I am not here to train anyone. I expect that since my company has a strict requirement on how much and what type experience an MT has, gives a comprehensive test and talks to the MT that they have certain basic skills.
If you got someone to take your test for you, lied on your resume and bluffed your way through the phone call, that's not my problem. Here is the work--you can do it or you can try to bluff your way through it too.
You said all the same things below in response to my other post. What I've found is that people who have attitudes like yours are usually the people who are guilty of not researching and leaving tons of blanks. When confronted, they bluster and blow smoke about how I get paid to fill in all their hard work, they are just EXCELLENT TRANSCRIPTIONISTS--it's a joke. You know it and I know it.

The truth will set you free and the truth is more low level income people w/o education or proper
skills to keep up their home or train their children live in trailer homes and low income housing. If that sets you off, maybe you should not visit these threads or read the posts regarding others viewpoints on trailer parks. They have zoning laws against them in many communities because they draw undesirable people are not particularly pleasing to the community as a whole, bringing property values down. If you have issues with this, seek out the government in various communities and have them change the laws. Fact is fact and you cannot dispute these facts.
The truth stings sometimes and I congratulate MTStars for having the kahoonas to post truth.
Tired of being lied to. I'm a big girl and can handle the truth. Why can't you?
Opened a can of worms, eh? Truth hurts, but it is TRUTH!
8 cpl is about the top out in the US MT industry. If you're making more consider yourself lucky because it just might be snatched away from you at any moment. For the 14 cent per liner, good for you! You went out and got your own accounts. Others should follow your example. As far as the "stupid" MT comment, keep in mind that she was not consistent and **often** had one excuse after another not to work, yet I could see her online and when I would ask her why she was online she would give VERY lame excuses. Also, keep in mind that I also was the one who helped this gal out monetarily to begin with and she took advantage of my generosity. Don't make me out to be the bad gal here just because I own a service. The shoe could easily be on your foot.
So, NEWS FLASH, if you have an MT position that is paying more than 8 cpl, consider it a real blessing and pray that your job isn't outsourced offshore.
You don't have to believe, the truth is the truth. I, too, have seen with my own two eyes and ha
years experience as an MT. I say misfortune because MTs with this much experience usually have gigantic egos and feel like they've "seen it all and done it all." They simply don't make mistakes. Not possible, no way. This particular MT became irate with me. She actually threw her 20+ years experience in my face and said "I've been doing this for over 20 years, I think I know what I'm doing!" It was painfully obvious, she did not have a clue. She'd been doing it wrong for 20 years and no one ever told her, so she thought she was right.
I had another MT with 10 years experience call me to scream at me and hung up on me when I tried to explain her errors to her.
The plain truth is, some people can't take criticism whether it be constructive or destructive. They don't like to be wrong or be told their wrong. Egos get in the way. We are all guilty of letting our egos get in the way from time to time, but in this field, you need to be willing to admit you're wrong and you need to be able to accept criticism gracefully and give criticism diplomatically.
As an editor, I encourage MTs to let me know if they disagree with any corrections I've made. I am happy to provide MTs with my reference materials and resources. I am happy to admit when I am wrong and I am happy to say that I make mistakes too. Just don't try to tell me that an MT with 16 years experience can't possibly be making terminology mistakes - she can and probably has in the past and will again in the future.
Ain't it the truth!!
This is just too much fun!
Yes, that's the truth.... Think about this...
When you play by the rules, work hard, and pay your own way, you are penalized. When you have 4 kids by age 20, never marry, never finish school, and sit on your butt with an occasional ambulation to the mail box for a free check, you get priority over everyone else. Our society REWARDS poor choices an penalizes those who try to play by the rules and do things in the right order.
Isn't that the truth
If you don't give your name, who is going to talk to you in the first place.
Anyone have connections with a nurses UNION who might be interested in taking us on!!!
That is the truth
I know first hand because I was on it, and off it and went what was left for me to do on my account was so bad, I went back on it again. I wanted off again when the letter came out and I was told remember what happened when you went off it the last time, your primary account is worse now, more doctors have been added to the ASR.
The truth is....
We've only been doing modern measurements of temperature and weather for a little over 100 years. If the arrival of Man on earth is only the last few seconds of a 24-hour period of time of the earth's history (figuratively speaking), then 100 years of measuring weather and temperature is nothing more than a nanosecond, if that. And if you do some research there are prior periods of very active hurricaine seasons in the 50s and 60s, and even prior to that. The Atlantic was very quiet from 1970 to 1993 and then a new cycle has begun, reverting back to the pattern of the 50s and 60s. As I said before, the Earth is an ever changing dynamic place where weird things happen, and there isn't always a reason that we can explain or influence.
More truth
Will global warming increase the frequency or intensity of hurricanes in the future?
Just about everyone is now aware of climate change, so when an extreme weather event occurs, it is not unusual for people to ask if it is the result of global warming. Because of the link between higher ocean temperatures and hurricanes, there is speculation that hurricanes will increase in frequency or intensity in a warmer world, with higher wind speeds and greater precipitation. As stated above, the frequency of hurricanes has not increased on average over the long term. However, scientists believe that global warming will result in more intense hurricanes, as increasing sea surface temperatures provide energy for storm intensification. An MIT study published recently in Nature provides the first data analysis indicating that tropical storms are indeed becoming more powerful over time.
Higher ocean temperatures may also influence the tracks of hurricanes, increasing the likelihood of hurricanes tracking through the Caribbean or making landfall on the U.S. east coast. Although his phenomenon is not very well understood, a track of unusually deep and warm water appears to have led Katrina directly to the Gulf Coast when it struck Louisiana and Mississippi.
Was the 2004 hurricane season more active than normal?
The National Hurricane Center predicted that the 2004 Atlantic hurricane season would see above normal tropical storm activity, with 12-15 named storms, 7 reaching hurricane strength. This prediction was close but conservative, as there were 15 named storms and 9 hurricanes. The National Hurricane Center described this number of events as “well above-normal activity.”
The number of hurricanes making landfall in the U.S. (four: Charley, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne) was also above normal. Monetary damages from these events exceeded $40 billion and were concentrated in Florida, which had never before experienced more than three hurricanes in a single season.
How does the 2005 hurricane season compare so far?
The National Hurricane Center has predicted significantly greater activity for 2005, with 18-21 tropical storms and 9-11 hurricanes projected, 5-7 of which are expected to reach category 3 or greater. So far the season is exceeding expectations; as of September 15, the following activity had occurred:
· 15 named tropical storms
· 7 hurricanes
· 3 major hurricanes (Dennis, Emily, Katrina).
· The earliest date on record by which four named tropical storms formed (Arlene,
Bret, Cindy, Dennis formed before July 5)
· The earliest date on record by which 2 category 4 hurricanes occurred (Dennis
formed July 4-7; Emily formed July 10-16))
· The most destructive hurricane in U.S. history (Katrina)
· Almost half the season yet to come
The 2005 Atlantic hurricane season has the potential to be the most active season on record. Bookmark this page to get updated information as the season develops.

that's the truth and they get one sm
price to transcribe it and the editors fix it all up nice and pretty. Its a joke all the way around. I would quit and scrub toilets before I would edit any work from over there!
Let the truth be known......
Maybe it went overseas....just like the other companies who all of a sudden do not have work. There was a post a few weeks ago that said they did.
Ain't that the truth!

How about just because it's the truth?

The truth
Having been a court reporting student, I can tell you any online course would be a complete waste of your time. You definitely need a class to go to each and every day.
Court reporting is exceedingly hard to learn and takes a lot of time. It takes great discipline to learn it and to build up your speed. If you think you can take an online course to become a court reporter, you're only fooling yourself and throwing away good money.
And yes, job prospects are great for court reporters, and the pay is excellent, but you have to be GOOD!
Here's the truth: Although I have met many SM
smart MTs through the years, I have met an equal number of dumb-as-rocks-in-a-box MTs. You know, the ones who can't do anything without specific direction (hit this key and then that key), can't solve even the simplest of problems, etc.

The Estimated IQ's of American Presidents-Fiction!
Summary of eRumor:
This email claims that a think tank in Pennsylvania determined the IQ's of American presidents from Franklin D. Roosevelt to George W. Bush, rating bush as the lowest and Bill Clinton as the highest.
The Truth:
This was written from the fantasies of someone who adores Bill Clinton and doesn't think much of George W. Bush. The "think tank" is not identified and there is no such service as Bakersville News, a reporter named Jennifer Borenstein, a sociologist named Werner Levenstein, or a psychiatrist named Patricia Williams involved in any such project. Rich Buhler, the founder of TruthOrFiction.com and a former member of the news media says, "Take it from me. This eRumor was not written by anybody who has ever been a professional journalist. The style betrays the hoax as much as the misinformation."
A real example of the story as it has been circulated:
The Intelligence of our Presidents
Bakersville News Service 6-28-01 12:32 PM CST
by Jennifer L. Borenstein
The intelligence of our presidents has never been seriously scrutinized at any time in our history until now. There is a widespread perception that President G. W. Bush is not qualified for the position he holds. That increasing awareness by the people has led to a study of the intellectual ability of all presidents for the past fifty years.
There have been twelve presidents in that time, from F. D. Roosevelt to G. W. Bush. All were rated based on scholarly achievements, writings that they alone wrote, their ability to speak effectively, and a number of psychological factors.
The conclusions of the study, conducted by an independent think tank located in Scranton, Pennsylvania were surprising. This think tank includes high caliber historians, psychiatrists, sociologists, scientists in human behavior, and psychologists. Among their ranks are Dr. Werner Levenstein, world-renowned sociologist, and Professor Patricia A. Williams, a world-respected psychiatrist. All members of the think tank are experts at being able to detect a person's IQ from the criteria stated earlier.
After four months of research, these learned men and women have determined the IQs of each president within a range of five percentage points. The IQs listed below are the norms for each president.
147 Franklin D. Roosevelt (D)
132 Harry Truman (D)
122 Dwight D. Eisenhower (R)
174 John F. Kennedy (D)
126 Lyndon B. Johnson (D)
155 Richard M. Nixon (R)
121 Gerald Ford (R)
175 James E. Carter (D)
105 Ronald Reagan (R)
099 George HW Bush (R)
182 William J. Clinton (D)
091 George W. Bush (R)
The non-partisan researchers who evaluated the twelve presidents determined that the six Republican presidents for the past 50 years had an average IQ of 115.5, with President Nixon having the highest IQ, at 155.
President G. W. Bush was rated the lowest of all the Republicans with an IQ of 91.
The six Democrat presidents had IQs with an average of 156, with President Clinton having the highest IQ, at 182. President Lyndon B. Johnson was rated the lowest of all the Democrats with an IQ of 126. The margin of error is plus or minus five percent.
This study was initiated on February 13, 2001 and completed on June 17, 2001.
This study validated the widespread feeling of people about the sitting president. President Bush was rated low because of his inability to command the English language, his lack of any scholarly achievements, and an absence of anything authored by him that would reflect an intellectual effort.
TRUTH
Just like in transcription, we learn the meanings of words and apply them in our work. TRUTH, the definition, is that which is from God for all people for all time, and his son and his passion is the truth, and the life.
Just tell her the truth!
If you tell her what happened and that you feel very uncomfortable around her husband you will get everything out. Don't just let it go to spare her feelings or your friendship. What is so fun about hanging out with a friend and her husband when you are nervous and appauled the whole time. If she gets mad at you and doesn't believe you, she isn't a friend worth keeping. If she values the fact that you told her the truth, she is a keeper. You also need to confront him. Tell him that he does not deserve a woman such as his wife and that even though she may be blinded, you know what kind of person he really is.
there is truth to this
we got a letter from our company president for MT Week; in it he tells us to take care of ourselves, exercise, watch our weight, eat right. There are many health problems related to not doing this, obesity and bad food choices, and being sedentary lead to diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, problems breathing, back problems, and these are partially responsible for rising healthcare costs. Take care of yourself, people.
Here's more truth for YOU ...
the more that you talk, the more that your attitude shows, and the more that MY POINT is made.
truth or not
I am American, will not post or place ad for job on a nonAmerican site, except to state my displeasure. Try to find a job on this site when all posts are answered by off shore applicants. Try to find a job that does not off shore when run by off shore company.
You may not care about our jobs, education and economy BUT I DO. Do not come on here for years stating how you dislike off shore and then defend the change - NO WAY I am not a hypocrite. I will always post displeasure

Truth
is a relative thing. What you are receiving here and most message boards is opinion. This opinion could be sour grapes at a particular company, or the actual truth about working conditions at a company.
There are no guarantees when you take a job in this field or any other. There are bad bosses everywhere and bad co workers. There are also very good ones.
I think sometimes people are looking for someone to tell them that this is the perfect company in all ways. What is good for one is not necessarily good for another. Take the opinions with your other research as you look into a company, but do not rely on them solely.
boy, ain't :) that the truth!!!

VR the truth
Here's the simple math of transcripton versus voice recognition.
If you typed a 100-line report for X amount of dollars,
or you typed in 50% of that 100-line job for half of X amount of dollars.
Seems the same, but it isn't.
Now, imagine that the easy part of the job will be done for you, and the 50% you have to transcribe or fix is the worst of the worst you experience, the slurred words, nonsensical word recognitions you have to take out that you are not paid for . . . . it's no picnic, and remember, your production will drop considerably. Right away, all those large normal expansions you created are obsolete too.
Let me say, . . . . VR is to transcriptionists what digging in trash is to dogs. Slim pickens. You will probably starve trying to make a living out of it.
Isn't That The Truth!
I have been in the MT field a while myself, but I have never seen any of them behave in the manner that happens on these boards. I really do not believe that is what it is here for. I am APPALLED myself that a MODERATOR has to tell grown **professional** women to stop the insults and name calling like they are 5 year olds. We have all been exactly where the newbies and less experienced MTs are (not referring to original poster) and I am so glad I never had anyone talk to me like that. There is a way of saying things to people and I just would not be able to sleep at night being that unkind to someone (Q board is the worst). I love reading informative posts and I really like helping people or sharing information, but sometimes things get so nasty on here that I just will not waste my time on here, reading or posting, and will not participate in mud slinging.
Like I said, you keep your chin up. It will not be easy, but things will come together for you. Good luck and thanks to you guys for cutting her some slack.
That's the truth!!!!!!!!!!! nm

So the truth is evil?? Whatever. nm
n
what's childish? it's the truth.
If you want to waste your money on that test, go ahead, but first ask your employer how much more money they are going to pay you because you are *certified*
What are you sick of, the truth?
Someone finally not letting you trash MQ? If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen, seriously.
Oh, well, by all means if it is HERE then it is the TRUTH.
If you don't like the cut back, either opt out or leave.
Hahahaha!! Uhm, the truth is
I wear a size 8. No fat here. Used to be but not anymore. See, I decided not to complain and whine anymore about it and do something! Now here I am 3 years later wearing 1 size better than what I originally wanted to. Anything is possible! :)
Truth be told, I once had an MT who did that.
Unfortunately, the company hierarchy stood behind the MTs "right" to type whatever they heard the doctor say, no matter how ludicrous it was, and that's when I began to realize that this major national and I just didn't see eye to eye on QA matters.
It was more important to keep a bad MT who would do a difficult account than to stand up for ethical transcription.
Honest to God truth...
I couldn't believe it. I just stared at this employee in disbelief and said "You're kidding, right?" She said no, they have different people all the time doing the "order taking" who read off a script - she said she wishes they would just let one of THEM do it because these "employees" are always getting the order wrong, offering drinks that they don't have in their particular franchise and generally making it harder on them to do their jobs. I told her I could REALLY relate to that!
I think people need to know the truth...
and not have the whole AAMT deal sugar coated. AAMT is NOT helping the U.S. MT. The entire organization is a sham. For example, the BOS has set rules by just exactly what authority? Then the second edition CHANGED some of those rules for what purpose? Um...so there was something new for the second edition.
They also are working on implementing some MANDATORY certification. Uh huh. They are attempting to do it in such a way that EVERY working MT will be required to certify.
The "AAMT=M-TEC" comment may not be exactly on target, but it certainly gives one food for thought.
I honestly believe the AAMT has deemed itself (themselves) the top doggy-dog and all-out ruler of the MT world . . . and they are the only ones that believe it.
Most healthcare providers have never HEARD of AAMT.
oh be real and tell the truth !
all of you are quoting prices of 9, 10 and 12 cents and I think you're all fibbing. Every national I've contacted talks about 6 and MAYBE 8 cents per line and I have 10 years exper. So where did you guys find these so-called companies? I'll bet you anything no one will quote the companies paying the big bucks, will ya.
And Ain't that the truth, Ruth!
I hear everything you're saying!
I just picked up a big account last week. They like my work so well they told their neighboring physicians, who now want to use my service as well. Unfortunately, I will not be able to take them on because I'll need subcontractors as it will be too much work for me, and I REFUSE to go through all the daily drama involved.
Like you said, it's ALWAYS something with them - some excuse - sloppy work - Internet down - regardless of what you pay, and in the past I have paid ten cents/gross line, and I still can't get a decent job done.
Also, what I've found quite often, too, is that some of them know the medical terminology great, but they don't have clue one how to put together a gramatically correct sentence. I'm also talking the basics of simple punctuation here!
I actually end up losing money when I take on subcontractors because the majority of my time is spent on the phone with them or answering questions to their stupid E-mails. It's just totally amazing.
And they wonder why a lot of work is being offshored. If I were a doctor and got sloppy work back, why would I want to pay a U.S. MT 14 cents a line for sloppy work when I could get sloppy work back guaranteed from the Indians for 7 to 11 cents a line?
I don't mean to sound harsh, but these are the cold, hard facts!
wow, that's harsh...this is some truth (sm)
to this, but I personally love my job with MW. Yes, sometimes there are problems but that is true everywhere. I have a very supportive team leader and enjoy sitting down to work every day, and make a very good living doing it.
thanks but no thanks *S*; your *real truth*....nm
I like her. She tells the TRUTH, IMO. nm

Truth always hurts...
Hostility saying did not think a nurse should have some kind of background in transcribing??? That would be like my not having to have study in order to be a nurse. Stand by what I said in the first place, and you are the one talking about being "seasoned" as if 18 years made an authority. I never brought up my life, career or anything else in my post. Like I said, not anything ugly in my first post and stand behind what I said, a nurse still needs more than an RN license to transcribe. Oh, hey my husband drives an 18 wheeler. I also drive- does that mean I can drive one of those??? Double duh....
and the truth is, I don't WANT to be a coder.
I pulled up the course curriculum yesterday from our local jr college, and, though most of it is taken care of with my previous degree, I don't really want to be a coder. Who knows, maybe the next president will outlaw outsourcing and we'll all be in the "green" again. Never can tell! All we have to expect next is pigs to fly.
stretching the truth! (got cut off above).

Was just posting the truth
I had no idea I had to curtail my post to make sure no one got offended. In no way did I assume that fast typing was all it took - it was my typing ability that caused a co worker to suggest it was all. My goodness!
Yes, I thought being an MT was an easy way to make money. I thought it was a simple job and anyone could do it. But I still wanted to get experienced MTs suggestions, not make a broad insult to y'all in any way. Its hard to find out what being an MT even is just by going online - I couldn't make heads or tails of what exactly you people do and that's all I was after!!
LOL, aint that the truth!
nm
What was sick about the truth?
Just plainly stated. The house was swarming with police. EMTs so that is the truth. He died and I closed down the job for that day. This is true.
seriously, you must admit there is some truth to what is said; there are many like that.
nnnnnnm
Please, you owe them the absolute truth as you know it. SM
Not to discourage them, but it is of the highest importance that every person preparing to enter the workforce understands that for any job not tied to a specific geographic location in some way he is potentially in competition with the entire planet's workforce. English as the universal language is definitely a two-edged sword. But it also means they come ready equipped with an extremely valuable tool-fluent English.
To do anything else would be profoundly immoral and potentially do someone great harm.
The AHDI website has a section on questions frequently asked about MT that would probably be a great help in putting together your talk. It also has a report on Scenarios and Solutions for the Future" of MT. Different scenarios because they just don't know where we'll be.
You could include in your talk suggestions for related work they can also train for that is more geographically tied, such as tumor registrar and ?, and ? Nursing and hospital tech fields, of course, but when you come up with some more of those that still can be mostly done at home, you can come back and tell the rest of us about them.
Ah, the truth is in the details. :)
You didn't say another program was being used to cap for you. My Instant Text automatically caps for me where Word will not.
Knowing the truth....
Anyone who has been in this industry doing MT for more than 30 years and has survived knows the score. We feel grateful for our skills and we are humbled by the years of dedication it took to crack any nut thrown our way. People in the industry know who we are and most of us just prefer to do straight transcription because we know what we are doing and feel comfortable.
Also, we love the challenge of being able to decipher a really difficult report and make that doctor happy especially the ESL.
From my point of view, there are just to many MTs who go to QA hoping to learn something but the learning is in the transcribing. Just reading the reports is not going to give you that edge. You need to develop the "ear" and a knowledge of the specialties that only true dedication brings to the forefront.
We're living in a time when people want to make easy money without really having any experience or real knowledge. They just feel if they go to that good school, they will be all set and ready to make big bucks. It's that mentality of entitlement minus the years of hard work and dedication that is ruining this country. Sadly, it seems the more you know and the harder you work, the less you make.
Call it moral degredation.
