We have MT's on here all the time that are in foreclosure and losing their homes, who can't afford to buy clothes for their kids and shop at Goodwill, who need us to take up a collection for Christmas presents!

I read all the way down the board and only saw 1
thread complaining. OH, I forgot this thread. Make that 2. I don't think that's so bad. Besides, people have to vent. Imagine if every time we got mad at our husbands or kids we just quit. Wouldn't work out too well.
If you had read this board, you might would have
thought differently. I just saw 1 person posting the other day and had stars in her eyes about the future of transcription even when others saying how it has gone down over the years. If I were younger and had just started, I think I would weigh very seriously the postings here, knowing they have experience in how this job has gone from 1 of being able to raise a family on to 1 of just chump change basically.

Read your post on the other board....
It discussed not having health insurance any more, not being an employee, having 2 IC jobs, etc. You speak of this as the CURRENT/FUTURE situation, not in the past. I know the subject of Keystrokes not hiring ICs has been addressed many times on this board.
I don't mean to make you defensive, but you posted pretty much 2 separate messages about a single job and they give conflicting information. I'm just confused.
Look down this board and read the thread titled
"How to make money MT'ing" by Dano. It is excellent advice. It should help you a lot. Also on about page 4 or so there are a couple of threads that discuss how some of the higher producers get their production, hints and tips on expanders, macros, etc.
You can do very well at this line of work if you want to and really appy yourself!!

certain posts some months ago essentially about the same subject content as now. If Jay truly owes previous employees and current employees clearly it would behoove him to do so as it certainly doesn't look very good when his indiscretions are plastered all over MT sites.

I don't think this was a good place to look for a laugh at a student's expense, even though I suspect you weren't intending to be mean or condescending. We were all there once.
After 30 years in this business, much of it in QA and QA management, I've gone back to transcription and I am still learning things from my QA people. Humiliating at times, yes! But its all a learning process. 
Oh yeah? Go to company board and read about Heartland's layoffs.
it's really not fair to tell people to get into this business when it's obvious there's big trouble and the S--- is just starting to hit the fan...

Unless you need a microphone attached, I would suggest Dictaphone earphones. They hae excellent sound quality. Also...if you have extra noise from your speakers, plug right into your PC and a lot of that noise will disappear. That works with any headphones.

KT, is there any way you could give us a hint as to who this company is
If this company has a recruiter like this pushing and pushing to do interviews and hire people and then pulls out, I do not think any of us would want to work for that company for fear of what happened to you. I truly sympathize with what happened to you. Although I do not have kids, I too need to work just to pay bills, keep a roof over my head, etc. To work for a company like this would make me hesitant about job security.
I do hope you will consider maybe telling us who this was. I also want to say that I admire the fact that you didn't bash the company or the recruiter, unlike so many people on this board do.

After your little one gets off to school, head for the nearest Mc'D's or Burger King..lot's of nice working guys stop in for breakfast on a regular basis.
My sister actually met her new hubby by doing this and he gathers with his buddies every morning. He is an awsome guy and of course, working

Your first post was 100% doom and gloom every which way, including "raining on your parade", and "if you want to go forward"...God, sounds like she's talking about jumping into oncoming traffic! How can the word "NEVER" in caps be interpreted in any positive way? You took about 8 paragraphs to cover every aspect and completely dash this poor woman's dream. I'm not blind, I'm not talking about day care at all, I'm talking about the total negativity of your original post! You know exactly what I'm talking about, cause you added some sugar to your second version! And that's much nicer than the first!
All I can say is rest when you need it and - sm
listen to the docs. I, personally, have not had cancer but after dealing with my 5-y/o Wilm's tumor (kidney cancer) this year, our family has been but through the wringer. Jen handled her chemo great, lost her hair with 2 treatments to go (had 14). Kids are great about that though, got a little self-conscious but after a few minutes in a new place would forget she had no hair. I got her a couple hats for the sun and for her to feel better too. Painted her head one day, had fun with it. She had good days and bad of course, but for the most part handled it all very well. Just had a clean ultrasound and chest x-ray today, yeah! She looks like a little boy now, with dirty blond hair (was an incredible shade of red before), with now the roots growing a new color, a strawberry blond/red, really pretty. So if you do lose your hair it may grow in different (probably will). Jen's was very fine before, now it is a lot thicker, still straight as a board though as it was. You may lose some weight too, but after chemo is done you will regain it once you get your appetite back. Best wishes to you and feel free to email !

She's doing an excellent job and just wishes the docs would WAKE UP and start doing the same. Docs ARE incompetent for the most part, and that's sad. But you go ahead and think they walk on water, honey. When they amputate the wrong leg during your operation, you'll be the first to scream, LAWSUIT!!!!
How is this different from the rest of us?
I haven't said this before, but I've been thinking it. So the suits only think about the bottom line and the doctors don't care whose jobs go overseas as long as it isn't theirs. How are we any different? How many of us cared that textile/garment workers jobs went overseas? Until the lead paint scare, how many of us cared that toy making jobs were going overseas? Do we stop buying the latest electronic gadgets, not to mention computers, because they are virtually all made overseas now? For the most part, we didn't worry about those jobs, so why would anyone care about ours? Wal-Mart, K-Mart and the other low-price retailers push their suppliers for ever cheaper products, and plants overseas are the best suppliers. Have we stopped shopping there, or is price all we care about, too?

I also would like to know if anyone has an idea for a foot rest. I also have swollen feet at the end of the day. I looked at my daughter-in-law's foot stool for breast feeding and thought it might work since it is slanted. Off to Google this and see what I can find.

I found mine by Googling foot rest. You'll find lots of them, all shapes, sizes, and prices. I think mine came from Fellows, but cannot remember now. I love it. No more backache. Good luck with your search.
