Part-time work using Extext/word client/dictaphone
Anyone know any companies that are hiring that use this system? I really want to start part-time and then probably commit to full time later. I really want a company that supplies your equipment! Thanks.

Which expander? I used Shorthand, and it's got a
suggestion box feature that you can stretch across the bottom of your screen to remind you of the expansions. Also, make up a little system for your expansions. Some people use ABCZ, but I use a phonetic/consonant system or the first letters of phrases because that's what I can remember. It's like car license plates with no vowels. sbrc is subarachnoid cnsn is consultation
It might be that you haven't found your company fit yet, too. Keep searching for a better company if the current one isn't cutting it.
Shorthand expander
Did someone pmce say that ShortHand could keep track of repeated phrases etc? What version? I have Version 8 I believe and don't see where it can do that. Thanks

I'm feeling pretty dumb here. I use Instant Text and the Expander with my regular job with no problem, but my PT job uses ShortHand and honestly, I've never figured it out. If you use Shorthand would you please email me. I feel silly enough posting this. I don't want to ask questions and feel worse. Just please put in the subject that you're from MTStars.

I too used PRD+ with Word Perfect DOS 5.0. Make pretty good money, but none like those other people that type. Have wondered and wondered how they do it. Can you tell me.

Shorthand and Instant Text work about the same way. ShortHand has a free 30-day trial you can download online, and it is a lot cheaper than Instant Text.

I am trying to figure out which Expander to purchase and I feel so dumb. I shorthand expander something I download to my PC or is it more like a CD? Can I use it on more than one computer, i.e. home and work? I'm actually trying to find something that can sort of travel with me, like bringing my tool box along with me. Is that possible?

Transferring my ShortHand expander to another computer... Help!
I have gotten permission from my company that I can transfer my ShortHand abbreviation Expander to their computer. I have saved everything to CD. I had to downloaded the new ShortHand Program to the new computer. Someone care to give me step-by-step process. Thanks! I must be doing something wrong, as when I try the file conversion, it says "source and destination cannot be the same." I was saving from the CD to the program on the ShortHand file Programs on the C drive
Shorthand is not the Windows "shorthand/expander" SM
and has only a virtual tour, not a true demo, so far as I know anyway. The program so misleadingly advertised may be excellent, but it's new and untried, not one of the industry leaders ShortHand is.

I have had mine for almost 10 years with no problems and suddenly it started not working. The type it button became inactive. At first restarting it fixed it but then that stopped fixing it so I uninstalled and reinstalled and that worked for about a day and then it stopped working again and reinstalling didn't help the next time. Has anyone had this problem?

Can an expander be created in Shorthand while typing the document?
Or do you have to get out of the document and make up the expansions? When you download it from the website, do you get any instructions along with the program? Any other info would be appreciated.
Word has its own excellent word expander in Autocorrect.

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone knows how to save the ESP file (expanders) in Word Client so I can transfer it to another software platform? My company is switching platforms and without being able to save and transfer my ESP file, I will have to completely rebuild my Expanders from scratch. Help please!!!!!!

Most places don't like for you to use it because it screws up the formatting, or at least that is what they say. I could not get Emdat's Word client to open on it was installed on.
I have a friend who works in it. She types in Word, pastes in WordPad, back into Word and over to Emdat...copy paste copy paste YIKES. I may have that wrong and she may work in WordPad, copy to Word, copy back to WordPad and into Emdat, but in any case it is a hassle, but she says it works okay.
Word Expander Programs - Are there any expander programs that are easy to use and learn
that are similar to the MS Word expander? I prefer something very simple. I like MS Word expander; however I have gone over my limits and cannot add any more shortcuts so I need a program that will hold a larger amount of shortcuts. Many thanks.
EXText Word Client problem
I am using EXText Word Client software with Transnet provided by MTSO for hospital account. I am getting an Exception error when I try to bring up the ExText Word Client (An Exception (0xc0000005) has occurred. A dump file will be generated.) I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software an upgraded but still errors out the same way. Everyone seems to disown the problem. Are there any EXtexters out there that have a fix for this?
SmartType will run in Word client programs sm
I know this because I have used it in MedRite XL, Extext, MTWorld and Winscribe. There are a couple of others out that it will run with. Sometimes you have to futz a bit (Extext), but it will run.
SmartType is wonderful and I am VERY productive with it, BUT it will limit your career and flexibility somewhat if that is all you can or will use. It has to have Word or an actual Word client, you can't link it to IM, email or a funny platform like you can IT for instance. (SH will also do this.)
Unless you tend to stay at a job for years at a time, AND it is a Word client like Extext, it is best you have IT or SH because they are portable from one system to another. Much as I love ST and have used it for over 10 years, I can't unreservedly recommend it to anyone.
Dictaphone Word Client Application
Hi everyone! I have a question that I need answered as quickly as possible. I have the opportunity for a job but it requires use of a Dictaphone Word Client Application. Dictaphone EXText Word Client question.
I've been working along and all of sudden I noticed my trans status window is gone. It's the little window that shows your downloaded jobs waiting to be transcribed/edited. How do I get the box back without logging out and logging back in? I'm not sure where it went or how I closed it, but I must have inadvertently clicked something.

Oh, you MUST have a word expander
You could probably DOUBLE what you are typing now. I'm not sure about figures, but probably close to double anyway. There are probably others on this board who could tell you better than I, but you MUST get one!! I can't believe you are still typing without one. I use Shorthand. You can try it for free.
Word Expander
I have the same problem too. I used to have SmartType and it was SO easy to use. I have to use MS Word and to get a SmartType for MS Word costs $195.00. Plus like you, I am having a terrible time getting things to back up like you describe. PLEASE let me know if you get any good answers. With SmartType, there were already a bunch of shortcuts in the program. With the one I'm using now, I'm having to start from scratch. Do you realize how long it's going to take me to get anywhere near what I had loaded with SmartType? MONTHS, IF EVER. Again, let me know what you find out. I detest this program as all I can think about is how good I had it before.

Can anyone tell me of a good word Expander to work with MS Word. I have SmarType, and the tech guy even tried to add it today, a trial version for MS Word, but it wouldn't work because of the "dictation platform" our company uses. He said the only Word Expander he knows of that works for our company is Shorthand. Can someone please tell me if they have Shorthand, if they like it and why they like it? I'm going crazy with the one I have is it is EMPTY. There is NOTHING preloaded into it. You have to start from scratch, so I will NEVER get one built up enough to make decent lines. I REALLY need an answer FAST. I am SO frustrated right now, I want to quit as it takes me forever to type a report as I have to stop and create a shortcut for a word in practically every sentence I type. It is IDIOTIC to offer a word expander that has NOTHING loaded into it. I have no terms to refer to, NOTHING. PLEASE ANSWER ASAP!!

You can STILL make it do what you want to do. You just don't have to go through the initial time and work of setting it up.
Besides an Expander is always correct. You don't have to stop and look up spelling. I don't understand what you mean by "your way" as you can take any expander and still make it "your way."?

Howdy. When I was typing neurological transcription, I disliked MS Word type programs because of the spell checking/grammar checking. I basically had to turn off almost the entire grammar checking, and a lot of it still wasted my time. So I made MT Keys. I designed it specifically for transcription (while I was typing the neurological transcription), and it has ShortHand expansion as one of its features. It also has one-key features that send things to Google with only hitting one key. You might want to check it out.

I am wondering if anyone else has ever had a problem with Instant Text unlinking itself to whatever word processor program you are running. I use Wordperfect and Word. Sometimes, when I have to back space to erase text, or block portions of text to delete, etc., Instant Text just unlinks itself, or so it seems, but when I go back in to re-link it, my word processor is already highlighted, so it appears as if it's still linked, but it's not working. Also, when I type some letters to expand a phrase, after I've typed those letters it will just erase the last letter. It's really, really strange. I've called their customer service and they tell me Instant Text can't automatically unlink itself, that I have to be doing it. But I tell you I'm NOT unlinking it. If anybody else has had a problem such as this and knows a quick fix, please do share it with me. Thanks!

My staff love SpeedType. It runs about $125 per user. Has many options and is very flexible and eays to maniuplate. I would try searching your HELP area of Word to see if you can copy autocorrect entries.
