Take a document that you have already done and figure out what the number of lines based on their count. Now, determine what you need to charge based on what you have been paid (or would expect to be paid) for the document. I would suggest doing this with several documents and coming up with an average.


You don't say whether this is a digital or tape account, so don't forget to figure in your materials, gas and delivery time if you are providing printed documents delivered to their office.


While you may be the only one in a 50-mile radius who is doing pathology, if this is a digital account that really doesn't matter since anyone who is capable of sending/receiving digital voice files could do the work for wherever they're located.


I would be careful that you don't take the idea of pathology being a "speciality" too seriously; we're all specialists in different areas such as cardiology, oncology, ob/gyn, etc., and a line rate is a line rate. Charge what you think you're worth, not what the dictation is about.
