is in college right now majoring in criminal justice.  He is at the jr college and also goes to the local university to attend Army ROTC.  He can also pursue MP training while in ROTC, and will get that experience before he officially enlists.  After this year my son will be attending the local university full time, and he will be contracted on his third year and will not actually be "taken away" until he finishes his degree.  In other words, he is getting his education first and then will go in with rank as opposed to being at the bottom of the barrel.  He is paying for his college through grants and the state pays him an allowance for his living expenses for staying in school and getting good grades.  This may be a way for your son to get his education first before enlisting and when he does go in he will be able to attend officer boot camp and in no time will be up to the rank of captain.  My brother after finishing his B.S. Degree joined the Army, went to officer boot camp and by age 25 was already a captain in charge of his own batallion out of Ft. Sill, OK.  So, there are ways to still get your education and get serve your country.
