Hospital is making transition from Lanier to Infusion...

Any input? I have looked on their web site and there are different programs and I have yet to understand which program or type of system they have, probably because the person who chose the system for the hospital knows next to nothing about transcription systems and can't tell me anything. One minute she tells me I will have a station like Lanier and the next she tells me I need to have high speed internet for it. (But she is not sure if that is for transcription or the hospital records program) So which is it? I believe we start next week this new system and I have to go to the hospital for training.
I wish I was better with change.

I have 13 years experience and just started a hospital job working from home making $16 an hour
and with a really good incentive plan. I live in the Kansas City area. $10 seems like a low starting point even with only two years experience which is the usual benchmark for hospital MT jobs.
It's been my experience that the low end of the pay scale for hospital employed MTs was around $12 an hour. Also, it's been my experience that the pay offered is usually based on years of experience and how well you perform on the transcription test.
I would say if their pay is that low, they should at least be making it up with incentive and it doesn't sound like they are.
JMO
Depends on what kind of hospital? Large urban hospital or small community hospital? SM
Also, is it a large teaching hospital? If so you have to consider there will be A LOT of different residents dictating, usually a lot of ESLs at teaching hospitals, and the residents rotate out and new ones rotate in every summer. So you can't expect to get the same dictators and build up your macros because the dictators change all the time.
I would say 9 cpl would be a pretty good offer for a small to medium community hospital where you will be doing the same dictators on a daily basis. But for bigger, urban or teaching hospitals I would want at least 12 to 15 cpl.
help with transition
I have been typing radiology for about 6-7 years now and with this new account that I am on my line count has dropped alot....and I mean alot. There are plenty of mammos and geez a tons of chest x-rays, and not too much in between. So I was pondering the thought of just changing to a different area where I might be able to acutally make money, which is why I started working out of the home in the first place.
SO MY QUESTION IS, is what area would be the easiet to transition to where I could actually make some decent money??????????
PLEASE someone help with this. I have typed a couple of different posts on this message board and NO ONE really ever replies, so that makes me think gosh...does anyone care about helping their fellow scribers, unless it is their problem and if they need help then it is different??!! SO just want a little advice.
Thanks to those who do care enough to reply.
transition
Can be very very difficult. We have hired several from clinic atmosphere only and they just can't do it. Big difference between the 2. My suggestion is you make sure you know your specialities and brusy up on your surgical notes.
EMR transition
I worked in a facility that went EMR. The only change that it made to my job as the Transcriptionist was the format that I worked on. I went from working in WP and printing out every report I did for the doc to review and sign, and then filing into patient's paper chart to working in a WP based software that sent the typed report directly to the patient's electronic record once the doctor approved it. EMR does not mean that our jobs are going the way of the dinosaur. EMR just makes the patient's records more readily available to their physicians and hospitals in case they are needed. Please research this before you give yourself an ulcer worrying about it.
Hi, Deeni! I did Lanier for several years and was always told that Lanier....sm
would only work with/accept/interface with other Lanier products, that everything was proprietary, but that was a few years ago and do not know if anything there has changed, wish I was of more help! Have a good one!
If it were me, I would use up the PTO prior to the transition. sm
I have lost mine in the past.
Spheris Transition
The hospital I have worked at for 10 years has outsourced all of our clinic and inpatient dictation to Spheris. All transcriptionists who want to go to Sphers are going to be offered positions. Anyone have any input? We haven't met with them yet to get their info on benefits, pay etc. I have read and heard great things and then just the opposite elsewhere, anyone have some good up to date information?
I think the problem is that you worked there during transition.
I suspect that if you came back now, you'd not have the same issues.
I hate to put a damper on your transition, but
Then you better stick with being an IC. When you work for a national, you are glued to your seat amongst the other cons out there. Good luck though.
Advice for transition to coding
As you can clearly see I have already posted this message below, but I didn't get any responce. I would REALLY appreciate any advice that I can get from anyone who is either looking into coding or is already in the business.
I am currently a Transcriptionist at a hospital and I am really interested in getting into the coding business. I was just wondering if there are any of you out there who have made this transition and if you have any tips or warnings for me. Any advice is appreciated.
I was able to transition from Rad to Acute Care
Don't know if this answers your question, but I really believe that I was able to successfully transition from Radiology to Acute Care by using the practice tools sold by AHDI (which I purchased at a member rate). Also, I recently took a Lab Webinar ($20) that gave excellent information!!! Plus, my membership dues are a tax write-off
What kind of alternate careers can MT's transition into?
Guys, I've finally made up my mind that the profession that we used to know is gone and is never coming back. The industry leaders have made it their business to turn MT's into the equivalent of sweatshop workers, and I don't find that dynamic at all appealing.
Can any of you give any suggestions as to what types of careers we might transition into and make a decent income? I'm polishing up my resume now, but I fear that I've stayed in this industry for far too long and have handicapped myself from being able to take advantage of any other career opportunities that might exist out there.
Any and all feedback would be appreciated.
sure i was. i'm making fun of the people who are making a case for background checks, etc
to do medical transcription at home as if they may do something AWFUL with the info they receive. So if you want an invasion of privacy let's REALLY invade it and make sure fat chicks don't transcribe because they are so busy eating they can't get the work done, they mess up the keyboard with food and if they are provided health insurance they will raise the rates for the company sky high because their health risks are higher than others. Then there are the psychological issues overweight people bring to the table. After we eliminate fat people, we can go on to eliminate diabetic people who may have low blood sugar while typing and go into a spell and type the wrong thing. I could go on and on through the process of elimination. How about prescribed medications that may cloud your thinking? So you take Ambien to sleep but you have an Ambien groggy hangover when you are transcribing? Should they transcribe. How about your teens are on your last nerves and you take a Xanax? Should you be allowed to transcribe?
You realize by doing that they're making more money & you're making less? You should reconsid
Hospital. I wish I'd never left my hospital job.
They'll only take me back if I start off working nights and weekends again at the bottom of the totem pole.
If you work for a hospital - how come no one from the hospital
called you?? Were they in the dark, as well?? How sad, that no one in your hospital communicates with the at home staff.
Lanier
Yes Transcend uses the voice writer on certain accounts. Just started using it.
Lanier VXP??
Anybody use Lanier VPX? I can't get my wav pedal to play these files. Any suggestions?
Lanier VXP
These can only be played with a Lanier footpedal. They have a proprietorial header on the voice file and cannot be opened without the appropriate footpedal.
I have a lanier - sm
I would like to know more too. Thanks.

Does anyone use a lanier voice writer and looking for extra work? Thanks!
lanier
I know this may be redundant, but try unplugging everything and then start over. I have had this happen and it corrected it. Good luck!
Lanier LX-219-1
Can someone tell me what the VVI board underneath the Lanier machine is used for?? Does the Lanier machine with the phone attachment work the same way even though it does not have that VVI board???

If you use a calling card to dial into the hospital system using a Lanier, do your phone card minutes start to decrease immediately or only when you have the foot pedal down and are listening to the dictation? I hope this question makes sense? Tx

On mine assign job is on the right side 5th one down - good luck!
IC Lanier
Check out MDI-MD.
Could someone tell me what a Lanier is.
I know I heard of it but not sure exactly what it is.
Lanier
It is a device that hooks into a phone line and you hook in your headphones and receive the dictation through there. Expensive peice of equipment. You have to dial into where ever your dictation is coming from. Does that help you at all?
I currently use it.
Lanier
Looking for an affordable digital system that would allow at least 4 people to dictate at the same time. Since they dial into the server with Lanier, is it possible for more than one person to be dictating at the same time? Would you need more than one phone line to allow for this? (Not sure if this system would allow for that or not). Any suggestions?
Thanks.
lanier
if you know job #, use the assign by job # key and reassign it to yourself. if you don't have that key, holler and I'll give you programming directions.

Try unplugging the phone lines from the modem (flat box) for about 10 minutes and then plug back in.
I need some help. I have a Lanier LX-219-1 with VTI. sm
I need a terminal block, power source and pedal. Can anyone tell me where I can get these. I have checked Executive Communications and they have them new. I would like to buy used if at all possible. Thanks!
Lanier P-145
Hello,
Does anyone know how to use the Lanier P-145(An old telephone 4 tape recording system)? Or does anyone know of a manual I can get my hands on? I just purchased a used one and I have tried everything and I can not get it to work!!! It does power on, but I am not sure if I am hooking everything up correctly.
Thank you very much.

Lanier
Agree. Lanier the best, but expensive. $600-700 for mine 12 years ago. Lasts forever, and you can spend the same $600-700 on cheaper models that will need to be replaced with new on a regular basis. Have tried Olympus, Panasonic, Sony - all lasted less than a year.
Lanier 219
Any one here know ths machine like the back of their hand? I have a few questions about functions of some of the keys.
Lanier
Sometimes they get sensitive and can do that, or also not give a full visual read-out in the window. When that happens, the tech tells us to fully power it down, totally unplug from its power source (from the wall, etc.) and let it sit for a full 5 minutes. This cools the unit down and since they are preprogramed which also includes programming of your footpedal, this allows the preprogramming to come back to its original state. Mine does stuff like that about every month or so. Most of them are pretty old. Also, you may have to get technical support if powering down does not work, to check your pedal settings. Hope this helps. I know these "old dinosaurs" get fussy sometimes.

I am trying to find out what are the advantages/disadvantages of Lanier versus other platforms?
Harder/easier?
Outdated/up-to-date?
Lanier is the best
Any transcription product with Lanier on the name is #1 in my book.
Lanier
Lanier is one of the oldest, slowest, clunkiest systems around. I actually quit a job that was paying me 11 cpl on Lanier and took one for 9-3/4 on WAV and am making waaaay more on the WAV account. Lanier stinks.
Lanier help
I need the command prompts to use to access a Lanier system with non-Lanier equipment.
I access 2 other Lanier systems with the same equipment with NO problem at all. But this one is recognizing me as a "dictator" and not a "transcriber".
The prompts I do have, don't work. They are "call in, wait for beep, enter #6" I should hear "welcome" then enter my ID and should be good to go.
I've spent almost 3 hours searching for the solution on the internet and I need help fast. There are a ton of jobs waiting for me on this new system - so I'm losing $$$
thanks in advance for any help or suggestions,

Is it possible to get Lanier voice files with anything other than a Lanier? I tried calling in on a Dictaphone, but it doesn't work. Seems like I remember someone posting about this, but I can't remember how she said it was done.
Thanks.

Thanks so much. Other than the color being black, it looks the same as my old faithful friend that was white or beige, but not black. I will try it. Thanks again...happy listening and typing to ya grasshopper.

Questions on Lanier 219 or 230
Could some MTs that use either of these systems please email me. I have a ton of questions concerning these machines and don't know where to look. Looking at working on an account that requires one of these machines and have been looking on ebay. Asked a few questions to one seller and I don't think he knows what he has. Any help would be really appreciated.

Lanier.....TransNet???
Hi Everyone!
Do you know if Lanier makes a sofware package similar to TransNet in which you can sign onto their system, download your voice files, and then sign off? If so, what is the name of that software?
Thanks!!!
Lanier hook up
I purchased a Lanier 230 and come to find out it did not come with the required cables to hook this stupid thing up. I got the base unit with large display, the power supply, the foot pedal, and the VTI but no cables. Can someone tell me what cables I need and how to plug it in so it will run properly? The only thing that came with it is the quick check brochure on how to program it. Nothing is mentioned on hook up.
Thank you in advance everyone. I would like to get to work on an account but don't even know how to get started. I figured posting here would get a quicker response. I don't want to go bald... hehe
