Here in Oregon -- Comcast and what we did

Posted By: Patti on 2008-01-18
In Reply to: Northwest Indiana MTs - Siren

I live on a floating home here in Portland and several of us were having that problem with Comcast and it was because the wiring or the cables were old and going bad.  Enough of us complained and I went pretty high up to complain and they finally rewired or re-cabled and now have not had a problem in over 3 years.  You need to keep complaining, call for a repair man to come out, keep your repair sheets with why they came out, and even if it goes back up get the repair guy out to check things out.  The cost of sending them out is quite high for them.  But keep calling and complaining, an squeeky wheel does get oiled.  I was very nice at first, then started calling locally and losing it a little bit I did get results.

Is this TRX, Inc., in Oregon? If so..
run away! The owner is a lunatic!
TRX, inc. in Oregon

I work for TRX, inc. out of Oregon.  I'm very happy with the company, their respect for the MTs and how they treat their people.  Not sure what the other person is talking about.  I've never heard of or had a bad experience with them.  I would highly recommend this company.  They're one of the few that are trying to train new MTs in our profession as well as trying to keep the experienced MT.  Good luck to you and please use your own judgement. :)

Oregon
Electric was $23 and gas was $17 -- 1000 sq foot house on the river.  Guess I won't complain, don't have a/c -- just fans but I can deal with the heat.  Highest bill this last winter was over Christmas with Christmas lights, cold -- gas $87 and electric $67. Work at home also.  I think I will stay where I am.
In Oregon

The problem that people are having in Oregon is that the owners of the park are selling the land to developers and suddenly the people have to move their mobile home which sometimes costs more than the land is worth.  So that is one problem we have been having here.  Condo might be better if you don't want a lot of maintenance.

If you are in Oregon
Providence Health Systems is just now switching over to Escription- I'm a little leery of it, I hope it ends up being as great as they say. I am a confirmed mouseaholic and really struggling with it.
Oregon salaries
I am tired of being called a liar that I embelish my income, etc.  So I just called 10 MT's out here in Oregon that I have known for quite a while and they all hit between 45 and 60K this year.   Of course we do all the accounts that you a lot of you don't like to do which involve pick-up, delivery, printing, the smaller one to two doctor offices, being friendly and interactive with the staff.  And we keep our line charge lower that a lot of you like and some of you have told me that I am bringing the MT world down by working for this amount -- we all charge between 10.5 to 12.5 cpl using Sylcount.  Through all of this, and none of us work more than 45 hours per week -- me I am the highest, most work 30 to 35 hours, we have made the money and so I guess we are doing something right.  To those that say we are padding our incomes --I think you are all jealous and just don't have the umph to go out and do it.  And yes, we have ESL's and some work  hospital overflow, surgical center, Wound Clinic, clinics, psych reports.   There are other niches out there --ya gotta have the drive and the umph to go and get them.
Live in Oregon...

and I had bilateral cataracts done about 2 years ago.  I had no insurance and had to pay for the whole thing myself.  Including absolutely everything (even anesthesiology) it was right around $7000, but I have a feeling it depends on what state you live in.  I have to tell you though it is definitely worth it...my eyes were in terrible shape and I had to get it done or lose my driver's license...afterward (and I had worn glasses all my life) I only need the reading-type of glasses you get at the drug stores.  It is so awesome!!!

Good luck!

Oregon -- really varies

11 t0 14 cpl small MTSO   12 to 18 large MTSO.  Really varies around here and also depends on whether you deliver, print, or all by digital.

When you turn 18 here in Oregon....sm
the check automatically gets sent to the child by the state. My husband has paid over $1000 a month in support for over 8 years, now down to $700 a month because one child dropped off at 21. All CS is now a garnishment, so the state cuts a check. When the support obligation ends whoever is paying the support has to notify the court that the child has turned 21 or whatever age is in the divorce decree and then the court will issue an end to the child support. My husband's decree says to age 21 and they must be attending college full-time, at least 14 credits. If my step-daughter doesn't carry 14 credits for even one term the support ends and she has to petition to get it back, but only if her dad agrees to it.
Oregon too...$160 last month....
everything electric, no A/C (live in the Coast Range, don't really need it) but have an electric fence that is always on to keep the horses in and the usual appliances, etc. It was only $63 for May, but we were gone on vacation for the month so no hot water use, etc. Got an energy efficient washer and dryer a couple of months ago, has really helped out the bill too.
Oregon weather
It is cold in the morning but dry and sunny throughout the day up to about 50.  Beautiful on the river.  Know that our wet weather is coming soon though.  Gotta run and make deliveries.
Oregon in house
Oregon,Portland is 18.41 to 22 per hour with good benefits and they will move you home after six months of training, but you do have fixed hours to work just at home.
When I subbed in Oregon, my MTSO SM

charged $6 a page and paid me $4 a page...I thought that was awesome!  Good luck to your friend.

Satellite recommendations - Oregon

I'd appreciate any recommendations from folks living in central or north-central Oregon and using satellite for transcription.  Thanks!

I am the 26th from Oregon to sign.

Comcast
Just wanted to let everyone know that I just ordered Comcast digital phone service. There are no restrictions. Unlimited is unlimited.
comcast

I've had their phone svc for many months now. the only problem is that when the cable goes out, so does your broadband, phone, everything, so make sure you have a cell phone so you can call in your outage.  I'm in Indiana and dialed in to NY and there was never a question about how much I was on it.

Comcast
This is unlimited throughout the country. I could have added international, which there will be a charge for later, but I don't need it. I told them what I do for a living, that I am not speaking to a person but dialing into a dictation system. She had me hold while she checked and came back on telling me "unlimited is unlimited." I could have kissed her!
Comcast
Hmmm...I was told something different.
Comcast
If you have their cable and internet, you get the phone rate for $39.95.
Comcast
I just talked to Comcast out here in Oregon and they told me that if I was in anyway using my phone for any "calls  that generated an income" that I would be considered a "business" and there would be a business charge for the "unlimited long distance".  So I think in time they will catch up with any of us and it will be the same as ATT, etc.  If it generates an income, it is a business.   It is like my Comcast internet, they wanted to charge me the "business rate" since I used it for business which was almost double of the "residental rate".  So I think right now each area does not know what the other area is doing/saying but once they get up and running if they can ding you extra charges they will.  So enjoy it while you can.   Patti  -- yes I talked to as high up manager as I could.
Anyone with Comcast and have you
in any way been told you were using the internet too much? One of the consumer advocates here in town yesterday probably about the most upset I have ever heard. Comcast is telling some consumers their internet service is going to be disrupted for using "too much" although when asked how much is too much, saying that is their secret?
comcast
I have comcast as well and never heard such a thing. I am basically on almost 24/7 so this is excessive and never, never heard such a crazy thing!
Comcast
The only high-speed we have in this area IS Comcast. For years, they were slow slow slow, constantly going down. I called them at least several times a week. They finally laid a new cable which has taken care of a lot of the problems but they should be a lot faster still. I called constantly and demanded constant credit on my account (which I got) even though they tried to find excuses such as it must be MY computer, MY lines, MY problem. When I called the utilities commissioner for my state, all MY stuff started working again. If they don't listen, call your utilities commissioner and then send e-mail to Comcast letting them know they will be hearing from them. Maybe that will wake them up.
Comcast
Give up and get on DSL. When Comcast bought out Time Warner, NY internet service went from reliable to having to reset and reboot every morning. I have a friend who has to reset and reboot every few hours. She simply loses internet service in the middle of whatever she is doing. To make matters worse, if you need a tech's help with Comcast, be prepared for a wait. I was told it would take at least a week for a tech to come to my home in spite of my explaining I earned by living over the net and could not possibly afford a week without working.

DSL has been awesome - always reliable, great service. Extremely easy set up. Have NEVER had to call a tech about anything. I would highly recommend this internet provider to everyone.
Comcast
Please overlook typos. Hopefully I am better than that.
Comcast..........
I live in Mississippi..... I've had it since moving to this area, about 10 years. From the get go we've had nothing but up and down service and at the worst possible times...when I'm working!! It will go down without explanation...customer service never has an answer, so after several years of constant problems, I finally found a local supervisor (got his number) and he actually fixed the problem. He sad he wasn't getting the information that this area was having all these problems. Haven't had a lot of problems since, even though it does still ramdonly go down..... we NEVER get advanced warning of anything, ever!! We've still had some problems but nothing like before.

I can't say it's fast, even though that's what they claim it's supposed to be. That has been our only option until recently... now there's DSL but still don't know if this will be any better.
I have/had Comcast phone too

I have Comcast home phone service and it is expensive in my area. It was about $60 a month (including all the taxes & fees) but I only had unlimited calling throughout the east coast, mainly the New England area. I downgraded my phone service to the basics and now I use my cell phone for the majority of my calls, it actually turned out to be cheaper for me to use the cell over the landline. I kept the landline hooked up just for a home phone for emergencies & for ppl to call in to us but for me to make calls, they all go thru the cell.

I originally signed up for Comcast back in 2003. I know they are in stiff competition now with Verizon and both companies are offering better, more competitive rates.

Comcast Update
Comcast digital phone installed today. I cannot believe how clear it is! Luv it!
Adelphia/Comcast
I'm confused too. I was told Adelphia would be changing over to Comcast as well.

I've decided to give Verizon a try though. I'll keep Adelphia during my 30-day trial and see how it goes. I hope the change over to Comcast goes smoothly without too many outages.
Vonage or Comcast
I have had Vonage for about two months now and I have had no problems at all. My friend has it too. I wasn't charged for the modem, and I have two lines with them. They did charge a setup or installation fee of about 42.00, but they give you the first month for free..so I didn't think that was too bad. Most companies do charge some kind of installation fee no matter where you go. I don't use a C-phone or anything though, so I can't say whether there are problems with that or not. If you have Comcast in your area, they now have digital phone with unlimited long distance. Every Comcast phone customer will have it before long, because they are doing away with their regular phone service and switching completely to digital. Which I'm not too happy about, because if your internet connection goes down, then you're stuck with no phone. No more land lines with them. If you have internet and cable through them as well, you can bundle the three and pay 99.00 a month for all 3 services for a year. :O))
Can you even get to the Comcast homepage?
I've tried typing it in manually, have used FireFox and Internet Explorer, and nothing is coming up. Maybe I should fire up the Mac and see if I can get in through Safari.
Comcast Internet
Does anyone use Comcast for broadband. I do, but I can't get onto the Comcast.net website, and email is not coming through Outlook today. I was wondering if the problem is on my end or theirs. I can get to other websites (like this one!), but I'm also having problems with time-outs on many, many other sites, not just Comcast. I'm wondering if anyone else is having a similar problem.
Comcast really stinks.........
I used to have their cable internet here in Cresson, PA, but I have switched to Verizon high-speed DSL, and I absolutely love it.  They do have special sign ups, which you can you lock in at that rate, I did!  Sure hope you get rid of Comcast!
Same here, had problems with Comcast
and kept complaining until they finally sent a repair guy that actucally cared. Funny, when he tried to type in differnt web sites just to see how fast everyting was working he had to ask me to do it cause there are hardly any letters on my keys. LOL
Comcast problems

Is anyone else out there having connectivity issues with Comcast?  I was formerly with Insight which was recently bought out by Comcast.  Since that change, the connection is often slow, often resulting in timing-out, which means I have to log back in repeatedly.  This is making work very difficult.  I called Comcast which did no good.  I have reset/reconfigured my router and modem, and done just about everything else I can think of  . . . all to no avail.  I am seriously considering changing to a different internet service provider, but dread going through that process.  If anyone has any tips or ideas, please let me know!

I had trouble with Comcast and lost

3-1/2 days of my 15 day pay period.  Try getting them to fix something the next day even if you had to have them the week before.  You just have to sit and wait for the next available.  To me this is not fair.  They didn't fix it the first time around.

Anyway I lost 3-1/2 days work and I am an IC.  There was no way to prepare for this other than to try to have backup money.  That is one reason I can't get anything saved.  It it things like these that are beyond our control.  Sometimes it happens on the work end and sometimes on your end.  Either way, you lose.

My brother-in-law uses Vonage with Comcast.net...sm
and sometimes when he calls us the calls are crystal clear and other times it sounds like he's talking in a cave. He experiences the same on his end. He did tell us that once he called their tech-support division and had a horrific time trying to understand the person on the other end because their accent was so heavy and they seemed to have problems understanding his questions.
I'm with Comcast and am having trouble, too. I called...
them this morning and spent about 40 minutes trying to do different things and thought it was fixed, but it is not. If I put in an address manually it sometimes comes up, but not always. Good luck.
Has anyone had experience with Comcast e-mail
nm
I have Comcast e-mail; don't know about Incredimail. nm
nm

I use Incredimail with my Comcast account...
and so far like it! I use it with my Yahoo email account. Do you have it or are getting it?
I have Incredimail AND Comcast E-mail
and I LOVE it! For some reason I couldn't view my e-mail through Incredimail and had to go directly through Comcast's site and I hated it! I'm so glad that my Incredimail is working again...it's so much more efficient (and fun)! Let me know if you have any questions about the setup.
I am a Comcast customer (HSI/cable TV) and wonder if I

should go with Comcast for long distance calling.   Or, is there a better plan?  Vonage perhaps?  I have AT&T right now, maybe they have a package that includes free long distance calling.

e-mail and outlook - comcast
You should be able to do exactly what you are saying.  I don't know the exact steps, but you should be able to use outlook as I do this and have atlantic broadband as an ISP.  I don't like using the ISP home page, I prefer Outlook...  it should work.
I have not heard of Comcast phone service
It sounds like a good idea. If service goes down, it is never for long. And most people also have a cell phone for back up.

How much are we talking about? Hmmm?
Comcast has unlimited voice svc. if in your area--NM

I've tried comcast as well...doesn't work!

I read about that, Comcast claimed they used too much bandwidth, but SM
it is supposed to be unlimited.
