not symptoms of bipolar disorder
actually, that just sounds like most of the spoiled kids I've met - society won't treat them the way mom did so they're trying to push the buttons they used to push w/mom. (Did she die or wise up?).
My experience with bipolar...

...as a psych MT - Your friend's behavior seems consistent with the manic state of bipolar.  People who suffer from this often say things that do not make sense.

I also dated someone several years ago who suffered from bipolar.  I remember one time when he was carrying on a perfectly normal conversation with me, and then right in the middle, he told me that he worked for the FBI (he did not), that he was going to have his parents arrested for stealing his truck (he was driving it at the time), and many, many other unrelated things.  Another time when he was in a manic state, he was found wandering down the side of a road and had no idea how he got there.  Fortunately, things like that only happened to him when he did not take his meds.  When he consistently took lithium, he was fine.

I wish you and your friend the best.  As the other poster stated, it is very hard for the people who have bipolar, and I'm sure your friend will appreciate your support.

family or not....they are NOT UR friend....sm
and the life is all about choices......
Sending prayers for your friend and your family.
Praying for strength for you.
Tell that to my friend. They had a dog they treated as a member of their family. That is, until it a
Dogs need to be trained and need to know they're lowest in the pack. I tried telling my friend this, but she wouldn't listen and she continued to treat the dog as a member of the family instead of as a dog. And eventually that "member of their family" decided it didn't want any more competition for affection, and attacked their son. Thank God he survived, 92 stitches and some nasty scars tho. If you love your family and you love your dog, then TRAIN your dog. Don't treat him like an extra child.
Typing Family/Friend/Own Reports
How do you handle having to type a report for a close friend, family member or for yourself?  If you have independent contractors, do you allow them to type a report on a family member or themselves?
A friend of mine also had a bad experience with H&R Block

Getting IC work with family practice experience

I have 15 years of experience at home transcribing for family practice and currently work part-time at home as an IC.  I would like to keep the account I have but perhaps add another to bump up my hours a bit.  Almost every job I see posted requires acute care experience.  Does anyone have input as to whether it is possible to obtain work without the acute care experience?  I love the work I have done.  Yes, it is probably easier than ESL or acute care but it does require attention to detail and accuracy just like everything else.

Please advise what someone in my position should do.  I am sure these jobs do not appreciate people posting without the experience listed so I have not done so.

My current work is local and is on tapes but I am willing to learn a new system or possibly obtain different equipment.  Any input will be appreciated!  Thanks in advance.

When transcribing "command" or "imperative" form, use verb form or "follow up"
For a long time I would become confused by "discharge instructions" type followup/follow up usage ...

Yes, the patient was to follow up with his doctor ... but was also to make a follow up appointment ...

In my experience, certainly your QA may vary and/or be inconsistent all-on-its-own ... but most of these truncated forms, fit into what I was taught was called "imperative case" and follow up is being used as a VERB ...

[[[ even though there is a reasonable argument to be made that "followup with primary care physician in 2 weeks" refers to an "appointment" which is a noun. ]]]

You can figure out the prevailing "rule of thumb" for your QA ...

Not having to think it through --- priceless.

It is not a plural form. It is a possessive form. SM
The man's name was Metzenbaum and he devised this particular instrument.  The correct spelling would be Metzenbaum's.  WITH THE APOSTROPHE.  AAMT BOS is full of crap.
Have a daughter with bipolar.
She has racing thoughts and says things not connected to the conversation like your friend. She also has extreme mood swings. Usually bipolars go one way or the other, dysphoric or euphoric. No middle. When manicky, she will stay up for days without sleep, but when dysphoric will sleep for 16 straight hours a day. It can be a very debilitating illness.
I think my team leader is bipolar.

She's all sunshine and happiness one day with kind words of praise.  The next day, she's sending out shrieking emails contradicting what she said the day before.

Question for psych MTs regarding bipolar

I have a friend that I've only known for about a year.  We get together a lot because our kids are the same age, go to the movies on the weekend, etc.  She's a lot of fun, well-educated, has a great career, and is a very sweet, wonderful mother.

However, about a month ago, she confided in me that she is bipolar, which completely took me by surprise.  I would have never suspected that she has any mental health issues.  In the last few weeks, she has said that she feels like she needs a different medication and that she feels a little off balance, although I haven't up until now seen any outward signs of that.

In the last few days, there have been a few times that she has said things that completely, totally do not make any sense.  Tonight I called her to see if she wanted to go for pizza with the kids this weekend, and her response was, "Helium will be on the test."  I asked her to repeat that, and she said, "I'm not making sense again, am I?"  Then she said she had to go and hung up.  I just sat there for a moment completely dumbfounded not even knowing what to make of what just had happened.

I don't have any clue about bipolar behavior and what that entails.  Is this what happens with bipolar people?  I'm really worried about her and would like to help her, but I haven't got a clue about what to do or who to ask.

anxiety disorder
I'm feeling I have this, though have never been clinically diagnosed.  I get very uncomfortable in large crowds and much prefer being in a setting with just one or two people or even being alone.  I have gotten worse as I've gotten older.  Then again, I really seem to ENJOY my solitude so I'm not certain it's a bad thing completely.
Anyone have social anxiety disorder?

Sleep disorder transcription
Does anyone know of any companies that do strictly sleep disorder transcription, that are looking for IC's?

How about your husband tells the friend to tell his female friend to lose the #?

Passive Aggressive Personality Disorder...

You just described my ex, and he has passive aggressive personality disorder and oppositional defiant disorder.

Here's a description:  http://www.toad.net/%7Earcturus/dd/papd.htm.

I would also recommend reading "Why Does He Do That?  Inside The Minds of Angry and Controlling Men" by Lundy Bancroft.  You can buy it at Barnes and Noble and amazon.com.

My ex loves to annoy people for the fun of it.  The only way you can get him to do anything is to tell him not to do it.  And, of course, he is extremely controlling.  It is just my opinion, but I think that people with these types of personality problems just shouldn't be married to anyone.  Every time my ex gets a new girlfriend, I really just want to give the poor girl a hug.  If your husband has this type of personality, you really should divorce him.  Life is just too short to spend it with someone who makes everyone around them miserable.

They say that this is the most difficult personality disorder to live with..

My therapist said that of all the personality disorders/mental illnesses, this is the one that is the most difficult to live with, and I think that it even mentions that in the diagnostic criteria.  Once my ex was diagnosed, a huge weight lifted off of me, and I no longer felt so much anger and frustration.  I can't tell you how good it feels AFTER you divorce someone like this.  Suddenly the world just seems wonderful when you don't have to deal with them anymore.

Good grief...multiple personality disorder???

sounds like post-traumatic stress disorder!

may be oppositional-defiant disorder? Perhaps a visit to your pediatrician would help. Also

"Oppositional defiant disorder is a recurrent pattern of negativistic, disobedient, hostile, defiant behavior toward authority figures without serious violations of the basic rights of others. Such children exhibit persistent stubbornness and argumentativeness, persistent testing of limits, an unwillingness to give in or negotiate and a refusal to accept blame for misdeeds. This behavior is evident at home but may not be manifested elsewhere. These children and adolescents do not see themselves as defiant; instead, they feel they are responding to unreasonable demands or situations. This disorder is usually evident before 8 years of age and is more common in males (until puberty, when male-female rates are equal).  From Vacarolis's Foundations of Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing...

In her case, I'm guessing personality or mental disorder. After all, they are pretty common. NM

A friend of a friend is taking CareerStep - sm
she is under the misguided idea that she will be making very good $ upon completing the course (a friend of hers supposedly makes $55K a year). I told her no way, at least not starting out and not unless all the factors click together, i.e. good typing speed, good pay (not for a newbie), good dictators (unlikely) and dedication to working hard. I told her what I make after 5 years (16K) but that is PT and I have the potential to double that if I would push myself, not procrastinate so much (I web surf way too much) and work more than I already do. I am not a fast typist but am good at what I do. I will be surprised if she follows though. She told me she'd call me when she finished the course, I just hope she is ready for reality.
family is family wheter 3 or 8 sm
i live in MA and $1200-$1400 a month is what good health insurance costs, ie $20-$40 copays.  it was just passed into law that if you live in MA you have to have medical insurance so without being self-employed, you can go right to BCBS etc and get a plan directly from the major health insurace companies, but for a family plan and a decent income bracket, forget it.  the prices are outragous.  right now my husband pays $120 a week for family plan and this is after his employer pays 30% of the total cost.  we have $20 copays, but we have a $2000 individual deductable per year with a $4000 family deductible cap.  so when my daughther needed her tonsils out, $2000 and when my son broke his arm, $2000.  someone on this board has to be able to tell you what they pay for insurance through their company as an employee.  good luck.
Experience on top, current experience first. Education second. Leave out ALL fluff.
Recruiters don't need your life story. They need to know if you can do the job. If you want, put your current employer, then state "I have 20 years in the profession doing....." Keep it simple; keep it clean. If you want to go into more detail, do it during the interview. A HUGE red flag is to see that you've worked for 10 different companies, for months at a time. I know that someone who has worked for the same company for 2 years or more is going to have some degree of loyalty and will work through issues rather than cut and run.
Form

I got the form and started to fill it out. Where do I get another one? There was a phone number and web address on the information but I'm trying to search and can't find anything. Help hugs

The new tax form

so as IC/SE anD EMP..which form did you use..
I was SE for most of the year and employee for 2 different companies last 2 months of year..I also am now part-time emp. with a co. and trying to start up my own business which I started up in Dec. and want to take deductions for equipment purchased for that business. Oh my head is hurting.
Is this form something I can...
request to fill out on my own, or is it usually requested by the IRS?  Will the company I contract through know that I have requested this form?  I, too, am an IC who is treated like an employee.  I have worked a set schedule (days and hours), including nights and both weekend days, for a long time with little or no flexibility.  The pay is good, though.  TIA
Form your own.
I love escription...won't work on anything else.
There has always been some form of
QA, don't know that there was ever an official start. Most employees in any business are evaluated on the quality of their work.
You don't need the form.
You don't really need the form.
continuous form
It probably means to just type the dictation and make new paragraphs as needed, but to just keep going down and make no headings unless specified.
I think that any form of indiscretion with someone
else would be considered being unfaithful to your spouse. That includes talking on the phone or in person when your spouse is not aware of it, holding hands, kissing, or "going all the way." Anytime something is done with another person and we feel it necessary to keep it from our spouse, there's something going on that doesn't need to be. This, of course, is just my opinion, but I hope it helps.
Just tell yourself all of that is just food in a different form. lol sm
Seriously, though, just put in your contract you don't do toilets, the same as some don't do windows.  I bet there are people who would rather get other things done, and would be willing to do that themselves, especially if the price was just a tad bit lower.
form 8829
You said you use your den "almost" exclusively for business.  Almost doesn't count.  The room has to be used EXCLUSIVELY for business in order to be able to take business use of home.
would you say its the same as "paragraph form"?
thanks
why form "friendships" - probably so that the gov...
can dump more money into the pockets of the Indians! Did you know that the government will give out $60,000 loans or aid to help Indians/Pakistanians help open up a business in this country!! I couldn't get a business loan for $25,000 and I'm from this country!! Born and raised!! There was a grocery store in our town that was for sale and no one in town could afford to buy or get a loan for it, then out of nowhere, this Indian family moves to town (lily white community, by the way) and bought the store. They told the store patrons that the government gave them the money to open up a business. Can you believe that???!!!

No form needed.....
Just put your complaint in writing and send by fax, mail or hand deliver to the Patient Care Representative at the hospital.

The PC rep at the hospital I work for investigates all complaints from beginning to end and will make a follow-up call back to the patient or patient family regarding the issue if further comment is wanted.

I've typed these reports for admin and can be very interesting to say the least.

it is a form of media ...
for healthcare professionals.  It has a circulation.  It is readily available in schools.  All media matters because what is in the media influences the way people think.  I think it gives a negative view of us to those who call the shots over us who read it.  That's why I think it matters.
Would you capitalize the name of a form the doc's use?

20s and 30s is the correct form. SM

BOS says:

"Add s without an apostrophe to form the plural of multiple digit numbers, including years."

However, the BOS also says to spell out nonspecific numeric expressions, i.e.

"She described hundreds of symptoms. (Not 100s)"

So I don't know what to tell you to do.  You decide and go with God.

Well on the form in the book from DMV
Well on the form in the book from the DMV it is listed and the doctor is required to check. By the way my daugther has a lady doctor, not a man.
We all need to JUST SAY NO to VR in any way, shape, or form
Having to edit some of this garbage is more time consuming than typing the whole report not to mention the looking stuff up and verification of names, etc.  It's all a big RIP-OFF.

I have a test for a position and it says to do it in continuous note form, does that mean that they should be all in one document in Word or am I completely wrong on that?  Someone please help soon!  Thanks!

Are you testing for MT group? I took the test and just typed the patients one after another. I kept spaces between the patients with the patient's name.
