He's in management so the interview process sm

In Reply to: Sorry, should be under original post. (nt) - Just a question, but seriously.

is pretty long> He has applied to a couple of places, just still in the midst of the interviews. Also, he's been very busy working long hours since I've known him so right now he's enjoying the opportunity to be with the kids for a little while. Meanwhile he's also still getting his regular salary so my income is being used to reduce our debt.

16-yo son has job interview at K-Mart - interview attire help(sm)

My 16-year-old son has his first job interview at K-Mart.  He has basically applied for any position they will give him.  I'm insisting that he he wear a nice pair of Dickies and a polo shirt (which I will have to go buy but this is not a problem as I expect to do this).  However, My DH is insisting that it's ok for him to go in the nice pair of shorts (not Dickies but more along the lines of baggy shorts that the teenagers are wearing these days) and a t-shirt.  Am I in the wrong here?  I've seen the way these kids dress after they get the job (although I'm not sure if they wear t-shirts and shorts).  Am I being old fashioned in assuming that you dress decent for a job interview (although if he was applying for a welding position at the local shipyard I don't know if I'd make him dress up).  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  TIA

Should it be "life cycle management" or "lifecycle management"?
Having a debate at work.
In the process
Some of us were VERY HAPPY with Medquist until recently, complaining right now is a way of seeing what is going on to figure out the best solution. Support is another reason. When you are with a company for YEARS and you come to the realization that it will soon be over, who in their right mind is not effected emotionally and discussion is good for that. If you can't empathize with that, I would thank you to please just ignore us.
I'm in the process of looking for another job (sm)
How long did you use their plan before they did this to you?

I am in the process.....
of making this transition now.  I am taking the AAPC home study course with tuition help from my employer.  Sorry I can't answer you questions at this point, but I hope to be able to in the near future.  My goal is to sit for the CPC exam in 6 months.  A lot of coders do work from home now, especially in the hospital setting, and they are paid well.  I talked to a coder about a year ago who was working from home for a local hospital and at that time was making $21/hour.  She was trying to encourage me to do the same.  I am told that coders for physician specialities make much more.  Finally, I am taking steps towards making the change.  Hopefully, I will have some great information to post next year!
i'm in the process right now
of working at a new job (worked there briefly previously) but i want to be sure of what i'm getting into also. my plan is to get more comfortable with this new job and then give notice to my other place of employment; would like to go to part time and then if this other job works out as well as i would like, eventually stop my other job completely. i hope that made sense to you. :)

only trouble is, at the moment, i am exhausted! ;)
I know what you mean, I am in the process of - sm
training to be a school bus driver. Granted it is not a lot of money $12K, but it lessens the pressure on me for an IC income. Plus I am getting vibes that my MTSO is going to lose their contract and I will be out of a job. So if that happens I will have the bus gig to fall back on. I still plan to do MT but on a much more PT basis (from 9-2 each day), no more nights, maybe every other weekend, and reclaim my life. My kids will be much happier I know to see more of me. Good luck to you!
I'm in the process of doing this (sm)
You can get an Intellimover and transfer files.  You can copy your files onto a CD, which is what I'm doing.  For EXText, you'll have to be reinstalled by the IT person.  Hope this helps.
When you said I'm now in the process
of working my way up a little higher on the ladder, how far can you go on a transcription's ladder? That is a fairly laughable sentence unless you plan on opening up your own place and having transcriptions to work under you. The MTer job does not keep going and going unlike other jobs. You know no raises like other jobs, no advancements because where do they go. Your sentence makes no sense. These posts here are about as bad as the ones below, don’t really see any difference except realistic in 1 place and sorta haha in the other one.
This is the process I use and seems the most productive
When I get a bad dictator, which is 70% of the time, whether it be one who rushes, one who mumbles, an ESL, or one with a bad phone line, i'll type the report quickly, leaving blanks, just to give it a dry run and an overall feel for what its about.  Then I go back and listen carefully, research if needed, and fill in the blanks.  With this, about 75% of the time I can get ALL the blanks.  I don't obsess over something too much the second time around.  If its an easy dictator, I'll go through it slowly and carefully one time and send it on its way without rereading.
The training process

>>>you end up fixing things like changing "were" to "are", "a" to "an", that kind of thing.

Like I said, it's all in the training process, which includes ar-ti-cu-lating correctly. You have to feel the words form in your mouth. If you don't, you're going to have errors like these. Also, did you use add phrases to the vocabulary? You sometimes have to do that. What about the microphone? If you used one of those right out of the box, that could be the problem. And your sound card? Did the program analyze thousands of documents? --- You can't just install the program and off you go. Like many an expansion program, you have to put time and effort into it ... but the gains are worth it (at least, they were for me).

>>>Easier in my opinion to type from scratch,

It depends upon the individual. If you're a relatively fast typist (100+) who can remember ten of thousands of abbreviations, or you're a whiz bang with ST or IT (which still ultimately requires memorization) you're certainly not going to benefit from the program aside from alleviating any pains and discomfort you might have as the result of RSI. But to those of us who who aren't whiz kids or are experiencing physical discomfort from years of clicking the keyboard, VR is blessing.

>>>not to mention that you are usually making half what a normal line rate is to do VR.

I can dictate and proof an average of 350 lph. Multiply that by 7 hours in a day.

in process of new addition
VINYL/congolium (spelling?) all the way. We had ceramic tile and it was a light color, stains, slippy but most of all COLD. We love the congolium flooring (nice vinyl) we put in and are doing it on our new addition.

Application process
Thanks, MTMommy, for your encouragement. I will do that from now on.
Application process

My apologies if posting on wrong forum, but I am beginning to get paranoid and am wondering if I'm not doing something correctly.  When I respond to an ad on MT Stars, I click on the "Apply now" button, fill out the boxes appropriately with MY email address, etc., and then click "Submit."  It tells me it has sent the message to the "Desired recipient" (employer).  Am I doing this correctly?  I have applied for so many positions, am an experienced radiology MT with 30 years' experience, and am having a hard time accepting the fact that absolutely no one is responding to my applications. I've tried Keystrokes (needed 15 MTs for rad) and others.  I check every hour to see what new ads are posted and respond within that time frame.  I know it can take a couple of weeks or longer to hear anything, but when I hear that others hear back the next day I have to wonder if I'm just not performing the application process correctly.  Any feedback would be appreciated.  I'm getting worried and cannot find work.  Thanks.

application process...
You need to go directly to the websites of different employers. Spheris.com medquist.com, transcend.com, etc. Then you can fill out an application directly from their site. You are a dream for any medical transcription company, being that you have 30 years experience. Don't get bummed out. I promise you will find something. Just go directly to the employer's website's.
Am in the process of leaving a job right now, and it's a very

I am also in the process of researching this. So far, (sm)
I have learned that the Core Duo is the best for running the new Vista. As far as brand names, I have never been happy with HP with their desktops, so I think I will just skip over their laptops. I love Dell products and have always had good luck with them and their customer service (I know some have not, but I have). However, both Toshiba and Sony Vaio have been recommended to me and I am looking into them right now.

Please post anything you might come across, as I am very interested in the responses to your question.

Have a great day!
What do you think of the job testing process?

I've been taking tests because I'm looking for a new job, and man, these tests take a lot out of you. For lots of companies, you have to take a screening test, an objective test, and a transcription test. If you take a lot of these for several different companies, it can be so tiring.

I wish that companies would shorten their tests. Half the time you don't even hear back from these companies anyway.

Anyone know the process for getting accts...
directly from Nuance (Dictaphone) to work on that are set up on their Enterprise system?
Decision Process.....
I am in the process of taking on some part-time work, along with my account that I currently have.  I have had offers from several good companies, two of them are paying me 10 cpl, another 8 cpl per gross line, one 9 cpl and another 8.5 cpl.  The two that pay 10 cpl are super-nice to deal with, really they all have been great and that's what's making this decision so hard.  I'd like to just accept them all, but know that's just not possible.  These are all IC positions, so other than the pay difference, what else would you look at to determine which to go with?  BTW, all are for flexible shifts and are all IC positions.  Thanks for the advice.
Long process
from what I am told. I just started mine. Half of the people I know that have done this have gotten their money, half have not. You could also try small claims court. That is problematic too if you live in a different state because it is costly. The owner knows all of this and is counting on your quitting. So don't give up. She/He will do it all over again to someone else.
How far does it get into the boot process? sm
A bootup problem always suggests something related to the hard drive, but there's stuff that happens during the boot before the hard drive comes into the picture. Do you see anything at all on your screen when you turn the computer on?
Software upgrade under process.
Company board is back now.

Thanks,

It's a hard process but here's a link

Where I work for they can tell during the setup process.
And, they'll take someone who has accelerated dialup.
I just went through a very strenuous testing process

I had to take an objective test and then transcribe 4 reports and QA 3 reports.  For the transcription and QA part, they were supposed to give me instructions on downloading the files from their FTP site except I never received an email.  So when I emailed back, they said "oh sorry, I thought I sent this to you already."  So I took the transcription/QA portion, and then within five minutes of me returning the completed reports they said the position had been filled!

They didn't even grade my test!  It's that kind of crap that puts me off.  I took the time to take their test and to follow up with them when they had fallen down on the job and then they don't even bother to grade my test?  Not to mention before I started transcribing the reports, they probably knew they were hiring someone else anyway!

All I have to say to these MTSOs is get a clue!  You want us to behave professionally, how about returning the favor?  Our time is just as valuable as yours.

MedScribe is in the process of going to ChartNet sm
They have moved some accounts and are doing this hospital by hospital. I'm still on the old system but my turn is coming. I was a little nervous about it at first, but from what I've ready here, I am now looking forward to it.

MedScribe is a great company...I've worked for them a little over a year after leaving MQ and am very happy here. :-)
Here is my input..just went through hiring process. sm
If you have no felony convictions, you should be okay.

The background check is to make sure you are who you say you are. They will check your credit report, your references, criminal history, and past employers.

So, if everything was met and you have no record, you should be fine.

You have nothing to lose by applying and interviewing. Go for it!!

Everyone has a past, maybe not like yours, but a past nonetheless. Move on from it an let it go. You need peace in your life and maybe this job will help bring it to you.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.
QA should be used to teach and aid in the process of MT'ing sm
Not to pick apart and make the MT feel inadequate. Does it really matter if there is a comma missing....not really. The report still reads the same and is a technical document.

QA should be friendly and helpful, at least that is how I try to be in my QA position. We are in this together not against each other. We have the same purpose....to make sure that patient has the most accurate record possible. We all should work as a team, in my most humble opinion.

Happy Holidays Everyone!
What is your process for checking your work
Just wondering what everyone does to check their own work before they send it off.  Do you read back over the whole thing, read after each paragraph, ....
Interview
The interview with Amphion is nothing to be worried about.  They basically just ask you your past experience as a Transcriptionist and what areas you feel are your strengths/weaknesses.  It was not a difficult interview at all.  They're very nice people.  Good luck on the interview!
Interview
I would be more than happy to participate also.
interview?
I have an interview with a company and I just realized... I have no idea what to expect. I wasn't really interviewed when I got my last transcription job, I was basically thrown into it to see how I did and I happened to do well. Is there anything that makes an MT interview different from an interview with, say, a retail company?
interview
I only have one piece of advice for you. Over the last 25 years (until I got smart) I have worked in doctor's offices. I say, don't do it. You will automatically become their secretary, office assistant, receptionist, insurance clert, medical assistant... you get my drift. Go to another transcription company and ask for more than 8-9 cents per line. Trust me on this.
How is the sign-up process? Is it high pressure?
xx
Testing process using foot pedal...sm

Does anyone know how to use your foot pedal while testing for companies?  I am having to use my mouse to start and stop the dictation and it is taking me FOREVER......help.....

Thanks.

I can't wait 'til they add that to our I-9 identification process, LOL. nm

Interview With Prosecutor
The prosecutor from Aruba was interviewed last week and she said they can still go ahead with charging the boy with murder even without a body.  She said it would be harder to make the case but they have some evidence which, by law, they cannot disclose.

Transcend Interview
I tested yesterday online with Transcend.  Got an e-mail today stating they would like an interview so I called and scheduled one.  Not sure yet about quitting MQ but am very nervous about their new plans as I am a SE.  Anyone been interviewed via phone by Transcend and what can I expect?  Heart is pounding so nervous.
Interview today sm

I also have an interview today with Transcend and wondering what to expect. Hopefully, I'll be leaving Medquist soon, too.

job interview tomorrow ... what do you think?

Hi all ... I'm going to a local hospital tomorrow for an interview.  The job is in the laboratory.  It's a f/t position where half the day you do pathology transcription and the other half secretarial work.  It's mon-fri, 9-5.

This is in New York (the suburbs) actually, about 1/2 hour north of NYC.  I have 13  years of medical records transcription experience, and prior to that for 5+ years worked as a secretary to a medical director.

How much of a salary should I expect ?   Thanks!

JoJo

At the end of the interview, the decision
was up to Mr. Trump, not Randall. In the business world, you protect your own position and interest, and he showed Mr. Trump that he was indeed tough enough to do that. This is not "Survivor," taking someone to the final two.

As far as Rebecca goes, she is indeed a very impressive 23-year-old. Her exposure from the show will take her far, perhaps farther than the Trump organization. However, she is still quite young. The right candidate was selected for this position.
what an MT test I took on an interview !

I went for a job interview at NYC's largest hospital yesterday.  The job was for an Admin Assist position, with a lot of transcription skills as well.  For the transcription part of the exam, "all the equipment is in use right now" they told me, and they decided to give me a LIVE test:

They got one of the anesthesiologists on staff to find a chart and pull up a chair next to me.  Face to face he dictated a report to me, as I typed it.  It was weirdddddd!  But I did very good on it actually ... it was an easy (for me) report.

I don't want the job though ... they practically told me on the interview the job pays from 9-5, but the hours are WHATEVER IS NEEDED - and that they needed 'flexibility'.  You know what that means - the job better become my entire life.  And I'm not willing to do that.

Thanks guys!  And have a happy holiday !

I had a phone interview...
with Amphion. No, they don't ask you any test questions or anything like that. It's simply an opportunity for them to see what you are looking for and what they have to offer, etc. Fairly quick and painless. The woman I spoke to was very nice!
Interview attire
I left the corporate world less than two years ago to be at home with my kids, but when I left pant suits were very much the norm, and I think that would be very appropriate for a job interview, even if there won't be a dress code. I think the days are gone where you have to wear a skirt to be professional. There are so many nice looking, professional pant suits now. Good luck to you!
I just saw an interview with Chris from AI
on our local Fox news.  Everyone was figuring he was going to win and he was supposed to fly home tonight and there were going to parties all over town tomorrow.  Anyway, he couldn't get out a complete sentence that didn't have "well you know" in it.  Articulate he isn't.
Dressing for an Interview
When I was in a class at college that helped you to prepare for getting a job, women were to wear a suit, jacket and skirt with white blouse, and guys a suit and white shirt and tie.

I realize this is just an interview at K-mart but I have heard of others landing a job partially because they made a great impression by dressing up regardless of the position they were interviewing for. My brother was one of those people that did this for an auto parts delivery man position and they told him how impressed they were with his attire. So, I really do think it makes a big statement and difference a lot of times.

Wishing your son the best of luck! I say dress up the best he can, present himself professionally, and he will be more apt to land the job. :)
Interview Attire
I just finished with an in-house interview a month ago. I wore a nice black skirt, a white blouse, and a nice blazer over the blouse. To complete the outfit, I had on black pantyhose and black shoes.
when was it ever $80,000/year! Every interview I had with them
it was $25,000/year, even last year, it was still $25,000/year, no taxes. If it were $80,000, bombs or no bombs, I'd jump on it in a minute, and I would wear a burka ... it beats what some transcriptionists wear to work already LOL!
