Your child JOINED military. Did she do so with
Sounds like apple doesnt fall far from tree if she made life changing move with no forethought. You say this is 2nd tour. To me that that means she and her hubby signed up for second time so its not like this was sprung on all of you. You need to learn to look ahead and plan better. And I dont mean plan on better ways to rob your fellow citizens.
Go to NBC10.com - Our local news has "Wednesday's Child" which is a child for adoption.
Every Wednesday they introduce a child who needs a home and a family. There should be some information there as these kids are up for adoption.

Hope that helps!
WRONG! A child that has a fear of discipline = a well behaved child.
I have a beautiful, intelligent 11 year old daughter that hasn't had a spanking in 6 or 7 years and probably only 3 her entire life. She is very well behaved and I get compliments on her behavior constantly. When she does get out of line all I have to say is, "Shall I call your father?" Call it what you want, it works. She respects and obeys me and her father. Why??? For fear of the facing the consequences of misbehaving. Having a total lack of fear or respect for authority is exactly what's wrong with Generation X/kids today. I turned out just fine as did my siblings. Why?? Because my parents took "time out" to bust our a$$es whenever we got out of line.
Is that clear enough for you???
and joined?
Do they keep your info confidential - don't want to be fired, but I do want to join.
I saw this too, I joined.
Certainly can't hurt.
I joined when they first started. sm
I disagree totally with old MT, so sorry. I trust we are allowed our opinions. Other than being a really expensive publishing house (Stedmans is way better AND cheaper) they haven't fulfilled any promises, espeically the most important ones. Now reading this, they are actually in India meeting with the Indians and forming a "network." Whose interest do they have at heart? Sorry, I quit them and I am glad I quit them. Let them make their money stabbing us in the back. I think clubs like AAMT are oftentimes just a social event with an empty payback. And that's how I see AAMT. There are too many bad CMTs out there to make the CMT worth anything. I guess this is the way the steel industry and automotive industry went, head in the sand and daily platitudes from the higher ups tht all was well. I guess it is in AAMT-land, where THEIR pockets are lined, just like corporate America. It never hurts to live in the real world. Phooey on AAMT.
re-joined AAMT
I re-joined AAMT. Especially appreciate the journal articles and quizzes about diseases, procedures and medications I would not otherwise know. I feel more competent because of this and probably save time looking things up.
I joined for free as they do not take
any payment info, so therefore they cannot automatically bill you. Just wanted to check it out.
Don't do it! I wasted my money when I joined, and
I will NOT be renewing. They support offshoring. They're trying to get an RMT exam up and running now, hoping that it will become essential to employment (right now it's elective). They support an apprenticeship program on which they helped get the ball rolling with AHIMA. This program hasn't come out yet but will if they can iron out the wrinkles. This program calls for TWO YEARS of apprenticeship making practically minimum wage to start and not ending much higher than that. It will only accept graduates from AAMT-approved schools, and it's going to drive the MT pay rate down even further! As if we need that!
And I could tell you more stories!
Joined up with the old folks group and
starting doing ceramics and now they have a travel group, wanting to plan a trip to Italy. That is right down my alley! Another trip before too long is Macinaw (spelling?) Island in Michigan. Now with my other 2 vacations this year, this senior citizen group should just be the therapy I need.
not a shock - they were bought or joined up with Healthscribe
who has a huge office in India and does not make it a secret that they outsource. Healthscribe also got into a bit of trouble a couple of years ago for "altering" lines on US transcriptionists;
When I joined a couple of years ago it was something like $30 a month and you could either pay
monthly or have it deducted automatically from your account. If you elected to pay monthly, I think the membership went up about $5 to $10.
There wasn't any high pressure sales. I basically called them and asked could I come in a check it out and they give you like a week trial or two weeks (my memory is sooo bad!). Then if you decide to become a member, you fill out the paperwork and they weigh and measure you (fun, fun) and file it all away. And then periodically they will ask if you want to be weighed and measured to see how much you've lost.
They are really encouraging there (at mine anyway). They gave way prizes for different things like if you came a certain amount of times in like three months, you got a T-shirt. And then there are prizes for when you lose 10, 20, etc pounds. And at mine everyone had a little paper doll that started out at 0 and when you lost weight you moved your little paper doll around on the wall. It was kind of fun.
Well, I've just convinced myself!
I wish I had read this board before I joined Softscript
Not only were they liars and cheats but they are incredibly Dumb. The VP of Human Resources has to be one of the most incompetent people on the face of the earth. No, don't quit your good job for THIS MESS. Run away! Run away!
I'd be interested in joining that lawsuit...
I joined in the 70's because their goal then was professional wages.
it's 2008. they must not be very good at what they do. However, they do self promote extremely well.
I joined forces with the 3 original MTs in their pursuit to bring MQ to court.
Get over yourself.
military
my grandfather and father were marines and my x-husband was a marine, all front line, first in last out. my father did 2 active tours in vietnam-by choice. not until recently would he talk about it, but when he does, the pride that is in his eyes is unreal. my x and i had just announced our engagement a few days before 9-11. he wanted to reinlist and i had the same fear that you do, that it wasn't for us. that's a decision that only you guys can make. as good as it can be, it can also be as horrible as can be. just like everything else in life it's how you approach and deal with it that will make you or break you. no matter what branch, you will always be able to find a friendly face anywhere in the world because there will always be someone else living the same experience. best of luck in your family's decision.
my 18 YO is considering the military...
and I don't know if I want him to do that or not. Has it been a positive experience so far for your son? If you don't mind, what branch did he join? I know you can't wait to hug your baby boy again!
Military
It sounds as if he needs to grow up and accept responsibility for his actions. What did he expect the military to be like??? You just dress up and march in parades? Get real!
Military
Actually, I'm glad he's out-- I wouldn't want a wimp like him "protecting" me or this country anyway. I hope he enjoys his NEW time away from his family being in the brig. Like, duh----.
military deserter?
Don't you have him confused with his predecessor?
Anyone's husband in the military?
My husband is thinking of joining the military. He has always wanted to since we met about 7 years ago and we just went to a wedding where his couisin was there, who just got back from Iraq. His cousin is going back voluntarily. He is a higher rank (I have on idea what the difference is). Anyway, I am really worried about this. It is just something that he is thinking about right now, but we have 2 kids and it scares me to death!!! Any advice or anyone with experience with this?
Military time
I've done it both ways depending on what the client/doctor wants.
Our Military People
I want to share something my family does in case you're interested in doing something similar. We live near a military base and every year I call and get the names of a couple of soldiers to invite into our home for Christmas Day. These are soldiers who are very far from home and not scheduled for leave on Christmas. We been doing this for several years and it has been such a wonderful experience. We have made friends that we'll keep in contact with until ...
We pick up these soldiers up at a set time and set gate on the base. They have dinner with us and we always give them some small gifts -- phone cards, note cards, stamps, restaurant gift certificates, etc. The guys love it when they get a box of all occasion cards with stamps, as most of them say they aren't very good at picking out cards to send back home. We end the evening by driving around showing them Christmas lights, etc.
Yes, it is generally a bit awkward for them at first, but they always end up getting "comfortable" and enjoying themselves.
You usually need to call early - they do have to make sure you aren't a serial killer or terrorist. Often times, they have an office set up where you fill out a form for "adopting a soldier" and that simplifies matters a great deal.
Merry Christmas to all of you!
Don't know about transcribing for the Military, but...sm
your transcription skills will most certainly qualify you for an Administrative Assistant/secretary position for the Military. I started as a GS-4 in Aug 04. Got promoted to a GS-5 in Aug 05 and now am lead secretary in an office of 50 people. I get an automatic promotion to a GS-6 in Aug 06. On top of the all the benefits, they are going to pay for my degree too. I know a lot of people complain about Federal jobs, but mine has been a blessing all the way around.
Military wife
Yep, my husband has been in the AF for 29 years. He has been deployed since middle of March and will be coming home at end of May. I've been MT for 3 years, but all at one place. Wish I would've done it sooner, when we were moving around. He's retiring this summer.
Military Overseas
When companies state no overseas applications or solicitations does that include Overseas Military?? I have DSL and we have a US Post office here on base. Curious cause i'm about to start school and want to know it wont be wasted while we are stationed overseas.
Thanks!
I appreciate the military. I DONT appreciate

Transcribing for military hospital
I have a question, does anybody know of how to get into transcribing for say a military hospital so you could get government benefits, or has anybody does this before? Would love to have the safety net in retirement of some good government benefits.
Just wondering if there are other military wives out there who are also MTs? NM

a lotta of the older docs were in the military...sm
and these were memorized by rote...kinda like the ABCs. Extraordinarily bright men and women who'd served their country and then went on to be docs.
It's always nice to hear them say "Thank you for transcribing this dictation", Cat
I believe private MTSOs have to bid on contracts to do military work.

care package for military in iraq ideas?? sm
i have a very close friend who is in iraq and i went to send something but no idea what? he ideas or someone know anyone in military and what they like to receive or need? FYI, they are on a ship. TYIA!
Sounds like a wartime military POW personnel training manual..nm
I live in a small rural area and they housed some evacuees at a nearby military base
crime went UP in our little community that previously HAD a ~very low~ crime rate. It is a FACT. I'm not saying all NO residents are like that, but MANY seem to be.
My mom was raised in conditions like this poster describes. Mom's parents died when she was 7 (father) and 9 (mother). Her teenage sister (newlywed) raised her and 4 other siblings. They had next to nothing. Not ONE of them turned to a life of crime. Not ONE even graduated high school but they still made good lives for themselves. Life was rough for them, but they didn't blame it on everyone else and cry around about what the president should be doing for them. It is all about RESPONSIBILITY and taking what life throws your way. IMO.
Are you the one with the ill child ???
If so, please realize that the stress of an ill child can be devastating to a marriage. Unfortunately many men deal with this kind of thing by drinking. My best friend in the world went through 4 yrs of fighting leukemia with her little boy who became ill at 12 months. Her husband turned into a total and complete jerk, drinking, and eventually becoming abusive to her. A major medical illness can pull people apart. On the other hand, it sometimes draws people together, but less often. I had our third child extremely premature and she was critically ill for 2 months and then spent another 2 months in the NICU, 4 months total. It was a big stress, but fortunately we weathered it okay. Some people are not so lucky. My first thought is that all this nonsense with your father, and his mother, and wills and money, and all the rest is just something to fixate on. It may very well NOT be the source of the current friction in your home and your marriage. Maybe some counseling if you can get him to go, would be in order. My best to you and your family.
It's no wonder--with a child like you...
your mother probably ripped her own uterus out, and that will be the one and only post to this person. It was just too easy!!
Why would you do that to your child?

New car for my child
My 17-year-old did get a new car for his birthday for several reasons: He has never given us a bad time about anything, he has a 4.2 GPA, and did a 2,210 on his SAT (the new SAT),is headed to the college he had his eye on for several years now (asked for and got early acceptance letter) and he has been working part-time since he was 14 years old.
We decided to get him a new car because he will need it for school (it's a few states away and we want him to have something dependable) and because he has really gone the distance and worked very hard to get to this point.
I'm really not bragging here, these are just our reasons. He didn't get a fancy racing car, just something that is nice and dependable and made us comfortable.
Anyone whose child has gotten the flu?
Symptoms of coughing, fever, chills and sweats, no appetite, hurts all over, sleepy. Grandson has been this way for 5 days, 2 visits to the doc, lost 2 lbs in 5 days (which for a little guy is a lot). X-rays show no pneumonia. What can we do? Any ideas gratefully appreciated.
Think about the child
and the fact that it is not wanted. Funny I did not hear one mention about adoption in this post. Sometimes abortion is the best choice (IMO).
Let's do think about the child
Adoption has been mentioned in some of the posts, but you may have missed it. A person who kills somebody else may be thinking of many things, but the actual well-being of the person he or she is killing is certainly not one of them. Everyone is "not wanted" by somebody else at some point in their lives.
The best defense for a child...
As heart tugging as they are, accurate transcription is sooooo important for any person, there is a lot at stake and your best effort at triple checking what you have typed is our little helping hand at helping those seeking help. Flag ANYTHING you doubt, if you get lost in the "he said, she said," someone else will too and calling attention to those items WILL HELP to ensure the reports are easily read and understood. Keep up the good work, the job we do IS IMPORTANT! Any complaint or abuse is paperwork, paperwork, paperwork, just be sure those you do are the cream to help those who in need.
different child, different methods
I am the mother of two 20-year-olds, 1 boy and 1 girl. I can tell you from first hand experience the type of discipline depends on the child. My daughter, she might have had 2 spankings in her whole life. She could be talked to and punished in other ways that worked. My son, on the other hand, about every 6 months he would be due for a spanking and then he was fine again. I have learned from experience, never say that you will never do something or that you will not do something. If one thing does not work, believe you will go to spanking if it means saving your child.
Any child is more adult than you are.
I grow weary of your tiresome chatter.....
does anyone have a child that models? sm
or in commercials, print ads, etc? My 6 YOS is just adorable (of course!) and he has a very bright, outgoing personality. I am told all the time that he should be in "pictures", but don't know how to go about getting started. I don't have money to invest in all the pictures and things. I know this is probably a long shot, but any info would be greatly appreciated.
Don't think I'd put my child in that business (sm)
It's something they can pursue when they are old enough.
Also, don't spend a lot on pictures, if you have to pay for just reprinting of pictures and they pay for the photographer that is probably reasonable.
CHILD SUPPORT??
Can ANYONE give me some legitimate service who goes after "deadbeat dads"???? I'm at the end of my emotional rope, and my state (Oklahoma) has not helped much in nailing down this butthead ('cuse my French)....I've talked to a few "services" which IF they get anything from him, they will probably take 60-70% of it!!! Has anyone had any luck anywhere?? Why do these guys (and I'm sure there are gals out there too!) get away with not supporting their kids???
Sorry to vent ...I type for a living (like you) and beating this keyboard sometimes helps me feel better! Thanks for listening (reading ??)....
child support
Believe me, deadbeat moms are very prevalent, moreso than people think. I know from personal experience that these moms rather spend their money on themselves than send even the tiny amount they are required by law to send to their child, all the time professing how much they love their children.
