I'm not sure how old your kids are, but in our area there is a children's store that pays up front for items. I usually use consignment and haven't used this store, but a friend told me you take in clothes, toys, etc. and they give you cash up front. That would be a way to get a little cash to hold you over. Or a pawn shop would be another option. Good luck!
