money for words typed by even the finest typists if they can receive the same product back with computer + Editor for significantly less? It's the report that counts, and hand-typed isn't quite the same as hand-embroidered. Precious few people can afford to pay for that, and eventually virtually no one will pay more for hand typing; maybe a few high-end specialists, but certainly not hospitals struggling to meet the needs of their communities.
BTW, I AM specifically a slow awkward typist; I'm sure I couldn't begin to compete with you typing. I'm also pretty darned sure my final product these days is every bit as good. My per-hour income editing is more, assuming you meant $1700-1800 every two weeks. I strongly suspect you'd have no trouble leaving me in the dust there, too, if you were editing for my company--once you commmitted to getting as fast at editing as you are at transcription.
I'm smiling because I just remembered: When I was a teenager I thought whether I continued my education or not I'd never have to settle for a low-level job because I was a killer speller. It really was a valuable in-demand skill--then came spellcheck.
Best wishes.
