I live in Houston on Lake Houston - (sm)
Kingwood and Humble school districts. We are pretty much in the country where we are, but only about 15 minutes but shopping, 30 minutes to downtown, so you can have both good schools AND country living, or closer in, more like city. In regard to the other poster, I have heard that Cy-Fair is a good school district, one of the best, so I hear - the only problem with living out there is that it is on the west side of Houston and is highly populated, and traffic is horrendous. Even on a Saturday morning, it can take you 15 minutes to go 2 miles.
We gave DH a new Ford ZX2 for her 16th birthday,
and then the next year got her a new Mustang for high school graduation. She used the Mustang throughout college and just sold it several months ago.
I felt better with her driving a new car in mint condition than an old clunker, especially since she was at school hundreds of miles away with no one to help her if she had car trouble.
1967 blue metal flake mustang.... for my 16th BD from my dad... nm

I currently get 8.5 cents per line as an IC. I can't tell you what the service charges the doctors, though. Most big hospitals/institutions in the Medical Center are outsourcing transcription to companies who can interface with their EMR systems. It goes without saying that most of these companies use overseas transcriptionists.
Same thing in Houston!
The same thing happened here in Houston. They found an elderly lady dead and her car stolen. She had opened up her home to the New Orleans evacuees and after living with her for several months, they strangled her and stole her car.
How do you explain this to children? My children were so disappointed that we did not open our home up to the Katrina evacuees, but this was exactly the type of thing I was afraid of. So we did other things to help out, but open my home? No way!
I feel sorry for the old guy in your town and hope that he has a full recovery. He is the one who deserves our prayers and good wishes.
Guardian Angels for Houston
Houston wants to get some of the NY Guardian Angels because of the increased crime in the city with all the Katrina evacuees. Schools are having increased violence also because the N.O. kids want to take over the school with the attitude, "You made us come here, so now it's our school." Letting them into my home. I think not. Wonder how many Oprah took in to her homes with all her preaching about us helping them. Right.
What is the going line rate in Houston, TX?
I have provided transcription services in Colorado for an internal medicine/nephrologist physician for the past five years. He recently moved to Houston and started a new practice there and has asked me to provide him a proposal for doing his transcription there. I was just curious if anyone could give me an idea what the going rate per line is in Houston.
Thanks in advance for any input.
Might try MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. NM

Wonderful people in Houston, yourself included!
Wonderful to know there are such caring folks out there.
I live in Houston and am debating whether to leave or not. Even being a
little ways from the coast, we could still see some bad damage. We do not have flood insurance, but we survived Allison during the floods, but we have 5 animals, 2 kids and a mother-in-law we would have to take with us. That means 2 cars. We are going to wait a while and see what happens.
I live 3 hours from Houston and our weathermen are
telling us to prepare for 60-80 mph winds on Sunday. It's a hassle to leave, but I wouldn't chance it, not with kids.
Any For Real Good MT Schools in Houston?
I'm looking for a real good MT school or some sort of MT on the job training or willing to train a person to work out of home. Have been LVN since 1984 but now disable, need something to do out of home. Please reply, disability not enough income. Thanks!

I love Whitney Houston's ballads, but
I know how high she can go and often times, the Idol judges don't like when the contestants sing her stuff, because they just aren't her.
Best of luck to your daughter!

More recently multispecialty clinic, previous to that hospital.
Yes, bought my SUV from Ebay from a reputable Infiniti Dealer in Houston and I live outside of Atlan
Best car I've ever, ever had. They specialize in luxury cars and large SUVs. Had hundreds of positive feedback from other buyers, very reputable seller. Got my Yukon for 8,000 under blue book. It was an awesome experience and we'd do it again in a heart beat. I had to drive out there to get it and it has everything in it - OnStar, media package, leather.
The only problem with that is you have to get your own financing and have the money in hand when picking up your vehicle.
Don't knock buying on ebay unless you've had a bad experience buying a vehicle. I've had my SUV for over a year. NO problems and if I sold it today I would make money on it.
Not until August 31st! Heeeeelp!! :)
Heart cath in August - $14K+ !!! nm

I don't know the particular MD, but I had plastic surgery in August. sm
What I did was talk to nurses. Nurses are a wealth of info, and they really know the docs. In my talking to nurses, I even found a few who had chosen the surgeon for themselves. I'm not shy, so I'll tell you that I had breast reduction surgery. Aside from my talking to nurses who worked in anesthesia, surgery, and oncology departments, I also spent a good amount of time with the doc. I made sure he was board certified, asked lots of detailed questions, and he also showed me photos of previous patients and the results of the surgery. He showed me photos of both good and bad results, which was a really good thing. There are risks to any surgery, and it's good to actually see what can go wrong.
It took a while, but it really paid off on the end. My surgeon and I communicated well, and I'm very happy with the results of my surgery.
I just did the same thing back in August - sm
upgraded my "old" phone and bought a new flip phone for $20 at Dollar General (they wanted $50 on-line for the same phone. Called and had my minutes transfered, now all calls are 1 "unit" a call no matter where I am (was most 2 on my old one as I was usually roaming when I used it). I also got the double minutes for life plan, so all I have to do now is the yearly connection fee ($99), still a lot cheaper than buying and signing up for a 2-year contract anywhere else. The only difference I see with my new phone is it does not work as well as the old one did (it seems to work in more areas); but it works very well at home (the old one barely worked here if at all), just cuts out around the kids school and south of there (very remote there). Great phone to have for anyone who only uses it for emergencies or quick calls like, "oh, do we need milk, I am at the store." type stuff.
I asked in early August to change
accounts and was told NO. I also have a very difficult account with mostly ESL docs and residents, who ask you to go back and correct a million things or stay on there saying umm, umm, umm.
Would love to switch accounts or offices - something. I don't want to quit.
Well I DID have bleeding with my ectopic pregnancy in August, so it is possible.
An early ultrasound at the hospital was incorrectly read at the hospital as intrauterine, but when my OB/GYN did another ultrasound, it was ectopic.
Sept 5 - have a calm August up ahead - sm
the last 2 months have been nuts with Dr. appts (eye, dentist, oncologist, regular checkups); only have 2 scheduled this month, yeah, and only 1 weekend trip. Try to do some local stuff in the remaining month we have though if we don't fry first. Hit 100 today here in VA (NE of Richmond); it's 99 now and 5:30 p.m. NUTS!!!
40 degrees in August? Where do you live? Even Alaska is warm now.

Here in Cherokee County Alabama August 8 is first student day.
My DH works at the local school and he has been getting ready.
It slows down every August and January on both ER accounts that I have. This time sm
of year is the worst. I forget about it every year until it happens again. It usually picks up again at the end of August and then is really busy until the end of the year. It slows down a bit (not much) in the beginning of January and then is really, really busy until mid to late July into August.
I have been doing this for 13 years and the only year ever that it did not happen to me was last summer. Not sure why, but both hospitals stayed busy the entire 2006.
You have to work in their Harrison office. I contacted them in August, but I live across the
