How do you do that?

My computer is a newer IBM Pentium 4 but I have to crank the speakers all the way up to hear most of the dictations. I use DocQScribe and have the volume up all the way on it too. I don't know if it is my sound card or just their voices, but it would be cool to have a better amp in the computer. I open it up to dust and fix the fans, but I don't know how to change the card.
