How I do it....

I’ve been doing this for about six years now and I got into this field because I was interested in doing medical transcription.  Of course, I enjoy working from home too, but that wasn’t the reason I started.  I had no job because of being laid off and needed a new line of work.  My mother-in-law, who has over 20 years’ experience, said she would mentor me, which I am truly grateful for.  I drove 50+ miles ONE WAY for two years 3-4 times a week to be mentored in this field in her home office and then after that I had the privilege of working from home and YES it is a privilege IMO.  On occasion, I would work from home during those initial couple years.

My kids are now 11 and 14, but were younger when I started this.  I have made it clear to my entire family, including my husband, kids, parents, sister, and even friends, that I am working until 5 p.m.  I try my hardest to do any housework before or after work.  I think getting others to realize that you are actually working from home is the hardest thing.  I really had to repeatedly stress this to my family.  I try to make all personal phone calls before or after work.  My kids can interrupt for important things only, which they have to be reminded of from time-to-time.  I personally NEVER could have done this if my children were babies or toddlers.  It would not have worked for me because I like to work hard, get my workday over with, and then be off to enjoy my family, which I do not feel is possible with young children as they require so much of your time.  I think if you have younger children you have to be prepared for countless interruptions.  I think I would have worked evenings after the hubby got home or a split shift early in the a.m. and later in the p.m. because I know I couldn’t have given 100% to my work or my children if I were in that situation.

Anyway, these are just my thoughts.  We all should realize how lucky we are to be able to work from home, but it is work and must be prioritized as such.

To the OP, 200 lph is a good average IMO with a young one at home.  So much depends on the account too.
