I cooked for 15 people for 20 years for family and friends. Even though there was enough left over to feed 20 more people and sent care packages home with everyone, we still wound up with too many leftovers. After all, DH only likes to eat turkey one day a year.
He suggested to let everyone fend for themselves for once about 5 years ago. After all, the kids needed to start traditions for their own family.
I jumped at that idea and he now goes over the mountain to a great truck stop for turkey dinners and brings them home. Why? We like the peace and quiet, and I usually work half the day anyway.
We also started doing that for Christmas. We switched our gift giving day and family get together to Christmas Eve. The kids have too many other places to go on Christmas Day and it stressed them out too much. So we all gather in the garage where I serve steamed clams and other seafood that I cook on the coal stove up there. The DIL's bring dips, chips, etc. It's wonderful. We get to spend much more time with our 3 boys, DIL's, and grandchildren. Then Christmas Day is also peaceful....and I wind up working AGAIN But I love it this way.
