difficulty, typing speed, expanders, etc. Just looking for how many hours people have worked to get to 2000 lines.

how long, on average, average a knee replacement would one be on Oxycontin?(sm)
My DH recently had knee replacement surgery a month and a half ago. The doctor has been prescribing oxycontin 30 mg this entire time. Husband has been trying to wean off of it and is down to 10 mg. He asked the doctor if he could come off it completely and the doc said to "just keep taking it." His next visit is in two months. With all the discussion lately about pain medication addiction, is it normal to be on this medication for this long and for the doctor to say "just keep taking it?" How long should one be on this med?
about 10 hours on average, +/-

average hours
On the average, if you can, how many hours a week do you actually transcribe (I realize you are probably faster than average).
average hours
I schedule out maximum of 30 hours per week for transcribing if all docs are in and workload is heavy. Then I add in 5 hours for printing and pick up and delivery. Monday and Tuesdays are heaviest with 8 hours each for typing, Wed is 6, Thurs is 4 and weekend is 4. Takes me an hour a day to do pick up and deliveries to all 4 offices. Usually work 5 to 10 a.m. break to deliver and exercise. Then sometimes 2 to 6 or 5 to 8 evenings if I want and have nothing else to do. Average 10,000 to 12,000 lines per week. 5 doctors. I subcontract out psych and plastic surgery account.
I usually average 1200 in 6 hours. But
I end up surfing the net and take a bathroom break every 2 hours, so it ends up being around 1K. I should be doing better, but some days are so boring on I am here way too much, when I should be typing.
I work 8 hours a day and average anywhere
between 1700 and 2000 with 65 character line, spaces included.
I must say, I work long hours, sometimes 12-14 hours a day.
I thought it was important to mention that. However many hours it takes to get the work done is what I do. Some days 12 hours, other days 6 hours and sometimes 14 hours. So, I guess there really is no easy answer.
Yes, you can! Babies sleep over 16 hours a day on average!
It can be done and has been done - by me!
Average about 2300 lines in 6 hours but
this is a mixed bag of editing and straight typing. The split is usually about 75% editing and 25% typing, If that helps any.
No benefits either being per diem but definitely ask about the average hours per month you can....
expect to work. Most per diems are only allowed to work a certain number of hours per week.
Also, find out how much "notice" you will get for working; i.e., will they call you a day or two in advance, or call you the day they want you to work?
The bright side of per diem is that usually a hospital will hire the per diems if they are interested in a full time job before posting elsewhere. It's your foot in the door so to speak.
On average, how many minutes do you type a day?
I am curious to know how many minutes on average does an MT type a day, by either digital or tapes. And perhaps this is too personal, but how much do you earn weekly with those minutes. I am also aware it depends on what city or state we live in, which can vary the salary earnings too.
I do enjoy my work as an IC, but feel that I do not make very much. I cannot complain though, I have plenty of work, I just really wonder if I do not put enough time into typing per day, or perhaps I need to really consider raising my rates.
Thank you.
I agree with the average as 0.08 to 0.85, however if you type 200/lph you will make much more than y
;
How long have you been transcribing? I average
1800 - 1900, but I have been doing this 30 years. It takes time to build up your speed. Be sure you are using every expansion you can.
How long on average should it take to get up to speed on a new accout
for an experienced MT? I started a new company this week, 50-70% ESL and I have yet to make my lines. Im falling short by 200-300 a day. I find the software to be really slow and I think this has a lot to do with it. Not sure if it is their server or my PC that is making it so slow.
I remember hearing it should take the average MT twice as long
transcribe as it takes the physician to dictate. So for 30 minutes of dictation, if you sat and transcribed without interruption, it should take about 60 minutes. However, I believe that was a MTSO telling me that, soooooo
Now years ago, probably in the mid 90s, I used to work for a hospital that tracked our productivity based on minutes a day versus lines. The minimum requirement for that job was 90 minutes of dictation in a 7.5 hour day (they deducted 30 minutes for lunch and two 15-minute brakes which equals a 7.5 hour day). So that kind of debunks the "30 minutes of dictation in 60 minutes" theory that the MTSO had.
I don't know if my ponderings have helped you at all, but there ya go!
how many hours does it take you to type a
"minimum day" - in other words, not necessarily how much you type, but how much is actually "required" per day?
I type 16 hours 5 days a week
No cause I want to. Took a part-time job hoping to work into full-time, however, don't make enough with it after 1-1/2 years to make it full-time, so I'm still doing both jobs.. I guess I'm a glutton.. Would like one job to make that amount.
I type 1000 lines in about 2.5 hours (sm)
I type on a gross line and I can type 1000 lines in 2.5 hours +/-. When things were good at MQ on the Cottage program, I could type 450-500 lph. Everybody's situation is different. Sure some people stretch the true, but it is still possible, but you have to take into account all the different variables. I utilize my word Expander to the fullest. Any little thing I can think of to save me Keystrokes I use. I checked my stats for my shortcuts the other day and in 3 hours I had actually saved 56% of my keystrokes. Can speak for anyone else, but on most days, I can type 900-1000 lines in 2-2.5 hours.
I'd think 8 hours; depends how fast you type - sm
and how good the quality is of the dictation. If you have to break down multiple people talking I expect it will take you longer than 8 hours.
I type no less than 1500 lines in 7 hours
On my slowest day, I will not allow myself to get less than 200 lines an hour. Depending on the worktype, I can type up to 400 lines an hour. It is hard for me to consistently stay at that speed as I have orthopedic issues!!! I also can type extremely fast, (120 wpm). I also use a lot of Expanders and shortcuts.
Stress and long hours
So, you're saying that you got tired of the stress and long hours so you bacame a TRANSCRIPTIONIST! You crack me up. Everybody knows that as a Transcriptionist there is never any stress or long hours.
seizures - 2 hours long
My daughter had grand mal seizures since age 18 months (after her immunizations of course). She had them until she was 4 1/2 and then they restarted at age 12 (when we were living near a nuclear plant) - University of Wisconsin has the best ped neuro program, Harvard has another. The child does not suffer normally -- onlookers suffer more than they do if it is any consolation. My experience with the entire medical field of neurologists has been substandard -- look until you find one you trust. Beware.
I just type 250-275 lines per hour and transcribe about 6 to 6.5 hours a day.
I am a seasoned MT who back in the day 2000 lines was nothing to achieve. I sat for 8 straight hours, barring potty breaks and 30-minute lunch. But now that I am pushing 50, I can hardly stay in the chair 2 hours at a time. I have set my goal at 1600 lines per day as that is what my employer pays 9.5 cpl for. If I drop below that, my cpl drops also. In addition, I have a backup up IC position with another company (to compensate when I run out of work on my FT job) that pays 10 cpl. I type 2 hours on that account (usually at night) and get 600 lines per day. Fabulous account, fabulous "internet software" everything is right at your fingertips, and they count spaces, headers and footers. Actually both jobs count spaces.
My advice to anyone wanting to get more lines- first and foremost priorty is check out the software the company uses. If it is not user-friendly... forget it. There was this one company who paid 10 cpl, and I could hardly get 500 lines in a 2-hour period. They said they counted spaces, but it was hard to tell, and they surely did not count footers or headers.
Long hours of dictation for translator
Hello. I do transcription for a medical translator and it is very lengthy work and yesterday I spent 14 hours working on medical journal articles. I use MS Word and have only used the autotext feature for inserting regularly dictated words. Is there a better program out there that is easy to use and reasonably priced that will help me not have to do so much repetitive typing. I make a lot of tables and charts too. Any help would be great.
At least 1 whole POT OF COFFEE daily if not 2. Work long hours. nm

I work long hours and keep distractions to a minimum sm
and very, very luckily was assigned an account that was an excellent fit. I'm pretty sure you all won't believe me anyway and I'm not sure why I bothered to respond but my "secret" is just hard work and dumb luck. Plus I do Radiology and for me that is a big part of the equation.
I work whatever hours I want, as long as I have the reports back in TAT...
I have assigned doctors...
About how long would it take to type 90
at an average rate. Let's say these minutes are clinic notes. Just curious. I used to know the ratio but over the years have forgotten it.
short, can't type with them long and also wear
contacts so long nails are a hazard, not to mention a hygiene issue.
How long does it take you to type 1200 lines?
On a normal good day it takes me about 5 hours, somedays I just can't stay focused so it takes longer. I'm still debating about getting an Expander so just wanted to see how long it took people on average.
I proof as I type the report and when there are long
pauses I will proof while waiting for dictation to start up again.
How long should it take to type a 36 minute dictated report?
I was just wondering as I talked to a woman that said it took her a really long time to type this report the other day.. I have never actually timed myself, but thought I'd see what you all thought or what it really should take to do a report that length?
Gack! Is nursing your idea or his? Nursing is highly demanding and long hours.
I'd check with a college counselor/advisor on programs they have for women over 30 to return to academia and enter new careers. Then I'd ask to take some career tests to see what your interests are and what you'd be be suited for. Also, there is scholarship money available for women over 30. Ask about it.
Since I've already raised my kids, I'd also like to state that jr. high and high school are the years our kids need us at home the most. Those are the years they can get into the most trouble if left to themselves. If he's already 9, why not just enter college part-time to finish in about 6 to 7 years? But definitely go talk to a college counselor.
IC sets their own hours. As long as the work is done by the deadline, you decide when to work.
For us slow pkes---my best would be 3 hours, worst 6 hours - just depends on the dictator ,
I have to look up (i.e. Dr. names, addresses)...I have to do a lot of that and it majorly slows me down, without all that and good not too horrible dicators, in 1 hour I can do anywhere from 15-20 minutes of dictation.
But in transcription, if you are good at what you do, you can do 8 hours of work in 4 hours. So eit
you slice it, both companies will still get 8 hours worth of work out of you.
That is the problem I've been having lately being an MT. Companies want to pay us on production and they set minimum productivity standards, but want us timed in for 8 hours a day. My thinking is, if they want 8 hours of work out of me, pay me hourly with production incentive. If they want to pay me on production and tell how much I have to produce in an 8 hour period, then when I hit that mark, I should be able to call it a day even if I've only worked 4 hours.
Seems these companies want it both ways and it is simply not fair to us MTs. JMO, tho.
If it's my fav doc with lots of shortcuts, 1-1/2 hours to 2 hours max

I see, we sit at the keyboard for 40 hours and then throw on 20 more hours
Is this how you do it? Me? I got a PT job so that if my FT job didn't have enough work to meet my needs financially, the two jobs together would.
They hired me to work a specific shift and that is what I am working. If they want me to type after I clock out, then I will happily do so.
I do 2000 lines in 6 hours - so maybe 3 hours - nm

typing 8 hours a day or 40 hours a week
is TOUGH.
on my wrists I mean.
and not getting any benefits... and for a salary of less than 30K? not really worth it...
don't type double spaces. Type single. Then no one will be cheated.
x
I can type with wine, can't type with coffee, though...too jittery.

That is, type the code above before and after what you want bolded in the text-to-type box. nm

I hate Instant Text. It is expensive, long long learning
curve, and too much distraction for me.
How long should I wait after applying for a position before I follow-up. It has been as long as two
without hearing from some. Just wondering if I should send an e-mail to follow-up to see if they received my resume or not. I don't want to offend anyone but feel two weeks should be long enough for someone to at least acknowledge my resume and that I have applied for a position. Right now I would accept anything even a note saying no thanks. Any advice would be appreciated. I haven't had to apply for a job for the past 10 years so I am a bit rusty at this. Thanks again for any advice.
Congrats! How long have you been a MLS and how long did you study for the test!
Please see message. I have three daughters with long, long hair.
I also have long hair down to my waist and my three girls have hair that long too. My daughter brought them home from school last year. I was devestated and grossed out!!!! I have never had to deal with lice. Anyway, we did the treatments and two of my girls broke out in a severe rash with the OTC stuff. Their little heads were so sore!! I thought I was being meticulous with eggs, only to find them hatching again down the road. A nurse at the pediatricians office suggested I try oil to suffocate them since my girls were allergic to the lice solution. I bought a huge bottle of veggie oil and dumped it on all three heads, plus my own. I then wrapped the heads in platic wrap and then a towel. I left this on for 30 minutes. It takes a while to wash out the oil, but we never, ever had the lice or eggs again!!! If you try this, make sure you put on an old shirt and put a towel around your shoulders. Obviously we were desperate, but we all have such long hair and very thick hair so I was willing to try anything. And I figured there was no chemicals involved so that was pretty safe. And it sure did help my littles ones since their scalps were pretty raw from the solution. Hope this helps and Good luck!
It's been a long, long time since I've used a C-phone, sm
but I do think jobs can be paused.
For me it isn't an account type but a dictator type ...
and that would be oriental. An oriental dictator (hahaha, that kind of sounds funny...hahaha) is the most challenging for me.
