Enclosed are the steps involved, my point of view only. Very long post. sm
    1. Make sure you have the qualifications. If you have EXCELLENT spelling and grammer skills, good typing skills, complete attention to the smallest details, and willingness to work HARD and learn constantly, you may have what it takes.

    2. Realize that you will not learn this career in 1-2 years. That is a good beginning, but then you will have an "apprenticeship" period. This runs anywhere from 1-3 years, depending on the job you get, the training available there, and your ability to branch out and absorb a constantly changing field.

    3. Do your homework on the training schools. Some schools offer a program that will actually help you get a job when finished; others have a reputation that will allow you to hire with some companies as a "newbie." Don't waste money on a school that gives you a certificate and sends you out on your own. You may find it difficult to get a job without experience, and can't get experience without a job. I am not recommending a school. DO A LOT OF RESEARCH. Every school has "lucky" graduates, so get a consensus from MANY graduates.

    4. If you expect to make a fortune, look elsewhere. You will find "exceptions" that make anywhere from $50 to $100 thousand a year. Most of us with a lot of experience make anywhere from $30 - $50, depending on your speed and stamina. Without stamina, you'll burn out or develop physical problems in a couple of years.

    5. VR will never replace transcription. However, it takes a lot of knowledge to "proof" VR reports, and as the machines get smarter, we also must have more experience to catch their errors. I do not foresee us being replaced by machines. It is possible, though, that the wages will not go up because of this, and most MTs will stay on a plateau. Not easy, when cost of living keeps going up, but right now it is a reality, so consider it.

This is my view of the MT field, and its future. I have 18 years experience and have worked on the web for 9, since being outsourced from a hospital. It's a rough field, but not impossible, and I'm happy with it. I only have 10 years to go, though. I'm not sure I would start it now, if I were younger. You have to have a lot of determination. Good luck to you.
Just because this is YOUR point of view does not mean you
need to resort to flaming and name calling. Everyone is allowed their OWN opinion and not everyone needs to think exactly the same. If I were not an MT and I worked at Wal-Mart (which I am sure you shop there) and some of the items came from different countries...I would then again, in your eyes, be an awful person. That is just silly. Please grow up.
    my point of view

Not trying to start a fight, just wanted you to look at it from their point of view.

My husband was a branch manager for a huge company, working 12to 13 hour days.  I kept my 2 kids at home (5 and 2) AND worked AND cleaned AND cooked AND taxied AND etc..   The list goes on.  He would come home, lay on the couch and say " I just need a few minutes to relax"   Relax??  I didn't know what the hell that was.

Well, he quit his job 2 months ago.  I know work a full 8-hour day, 5-yo in Kindergarten and he stays home with the 2 year old, cooks, cleans, taxies, etc.

Now when I am done with work, I want to lay on the couch and say, "I just need a few minutes to relax"    I finally understand, but on the other hand, he FINALLY understands what I was going through.  The best thing to do is communication.  If he wants to see you more, take that as a compliment and if you can, rearrange your schedule so that you CAN see him more.  I get started at 5 a.m., get 5yo ready at 7:30 (don't even want to know what she would be wearing if DH dressed her), then he takes her and I am back to work until about 1.  I am DONE at 1!!!!  It has been working out like a dream and we have just as much money as we did before.

    My point of view
We all have in mind what we would LIKE to make, FEEL our skills are worth, etc. Finding our WANTS to correlate with someone else's needs (i.e., a company, MTSO, etc.) is indeed a very tall order.

The market right now just will not bear making the money some have been accustomed to in the past.

It's a fact, whether we like it or not, and it isn't going away. It's going to get tougher and more streamlined and more technologically advanced and more globalized ...

Yes, we all feel we should be better paid. It's just that there are so many other options for making this business more profitable that we don't call the shots anymore.

I see your point of view, but
perhaps she wants it that way so she can verify it because she does not have the line counting program you have?
    Another point of view...sm
I know that many people are sick of hearing language like this, seeing it written everywhere, etc but the doc wanted it included in the report for whatever reason, or he would not have said it. These records are private, as per HIPAA and no one should see them, including the patient, the doctor and the transcriptionist. It was mentioned that this was not a psyche report, but an ER report? You did not get too specific about what the context of that quote was surrounding. Perhaps this particular case will end up in court. It may not be entered as *evidence* in the court proceeding, but it may be read by attorney's, judges, etc and with the patient spouting off expletives, perhaps it would influence a court decision by showing the person's character, state of mind, etc. I have had doctors enter such expletives in a dictation where the patient had threatened to sue the doctor, for whatever reason. Those types of things are important in certain cases and incidents. Personally, with it being in quotes, I would leave it the way it was dictated. IMHO
Another QA person's point of view
We MTs make the best QA people because we can relate to what the MT is going through.  Just keep your comments professional and not degrading in any way.  Most MTs appreciate the help and feedback.  Remember how this poor QA person makes you feel with her snide comments and make sure not to repeat her mistakes.  Follow the golden rule and you should be fine.  Good luck in your new position.
ONE MORE POINT OF VIEW AND QUESTION
I would transcribe as dictated.  However, what's to keep a doctor from embellishing the facts or leaving out details that would present a different picture?  This is another argument FOR patient's obtaining copies of their reports so that they can be aware of how their behavior is being reported in written format.  I'm not sure, but are patients able to add responses/comments to their medical reports in the same way that they can add responses/comments to their credit reports?
Only from the patient's point of view - (sm)
where you go to the doctor's office, and they spend the entire visit with their eyes on their PC, not on you or whatever it is you're trying to show them. Makes me feel like I'm taking up too much of their valuable time by even being there. Might be better to just send an email with my complaint and a photo of the injury!
Thanks, proud prude, for another point of view on this....
Good idea with the dashes. I do wish I didn't
have to hear the words in my ear, either. Why do they feel they need to repeat that?

Although, putting the dashes doesn't really hide what has been said.

I WOULD be really PO'd if I got a look at my medical record and found a less-than-attractive quote in black and white. I'd prob. demand it be removed.

regarding the template discussion below: I'm wondering, from an MTSOs point of view, if(sm)
adding the templates is supposed to be helpful to the MTs?  Maybe I'm taking this the wrong way.  Although having to scroll through headings isn't helpful to me (it's faster to just type them), do other MTs find it easier to not have to type all these headings?  Are the MTSOs trying to help us out by adding in the headers?
No - you are right - NOT the point of your post BUT

you do claim to be a QA person so people assume you have some experience and so asked nicely why you put an apostrophe in MTs... which a lot of people do.... and now I am even more confused as MT's is certainly not a contraction - a contraction is like don't, doesn't, etc., so thinking maybe you don't know your stuff afterall... but thanks

The point of her post was they are
sitting around waiting on work because they need to be working....there aren't as many jobs available, especially good jobs, like there used to be. If they didn't want to work, they'd turn their computer off and forget about it when there wasn't any work.My sister is an experienced MT and looked for over 4 months until she found another MT job when her company was running out of work. Ten years ago, you oculd just about find an MT job the same day you started looking.
The point is the post was a JOKE... a little humor!!!
People do that. And complaining about those that post on the message boards -- is that not the pot calling the kettle black since you apparently enjoy this as you have posted multiple times today? Others here are free to speak/read just as you are. You are also free to hit the red X button on the corner of the screen if you are in any way unhappy about what is posted.
The above post proves my point. _sm_
NEWS FLASH: MT is a NEVER-ENDING, continual process of learning. I've been at this biz for 35 years (and took all my tests honestly, and my resume is 100% accurate, thank you very much), and I still continue to learn each and every day that I transcribe. 99% of that learning is done by my own research.

But sometimes a person's ears can deceive them, or a new doctor that is hard to understand can come along that we can't transcribe completely. Usually QA has dealt with these guys before, and are familiar with the terms that stump me. (You can't look something up if you can't even tell for sure what the word SOUNDS like.)

Yes, QA is for quality-assurance. But the only way to IMPROVE quality is to help the MTs with their ongoing learning process.

What's REALLY frustrating is when you people first tell us one thing, and then a few days later, you tell us something entirely different. You contradict yourselves to the point of being the "joke" you talk about. Too bad your manager can't get all of you on the same page at least SOME of the time!

Anyway, your post sounds exactly like the snippy little emails I get whenever I ask QA an honest question, or send something to them that I have a gut feeling is wrong, but have no samples available to double-check.

Yes, it does only take one rotten apple to spoil the whole barrel, and QA-people with your attitude should be shoved down the garbage-grinder.

    :p
I just wondered why you felt it necessary to point out that the OP had posted the same post before.
It's the equivalent of rolling your eyes and saying you've heard this before when someone is telling you a story they've told before.  The polite thing to do is listen again.  Not tell them, you've told me this before.
Mandatory for address for post office but otherwise is a style point--

I didn't apply, so that's a moot point. The point I was making is that
she's ranting here about something that doesn't even pertain to most of us. You can't come to a MT message board railing at MTs without getting a response. That's why it's not called MTSOstars. Also, it's unprofessional of a business owner to let her emotions overrule her common sense. As for the newbies, they'll learn. We were all newbies at one time or another. None of us was born perfect, not even the MTSO.
You missed my point. My point wasn't perks but prestige...nm

The point wasn't that it was copyrighted. The point the poster tried to make
    :(
That's not my point. My point is previous owner hired

    there you go again....different view
points is not the problem; it is how you or whomever respond to view points of others.  You should also re-read the original post.  Variety is the "spice of life", but insults and personal attacks are not acceptable in any format.  Smile.
    Different view
I've never heard anyone else complain about this, so maybe it's just me. I find them a bit cold and dull. There is less connection to the fact that there is a human being involved. It's like listening to a mechanic changing batteries all day.

They don't keep my attention as much as other acute care notes.
    my view
Well when we were married (many moons ago) we wrote out our thank-yous on the plane on our way to our honeymoon. This was due to persistence from my grandmother that the thank yous had to be sent out ASAP, otherwise I don't know when they would have gotten out. I have also been to weddings in the recent years and have found that thank yous don't seem to be sent out so much anymore. We usually get an email thank you for birthday gifts that are sent, which is nice too. I guess I myself don't expect one, but it is nice to receive a thank you.
    The View
I haven't been keeping up with The View as much lately. I turn it on occasionally and might see bits and pieces. In the past, I did watch it often and every time Meredith spoke she slapped the table. It was like a habit, like talking with your hands. Problem was, once I noticed it, it drove me a little nuts! I think Oprah's friend would be great.
    The View
Well, Barbara says that the show is about different women with different views. It will definitely have people talking that is for sure. Who knows if it will turn into a good thing or the end.

Anyone see Meredith's last day on The View?  Seems like they were trying to set the stage for Rosie's arrival with all that kissing.
    The View
I will admit that The View has never been one of my favorite shows.  I would tune in occasionally, but usually became too annoyed to watch it very long or each  day. However, I did watch Meredith's last day and after that, I started watching it every day.  I had heard Rosie was going to be taking her place and I couldn't imagine how loud and mouthy the show would be when that happened.  Suprisingly, I found that I started to enjoy the show.  Meredith was usually the one that annoyed me enough to flip the channel and with her gone, the others had more of a chance to speak.  I used to not care that much for Star, but since Meredith's departure, I have really enjoyed watching and listening to what she has to say.  I've even started taping the show daily, and now today she announces she is leaving.  I'd heard rumors and wasn't surprised, but I admit that I hate to see her go.  In the little time I have been watching since Meredith left, I have really enjoyed the show.  Oh well, it should be interesting in another way once Rosie comes on the scene.  I'm sure I'll tune in to watch the fireworks at least a few days, but I don't think I will care to watch it much after that.  Oh well.
if you can see * view *

click on that and then scroll to toolbars and make sure * menu * and * links * have a check mark by them.  if they dont, click on them to check them.

    hope this works for you.

    Ok, where is the view?
Sorry tried to find, am novice at this. Thanks again!
    My view to be
It sounds like they are trying to edge you out. It may be your attitude, it may be the quality of your work, it may the amount they have to pay you versus others, it may none of these things or it might all of them.

When it comes to getting another job, much of it is how you present yourself. If you are poorly spoken (i.e. they call you up, ask for you, and you say "this is her" when you should say this is SHE) or you send a cover letter with your resume and use terms like "I seen that in the newspaper" or your spelling and grammar are not perfect because you didn't proof your email...trust me, they are watching and it all adds up to what you can or cannot do for the company. Lots of us network from time to time, myself included. I talk to A LOT of MTs on a regular basis and they are always asking me who to apply with and if I have an in somewhere. Sometimes I do have "in" somewhere, but when you IM me and say, and I quote, your great...well I am not suggesting you apply anywhere I work!

It had to be said. You have to be very careful about how you present yourself and your skills. You never know who is watching.
I have a different view than you
I work with Escription and am totally surprised that it picks up even the hardest of ESLs, mumblers, cardiology, etc. I do not know that any VR would be able to make much out of static. I work part and clear over $20 an hour and probably could do more if the audio were able to be cranked up even faster.
not my point, actually. My point was the bigotry is the same.
The bigotry's always there. Not all "Mexicans" are Mexican, nor are they all illegal. My point is, though, people used to make remarks about cabbage smell about the Irish just like comments are made now about how nasty Mexicans are.

Every time somebody says something about "those people," something bigoted is coming out. That's all I'm saying.
And in view of the fact that........
women often present with atypical symptoms of a myocardial infarction, and the fact that she would have sued their PANTS OFF if she had been dismissed as having heartburn when she in fact had an MI, what is the alternative here?
    re: View girls
I cannot stand the View girls. Who do they think they are! They act so high and mighty, especially Star Jones and Meredith whatshername! Please!
    Pay per view movies
Our pay per view channels are the 100's.  Your system might be different.  Our system is supposed to be connected to a phone line always, but a lot of the time it is not.  We can usually still order movies with our remote.  My SIL only has a cell phone now, so I do not know how she does it.  We select the channel with the movie that we want.  Press info.  You can arrow up to exit if you do not want to purchase the program, or press menu to purchase the program.  Our system is older, so yours may work a little differently.  W have learned to be very careful because it is easy to order a movie that you really do not intend to.  Sometimes you can go into purchases and cancel.  With some things, you cannot.  My husband, who is very technically challenged, sat there one night and accidently surfed where he did not belong and accidently rented some kind of special adult presentation.  We immediately tried to cancel, but were unable to do so.  You can also go online to rent a movie, which is also easy, or you can do so by phone.
That's why I said hit alt+V. That will give you view. nm

    The View Article
I was just looking at an internet article. Supposedly Star was suppose to make the announcement on Thursday and Barbara feels betrayed by what she did. It goes into pretty good detail.
    Maybe in public VIEW! lol
Article I read said it was Barbara who decided to suggest firing Star because Rosie had said the only way she would join the View was if there was no Star! That and she was annoyed by her antics over the past year. So, yeah, real class that Babs! Maybe she's been hanging out with white-trash-with-money-Rosie a little too much? Maybe next they'll ask Britney Spears to join the show. LOL!
I understand your view, I really do.
I am not smug, I assure you. I have been blessed to discover God my creator. I have gotten to know him through the holy Bible. I accepted Jesus as my Savior and I have seen God's work in my life. The Bible explains everything of the human condition. We are born with a need for God, but our sin nature doesn't want to give up our sinful ways. So humans have rejected God and created replacement gods to worship, to their detriment. The way you can tell the difference between the real thing and false religions is that false religions base salvation on a person earning heaven. There is nothing we can do to earn heaven. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. He said that "No man gets to the Father except through me." So no, I'm not smug and superior at all, because I can do nothing to save myself or earn heaven. Jesus has done it all just because I confessed I am a sinner and believe on Him! That is GREAT NEWS!

I understand it sounds like brainwashing. That's because Satan is the great pretender. He makes a false copy of everything God does in order to confuse people. But you can know the difference when you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

I'm sorry I can't use human logic to explain God because his ways are not our ways, but if you ever reach a point in your life when you can't go on the way you are, then know that God, the one and only God who created you, will be there to comfort and protect you as he has me.

I don't hate people who don't believe the way I do. If I did, wouldn't I keep this to myself? You are free to choose, just like I am, but for as long as Americans are still free, I think we should be able to share, even Christian ideas.

If it what happens to me it's in the page view (sm)
In the bottom left corner of the screen are four buttons.  I usually keep mine set on the third one in which is Print Layout View.  Hope this helps.
    Go To VIEW>Normal
You have it viewing in read mode. If this does not do it, let me know.
I am wondering why you are going into view and

Maybe I am misunderstanding you, but if you want to see the type larger on your screen, you only need to go up to the box that shows 100% view and type in 115 or whatever size you want, but before you send the report, you will need to use that same dropbox to change it back to 100%.

Sorry if this does not help. Have not had that problem before in ExText.

ANYONE can view this site. How could you not know this?

Click on View and ..... sm
see if Thumbnail view is selected.  If so, just click on it again and the "print preview/thumbnail view" will disappear.
Ya, I eard her say that on The View also.
She said she would vote for the first person who would fight for this issue (stopped tax breaks for outsourcing). At first she thought Obama had said this, then the next day she corrected herself and said Hillary actually said it first back in May.

I would love to be able to believe this would actually happen.
Saw this today on The View
it truely brings tears to the eyes. Wish that when our kids left home they felt this way! LOL! These guys are so fortunate to have been able to reconnet with this wonderful cat!
Thanks, LoriMT, for your view sm
That's one thing I really LOVE about radiology is that the reports are fairly short and done with once you are done transcribing them. I remember doing pathology. Although it was very interesting, you had to wait a day or two before you could type the micros.
Thanks for your input on this.
    It's would easier to view

some of this disorganized dictation as a delightful 'quirk' and a way to serve the customer, if it were not so expensive for US.  Every time I type a paragraph and then have to take it all out and retype it in slightly different language [which does not change its meaning at all]; every time a dictator starts every sentence with 'the patient' only to change it, every time a dictator starts and restarts a sentence several times, it costs me time and money.

I've never gotten the knack of typing behind the dictator to eliminate this problem, though I've read that's what we should be able to do.  I type right with the dictation, which means I often have to delete stuff and retype it when they change their mind.

Should just post all their open positions in one post and only be allowed to post one of those a day
