It seems Spheris always has an ad running, and Cymed has been recruiting pretty heavily, too, along with Transcend. I have no idea if they are good places to work, and no doubt the pay is not so hot, or they would not have to advertise so much, but it might get you through the lean times until something better comes along.
I have over 30 years of experience as an MT, and received responses from only about 1/2 of the companies. I think they do get inundated with resumes/applications, and it does take awhile to sift through everything.
I love the company I am with, but the work has dried up over the last month or so, and I decided to get a second job so I wouldn't be homeless. I'm my sole support, so I get pretty nervous when no income is coming in. I am supposed to start with All-Type next week. They seem like a good company, but then again, I suppose they all do at the start.

i am a Cymed employee and love it. they treat the employees like people.
Cymed has LOW pay...do NOT pay for sm
spaces. The only good office, I think, was the Greensboro office, but they are now with the Hudson OH office.

I, on the other hand, do not like them. They would never give me another account when I worked for them and I would run out of work always. I would never go back and work for them. Transcend is much better.

Anyone working for Cymed that can tell me pros, cons, how many accounts they typically assign you, workload consistency, dictator quality, $$ potential, platform info, etc. Just tested w/ them and want to make sure I am getting into something positive here. Any info appreciated!!

When you get one job for one doctor, then have in your same queque one job from another doctor, then another job from another doctor, and they are almost under 1 minute in length, where else are they going to but overseas?? Yes, they do hire a good bit of U.S. transcriptionists, but I think we are being treated "substandardly" as far as jobs that we get, compared to those typing overseas for them. They really get the "cream of the crop," and also a lot of cherrypicking goes on with this company also. Seems some people just LOVE to look down their queque list, and send all those under 1 minute back, and I seem to be getting ALL of them!! I have approached them about it, and just got told that they NEVER allow cherrpicking, but guess what, THAT IS JUST NOT SO!!!

I have worked in transcription at home for over 8 years but for local practices. I am new to the national companies. I recently looked at the Cymed web site. Is this a good company? If not can someone please tell me where to start looking.

They are "eliminating" positions apparently to start their transfer offshore. Not a good company to work for by any means!!!
I know people who went to work for Cymed.....
The ones who say they are happy are the ones that don't really need a good pay check (older ladies who basically work for the insurance and a little extra cash). The others say that they can definitely tell a big difference with them not paying for spaces. They all say the people are nice though and offer good bonuses for extra work on the weekend at times. I've also heard that there are a lot of ESL doctors. I tested and was offered 9.5 cents with them, but everyone else I've heard says they were offered 8 to 8.5 cpl????

First time ever on this board and I've been an MT for 15 years. Worked for Healthscribe before Spheris took over (3 years) and now work for another company...but looking elsewhere. Can anyone give me their honest opinions about CyMed? I just tested with them, extremely easy to me, but I HATE changing job. However, job I have now....isn't paying the bills at all, waiting for work constantly, they are going to start off-shoring, etc. I'm single, have 1 child, lost a great job last year working by the hour (outside of home), but lost the job (don't even ask). I loved it, but got screwed. Now I'm just depressed, disgusted, broke, etc., and very stressed and worried. I'm going to have to get out of transcription or something. This just isn't working and I seriously would appreciate any good or bad.  I talked to a man there for over an hour yesterday. He was extremely patient and took his time explaining everything I asked.

For me it isn't an account type but a dictator type ...
and that would be oriental. An oriental dictator (hahaha, that kind of sounds funny...hahaha) is the most challenging for me.
No, you don't type directly into ES. You type in Word -
or whatever their platform is, just like you did with your tapes.
Then you do your line count in Word or the platform.
You should type them. I usually type them in parentheses following the diagnosis.

Shorthand users: Is there a way to type a word, use a slash and then type another word..sm
immediately following the slash and have it expand. For example if I needed to transcribe mass/sebaceous cyst, is there a way to use my expanded sebaceous cyst without having to back space after I type the slash mark? TIA

I applied with Spheris last week, had my interview on the phone and she never got back with me. I called her and left a message, she called back and said she did not have any work for me. It was posted in the Sunday Paper here, lots of work.
MQ vs Spheris
I was with Medquist before it became Medquist- It used to be Lanier. Then they were sold to Medquist. Then again they were sold to Spheris. I had nothing but problems with the two prior operations, but as Spheris- when I called and asked for a copy of my W2 because I had never received it... I was faxed a copy within 10 mins. /shrug Hope that helps.

If no one has access to our E-mail address and this is the only place that they could have gotten it, how did they as I just got an E-mail from them about applying for a job? So somehow our E-mail addresse are not protected as they say that they are on this board? Did anyone else receive it? I have never posted my resume, or applied for a job throught his board as I own my own MTSO. Makes me wonder about how safe our E-mail addresses are.

Hi, I am just about burned out on the Big "S". I have nearly 20 years experience MT'ing. Have worked for edix/spheris for several. I am finding that although I am leveled high I am consistly stuck with a lower level client. This, by manipulation of the Big "S" reduces my income.
Are there any companies at all who are decent to work for, who pay a flat - good - line rate? I AM SICK OF THE MANIPULATIONS.
Line count runs at 1100/day (it is probably a lot more,not sure because Spheris has a way of making it all their way)
I can go to work immediately. Cable, WinXP.

They have made it plain that they want to buy out MQ and say they are going after them. I applied to them but turned them down.
Healthscribe was heavy on outsourcing to India and they bought them out.

NO, not a newbie and quite an assumption on your behalf! Would just like to know where this original statement came from or was it a personal statement without any backing. Yes, know Spheris outsources but the assumption that they will go with all Indian MTs is far fetched and would really love to see your source on this. Think you are generalizing here.

Can someone tell me anything about how Spheris counts lines?
I've been working for them for a few months now, and I just cannot get my lines up. I've been told it's a 65-char line, including spaces, but I'm not so sure. I've been an MT for nearly 8 years and the least I do is 200/lph. Now, I'm fortunate to make 75/lph.
I also do IC work for someone at 8.5/cpl and never do less than 280/lph with them (and most of the time 300+). I wanted to work with Spheris as a back-up account (part-time), but it doesn't look like it's going to be worth my time, as I can get extra work most of the time from the other company.
I was sure I'd be doing better than this by now! Has anyone else had this experience with Spheris?

How is Spheris to work for? Flexibility? Pay? Benefits? Good workflow/steady accounts? Currently with MQ and it's been getting scary. Please give me any info! I'm really interested in health insurance benefits and cost for a family per month. Thanks MTs!
Well, Spheris does some of
Cleveland Clinic (OH) and Cleveland Clinic (FL) accounts. I, for one, have worked on both.
They do a percentage of each, what percentage I'm not sure of.

I worked for Spheris when it was Edix and it was awful. Their QA reports make you feel like a 5-year-old, and what consider mark as a "patient care" errors are ridiculous. Here's an example: The report repeatedly stated the patient had problems with RIGHT eye -- must've mentioned right eye 15 times. At the end of the report the patient was sent home with eye drops and because I typed something like "2 drops to the eye twice a day" and did not put RIGHT eye, I was cited for PATIENT CARE error. This happened all the time, I got fed up and quit!
