EMR is part of a big government push for decreasing errors in healthcare..sm
the newer generation of doctors is very comfortable with point and click. They do their banking by internet, etc. As the older docs retire, there will be less and less actual dictation. Some fields don't transfer readily to EMR, for example, the ER doesn't like it because you "can't tell the story" with a point and click. Another big advantage of the EMR is you can search the data. When Celebrex and other Cox-2 inihibitors were pulled off the market, all the EMR docs had to do was search the records for a match and they could then call all patients on these drugs to get them in and explain what was going on. They also will check for drug reactions within prescriptions, etc. That's why the government is pushing for EMR. Not to mention it will help build that insurance data base...I'm sure their lobbyists are pushing hard for that too.
I agree. MTIA is not a government organization. Credentialing comes from state government and
sometimes at the federal level. This mandatory credentialing is ludicrous and a scheme to make money, in my humble opinion.
I have to agree with the other poster, if not having CMT after my name after 25 years of experience prevents me from being employable, I have a very good lawyer who will take up my cause!!!
The government giveth, and the government taketh away
Lori is correct...the SS does give the recipients a yearly raise. This year the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) was 3.3%. This sounds fine and dandy until you take inconsideration the monthly premium for Medicare was raised by 3.1%.

I wish I could be on disability for something mental that is controlled with medication.
I'm just sorry I'm paying for people to stay home and not work while my husband and I have to work. It's bad enough that this man doesn't help you around the house, but he's sucking off the government (us taxpayers) while we support him. He can't do ANYTHING? Whatever...
Man, what a country.
my opinion, when doctors controlled the money rathe than the insurance
companies (government) there much more money to go around, and in my experience the doctors shared it. their BUSINESS MANAGERS in their offices (women) were tighter than rubber bands, and unwilling to pay anyone what they were worth, but the actual doctors I have worked for, whether in the hospital setting or in private practice (doing transcription) were extremely generous...
I worked for one who was fighting quite actively in an organization to give doctors back control over their patients, but in the end, the insurance companies won and that who is controlling our profession and driving it.
they always claimed the doctors were getting too much money, but at least they shared it. now with the insurance companies controlling the money, who knows who gets it.
think about it...every hospital I know or have worked for, made major cuts in the last decade, many completing eliminating ancillary departments entirely, letting go full-time employees.
so, where did all that money go they saved? it certainly did not get passed-on to the patients, and even nurses are cut back.
seems to me the government (insurance companies) and administration is getting it.
before capitation came along, hospitals were in the business of healing the sick, and taking care of the POOR. now they are just businesses, like Walmart.
those of us in our 40s and 50s, it has been sad to see the decline in the way it used to be...I was always in awe when I would walk into the hospital to work in Med Records/Transcription. such a sense of amazement and 'security' within the walls...
the halls used to be bustling and FULL of doctors, students, nurses, office people....when I left a few years ago, the halls were silent and somehow kind of creepy. it saddened me a great deal.
rather than attend to patients in a selfless way, everyone is treated as an annoyance, if they need too much care, or if something goes wrong they are not DRG'd for! not even doctors can get your illness covered, it is all in the hands of the insurance companies/govt.
you might as well have dollar bills laying in the beds.
Swiss Army Knife, steak dinner, anything remote controlled
maybe a toy remote control car or a new universal remote?
Does anyone know how to go about applying for a government job?

What I expect from my government
When a mandatory evacuation is ordered I expect to be able to get on the hurricane evacuation routes and have enough gas available to get moving. Is this reality........NO.
As far as moving somewhere else, FL has a way of putting a grip on you. Low wages to the point you are stuck literally. I haven't been out of this state in over 7 years due to lack of funds.
Government jobs...
MTs are listed under "medical data technician." Also, the military sometimes uses placement agencies for MT jobs.
Government contracts
Has anyone out there heard or looked into government contracts transcribing for VA hospitals - a friend called me today with this proposition - she said there were two places to look for work - one is called rsp.com and the other is fedbizops.com. She put in a bid for a radiology account with 600,000 lines a month and said that she thought that would take two people. I'm just trying to find out if this is legit or not. I'm not wanting any extra work for myself, but this just sounds too good to be true.
Government disability and doing MT
Does anyone here collect government disability and also work part time doing MT? I have a severe immune disorder and was considering filing for permanent disability. Anyone know if you are allowed to work part time?
Including, unfortunately, our government. nm

What we CAN do is vote for changes in our government
And then we have to keep a very, very close eye on them and scrutinize every move they make. We have to become more knowledgeable and involved in how our political & judicial systems work.

And the more people want from the government -- the more you pay
Someone has to pay for all the government programs and it is us. Just like that $600 we will get, who do you think will be paying for it -- us working people. Those with the tax credits, child credits that pay no taxes just want more. We the people support the government and the more the government gives the more we keep giving the government. I use all my deductions I can give. If I think I am paying too much to government, I find another dedution, my self retirement, my anything other than the government.
I agree with you completely. It is our government that ALLOWS this
to happen though. My point exactly. Spend money overhauling the system. Make people accoutable for their actions. That opens up money for people who really need it. Also, people here that do not pay taxes and are not here legally, give them the boot.

Some government drone is going to have a heyday
going through my computer (not!).
While I certainly don't support Google doing this (if, indeed, they are), it's kinda like the Patriot Act. If people have something to hide, they are going to fight this tooth and nail. If they don't have anything to hide, well, so what? If some poor government drone wants to see the dress measurements of every kid in my dance classes--enjoy! Want a list of what I want to see in Kauai--have at it!
Call me naive, call me stupid, but if surveillance of what I do means that people who ARE doing bad things are caught and kept from negatively influencing your loved ones (not to mention mine), I'm all for it. I would suspect that said drones would be targeting very specific ISPs, if this is all true, rather than wanting to see what the secret ingredient is in your great aunt Sally's family-favorite beef stew recipe.
So, with that said, I am going to continue to enjoy Google's presence on my desktop.
All you fans of the government must be from one o' them RED states..........
If you have such a productive life, why do you even care about MT, let alone spend time posting on an MT forum?
Those were put in place by the government for people who NEED them
You disgust me. You're part of what's wrong with society today, my dear.
Take a good look in the mirror - Yep, the epitome of what's wrong with many people who do not NEED those programs but scheme and manipulate and wheedle their way into being 'entitled' to them.
Your post seriously sickens me, as does you having a child you obviously cannot afford to raise.
Yes, PLEASE quit the MT field. I don't want my profession associated with system-sucking swindlers.
SPI Healthcare
Has anyone worked for SPI Healthcare Documentation? If so any type of feedback would be extremely helpful.
TIA
SPI Healthcare
They outsource to the Phillippines - they took over a small company in my hometown and basically destroyed it. Other than that, I don't know a lot, since I quit before the takeover.
SPI Healthcare
Nice company to work for. I have no complaints at all.
Healthcare........
When healthcare becomes govt controlled, as in Canada, there is no incentive for people to want to become doctors; therefore, you end up with a doctor shortage, a severe shortage, and thus, longer waiting times... weeks, weeks, and months and months... just for a regular procedure. You better be dying if you want it sooner and then I wouldn't hold my breath.
That is what Obama wants to do to this country, only he tries to disguise it. ANyone with half a brain knows if the govt offers "cheaper" insurance, why in the world would anyone want to pay more? Companies will stop offering insurance to their employees cause they know the "almight government" will give it to them for free.... Obama knows this too!!! And when they do, you have NO incentive for physicians because they will not make money, extremely loaded down with patients....underpaid, overworked, less and less in the profession, and then WE, the citizens of a country where the private sector is supposed to run our country, NOT THE GOVERNMENT, will be another Canada or European country....take your pick!
It's pretty sad when European countries are telling the Obama administration NOT to go down this path... they have socialized medicine, it AIN'T working, and now they are looking are ways to get it back to private insurers.... too bad Obama's ego won't listen!!!
He's gonna save us from ourselves you know!!

why doesn't the us let the aruban government come in and search for the
murders in the idaho case? how about why not the aruban government decide if the sexual predators that our legal system lets out decide whether they should be left to go out and kill some other child or left in prison. why did it take so long to arrest scott peterson. why didn't we let the aruban government come in and arrest him immediately and question him.
NOW for the undereducated, a team of US people from Texas are in Aruba searching for Natalee and FBI has had advisors on board in Aruba.
Another thing, people expect the government
to pick up the pieces for them, and everyone is concerned about this. Do people not care that we are paying for people who should not be here in the first place. I am paying for free school, health care, welfare for the Hispanic family, who are very nice, next door to me. All are illegal. They bought their house with cash. They have 4 cars. Their kid goes to free preschool because he is automatically in because he speaks Spanish. I take my daughter 30 minutes out to a high school because I cannot afford anything else. How is this fair? Why are more people not standing up and saying this is not right. We pay the money, we SHOULD be entitled to help, whether you or anyone else thinks they deserve it or not, whether that girl had a baby out of wedlock. It is not as big an issue as the billions of people we are supporting that are not putting a dime back into the system. What is people's problem? I am all for people who come here legally, go to work and contribute back to society. At least the ones having babies out of wedlock are at some point paying taxes and/or their family is.
Government retirement program has changed.
It is now the same as Medicare, with a 401K added.
Civil Service/Government MT Jobs?
Hi all, I am wondering if any of us work as an MT for any government agencies, V.A. hospitals, military bases, etc. And if so, how is the pay rate. Is the hiring process difficulty. THANKS!
I am going broke, looking for a more lucrative 2008.
Soon it will be the government, Universal Health Care, nm

How's your healthcare plan going?
Hello management at Medquist. How did it feel having your nuts cut off with the new healthcare plan. Medquist sucks! Face it you'll be out of a job within 6 months. The cuts they have made you will soon be next.
Nice place to work. Now that's funny....
BITE ME MEDQUIST
best in the world? NOT - not in healthcare...
like MM or not, you should open your brain to this flick - even FOX NEWS (who hates MM) loved this movie, as did the current president, GWB............care to move forward in your life a tad?
As with everything else in healthcare, the downslide of MT
u
It looks like the healthcare one is in the lead, but - sm
at least it's a topic that is another one that is related to many of us, since only a certain percentage of US MT's have health insurance at all. And often what we DO have offers inferior care by disallowing care & meds that WORK, and only paying for the absolute minimum, even if it causes the pt. to eventually become sicker and then need LOTS of medical care, even hospitalization. We're getting nickled-and-dimed to death from every angle, and yet look at the high old life the big-shots at the hospitals, HMO's, and insurance companies get to live. IS there even a Middle-Class in America anymore? If so, I sure don't know any of them. There are either the Super-Rich, or us - the Working Poor.
does anybody wonder if we get universal healthcare
in the coming years that we will see a quick drop in ESL dictators? I personally know a doctor from Canada that came to the US to work because (she says) doctors make next to nothing there. I suspect that is why the dictators from Spanish-speaking countries come here too, though I have no insight at all into thier medical practices/insurance/laws/fees there. I just wondered if healthcare fees ever came under strict government guidelines, i.e., not charging $4 for a Tylenol, if we would see a decrease in our difficult dictators....Thoughts?
Healthcare or computer...
Those are the 2 things that are going to be around forever. My dad got his Associate's degree at the age of 62. He is now working for the college he graduated from in the IT department and working on his Bachelor's so he can teach there too. My point, it is never too late. Oh, and as far as competing with the youngsters, employers like maturity, that's my opinion. I worked at the hospital in the ER for 6 years before doing transcription and I make more now. So remember, sometimes the pay is not much different w/o a degree.
healthcare in europe
I forgot to mention that I have done some research on healthcare in Poland and don't come up with much, other than one must have proof of insurance upon entrance into the country. My doctors also don't know anything about healthcare in Poland when I ask them.
Healthcare in Europe
I lived in England until the age of 25. This is how it works there (don't know if Poland runs their healthcare the same way but likely).
Everyone pays for their healthcare at no cost ever via their taxes. Everyone has a National Health insurance ID number. Every form of healthcare is free, including medical, dental and podiatry. If you want private healthcare, you can purchase it. This system works if you don't mind paying higher taxes. It is six of one and half a dozen of the other.
If your medical problem needs urgent attention, then it will be taken care of; if not, then you wait. The doctor, of course, determines your needs.
Hope this info helps!
Am I willing to accept the US government outsources my tax return? Are you nutz?
What the bleep do you expect US citizens to do? Overthrow the government? It's the friggin LAW the politicians made.
Regarding identity theft - ANYBODY can steal your identity. It doesn't have to be someone overseas. Welcome to the real world.
Lost job due to offshore? Government program assistance
found this information in my husband's COBRA package. He is in the machining industry which has lost a lot of work to China. This program will help support during retraining and give a tax credit for health insurance premiums. Worth checking out. Don't be put off by how "complicated" the form is. Just do it one step at a time and call some of the numbers for help if need be.
Running a government women's health program has nothing to do with
The ability to make assessments WITH verbal input (women DO have the ability to communicate) is VERY necessary.
Maybe the former head of FEMA was a vet too. That would explain a lot.
Hate to disappoint you but the government doesn't care about you.
Where do people get the idea that our government wants to know what is on your computer or who you talk to on the phone. That is soooo stupid. READ, study, investigate it for yourself...not someone elses interpretation.( Patriot Act). It is NOT used for tracking US individuals willy nilly. It is specifically geared toward foreign suspects involving only very specific US contacts/colleagues/persons of interest.
It was started under Clinton and Bush has taken it one step further by daily reports to the cabinet!!!! Nothing more nothing less. Take a trip through our recent history and find the truth yourself instead of becoming part of the media system in spreading untruths and hysterics. It is not new ....only more open.
You're supposed to go back to school because of this government???
Maybe you should go back to school because you have higher expectations for yourself instead of blaming the government for the result of your own life choices.
Try assuming some responsibility and try making your life better on your own without blaming someone else.
Such a defeated attitude! Is that the government's fault too?
The government isn't Santa Claus. No one is responsible for our success but ourselves.
Grow up.
It's called redistribution of wealth, government produces nothing, sm
it takes from producers and redistributes it, 65% of the federal budget is for entitlement programs.
Puhleez, what exactly is the government doing about illegals crossing the border?
Absolutely nothing. NOTHING! The government sanctions sending American jobs oversees, puting thousands of American workers on unemployment! So why should I or anyone else feel guilty about trying to get what we rightfully deserve?
As far as testing on the phone goes, doxie, you can be listening on an extension and write the answers down for your husband. Don't feel guilty. You're going to pay your taxes.
Or in the case of our government, a million wrongs don't make it right, but ...
doesn't stop Uncle Sam from wronging us on a daily basis. Look, the bottom line is I will do what I have to do to feed, clothe, and house my kids. I don't feel guilty about finding shortcuts around the enormous mountains the government puts in my way nor should Doxie. She's trying to take care of her grandkids so her kids can go to the middle east and serve their country and us all. A woman's gotta do what a woman's gotta do.
You can call me a thief. My conscience is clear. My kids are healthy, well-fed, and have a home. I give to charity, tithe to my church, and volunteer at the food pantry in my town. I give back when I can -- not to the government, but to my community!
I am not the only person in American who stives to pay as little taxes to the government as I can. The government cheats us all. Do two wrongs make a right? I'm not trying to make a right, I'm just trying to survive.
