I'm tired of suddenly getting email messages from people I email all the time announcing that they have a new process for ME to go through so that I can be "approved" to send email messages to them.
I got this notification after sending an email to a short list of friends and relatives. It wanted me to verify who I was and why I was sending mail to them and verify the numbers I was seeing on the screen and verify my name and my email address.
Maybe it seems trivial but I think it is ridiculous. What's next? Will we have to get "approval" to send something in the mail?
I understand blocking spam but really now, these people know who I am. I maintain MY list of people, why can't they?

I do think that if you can't get through even 1 day without sending 1 report, something is wrong--maybe you don't have the "ear" to do the harder dictators.

Help, has anyone heard of or dealt with Deborah's Touch
Has anyone heard of Deborah's Touch in Arizona? I bought her course and finished it but cannot get her to okay my homework so I can test, and get a completion certificate. Has anyone been able to get results from this agency? Very frustrating and not what I was told when I paid for the course! Any ideas or guidance?

Yes, been throught it several times. I just ignore them - they will stop calling you, but it takes awhile. Since you did answer them once, that just encourages them to call back.
They are probably trying to sell you something - the reaon no one answered when you picked up that time is because they have those calls on a delay - the computer dials it and will hang up if it gets voice mail or an answering machine, but if they get a human voice, the computer goes on hold and it can take a few seconds or longer for a human to get on.
I don't answer any calls that come from "private line." If they don't want to identify themselves, I don't need to talk to them.

how about when the poor doc is trying to dictate and there is loud noise in the background almost overriding his/her voice? Like laughing, chatting, etc. I go bonkers with that and don't know how the dictator can concentrate. Is there no other phone to use?? Or maybe...hello...a little common courtesy from bystanders?

to have to type out a complete word or phrase. So, no, I have no classes of words found in a medical report that I don't make abbreviations for.
Instead, I long ago decided to develop more patterns and switch to using longer abbreviations so that literally millions of more abbreviations would be possible.
Like you, I've always varied from my abbreviation rules when it feels right, but I do it less now with over 50K abbreviations in storage. In fact, I've converted many of my old standards to longer rule-dictated forms as that's just started working better for me, i.e., engage finger memory, disengage thought.
Regarding groups of words, I use symbol keys before and after abbreviations to set up abbreviation "groups." Like a / indicates a capped form, including city and hospital names. Physician names are a / followed by a letter indicating the account (so I can delete them all if I don't work on it any more), followed by first four of surname, then only if needed first 1 of first name. Sounds long, but the right name and title pop up every time per rule.
For others trying to decide how to develop more expansions: for me umbilical hernia is a simple umbhe, umbilical herniation umbhj. Longer than my old umh, but still far shorter than typing dozens of them out, and I get to have every type of hernia there is abbreviated, plus all the other terms that would be vying for the same shorter forms.
As many as possible of the words between the medical terms are abbreviated, like she, could, not, remember, whether, she, took, her, medicine, as, scheduled, or, not: k cdn (or kcdn) reb whr k tok u mec as skd (or askd) o nt.
The patient continues to is tpcust and continued to is tpcudt, but the patient continued feeling is tpcdfg and the patient continued feeling short of breath is tpcdfsob. The patient continued short of breath is tpcdsob. She continued to be short of breath is kcdtbsob. And on and on and on.
The longer the phrase the fewer "extra" letters are usually needed--most complete sentences are their first letters only. It not only works, it works very well and takes a surprisingly short time to learn to knock the strings of letters out without thinking.

Fast talkers, low talkers - even worse when they do both. Docs who clear their nose or throat, mumblers, eating while recording, cell phone/pager right next to recorder that practically blows my ears out, and docs who jump all over the place and change their sentences around so I have to decide if it is a new sentence or if I need to delete what I already typed and end up typing twice as many words but only getting paid for half of them.
I recently had one doctor who was wonderful with her dictation and at the end she told me to have a great weekend! Too bad I've never had any reports from her again. Lately they just stick me with the kinds of docs in the first paragraph.

that 3 missed appointments without 24 hour notice qualifies for termination of services. It's ridiculous, but it's the norm.
My daughter struggled to get twin babies to the pediatrician on time, was 10 minutes late twice, and called 3 hours before an appointment when they both woke up sick one time. She was "booted" from the practice for "failure to establish a doctor patient relationship."
Funny thing was, she never even met the doctor. The doctor was always either out on an emergency or running late. The babies were never seen by anyone besides the PA. My daughter was intimidated into basically, "They see the PA or they won't be seen type of deal."
My son was "booted" by his PCP because his account had an outstanding balance of $36.00. I explained to them that my husband had recently lost his job. They gave me 3 weeks and then booted him. (After insurance paid huge amounts of money for our son and the rest of us, who were not booted because we didn't have a balance).
It's all about money lately for the most part. I don't believe that the doctor feels he could make more money off a different patient, it's just that if there is not enough time to book another patient, the docs won't have enough to buy a new tire for their Mercedes.
This is so daggone irritating!! I have been
receiving phone calls from unknown name and number for about two weeks now. They were calling three times a day (tid-lol). I finally answered hoping to let them know that it was NOT appreciated the amount of calls I was receiving. No one responded to my hello. I then told them not to call again. They did. Now the calls are up to 4-5 times a day. I have contacted my phone company about finding out who this moron is, but have not heard yet. Has anyone gone through this and, if so, what did you do that got results? TIA.

hey... irritating maybe, but this is the PRICE for keeping American jobs
why are we whining about this? We keep talking about our jobs being outsourced, well guess what... this is the same thing. We have to pay a higher price to speak to an American. That sucks and sounds ridiculous but the fact remains American workers demand more money, just as we as MT's do over people in India. I don't have a problem with it, maybe cause I see it from their side. I for one cant STAND talking to people from another country and honestly NEVER get the problem fixed with them. It sucks to pay more, but it is worth it, for them and for us.

He later said the correct patient's name and I SWEAR to this day I made the changes but somehow the report when through without the correct patient and changes made. I still remember that incident.

I have lectured her. She knows we are against it. My husband and I do not drink at all. What I was saying is she can sit here and tell me she is not drinking which she has said she does not but I know better. I know every kid drinks at collegea and no I don't like it. I know her room mate drinks and my daughter has told me. There is nothing I can do about it if she is at college 100 miles away. She clains she does not drink. She has been told she has to pay the consequences if something happens. I tell her not to drink but if she does it won't be my fault because she should know better. I can lecture her at home by not allowing it in my home. I know a few of her home friends drink and I have told her if the parents ask me if it is so I will not lie. Obviously you don't have teenagers. Also Natalie's parents could have lectured her to about drinking but obviously she did it anyway.

I've been with these companies 3-1/2 and 2-1/2 years.
Do you know which accounts at your company are large or have a lot of overtime? I would ask to be put onto a super large hospital account as a primary. Being a large hospital account and/or overtime requirements will tell you how much work is usually there.
I have been very fortunate on my accounts but I asked for large hospital accounts up front for that very reason....????

I'm wondering what's wrong with me too. I just did 50 exams and realized I put the date of service 8-15-04 on all of them. Fessed up when I realized. I try to work when I don't feel well and this is what happens. Darn.

I'm a supporter of MQ; I don't agree with all they have done or will do but in general I've had a good relationship with them. It is difficult for me to hear some of the nastiness from complainers. It's one thing to state clearly and plainly what a problem is, it is another to do the name-calling, etc. Both sides are doing it now. It's sad.
The BEST plan of action for those who are upset with MQ, though, is to do what another poster suggested in an above thread --- go to the Employee Complaint Form on QNet and fill it out. Swamp them with those complaints. Have them swamped with complaints.
No changes can come about if MQ isn't directly contacted about the complaints.
I hope everyone can take a breather, relax, and allow each others opinions but be more respectful in their statements.

Don't take this the wrong way, but
you're getting yourself all worked up over something you don't even know to be true. Shhhh, deep breaths. No worries. Everything will work out in the end. Even if MQ eliminates SE, what's the worst thing that could happen? So you go job hunting or switch to employee status. There are tons of IC and SE jobs out there with companies that are way better than MQ. I can relate, though. I've got three kids and a mortgage. Honestly, there are so many MT jobs out there that you can quit a job one day and start working again the next day for another. I understand that you have security and longevity with MQ, and the unknown is a scary thing. However, you need to stop worrying and imagining the worst. You're a good worker, right? Do you think they're just going to dump you with no notice? Why don't you talk to your supervisor? Ask her straight out what's going to happen. You are allowed to know how these new changes are going to affect you. In the meantime, stop catastrophizing and make yourself a nice cup of tea. It'll be all right.

I, also used manual typewriters. I am 53 years old, knew how to keyboard Qwerty, and switched within the last 2 years to Dvorak.
Qwerty is not the "correct" keyboard, just the more common one. Actually, the Dvorak keyboard layout is older than Qwerty. Qwerty was developed specifically to slow down typists as there was a problem with the keys sticking together on the old manual typewriters because the typists would be able to go too fast using Dvorak keyboards. Qwerty was specifically developed to slow down typists and keep those keys from getting all clogged up. Then qwerty became the 'standard' because everyone was using it.
The world record speed typist, Barbara Blackburn uses the Dvorak keyboard. It reduces hand movement by about 10 times. All the vowels and most common consonants are on the home row. When I decided to become a medical transcriptionist, I decided to switch to Dvorak "'cause I ain't no spring chicken" and want to do all I can to make these old fingers last longer!!!
I actually am using the Dell keyboard that came with my computer because my Dvorak keyboard would not interphase with Windows XP. I have the keys memorized, and I simply changed the 'keyboard language' in my computer settings to Dvorak. It is hilarious when someone else tries to type on my keyboard using qwerty because what they type comes out jibberish!

Don't get me wrong...
I think that is a rotten thing for an employer to do, but it is the apparent policy that once an employee exhausts all available sick time and vacation time, they need to return to work before missing an entire pay period. If that makes sense. Believe me, I didn't like having to leave my newborn for that reason. I know she could have been in a different situation, but I'm just making the point that the same thing could have happened somewhere else. My experience was actually with a hospital.

saying that "there are 2 different theories, one is evolution and the other is intelligent designed, generally held by religious people." Just as you can can teach ABOUT a religion, you can tell kids what the theories ARE. Kids learn about the history and beginnings and practices of religion all the time in history class. I see no harm in presenting ID in that context. As for evolution versus creation...I've got it all figured out and put to bed in my own mind, which is what I tell my kids.... Evolution IS God's creation. Very simple, very logical, and mutually respectful of both sides.

on this issue. Most of us have conformed to the way we have been told to type it over the years. In 13+yrs of typing radiology, I have just in the last year only come across a facility that has asked me to type "disk" in reference to the spine. All others have been adamant about seeing "disc" on their reports.
Noone can "win" this argument...it's a matter of choice.

I had the same experience with Sandy, SouthScribe, Georgia. I helped him out on a project until he got someone else. He lied about sending out my check too (even gave the check # and amount he supposedly sent out to me when I called about it!). He never paid me, even though I reported him to the BBB. I would suggest to you to report too; even if you don't get your check (I hope you do), it is on record, and the next person is not as likely to get ripped off.

I had a perfectly normal childhood, no one molested me or mentioned the word homosexual to me - I just knew at age 5 that I was attracted to men. Sorry if this seems so hard to accept but it is reality. I had no idea about homosexuality whatsoever - just knew even at 5 that I had feelings for my own sex. But don't take it from me, after all I AM the gay one who has the experience. Better to listen to all these kind folks who aren't but think they know everything there is to know about being gay. There is no reasoning with people like you so I gave up many, many years ago. Have a great day!

I came out of MT school (community college) ready to work - opened up my own business and have been busy, busy, busy and making $$$, $$$, $$$ ever since. It depends on one's background and their education, both in and out of MT, so don't say no one can do this fresh out of school. MT's not brain surgery, you know.
