Haven't seen it. There was this one poster, "mt," who was stressed out

I just read some of the posts from the end of September, and boy oh boy, was she ever stressed out about her QA situation. She was so stressed out that she was out-and-out arguing with folks who were simply trying to offer her some good advice for what she was going through. She was on a rampage. She responded to those helpful posters with exclamation points and wtf's and @!% many times.
Now *that* was nasty, IMO, although she was stressed. I'm sure that after she calmed down and read that thread of hers a day or two later, she could probably have seen how disagreeable and unreasonable she was being to those who were only trying to help. A lot of displaced anger there, if you ask me.
Anyway, I think this board is very helpful (I found a GREAT job because of this board), and I certainly don't mind helpful advice nor do I mind disagreements and debates, as long as they're kept on an adult level and aren't lowered to the "wtf" (and other #@!) level....
I like this board just the way it is. My opinion.

Hey, we were all "MT wannabes" sm
at one time. It's normal that you feel you will "never get it down." I'm an oldster so I learned the "old" way and I've taught...."the old way." There are ways to make learning much easier. Could you post where your problem areas are and I, for one, will do my best to give you suggestions? Better yet, if you'll give me an email address, I'll offer to be your mentor and I'll tell you honestly after a very few days whether you should consider another career choice. AND before I get flamed, I offer this for free simply because I love MT wantabees!
Many years ago I trained my daughter in MT. She would just cry in frustration and tell me "I'll never be able to do this." She was so excited the first time she typed 10 pages in an 8 hour day. Today she is one of those MT's who honestly make in the neighborhood of $60,000-70,000 and she works about 48 hours per week AND for a big player national. And NO she is not a "cherry picker," I taught her better than that.
In any event, my advice rule #1 is to grit your teeth and dig in and DO NOT GIVE UP, HANG WITH IT. I've always told everyone I trained to expect it to take 5 years to become really proficient. I said "proficient," that doesn't mean that it will take 5 years to make a living. :)
I worked with a "MT" that went there - sm
needless to say she was not very good and eventually got fired after multiple MTs checked her work, would inform her of the mistakes she was making, etc. She never got any better and made the same mistakes over and over again. Part of it was the school and a big part of it was her.
Sorry, an "MT" should never make such basic mistakes,
FLAME AWAY.
Check out the posting on job board titled "mt job".
This is who we're losing our jobs to?!?!
I'm stressed out
My periods have gotten longer and longer cycles this year (just turned 30), Since March about 5 weeks and now it's 7 weeks this month and no period yet. I'm freakin out. I took two pg tests and they were negative. I don't know what's wrong, unless it's the stress. I would say I've gained maybe 10 pounds this year also.
Yes and I get them almost every day. I think too when I am stressed which is a lot I think that
might make them worse.
stressed out
I'm stressing and fretting over a whole bunch of little things. I'm so tired and feel like I just need to hibernate for a month.
But as I "watch" the news as I work and see the devastation and how thousands of lives have just been turned upside-down, my little stressors and problems seem so insignificant.
Last year I was affected by 2 of the 4 hurricanes that hit Florida, going without power for about 2 days in each of them. It was pretty miserable. At least I had a house. These poor people who evacuated don't even know if they have a place to call home anymore, nor do they even know when they might find out.
...just feeling guilty about my insignificant pity party and figured writing about it would help. Thanks for listening.
Stressed out!
Can anyone recommend a company who has true IC status? I work for a small company as an IC, and although I work a regular schedule 95% of the time, there are times when I cannot and yet I'm still expected to produce the same amount of work each day. This is really stressing me out. I have to work around my son's school schedule and my husband's work schedule and if that changes I have to make it up by working into the night when I'd just assume to forfeit the money. Does true IC status even exist? I got into this business thinking I would have a little more flexibility in a job. I've been an IC now for three years and so far it all seems the same. Thanks for any suggestions (and for letting me vent).
re: Stressed out
I was an IC for a small service in California (bought by the Q). Here's how I did it. We provided a calendar for the month on the days we were available and how many lines/minutes we would take. We didn't have to do it at a certain time, but understood by our signed contracts and our account specifics what kind of turn-around-time the account needed, 6 hour, 12 hour, 24 hour, etc. based on work type. We were then asked to never take more than 10 minutes at a time (at that time it was re-record or by C-phone - in 2000), but once we reached our agreed on minutes/lines, we could stop or keep going if we wished. The reason for not taking more than 10 minutes at a time was if an emergency happened and you couldn't work then there wasn't more than a couple of jobs to get help with. If we knew before our agreed-upon hours/days that we weren't going to be able to work it was our responsibility to let the service know. If we were available on other days to make up lines or in a pinch, we also had that option, too.
If an account was swamped, the service would send out an e-mail and ask if anyone was interested in helping out. They ALWAYS thanked us and treated us like we were more than just someone at a computer. In fact when I obtained my CMT, the owner of the service is the first person I called other than my mama! If I started running out of work on my main account, then they would always find another for me to work on. I never had less than 98% QA, and in fact most of the time had 100%! I'm not perfect, I'm a perfectionist! hee hee.
Anyway, I feel if you agree by contract to take work on, then it is your responsibility to do that work. If you are unable to do the work, then don't take it! If you do not fulfill your obligations, then ultimately it is patient who does not receive their necessary care.
you may just be too stressed
or nervous to absorb everything new well. relax. Its not simple. it's maybe too simple. took me longer than i thought it would to really adapt well, but when it kicks in, you really start flying. Give yourself time and push the expectations aside. You'll do fine!
Well first of all I think you are so stressed...
that you are not reading these replies thoroughly...everyone on here just gave you advice yet you don't want to hear it...like another poster said, take a deep breath and hang in there...right now you are new and everything seems horrible but it does get better if you hang in there...good luck!!
Sounds like you are stressed and trying
to not be so rushed in the morning. I've done it on occasion, but it does make the bread harder and drier.
Anyone else stressed out by Thanksgiving?
It seems like there is always SOME sort of drama going on in my family whenever we get together - we're somewhat dysfunctional, LOL. I always find myself dreading the holidays and I hate that - I should be looking forward to being with my fam (mainly my four sisters). They seem to always be in a state of crisis or jealousy whenever I see them. ARGH. Anyone relate?
I don't think I'm stressed now, just not having much fun, kwim? I'm really sm
a social services kind of gal at heart, so while this is somewhat in line with it, it's not directly involved enough to really be satisfying for me. I've got friends who are teachers though, so I know what you're saying!
Dear Stressed:
I hear ya! Believe me it seems to be the going deal. Notice how not many hire Monday through Friday any longer. Always includes a weekend day now too. Everything we wanted to be able to work at home is being taken away. Bout ready to look elsewhere. Pay sucks and is only getting worse.
Yes :( I'm totally stressed out in my own home. (nt)
Your posting sounds stressed out
Because you were on 1 subject, then another, then another. I find it very strange that a child would go in for an x-ray and a physician would just start talking to them about a shot for cervical cancer. Just does not make any sense to me at all. You did not go for that visit. When going to a physician now days I can hardly state the reason I came in the first place, they hardly have time to spend with you and then to be completely off the subject? Hmmmmm
I feel like that a lot. I get stressed out a lot and life just seems to overwhelm me.
Sometimes I feel like running away or something. I had two friends pass away during this time of year, plus I lost a baby right before Christmas. It seems like DH and I argue more this time of the year and the kids act up more. The finances stink, and there's so much pressure because of the holidays. No matter what plans we make for the holidays, somebody always has their nose out of joint over it. We don't have enough money for Christmas this year either. I've been trying to take on extra work. I didn't even see the kids all weekend because I was working.
Anyway, when I feel like this, it helps to vent even if it's just to my computer. I keep a password protected Word document for a diary. I listen to soothing music, take a long bath, bake something or read a book. I walk around the house and make a To Do list of everything that's adding to my stress, then I try to tackle one thing per day. Baby steps. If you try to do it all at once, it will overwhelm you. Sometimes I bribe my kids to help with the housework. They have daily chores, but we all pitch in together and get the "big chore list" done, then we can watch a movie together, play a board game, or eat at McDonald's.
What are you doing to take care of yourself? You need a little pampering, too. If I lived near you, I'd stop by and help you with your housework or watch your kids so you could nap. I'd bring you a gift bag full of bubble bath, stinky candles, herbal teas and chocolate. You sound like you could use a {{{{hug}}}}. Take care of yourself.
Been dealing with banks all morning and majorly stressed.
Have you ever had a credit card and all the phone numbers they give you do not allow you to talk to a live person, but get an automated system, that is not capable of doing what you need? Have you ever had a late charge because it took the bank 3 days to post an on-line payment? I'm going to have to write a letter I guess and when the next statement comes I'm paying it off and cancelling, though I'm not sure how I'll do that - have to write another letter.
Can you use a debit card on-line just like you can a credit card. I know most places only accept 3 major credit cards and didn't know if I entered a Visa debit # if that would be the same. I prefer Paypal cause I keep a little stash for on-line purchase, though most places don't take Paypal at least not yet. I just know I've got to get rid of the credit cards - much too stressful.
Our school has good scores but my kids have never been stressed
Probably depends on the teachers and the corporate culture at your school.
I am feeling so stressed by changes at my company, holidays, friends dying,
not sure where to turn next. I really feel like I need to dump my whole situation and start from the beginning by doing a job where I am around people during the day instead of the curt phone calls from the office, and not having enough time to even talk or go out of the house to do anything. Why can't these companies have a little time to just say hello, thanks for a good job, or just something nice once in a while. Everything in the communication is negative, negative, and more negative. Team leaders are the pits, too. It is jusd do more, do more; they don't care if you are sick, and it means nothing to them to pile on more stress and more demands so they look good. They want you to work every day of the week, but they sure do take their days off, don't they.
Poor baby! I feel stressed just reading your thread. SM
I doubt anyone realizes going in just how very long it's going to take to become competent (after all, only nuts would apply), and the very long hard haul to even decent earnings is gruelling enough on its own.
Then to have to deal with all that! If you can't fix it (try) and decide you can't live with it, don't quit the industry--take the experience you've already invested in and look for a small operation to train further with, either local or on-line. I started with a small office owned and run by two sisters, lovely sweet women who made the amazing experience of struggling to get good enough to bring in minimum wage (!) endurable. Best wishes!
Good one. An anonymous poster blows another anonymous poster's head off. Great win for MQ?
I guess that is a small pleasure for those of you who have lowered your expectations for the company you work for.
Bet you're married to a fat bald guy too.
When I stressed the important of having medical documents (legal documents)
on the patient's chart (there are outpatient exams done. Hospital is in the outpatient business), the woman said that if there is a serious finding on an exam, the radiologist will call the referring physician and tell him by phone!
This, my friends, is the result of hiring people who have no real background in the medical field (the lead MT never worked anywhere prior to this job, got on-the-job training and has, through a dominant personality, created a tight circle of workers which are marked up of friends from her life and church services over a 15 year period.
OMG!!!
Haven't actually done it yet, but...
I have been wanting to do it and had looked it to it several years ago. I do believe that old concrete has to be etched first in order to open up the "pores." I was looking at using a concrete "stain" I believe it was made by Behr brand and was sold at Home Depot. It comes in lots of colors. It was my understanding that the etching and then the stain would basically allow the color to soak into the concrete rather than sit on top like paint and wouldn't have the problems with peeling. However, unfortunately, I haven't tried it yet but just wanted to offer another suggestion for you to look into. Good luck!
I haven't but my son did. sm
If you feel okay, it's probably a muscle or even an intestinal cramp. If you start to feel sick, or even just lousy, or the pain intensifies and you start to feel feverish, you should spend the $100.00.
My son was 16 and he was very, very sick. It came on in the middle of the night very quickly. He finally yelled to me at 5:00 in the morning because he couldn't get out of bed. He said he thought he had food poisoning and had been vomiting all night and his stomach hurt really bad. Just one look at him (greyish/green pallor) and I knew it was bad. We went right to the ER and the nurse came right out and got him as soon as the front desk person took one look at him. Paperwork was done later as he was prepped for surgery.
It wasn't a half hour before he was in surgery to remove his appendix that was about to burst.
He was really sick. I had a friend who just had hers out. She didn't wait as long, but she really felt horrid.
I haven't gone through it or know anyone who has
the best. I hope the lump turns out not to be cancer.
take care.
I haven't gotten anything either.

NEW HAVEN, CT
NO MESSAGE
still haven't gotten over
yummy, yummy, yummy
Haven't had one but....
I've been with several others who have had, conscious sedation is much less risky and each time the patient recovered extremely quickly, no discomfort or side effects.
I haven't seen anything less than
3-4 cpl and most are only offering 1-2 cpl. Maybe if you are lucky, you can get an hourly gig.
Who knows - you may be right. I haven't - sm
run two operating systems at the same time, but anything is possible these days! I do have duplicate other software that I run because I don't like what came with the PC. For example, my old Photoshop instead of Windows' version; two different spam blockers & firewalls, and I use an old external Iomega drive & Iomega software for burning CDs because the Windows one doesn't work half the time. One thing I've learned about computers over the years is you shouldn't always take "no" for an answer with them. In the PC world, "no" usually means "find another way to do it." ;D
I haven't seen much about them lately, but if you
check the company board you can find info there. Doesn't appear to be very good though.
Your right TMT...those who haven't done it, don't get it..
I have been an MT for 10 years and have been home with both of my children and my work doesn't suffer nor do my children...don't take what others say personally...they don't know your or your situation :)
I haven't taken it yet,
but I did take the RMT back in January. I am scheduled for the CMT at the end of June.
One of my supervisors suggested learning all 12 cranial nerves. I printed them out and stuck them on the wall next to my bathroom to study while teeth-brushing. Now that's what I call multitasking. :)
Other than that, it has been suggested to study the various word parts, prefixes and suffixes and roots, because if you get those down cold, you can muddle your way through words that you don't actually know the meaning of. Medicolegal stuff is also something that gets pointed out as a thing to study.
I have heard several people recommend the CMT study guide. I am working my way through it now.
And know your BOS cold. Second edition; they haven't switched to third edition yet for the exam.
One of my co-workers talked to someone at AHDI who told her you only have to get half of the transcription section correct (and that's supposedly the easier part), and you have to get 62 of the 102 multiple choice questions right. That figure will come in handy when you are actually taking the test, because you can mark questions to come back to, and if you keep track of how many questions you KNOW you have correct (i.e. the real no-brainers), you can actually run a calculation to figure out how many questions you can afford to "throw" and thus not spend TOO much time or energy obsessing on the ones you aren't sure about.
Also, be very careful on the transcription portion, to follow the instructions exactly. For instance, if a particular problem is a "fill in the missing phrase" problem, if there are commas and periods and other punctuation marks already supplied, do NOT repeat them. In other words, your finished sample should look exactly like a normal piece of finished work. For more info about this, visit the CMT page of the AHDI website and take a look at the "candidate guide," starting on page 9.
Above all... remember to BREATHE! It's not so bad. Really. At least the RMT wasn't; I finished the whole thing in slightly under an hour, and walked out of the place muttering that I've done harder work than that in my sleep.
Feel free to e-mail me if you have any other questions. I am crankybeach at yahoo dot com.
I'm very sorry, (), I haven't been around a while.
First, I admit I don't use AutoCorrecct so I can't speak to that. It's far better than nothing, but it's just not a professional-level application adequate to the intensive use we need to put it to. Also, it can crash with overuse and lose everything invested in it.
Shorthand and InstantText are two excellent programs, and I recommend them both to anyone looking for an expander.
IMO, it's not at all true that we need our Expanders very little with editing--just the opposite. I can understand why people think so, though. Very little is being said on this because it's all such new technology and there's not been a lot of experience built up. We're the first wave. But toss that defeatest belief aside. You keystroke all day long. If you could cut your Keystrokes by half you'd double your income. Even cutting them by a third... This is very, very doable.
Editing consists of corrections, many of them very short but done hundreds of times a day. If you can use your Expander to shorten a 6-stroke correction to a smoother and shorter 3-stroke correction, you're doubling your rate of pay every time you use it for those keystrokes. And feeling a whole lot happier about what you're doing--it's a significant upgrade in your skills and you're breezing through reports much faster. I just happen to feel like I'm going backwards when I use my backspace key, so I don't. Every use it's put to is part of a short form, and that key is seldom touched.
Corrections come in various types--
Changing the case of a letter or word. For me, F changes the case of the letter it's in front of, lantus to Lantus, Ampicillin to ampicillin. FF changes the case of the whole word.
Adding a word, words, or phrases not included. Deleting words not dictated and replacing with those that are.
In editing it's typically much less a matter of dropping in whole blocks of text and instead correcting lots of individual words and phrases--make abbreviations for ALL of them. mk abrevjs l AL o uem. (l is my short for FOR, o is OF, u is short for TH in a word but short for HER on its own).
The same for little short phrases--iort is in order to. beo because of. epld is was placed (E is my short for WAS). Store ALL of them.
Correcting punctuation. I have macros for every one that pops up all day long. ,q backs up, deletes a punctuation mark, replaces it with a comma, and repositions the cursor at the next word--without changing the case of that word. ,, does the same thing but changes the case of the next word to combine two sentences into one.
Making these was as simple as recording the keystrokes of the correction into my expander as I did them for the last time.
bb links two words together so they don't split at the end of a line.
Correcting verb tenses and word endings. qd backs up, inserts ed, then repositions at the next word. qdd does the same thing but backs two spaces to deletes a letter (looks to looked).
Correcting headings. /abq moves "abdomen" in the middle of a block of text to the beginning of the next line and changes it to ABDOMEN: //abq does the same but also bolds it.
Correcting gender. R is my abbreviation for he, and rq corrects her to he. kq changes "he" to "she."
kt adds a "The" to the beginning of a sentence and changes the previously-first word to lower case. Same for ka for adding A to the beginning of a sentence, kit for It, kk for She.
;;3 and ;;4 change prednisone, loratidine to
3. Prednisone.
4. Loratidine.
At the very least (ah vr lest) shorten words to phonetic spellings--fonetc spelgs.
Far from not using my expander as I edit all day long, any time I make a correction that doesn't have a short form I feel as if I'm making a mistake. Surely there's SOME way I can save at least one keystroke there?
This may sound like a lot, but it's so FUN and satisfying to make an important short form and start using it. Would any of us ever want to go back to typing out chronic obstructive pulmonary disease by hand again instead of copdd or whatever the short form of choice is? It's the very same thing. Just applied to everything.
Best wishes.
I haven't been there that long so I can't say for sure, mostly because
the account they put me on is extremely low on work so I can't even work my scheduled shift in the first place. If I want to work, I've been having to grab reports right as they come in and work extra at night. They keep saying they are getting me a secondary but it hasn't happened yet; say everything is low right now. I am very pleased with every other aspect of this company, but it seems that they overstaff for fast turn around times. Therefore, you go without work a lot of the time and that doesn't pay the bills. No one seems to understand that we work on production and while I would most enjoy days off, I can't afford them......
..oops! Should be haven't seen one...nm
,
I haven't seen any brochures, but if you
look at the Job Seekers board and go to some of the company websites you would probably see what you are asking for.
Haven't gotten the letter yet
MQ is run by a bunch of jerks.
I haven't gotten my check but did
get Ipay notice, no letter of explanation yet, HOWEVER, my check is for pennies over $25.00 (twenty-five). This is supposed to be for 2 years???? What is wrong with this picture???????????????
You haven't been in banking for a
while and can't remember? You can remember when you're on the board dishing out unsolicited financial advice - can't you?
Haven't heard any more
but if all the MEs would do it, we should refuse to do ASR on October 1st. This is really a disgrace what is going on with the company and with what is going on, on this board at times (which is really sabotaging our professionalism.
I am about to! They haven't paid me from last
pay period and nobody answers my e-mails. Unprofessional!
haven't done that one right in years
excuse me - Have not done that 1 right in years!!!
I haven't found them
What I've seen ranges from 2.5 cpl to 15 per hour.
No! I'm 48 years old and still haven't had a new car!!!!
I don't think kids should be given a new car. That is a good place in life to teach them that they have the ability to work hard, save their money and buy anything they want. It gives them the incentive to want to make more money, which gives them the incentive to take care it (the car they finally buy) and also gives them the incentive to work hard in school/college so that they will get a very good paying job when they are finished with their college, so they can afford the expensive things they desire, like in the "real world" where everything isn't given to them.
You haven't checked around much then.
Spheris' top accounts pay 10.2 cpl base plus incentive and differential for acute care work.
My current national employer pays me 10 cpl base plus incentive and differential for acute care work.
That's 2 that I can personally vouch for.
Hopefully you haven't already bought. nm
Why even go? You haven't said a good
thing about your sister all week, why put yourself through that, especially if your parents aren't live to care if you all get together. Why not stop by for drinks and snacks Christmas Eve and then do your own thing Christmas. It s/l you and other sister are afraid to stand up to big sister, so nothing will ever change.
My family is so dysfunctional now that my parents are gone it is a blessing that we don't have to all get together and I don't have to play nice all day. I don't go to any of the holiday get togethers because the stress is simply not worth it.
