What are your kids' degrees in?
x
heck yeah

I've only been at it a few mos but I am getting so many aches and pains from sitting. I am still in the process of adjusting my workstation so that my shoulder stops hurting.  I thought working again would satisfy me, but what I really need is people too!

Love the flexibility and dress code - hate being alone and doing the same thing all day.  Sure the dictation varies, but my body stays in this chair and my fingers stay moving.

I would not mind doing MT as one of many duties, but 38 hrs per week of it is making my rear end wide and flat.....

HECK YEAH!!! FINALLy someone brings this up
Me and my mother in law both work for MQ and we were just talking about that. I am sure when people find out their info including addresses and ss# are going over seas then maybe they will want it stopped!!!
Heck, yeah! Good pay for 1-1/2 years experience.

Heck, having kids deletes brain cells, year after hear!

Heck yeah. Need leaders to come forward, moderators, a sense of patriotism (we pay taxes).

Coimbatore ready to spin a different storey

The Manchester of South India, Coimbatore, is still brimming with a lot of positive energy as far as the real estate scenario is concerned. The
city, with a population of 1.8 million people, has a few pan-India players in the real estate market but the 35-40 odd local developers are confident of staying in business despite the economic slowdown.

Though many are in the wait-and-watch mode, buyers are looking at this growing city as the place for long-term investment, especially on the residential front. Industry experts say majority of the buyers are from nearby cities like Chennai and Bangalore and non-resident Coimbatoreans and NRIs, who want to settle here post retirement.

The latest Jones Lang LaSalle India30 Real Estate Opportunities in Tier III cities identifies Coimbatore as one of the top 10 growing consumer markets. “Though Coimbatore stands low on current office market activity, the growing engineering and IT potential is sure to throw up opportunities for the real estate market in the next few years,” said experts.

“The prices are marginally down by 5-10% in Coimbatore but the situation will not worsen any further. Land prices are going up and construction costs have increased. We don’t see any downslide on price aspect,” said Omkar Mohan Sankar, a real estate developer in the city.

According to him, the city has perfect attributes such as excellent locale, ideally set in the footsteps of Nilgiris, pleasant climate and sweet Siruvani water. Further, it is an education and healthcare hub and the two industries are recession proof.

Though textile industry is going through tough times, work options are increasing as nearby districts such as Tirupur, Erode and Karur are fast catching the attention of world markets with their fashion products.

Also, with the entry of big players such as L&T and Suzlon in the engineering industry, more investment is expected in real estate market. “Once the companies look at increasing their work force, the requirement for housing would increase and the residential value in the city will go up,” said market sources.

State-owned Electronics Corporation of India’s Tidel Park in IT-SEZ is expected to be ready by January and is likely to provide employment to nearly 12,000 people, which means more residential space will be needed. The Wipro development centre inside the IT-SEZ is also nearing completion and more IT companies like TCS and HCL have plans here.

The city already has the presence of global engineering and IT giants like Robert Bosch and Cognizant and big IT & ITES players like Perot Systems and Spheris. “The city is looking at employing 20,000 more and even if 20% opt for new homes, there would be a demand for 4,000-5000 houses soon,” said Mr Rajesh B Lund, VP, Confederation of Real Estate Developer’s Associations of India.

Yeah, you're right. Who cares who licenses your software? Heck, I use all pirated software anyw

why pay for anything, right?

Except that is AGAINST THE LAW!!!

Blasted cold out today. It was 104 degrees last week, but it's 40 degrees today with rain.
However, I do like cozy days like today when I don't have to go anywhere.  I'm done working, the house is clean, there's chili on the stove for dinner already, and I'm just putzing around.  I think I'll go bake some jalapeno cheese bread to go with the chili.
Do little kids like caramel? My big kids won't even eat it! We make the basic Baker's chocolat
s
degrees
They don't seem to be all that worth it.  I was going to school for a psych degree but got discouraged.  Started buying the Sunday paper just to see jobs out there in my chosen field, social work/clinical psychology.  The average pay is 14-15 an hour, and that is for graduate/master's degree. So they want all those dedicated years of studying, money for college, to get out and earn less than what i'm making as an MT, with two years of college significantly less.
With those two degrees, why don't
you build career in a more solid profession? MT isn't very stable, IMHO, and making money at it can be a crap shot. Some of us have gotten lucky but most haven't. I don't mean to sound negative, but if I had a degree in something, I'd be outta this profession! (and I'm one of the fortunate transcriptionists with my own clients and am making decent money)
zero degrees
Geez! Where do you live if you don't mind my asking? That is just too cold for me!! I would not go out at all. It was in the 20s here last night (Mississippi) and I thought THAT was cold.
Not me! It's 103 degrees out there!

I never said you shouldn't have kids! Feeling guilty? I asked WHY you had kids.
You clearly stated in your post that you ship the kids off to camp all day, and they're TIRED AT NIGHT!!  You know exactly what you said.  You said it as a PERK - AS IN GREAT! They're gone all day, it wears them out, and so I shovel dinner in their mouths and off to bed!  You can try to paint it any way you want, but YOU SAID IT.  Again, I only hope your kids never hear you speak that way or write that way. Shame on you.  Why have kids at all?  Just another parent who has them, gets rid of them for day AND night, BRAGS ABOUT IT, and then calls ME wicked!  Give me a break!  Camp is fine - its WHAT YOU SAID AND YOU KNOW IT.  Your own words showed your heart. Period.
70 degrees day and night

going digital in degrees
Hello,

A hand-held digital recorder (I have a Uher DH-10 but there are many, seems to be a lot of DSS files out there - Olympus) and an image mate if the computer can't accommodate a variety of media or flash cards.

How to move files:
FTP site - commercialy maintained and/or your own with a static IP address through a web hoster - Apache servers are the best

FTP software is out there for free - Core FTP using SSL

CryptoHeaven
HyperSend
DropChute (expensive) Lite (free)
X-Drive
I-Drive (I had a run in with them, not too happy)
Hyperterminal (part of windows)

PC Anywhere and a static IP address that would allow computer-to-computer file transfers pick up dictation, drop off documents

MEP or PGP encryption and just move those babies through the e-mail - there are a bajillion encryption software PGP is free and MEP is commercial for sale. These make self-extracting files all you have to do is use the right password and you're good. There are others, though.

I guess it depends on what the office personnel are willing to do in the way of faciltating the transfers or loading the dictation onto a computer or a FTP site or e-mailing to you.

Having DSL or cable (I have DSL - its never down, ever) is a must because wav files can be large sometimes if the recorder doesn't utilize some sort of compression

and PC Anywhere on a phone line is too slow to download digital files from wav or DSS the phone line can only go about 23 which makes a 56K modem overkill

I have used PCAnywhere without a static IP, you do a start/run ipconfig command (that was for win 98 I can never remember the one for XP)and it gives you the address of that log on - you just put that in the remote PCanywhere set up to dial in - this is kind of a garage sale version but it works

There are also TASPs out there to buy for a penny a line or 10 cents a minute with 800# all set up for you. Sometimes they charge to add doctors a little set up fee

:) Has this helped at all?

If you do go PCAnywhere and set up a host computer at the doc's office or load PCAnywhere on one of theirs, it doesn't HAVE to be an XP comp. And if it does have XP for an OS you MUST use version 10.5 or higher - only one compatible with XP

I know for a fact that version 9 does horrible things to XP ;) Not compatible is not compatible, I thought I could download a patch or an upgrade. ha ha.

winzip is a free software to make many files one nice little package for to be encrypted and then attached to an e-mail

How come you 2 with journalism degrees aren't

We paid for 2 bachelor's degrees and
that was it. If they want to further their education their employers each pay to do that (government jobs).

I say send your son to a school where he lives in a dorm and then in an apartment. It's time.

You're both adults getting on each other's noives at this point.

You'll be surprised how much they grow up after they move out and live away at school.
whoops - I meant 98 Degrees...LOL..NM

(giggling). do you even KNOW how many masters degrees are
There are people with huge degrees, disillusiond with their field, their pay, the politics. And they are sitting on their duffs doing medical transcription because the pay is better, the work conditions are better, the people are better. There were some posts in the past month about this very subject. There are a LOT of overeducated people out there, who choose to transcribe.
addendum: chilly = 10 degrees at 7 a.m.

Kids are demanding and so is MT work. My question is how CAN you do this with kids, rather than how
When you have two young kids, 11 months apart, (like I stated they are now 4 and 5) and have been doing this since they were born with no help from their father and no family around, YES, the kids get neglected. Part time might work but living on one salary, part time, is not an option. How can you possible tell me that anyone with two young kids can stay at home and work a full-time, 8-hour shift, and still give their kids the attention they NEED. I dont care how good you are at multitasking and how great your organizational skills are. It is a very difficult thing to do. And I am offended by your post making it sound as if it is easy to do.

I do agree that it can depend on how well your kids behave and how well they are able to play on their own. But my kids were not able to play well on their own. They needed constant attention.

So please take the time to realize that there are people out there in different situations than your own.

Reading our posts should help you to understand that everyone has a different situation. I believe everyone should have the right to shares their experiences as it might benefit the original poster in her questions and concerns.

I dont think anyone should be bashed for taking the time out to write about their experiences. I dont usually come on here to argue but you really ticked me off with your post. And try reading the post correctly. I said next time around I would have put them in day care. What I DID do with them was set them up to an activity like art or put on a movie for them. Geez.
Stayed "because of the kids?" I say "leave because of the kids"
You're in no position to buy right now. Keep saving, keep paying down your bills, and for heaven's sake get rid of that dead weight of a BF you're living with. You can do better.
So, should I return the $75 (x2 kids) in music cards I got the kids for x-mas...sm
My son has been telling me about free music sites and I was very leary.  How do they skirt the law Radguy?
I don't have kids, but my Mom was from the "old school," and still had everyone, kids inclu

call her by her first name.  The little neighbor girl next door from the time she could speak called her Aggie (my mom's first name), and they were great buddies until the day my mom pased away.

I don't think there really is much in a name, but more in the respect you are given and the way you are treated.   Personally, I kind of cringe inside when someone calls me Ms. Anything or God forbid, "maam" (makes me feel like Methuselah!) ... I'm always just plain Merrie.  :-)

But, as someone pointed out, to each his own.  If you want to be addressed a certain way, you have that right, and people should respect that.  I'm glad you corrected the child ... hope it "sticks."

There are a lot of mentally ill people out there. No joke. Just different degrees.
Seriously, did you ever talk to someone who you just think might be one step out of reality but not enough to be considered full-blown crazy.  Lots of my friends fall into that category.  Sorry but its true.
Pacific Time, still sunny and 72 degrees :-) (nm)

40 degrees in August? Where do you live? Even Alaska is warm now.

Lots of people think that degrees open many doors.
Degrees close many doors, too. People won't hire you at all because you're overqualified or they think you'll jump ship the moment you find something better. A large percentage of this country is underemployed, and that number gets greater every day. Wages have plummeted because the young 20-somethings will work for peanuts. Why should businesses pay more for older workers when they can get a fresh college grad for next to nothing?
I woke up to -18 degrees this morning - it hurt to breathe outside! nm

Cold, 28 degrees, a little snow on the ground, overcast.
Boring winter day. Not enough snow to do anything fun, just enough to make us all miserable.
Would you walk three blocks in 110 degrees at 3 p.m. in Arizona - no trees, no breeze, no wet SM

except for sweat.  It's brutal.

Now is 110 and supposed to get hotter.  Yesterday was 113 in the shade

Only 90 degrees? It was 112 in Phoenix yesterday, supposed to be hotter today.

It is about 10 degrees, snowed all day. Snug in front of the fireplace tonight. sm
I used to live in a large city and I HATED WINTER and the cold. Now I live in a very small town, can walk to everywhere and I love the winter, snug and nice in the house and working...I love it.
Please do not simply give up, kids or no kids!
Talk with a professional. This can be worked through if he really puts forth the effort and you participate. The right counseling can truly make your marriage even better than it was before, if BOTH parties are willing to be honest. Give it a try. Nothing to lose at this point and everything to gain!
I nearly suffered heat stroke taking a bike ride in 105 degrees.

Oh, heck, YES!!!

It's always feast or famine around here.  One week, I'll be sitting on my thumbs stressing about bills and not enough work.  The next week, everyone dumps so much on me that I'm working double shifts.  Why can't it be regular instead of sporadic?  Then again, I do rather like those unexpected days off and not being chained to a desk during certain hours like with the nationals.  I work when I want to as long as I meet TAT.

Do you really want to work 10-12 hours a day?  And you know that some days it will be 6 hours and some days 18 hours because it is truly feast or famine.  I took on a third IC job recently because things were so slow for weeks with my other two.  The other two must have heard me accept the third job because I got dumped on.  I wound up wigging out and quitting the third position.  I feel really bad about leaving her in the lurch, but holy cow! A human body can only take so much of this.

I don't see the little sleep deprived icon with cramped up fingers and pedal foot.  Owie.  I'm just not going to gripe about not getting much sleep or time off.  Work is good.  Being unemployed is bad.

Do the local docs pay more than the national?  And their workload is a lot easier, too.  You get the same dictators every day saying the same things over and over again so you can use your word expander to the max.  Make a list of pros and cons and see which is better.

How the heck did you get that?
Interpretation of my post: I like ESLs not for any other reason other than I LIKE ESLs. Whatever impact that has on those who can't or won't do them is not MY problem.

Oh so thankful to have a job? Sounds to me like you are the one who should be thankful to have a job considering you have a hang-up about doing a majority of what our job description is.
