Friday poll - Are you a CMT? Multiple choice...>>>

Put your answer in your subject line, so we can see the results without opening every post, please.  Thanks!

Are you a CMT?

A. Yes.

B. No.

C. Will be soon.

D. Will be later.

E. Who cares???

I would buy new a Dorland's Medical Dictionary, Stedmans Medical and Surgical Equipment...SM

and Tessier's The Surgical Word Book, 3rd edition.  Books you could buy used I would say would be Stedman's Pathology and Lab Medicine and Cardiology/Pulmonary word book.  These are all the books I use the most during my day.  You could buy other speciality word books as you need them and could probably go used with those.

I wouldn't bother with buying a drug book, new editions come out every year and I just stick to the FDA website and RXList as my drug references.

Also FYI, not a book, but I use my Stedman's Electronic Medical Dictationary a lot.  It's easier to open the program than it is to pick up a huge 30-pound dictionary.

Not a medical typing test but this website can test you..

It's called www.typingtest.com

Atleast it will give you an idea.. Sadly, I had to take it twice before I passed it LOL

Medical Dictionary

Does anyone know if there is a place to download a free medical dictionary?

Medical Dictionary
MT Mom
Hey thanks guys for the suggestions. I am going to be doing transcription at home for they physician I work for and am using Word perfect 12. It has a spell check on it but was looking for a medical spell check I could download and use along with a general spell check.
This is why every MT should own a medical dictionary. NM

I loaded Stedman's and it did not automatically load into my Word dictionary.  Can anyone help me out?
Dorland's Medical Dictionary nm

Your QA needs to get a good medical dictionary. SM
I've been an MT for a long, long time and I have never heard of anything so ridiculous.
Do you have the medical dictionary or just the spellchecker? I'm
curious about the electronic dictionary.  Thanks.
Stedman's Medical Dictionary
I want to move a custom Stedman's medical dictionary to another computer (the one the MT created).  Does anyone know how to do this?  Thanks !
what kind of medical dictionary CD .....

What kind of medical dictionary program do you  have on your computer?  I'm wanting to get one but not sure what's good.  I usually buy Stedman's books.  Thanks for any info.

need a good online medical dictionary
that I can use without having to download it because I'm not allowed to download anything and I can't intall my stedman's.
I received one with my dorland Medical Dictionary
And it has been a great help. lp
Stedman's medical dictionary software

Has anyone had any experience with the Stedman's medical dictionary software?  I will be starting with a new company at home soon and I'm wondering about compatibility, etc.  Any info would be appreciated!  Thank you!

I'm trying to purchase a new recliner for my mother. She has multiple medical problems and is ab
5 ft. tall, so her little legs always kind of "hang." I've seen on TV different recliners, motorized, with this and that feature, I keep thinking Craftmatic, but I've looked through there and only see beds. Anyone has any ideas or suggestions? I know my sweet little Mom would really appreciate it.
taking test
I was just downloaded a WAV file to transcribe. I don't know how to get it to start and stop or go backwards. Are there special keys? Foot pedal doesn't work on it. Thanks.
Do a Google search for free medical dictionary NM

Smartype and Stedman's Medical Dictionary are 2 different things.
The Smartype is a word Expander of all the medical terms, but the dictionary is the actual words with definitions.  :)
Don't need a medical dictionary, but you should have the Stedman's spellchecker loaded. Can

Stedmans Medical Dictionary or MD for the Health Prof and Nursing?

Help with taking test with media player
Hi there....I have to take a test using Windows Media Player and I can't figure out how to type in Word and still be able to use the keyboard keys (no foot pedal yet).  If anyone could help it would be much appreciated.
I'm thinking about taking the CMT test and have a few questions...sm

How did you study? Did you take a course? How much did you pay for the course/test? Was the test hard? Did it help you with your job (ie raise)?

I have 6 years experience in acute care (with Medquist). My DH has been pushing me to take the test for years, but I'm a big chicken! I was a nurse before becoming a medical Transcriptionist and I just keep thinking how rough my nursing boards were. Major stressor for me!!

when taking Teletrak Test Simply
Download Express Scribe for free and put the reports in there. I was able to use the foot pedal to do all 10 reports. Once you download reports, right click on them and it asks you if would like to do them in Express Scribe. Worked for me.
Sure, that makes sense, but this person was obviously taking a test. It's not that any of us
seasoned MTs "know it all" as you put it...but can see an obvious cheater when the questions are glaringly test questions.  See both sides of the coin.
You don't get certified taking a program. You test & pass your

If I am taking a transcription test from an employer and the dictator dictates physician names in the report, do I phonetically spell the name out or put a line for a blank?

Approve what? The information used is already part of the medical record and, therefore,...sm
has already been approved or authenticated or whatever one wants to call it.

Lots of searches...one place.

I use that one too, very handy!

MT Word Seeker is cool :)  I've tried others but found this one to be the best amongst them all.

That's when DH's laptop comes in handy!

Handy resource

A pretty handy tool to have.

The book comes with a CD that is just as handy as your MQ version.
I have e-mailed it to a couple friends, but it's probably a copyright violation if you would widely distribute it.  IMO.
classified board comes in handy...might do well there. NM

Credit cards come in handy during emergencies
I know a few people who lived off their credit cards when their savings ran out and they had no income for short periods of time.

Also, other investors might purchase your home. If you want to sell it fast, price it to sell, knock the profit down to 20-25 G.
Thank you! That's pretty handy and saves time! nt

Thanks MacroDiva - nice handy macro. (NM)

E. It is not my choice to make, it is their choice.
Every job has its pros and cons.  The more US MTs we can bring in is that many fewer jobs going overseas.  Besides, I like my job.
Re your normals: keep a list handy, name them with short names..sm
then use Control R after you have typed the normal name; i.e.: Dr. Joe Blow has a ROS that he uses all the time - name it JBROS or something like that, then in the document type JBROS and use the control R to bring it automatically in.
It's a test in progress to measure what MTs know and what type of test to give for the SM
different levels of MTs.  It's over $90.  That's a lot of money to pay to someone who is giving these tests for research as to what type of testing should be done for the different levels of MT.  The AAMT will probably take the results and make a test that they can give in India or the Phillipines or some other foreign country.

Neer's test is a shoulder impingement test

Don't think that has to do with the knee.  How about "bucket handle tear" of the knee?  Never heard of Neer having anything to do with the knee.

happens quite often i would test again or go see your GYN for blood test which is more accurate

The easy part is making the decision to leave, the hard part is
actually doing it.  Been in your shoes and it took me a year and a half to leave after I had made the decision to do so.  It was the best thing I have ever done for myself and my girls.  I had family and friends and a counselor telling me what needed to be done and I knew what needed to be done but until I had the courage on my own to do it I stayed.  One day, we had an argument and he spit in my face and that was the last straw for me.  Even though it is something that I will NEVER forget, that day is also a day I will never forget because it is the day that I took my kids and left.  I am a single mom of 2 and have been single and supporting us for 5 years now.  I have been healing ever since and still am to this day.  You can do this.  I know that if I hadn't have left and I would have stayed one of us would be dead by now or both.

Medical Transcription In The Era Of Electronic Medical Records
EMR has revolutionized the healthcare industry in recent times. Many experts felt that EMR & Voice Recognition would totally replace Medical Transcription - however; the industry soon realized that transcription has certain advantages over point & click charting and many physicians preferred to dictate notes rather than document the data at the point of care themselves.
