Quick question or poll - What does one consider "good money" for weekly bring home income? sm
Would you consider $1000 a week, IC status, working 5 hours a day, 5 days a week "great money"?
What do you make a week and how many hours do you work?
This is for informational purposes only and not to belittle or degrade anyone or boast and put anyone on a soapbox about their income.
Thanks for your help!
working at home doens't cut it when the health goes,
We're trying to get my father home due to health issues
My father has been at a federal prison camp for a little over a year now. He's been sent to a local hospital six times due to heart troubles. Before going in he had two heart attacks, stents placed, treatment for prostate cancer. He's now also having trouble with his kidneys. We are at our wit's end trying to get him home on house arrest. It was a money/bribery charge (federal). No prior record. Can any one PLEASE help?
thanks

I dont care if you stay home because ofyour kids, a health issue - sm
or because you just like to work in tne nude. The fact of the matter is, settling for a lower rate jsut for the convenience of working from home is BS. I've been doing this for 25 years and have been home since 1996 and while I know I am not making the same money I did in the haydays, I sure as he11 will not work for less. Many of these companies are bluffing if they tell you they have to lower your rate. In fact, if you hold your ground and have a decent reputation, you can even make more.
It's too bad that so many people don't believe in their abilities and worth to hold out. You should never base your decision on fear. Use logic and common sense.
Attn: At Home MTs; How do you get paid?
Hey Everyone,
I'm new to the board but not to MT. I used to work as a secretary/MT for a doctor in my hometown. However since having my baby I want to work from home. I've already got my headset and pedal ready and my former boss promised to send a little work my way. I was wondering how do your clients pay at home Mts? via credit? online? thanks so much!

Working at Home/Getting Paid Hourly
I sent in this info to an MT head hunter:
I am looking for a work-at-home MT position that is employee-based, not independent contractor, paying hourly instead of per line or per page, where I could work Tuesday through Friday, 32 hours a week, no weekends, no nights or holidays.
I was told this was a "TALL ORDER," and that I would never be able to find it. I don't think that I am asking for too much, and that there has to be an MT company out there that is willing to pay highly skilled and experienced MTs what they are worth. I know there are plenty of MTs out there who say, "Oh, if you work hard enough, you can make just as much per line as by hour," but it's been my experience, having worked three MT jobs from home, that that would entail cranking out btetween 1,500-2,000 lines per day...provided there is work available and provided you are getting paid more than 0.12 per line I've been working 12 YEARS as an MT, but most companies still want to pay me between 0.05-0.12 cents per line. FIVE CENTS A LINE FOR AN MT WITH 12 YEARS IN THE BUSINESS. What is wrong with this picture????????
If there is a company willing to pay an experienced MT at least $16+ per hour to work at home, please e-mail me!
Re: Working At Home/Getting Paid Hourly
Perhaps. Don't get me wrong, I like where I work and how much I'm making, and this company acdtually has two MTs working at home; however, they are not offering this option to any other MTs at this time, if ever. The at-home MTs from this company are getting paid per hour and have full benefits, but that's only because they've been working in-house at the company for many years. *Sigh*....
Working at Home/Getting Paid Hourly
Sounds like nice work if ya can get it. :) I wouldn't mind picking up tapes, provided that the pick up/drop-off site wasn't too far.
Working at Home/Getting Paid Hourly
THAT SUCKS. You should be making FAR more than 9 cents a line. UGH. And there are still companies offering experienced MTs 5 cents a line.
I get paid hourly and I work at home
They expect me to work 7-1/2 hours a day and I do, but they do let me spread it out over the course of the day. I work four hours in the morning, two in the afternoon and the other one and a half in the evening. I can leave and go to an appointment and make that time up in the evenings also. But then again, when I don't have any work I still get paid.
I was just wondering if on-site MTs get paid more than at-home MTs?
I am just curious if MTs that work at hospitals make more since they would probably get paid per hour as opposed to cents per lines for a transcription company. TIA!
Hospital job is "work-at-home" paid hourly
Thank you for well wishes.
Hospice?
Anybody out there volunteer for hospice? I recently started my training for it and I am so excited. I have 18 hours of training to do before I actually am on my own. I can't wait.
Anybody else volunteer for hospice?
I am a very social person and I entered this job at home because it paid more money
than the jobs in the office and I was a single parent. I just learned to balance my life outside the work environment with things that did allow me to use my social skills
I do radiology now, paid by the hour, work from home, can it get any easier than that?
That should highest paid work at home jobs...look at number 7 to see the pic and listing!
That picture sure made me laugh. :)
The family can get free counseling through hospice even
if their mother was not a hospice patient. They have programs that the family participates in together and just programs for kids too. If they are able to associate with other kids that have experienced what they have that would probably be a tremendous help. They don't just talk about their feelings, but do activities and play games and just be kids, but if the emotions come then there is a trained person to help them.
Sounds like the dad could use some counseling too and maybe just a break from being a parent 24/7.
When my mother had cancer, hospice provided me
The hospital may also be a source of information on where you can get forms. The POA is an actual legal document. You could try to 'google' for free forms. You may want to think about a general POA so you can handle her finances, also, in case she becomes totally incapacitated. It makes a big difference in handling her affairs - without those papers, it makes it a lot harder to handle her affairs for her, including paying her bills and making decisions. Don't wait - get it done now just in case things get worse. Good luck and best wishes.

As stated below, I agree. Overall weekly average is approx. 600 lph sm
Now, granted there are days I can do over 1200 lines an hour, but overall within the week you have those dictations that take a little more time.
I have made more money on this platform than any other. Absolutely love it!
We have a small local paper that comes weekly in the mail...
and I spend most of my time counting the spelling errors when I read it. The best one was the headline one November that proclaimed - HAPPY THANKGSIVING. Did I mention this is a FREE paper. I would never pay for something like that.
Another one I saw a number of years ago, mirrow instead of mirror. And one time at my old job at a manufacturing plant, they were taking a bus trip to some shopping "outlits."
I am a teacher's kid and stuff like that really bugs me. Good thread by the way!
What is, on average, a normal weekly IC report production?
I need your opinions please….
I am an IC who works for four doctors who each dictate approximately 100 or more reports a week. They send them via over to their personal website and I download and transfer to Express Scribe (awesome program by the way). They tend to call me often and will ask for one or more patient’s report to be faxed over immediately for insurance purposes. Of course, they have no idea how complicating and time consuming this is on me, when I have to search for these specific voice files, one by one, and then transcribe the report, etc. I felt a bit of an attitude the other day when it took longer to perform my task.
I am wondering, am I just too slow? Is completing 400 or more reports (on average half page reports) a week slow, including transcribing these special request reports? I feel so stressed all the time now; their phone calls for insurance purposes are becoming more constant. I am wondering if they realize that I am not an employee, but an IC, and that there is a difference. How may reports do most full time IC’s complete within a week, plus deliver 2-3 times per week?
Thanks for any and all advice.
2 part time (totaling 40+/-) 1 pays weekly/1 biweekly.
Weekly for food. Biweekly for bills.
I remember in Weekly Reader the article discussing "pay TV" and how we didn't see that anyb
would ever pay money to watch TV. I always thought it would be in a coin box on top of the TV set. I couldn't imagine having enough money to do that.
Weekly Reader also predicted that one day we'd go to the store and pay with a card instead of money, that our money would be "virtual" and stay in the bank.
That was about 1960. It was actually a pretty close prediction.
Curosity- I am curious if I am making the normal amount of money weekly for MT. Would anyone care
to share their weekly amount of pay?

if mt paid 9, editor paid 4 or 5...how can company charge 14 and make it..sm
I know the going rate in our area is 14 cents per line. As MTs most companies here pay us 8 or 9 cents a line. Now add in the Editor rate at 4 or 5 per line..you are paying OUT more than you can charge a line. How would companies stay in biz?
Unless all work is sent by the company overseas at pennies per line, this would not pay for a company.
just curious how this works out
But how much are the US EDs gonna be paid? Typically this work is paid at 2-3 cpl. nm
:+
You don't get paid an hourly rate you get paid by line - sm
so because of how you are paid (not an hourly rate) you don't get OT, especially if you are an IC.
I would move on. I think it is so unfair not to be paid for spaces! I think we should get paid
per keystroke, but that'll never happen. I just think that these national companies are going to keep finding ways to cheat us. I found a job working for a hospital as an employee, paid hourly plus incentive, and they let us expand everything! Somebody's gonna have to kill me to make me give up this job. I will never go back to the national's again.
I feel for you though. I know that for us MTs those good jobs are few and far between and some have little choice but to work for the nationals. I just happened to luck into the job I have now. I just applied at the right time.
Good luck to you whatever you decide.
If those companies paid a fair wage, and paid more
all came out equal, people wouldn't feel the need to try to make up the deficit by going for the good stuff. I actually prefer the harder, juicier reports. But I can't make a living doing only that, because the pay is not commensurate with the difficulty. So even though I prefer not to, sometimes I have to pick up some of the easier, more boring 'line-o-matic' reports just to make ends meet. Tell your MTSO to make it work their while, and MTs will stop taking all the easy work away that you obviously would prefer to keep for yourself.
You wont show UE being paid because it is employer paid -
the employee will never have to pay this.
