Have you tried private dealers? This way you sell direct to them. They usually can SM

I can use the deduction now, and when old and ready to sell, hope sell price is high enough won't
matter.  Also, I think there is a time frame of not working that negates the job deduction factor.
Drug dealers live in nice houses, too.

I know of an "educated" person who bragged to me about buying a house wirth three times as much as my home.  Then we found out her husband had a meth lab in the garage and was dealing in stolen art.  He's in jail and won't see his kids for the next 10 years.  The house was seized, along with their cars, trucks, and hot tub.  We may not have much, but we work hard for what we have.  We don't do drugs, and we'd never do anything to jeopardize our children.

For that matter, go to the law enforcement auctions.  The property they sell, sports cars, houses, everything, was taken from convicted drug dealers.  So, no, meth labs and drug dealers are not only an low income, low education problem.  They're all over, and they make more money than we do until they get busted.  THEM'S the proven statistics.

those are exceptions to the rule and those are KING-PIN drug dealers, not the middle men who run
the drugs. If you have an EDUCATION and make enough money you don't have to deal drugs. The kids in ghettos running the drugs who are getting busted are doing this because they have no education and nothing else to do to make money. THEM's the proven statistics.

You are talking about apples and oranges. Yeah there is a temporarily rich meth guy living in a nice house but the majority of the rich guys are using punk kids with no education to sell the drugs. They aren't their on the corner in the ghetto dealing their own drugs.
Some neighbors are child molestors, some neighbors are drug dealers and

those so-called normal people next door are being arrested for drugs and molestation, and other crimes. This ideology of people thinking that low-life scum only living in trailer parks and the like probably have an everyday-average-looking person right next door that they should probably pay more attention to. Won't THEY be surprised when Mr. Smith who waves at them and visits over the fence with them now and again is one of these perpetrators. Think about it people. It has happened and will happen. And it doesn't ONLY HAPPEN to people in trailer parks. JMO.

So you can fix it up enough to sell it-- then do so
and split the money with the sister. So what if she didn't help. You should be able to get at least 5K if you clean it up. So work two weekends, clean it out, sell it and take your half of the 5K, which is $2500 which is more than enough to cover the $1000 you need. And think of it as a blessing for his sister.  Plus $2500 is a nice chunk of change for house de-junking, don't you think?
Actually, if you did turn around and sell

the computer and stole the SS numbers, don't you think you would be arrested and maybe go to jail or even be fined.

Sure, ya could, but would ya!

We have stood behind what we sell.

How many times should we exchange the pedal before she tries to troubleshoot it through the software or the computer?  We exchanged it even though we did not feel that was the problem.  When the original pedal came back to us it was confirmed that the problem was not the pedal.  The pedals we use are widely considered by the transcription industry to be the most durable pedal available.  They are Infinity pedals.

Do you have property you can sell or
borrow against? A house you can take an equity loan on??

Bless your heart. I feel for you.
Don't sell yourself short....
I charged docs/clinics 12-14 cents/line 5 years ago. They had no problem with this. Being paid by the hour in Canada at home where I work for a local hospital I make $18.33/hr plus 14% in lieu of benefits plus 4% vacation pay ($21.73 per hour) For contract work MT's in my area charge $25 per hour or 14 cents a line. This is not through MT companies - just for docs asking for extra help and our Physiotherapy Depts that do independent medical assessments contract it out to local MTs. Hope this helps. I'm in Ontario
Don't sell yourself short.

If you think that you need to "lower" your rate because you're not driving and picking up, then charge .10/line; otherwise, I would stick with the .11/line and consider it a "raise" if you get the job. Honestly, if the OM is happy with the quality she'll get at .06/line, then you probably didn't want that account anyway because I have found those OMs are the biggest pains and you're better off without the aggravation. JMO.

Anybody sell on Ebay? If so...
I've bought dozens of things on Ebay, only one item there.. today.. then it tells me I have a second chance offer. Not sure what this means, even after reading what it said about it. Any help appreciated !
Yes, yes, yes. Go IC and sell yourself. Get out of the house sm
and actually DRIVE to places where transcription takes place.  Leave a business card, a brochure, etc.  Usually, you'll have opportunity RIGHT THEN AND THERE to meet one of the doctors.  Two practices I stopped at made me WAIT in the waiting room while they got the MD to meet me because they were DESPERATE to find someone who KNEW what they were doing.   I have turned down work in  the past year because I was not able to keep up. One of these days, I might think of operating a small company. For now, I'm quite content.
Sell the furniture if you have to
You can always replace it later. I once sold a bedroom suite to come up with a mtg payment when I hit a low period in my life.

My fear is that your home does not sell for 30G. In Calif., real estate market is saturated with homes not moving and this is not the best time in the world to "flip" a house.
Sell my own stuff.
I had to take my site down for a while because I've been too busy but I make soaps, candles, rice socks, bird houses...lots of stuff.
I'd just get a new computer and sell the old one.
You can get a new computer for $299 when Dell or HP has their closeout model sales or refurbs. Otherwise, you can buy RAM cheap and install it yourself. It's pretty basic. What kind of system do you have? You need to make sure you have an open slot for additional memory.
Should I sell my Lanier?
I have an older Lanier transcribing machine.  I do not plan on ever working for a company that uses it.  I'm not officially selling it yet, just want feedback from my fellow MT's what I should do.  I work after hours using regular mini-cassette tapes for local companies and another company uses Gear Player.  If there's an MT that can use this one, I'd gladly help out!  Thanks in advance...
Don't sell yourself short
Hiring seems to have slowed down quite a bit over the past couple of months (from what I've seen). I have four years in and have been looking for a second company and I can't even find one right now. I know four years is nothing compared to most, but still. I could take my pick in companies this past spring/summer...this always happens though. There will always be a slow down depending on the time of year.

Give it some time, you will find a company THAT PAYS.

Good Luck!!
Private ins
You can get private insurance lots cheaper than MOST COBRA plans but it is up to you.  Also a lot of times they only cover for so long and if I remember correctly dental and vision might  only be for one year and some plans do not COBRA that over.  And if your husband is self employed, then it could be a business expense to provide the insurance and with six figures could easily do it and pay less taxes.  I know COBRA is easier to just kind of roll over into, but again, it only lasts for 18 to 24 months and so you will be looking eventually.   However, just ask why suddenly you are not covered.
why would you sell, take the money, then not provide (sm)
sounds like a scam to me
well, sounds like you're trying to sell something

Does anybody sell on e-Bay to supplement MT income?
How hard is it.  Are you successful.  I've been thinking about it and wondered about other MT successes.  Thanks
Oops, that was sell items on E-Bay (sm)

   So annoyed I can't spell.

I'm wondering if you guys that are trying to sell

that you have already bought, or are planning to buy.  Just wondering because - well, Becky said out before the holidays.

I am thinking I would like to sell my house too but the main reason is it needs so much work done to it, we don't have enough room here, we don't really have the money to do the work that needs to be done, it's an older house (50 years old), I don't have an office, we have one tiny bathroom, the walls/trim need to be replaced and depress me.  And I'm thinking maybe I'd rather RENT a bigger place with more bathrooms and an office than buy another house and have to maintain it.  I know that you don't build up equity that way but I just feel stuck here and with renting, you are free to move when you get tired of it!

Also, if you take the write-off, when you sell your house
One is considered sale of your home and the office portion is considered sale of business property. Sometimes it isn't worth it. It can get complicated, so make sure you know what you're doing up front; good advice below to see a good accountant. Good luck.
Get a belly band. They sell them on e-bay! sm
There is a thing called a belly band. Breeders use these for their males to prevent them from hiking in the house. It is a band that goes around their belly and you put a mini pad or panty liner to absorb the "wee wee" They are usually between $8 to 10 and are machine washable and you can get the mini pads or panty lines for about $1 per package. I used doggy diapers on my girl puppies when they were small and also when they are in heat. They work great! I especially used them when we went to stay at a relative's house and she had brand new carpet and my shih-tzu was just a baby and not yet potty trained. Hope this helps you. Just try searching the web or e-bay for belly bands or doggie diapers. For a male, you want a belly band.
You might want to sell the hardcover version...
...on ebay and invest in the CD. It has a search feature, generics with trade names, etc. You will love it!
AGREE--they only do this to SELL MORE BOOKS. nm

I think that only he and Taylor will sell their records....sm
I can't envision ever buying anything that Katherine or Elliott recorded.

Katherine should have gone home last night.
I think Taylor will sell records
I have his second indie CD and it's fabulous. All original songs, written by him, and it's great. Grab it if you can. I really don't think Kat will do all that much after this, really. I don't think she has the draw to bring people out to a concert. Obviously, Taylor does. I think Kelly Clarkson could have taken that song that Kat butchered and at least tried to do something with it...made it something worth listening to. Kat really, really messed that one up.
Ideas of how one would sell a business, non-MT. NM

Price that house to SELL and NOW!
You need cash flow and cannot afford to wait around for your big profit. I have also flipped houses. This is a prime example of exactly what happens when one thing goes awry in your plan. You need to be more prepared to weather a storm in the future, but for right now you need to unload that house. Best of luck to you. :-)
This s/b on the classified board, she's trying to sell it.

I have a book to sell if you are interested

I bought it a year ago thinking I was going to take the exam but then realized that I do not meet the requirements - that I should take the RMT exam.  Therefore, it is brand new and has never been used.  If you are interested, let me know.

It is so rare that people sell their used

IT software, and when I've seen it up for sale, the person selling usually wants $150 or even more for it.

I purchased mine new from Textware Solutions.  It just wasn't worth it to me to wait for someone to put one up for sale and you have to count on them to get the license transfer done, I think.  With the extra production I'm able to do with it, I figure the software paid for itself in a month.

I agree and never would I sell my client

This is why we must be careful with sending resumes with client info on it.  I leave my client info off - they only need to know specialty and how many years of experience, not the client's name.

I use my private e-mail sm
and receive all my messages from my TC through my private e-mail.  In fact, I never receive anything throught my I-mail, don't even hardly check it anymore.  Call your TC and ask her/him what to do.  This may not be the same across the board, as so much is not the same from office to office!
LOL in private, not seclusion :-) sm
like a different room in the house.
I would see about a private school.....

Your son sounds like a very bright young man... No offense to you, but can you honestly challenge him and teach him things you may not be proficient at yourself.  Foreign languages, advanced math, etc.  Even high school teachers only specialize in one subject.  Something to consider.

Private accounts

How do you go about getting private accounts?  Any MTs out there that have done this and are still doing it.  If so, how much can you charge per line for a private account that you obtained yourself.  I currently make 8 cents per line with an MTSO.  However, I have been hearing that if you have a private account with a doctors office you can actually charge a lot more, about 12 to 13 cents per line.

Any tips on doing this.  I am currently an Independent Contractor and would like to expand my horizons.  Thanks for any advice.

It's how I got my private accounts....sm

I had business cards made up and every week, one day only, I went and solicited another medical building filled with offices usually next to a hospital.  I brought only a couple of resumes (nobody asked me for one either) and within a month or 6 weeks, I scored 5 private mds.  It's really all about self-confidence and belief in yourself and your own abilities.

I'm still working for 4 private MDs all these years, one of the 5 went into *receivership*, a form of bankruptcy.

Best of luck, believe in yourself, go solicit yourself and your abilities and don't be afraid.  If it worked for me, it can work for you!!

I do agree - I have many private mds...nm

THANK YOU JAM for your private email....

very kind of you.  Please know that I do appreciate your help and the time you took to respond.

private accounts
anyone out there doing private accounts for docs who don't have to do operatives?  just trying to get some info as to what type of reports some may do when typing for own accounts.  I was thinking along the lines of internal medicine.  Thank you!
If you have private coverage on yourself, you would not--sm
need workers' compensation on yourself. your private insurance would cover anything happening to you. If you have employees, they may need it, but only if you offered them employee insurance benefits. JMO.
most private doctors...
I speak to say that they went to the bigger companies because they were assured TAT - however it is explained to them that the same people working for the Nationals are the same ones that would do it as an IC, I find that my clients came around. Sometimes common sense is not the easiest thing for a busy mind. They also like the idea of not paying the rates a national charges, knowing we do not make it - so drop the rate a penny and they get a break too. They wont pay us what they pay nationals because they do not feel we are the same thing - if we cut out the middle man for us, they want it cut out for them too.
Private accounts
I am curious to know how to go about getting private accounts?  I am challenged when it comes to how the work is transported back and forth.  What would be a reaonable expectation in terms of costs on my end?  All I have now is the computer, foot pedal and copier/scanner/fax.  What else might I need?  I live and Houston.  Our medical center is top-notch and there are many, many hospitals, medical organizations and clinics to choose from.  Any advice?
private clients
It is refreshing to see normal expected amounts given to other MT. So often I see "I would not expect less than 10.00 per page and such high line counts" I believe the misconception by many is that you can make a bundle with little effort given some of the "I won't do this" attitudes. When looking for your own private accounts, think about who they are, where they are coming form and who did them before and assess accordingly. And keep in mind you may have to negotiate and get a bit less but your first client and everyone after is your own - which is a good thing
private accounts

I haqve been working on 2 private accounts, one of them I pick up tapes twice a wk and at the second pickup I pickup a check.  I have been with them for 9 years.  The other one I started last year and they send me the doctors notes by mail and I overnight it and they pay me through the mail.  They both pay me by the page.

I wish you the best.

I now have private insurance (sm)
Call and check into private insurance through Blue Shield.  I pay $294 a month with a $750 deductible.  Might save you some money meantime.  I also lost benefits through a MTSO due to lack of work and could not afford the COBRA.
I have private insurance (sm)

My premium is almost $300 a month with a high deductible.  My bills are now being rejected due to "pre-existing" and I believe it goes back 5 years, which is ridiculous.  What is a person supposed to do?  I'm willing to pay, but most of my pay is going for medical bills at this point.  I'm owing about $1500 and still need my mammogram and a screening colonoscopy.  I'm paying 20% after my insurance pays (if/when they pay) and it's adding up on top of my monthly medication costs, which is hundreds.  AARP rejected me because I have diabetes and hypertension, so I'm stuck with the high-deductible major medical, which is basically for anything catastrophic.  I don't want to put my house in jeopardy should I need to be hospitalized.  I worked for a company as an employee with healthcare benefits, but when the work is low and you don't make production, there goes your benefits.  It's like being between a rock and a hard place.  Good luck with your decision to drop your healthcare.  I'm paying an arm and a leg, but if I'm hospitalized at least I'll be covered.

Cardiology in PA, $17.00/hr, 6 weeks vacation, employer funded pension plan 10% of salary yearly, been here 15 years.... longing to be home and a full time MT.. good luck coming back to the jungle.
