you set it up. What you claim depends on how you setup the account. You can claim $$ this year provided it is paid in by 4/15 and get taxed when you take out, or you can put in after taxes and not get taxed when taking out.

Any good ideas where to look. Job Bank and Resume bank not working.
I think they must be waiting for a tech for repairs.
great website for credit and credit cards, interest rates
great website
Has anyone used a credit counseling service to consolidate credit cards?
What was your experience? Was it worth it? Which ones are credible?
CREDIT, everyone is living on credit, and from what I see
with a rather, 'might as well, we have no future' kind of attitude.
our credit cards are maxed out, we are buying gas, food (which I swore I would never do, how stupid - all that interest for food, yuck!), paying bills, and we would not have survived without them. now they are maxed out, and we are not making one bit more than we were.
glad things must be going so well for you, but look around in your own neighborhood.
the gap is closing between rich and poor. like it is in somalia, for example.
call us doomsdayers, but I call it protecting our own interests.
why is it the only people who are supposed to care about themselves are the rich?
No credit card is a good credit card.
Just kidding. I'd suggest not using credit cards to pay debts. It'll only dig you in deeper. Look into a signature loan or putting a lien against a vehicle or house. Lower interest rate, pay off sooner.
Wow what bank
did your son use?
I recently had my debit card number stolen when I was visiting in Toronto. My bank's fraud department called me within a day of the fraudulent charges. They had already denied 2 of them, and the one that did go through I was refunded every dime of. I guess I have a pretty good bank! (Wells Fargo).
The cop that I talked to when I filed a report said that they have one guy who does nothing but take the fraud calls every day, that is how many there are now. One poor little old lady had her entire account cleaned out, and on top of that the people somehow managed to SELL her HOUSE out from under her. I don't know exactly how they did that but she was not able to get it back, she was pretty much SOL. I guess it makes good sense to check to see how your bank deals with fraud and what the policy is on giving you back your money.
Also his advice was to get a shredder, and the kind that shreds both ways, and he told me that he even blocked out his address on his car registration. He says he never has anything in his car that has any personal info like that on it. I thought that was interesting and did not even know that was okay to do. But I guess if a cop is doing it it must be!
just called the bank and
Sure it is SS that is late and not your bank? They have to
build deposit files and it may be the banking system having problems.
Just trying to help.
Since your a former bank manager- how can I get
my credit score up? My husband and I want to buy a house with no down payment and the lender said that we need to get our credit score up 18 points to do this. How? He mentioned paying our credit cards down to almost a zero balance. What else can we do? And how fast could we do it?
Resume Bank.

Hey former bank manager, what
does the "came way" mean? Is that a banking term?
Smile all the way to the bank!
nm
I would. My son got his job at the bank he believes by
hope it didn't get cut off.
If you bank with Wachovia they have/are
sending 400 call center jobs to India, which also means they have access to your financial information. I use a local credit union, but have a home equity loan with Wachovia and with that they gave us, checking, savings, credit, debit accounts. I have closed all but the home equity account so far and told them why. I'm currently in the process of shopping rates to open a new home equity loan too.
No telling how many more banks/credit card companies are doing the same.
Talk to your bank
With DD, your bank statement is proof that the company paid you or not. With checks or prepaid credit cards, if it's lost in the mail YOU have no proof it wasn't sent. If it gets screwed up in adding it to the card, YOU have no proof the MTSO is at fault and you have to fight with Visa.
The MTSO is correct in refusing to tell you which other MTs get Visa--they have a right to privacy.
The main problem I can see with Visa is that it's just inappropriate. You'll be forced to spend every penny you earn AND spend it at an establishment that takes Visa. How do you plan on saving? How do you plan to pay your insurance and other expenses? What if your children need $10 for school?
You also may be subjected to fees and/or expiration of the funds on the card.
Why don't you talk to your bank about the safety of direct deposit? Perhaps if they can calm any unfounded fears you have, you can be paid in a more appropriate manner.
Bank jobs
I have a good friend who is a bank branch manager. Tellers, etc. are entry level. She just hired my hairdresser!!!! Don't know about where you live but I think most bank jobs are entry level in the smaller banks at least.
are you with a union?
Union -YES
NM
union
yes
union
YES!!!!!
Even the grocery baggers have a union
union for MT's
I'm in 1199 at my hospital - and this is a transcription position. (in NY).
What union? lol Please tell.

Union
I wonder if it is possible for MTs to organize. This is a profession that requires a good amount of training, skill, and responsibility. We should be able to make a living at it. There is something really wrong here.
union..
very interesting concept, but one has to keep in mind, transcription is a very degrading job nowadays as there are alternatives for companies i.e. outsourching, voice recognition, etc...so, everyone needs to just face the fact as I have so degradingly done so....there is no respect or money in transcription anymore! Try being on your own and raising children on "transcription wages"...not gonna happen!
I'm not in a union now but used to be...
It depends on the union. We MTs need a union badly. I'd say go for it. I used to belong to the American Auto Workers Union (about 30 years ago). DH belongs to an electrical union.
Anyone union here?
I have been offered an MT job that requires me to be in a union. Anyone in a union? Pros, cons?
TIA
Union for MTs
I am sorry, but I do not agree with you about a union for MTs. I have been married for 25 years to a man whom I have seen fight for everything in his union, pay union dues and watch the lazy people get away with everything they possibly can either due to the fact that they were hired by a friend or just are not hard workers to begin with. My husband is a hard worker, goes to work every day, does not steal, sleep on the job, smoke dope on the job, and these are just a few of the illegal practices that go on. He is now the shop steward and he does not recommend a union as he does not see in 15 years that his union has done that much for raises, benefits, etc. It just seems that unions some how represent a lot of people who do not want to work and hide behind a union to get away with it. Of course, some people do get fired, because unions will not stand up for the law breakers, but the others use it as a crutch. Our government has to stop sending our work overseas, but as long as the companies can save a few million dollars by sending our work over, they will continue to do it because it is the dollar that rules. But, our government is at fault here. Unions can work sometimes but not all the time. But, this is my opinion, and I have been in the MT business for over 30 years. I have seen the quality of the work from overseas and so have doctors, and some are appalled, while others could care less, because they save money. It is just like China making toys or dog food with poison and lead poison, our country needs to stop having them make these things, but they won't because labor is cheap over there. All of this is truly sad that we have to pay a price to save a few dollars. What is wrong with this country?
MT Union
I am fully in agreement that we need an MT union, particularly to protect our profession and stop those who do not know our profession from taking over and making decisions that they know nothing about. Everytime I have worked for a hospital, all the decisions as to our equipment, typing platform, pay et cetera have been made by the board of directors of that institution who know nothing about what we do. The last hospital I worked for, the supervisor was told not to make any noise about sending our work offshore. We knew nothing about this until later, and lo and behold this failed miserably, and we could have told them it would. The quality of work was deplorable, yet we worked with horrible equipment and for low pay, but they thought they were saving money. How about putting the same money they would to offshore work into better equipment and better pay. Yes, I would fully support a union.
UNION
Now you're talkin'!! We deserva a union - we're being taken advantage of by all of these companies! How do we get started?
I was an MT, we were in the union. nm
We do need a union. We just need
to go back into the hospitals to work as medical transcriptionists. Then we would make a decent hourly wage, be paid for any overtime, receive benefits, etc. It used to be that way for many, many years. The outsourcing of work by the hospitals to MTSO's was our downfall, as well as the formation of AAMT.
I do know many of you want to work at home, and you probably only got into this industry because it was home-based work, but if we were in the hospital setting, we would be treated with more respect and earn a decent wage. I know, because that is how I started out in the early 1980s. I enjoy working at home too, but unfortunately it is difficult for many to earn a good salary transcribing at home and being paid by the line. Years ago we got hired in-house if we had knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and then the real training began by the old-timers in the medical records department. This was the best way to learn medical transcription.
Some do go on and become successful at home after a formal MT training course, but unfortunately many never make it and many drop out of this line of work because of the low pay. It will only get worse in the future, and I do predict that unless we go back in-house, most of the MT work will be sent oveseas or become 100% VR-based.
What a union could then do is
What do we do then? I'm not an acute care transcriptionist. I have 20 years in this business. I work my own accounts and make decent money. I could do acute care no problem, but I don't want to. That's my choice.
My Dad was part of a Union and guess what? The steel mill sold to China anyway. So what did the Union really do for my Dad? Not a thing... Then my Mom had to go to work because my Dad was older by then and found it hard to find a job at his age (late 50s). I'm talking back in the 80s.
All of these companies have taken on the AAMT or whoever they are (I really don't care) as "word" and that's how they want things transcribed.
When you've been transcribing as long as some of us have, you tend to give up on a Union and what that takes to stay organized and also requirements and money it takes to keep a Union organized (dues).
I will never become certified because I won't make any more money than what I'm already making.
I transcribe for an online company that pays MTs that just graduated the same as I make. So, why bother?
Many years of experience is what makes you the money, not any school, or for that matter a Union.
I hate to be a downer, but really at this point, if there are MTs out there transcribing for 6 cpl, then we're done for. ASR is only as good as the Editor behind it and it is pricey as well.

I agree w/you, bank manager...
God is not a vindictive (sp?) God, He is a kind and loving God. This hurricane is simply nature, and nothing more, I'm sure...Would you bring your wrath down so hard on your own children for something they did that was wrong? Well, that's how God feels about us...His children, everyone of us. Even those who fight so hard to have Him removed from our lives...we are extremely blessed that God is so wonderful!
Put it in the bank. 100 years of interest. Just think!
Give me a break!
I needed a good laugh, thanks for posting. Trust me, I'm only laughing at the sheer stupidity of issuing a check for one cent. You can't even rebel and send it back to them because you'd be out 36 cents.
Maybe you should frame it and label it, "My Big Bonus."
because the person used to be a bank manager

I didn't think former bank managers
made any mistakes.
Take the money from your own bank account
I agree..The things *she* donates are from manufacturers that get a plug on her show or from the people who watch her show and donate to her Angel Network. Even when she donated cars, the people who got them had to pay the tax and registration on the cars, which came to a few thousand dollars each. These people could not even afford to buy new cars and they are gonna come up with a few thousand for taxes, etc.? Oprah is out of touch with the real world. I think Stedman Graham said it best on one of her shows, he told Oprah she was not nice. She seemed shocked and asked well, who is nice and he said Gayle King, her best friend. Oprah is pompous and acts like she thinks she is smarter and better than others..She isnt in my book. Come on, Oprah, how much of your billions are you gonna spend in your life time? Dont take the money from the public who watch your show..take it from your own bank account.
If you make enough of a fuss at your bank they
can, and will, release the funds back to you immediately. We bank at Commerce, and have had so many flubs with our debit card that we have 2 separate accounts - one just for the debit card with a limited balance in case it ever gets hit. But we have had lots of errors - ebay once hit the card for one of those burps at 1 cent for about a zillion times - other errors just like above, and I was told, too, that it had to take 3 days to release the hold. When I flipped out over it, it got released immediately. After all, it is our bank and we are the customer, right? Stick to your guns and you'll get your $$ instantly, if a mistake has been made that is verifiable.
I did, actually I got two jobs through the resume bank.
I went to work for a small independent company and was there for 2 years and then got a job with a national 3 months ago. Both places had contacted me from my resume being on this site.
It all depends on when your bank actually posts *sm*
it to your account.
If a person at your bank has to manually process it then it may vary, But they usually have a certain time it has to be done by.
What we were told when I worked in a bank - sm
Sometimes it depends on the time the tapes get loaded, sometimes there is a system glitch, sometimes there is tons to post on a particular day, so for all those reasons and more it can vary. People used to call all the time and ask if on their payday if they were waiting at the ATM at 12:01 would the money be there. I useds to tell them not to count on it! The bank actually has until, I believe, around 10 a.m. on payday to post them, but I have seen some postings later than that.
Support union - YES!

union -- teamsters out of LA said they'd take us
x
Yep, just like a union without saying the U word
and they jump right on in like the sleazy bottom-feeders they are.
See how fast they come to your aid when you need them too. You'll have to time them with a calendar instead of a stop watch.
Need labor union
After 20 years in this industry I can't wait to get out of it - early retirement here I come...They want to pay highly skilled translators (which is more what we do) at rate of a typist.
dream on if you think you are going to get 17 cpl with or without union
what's coming down the pike will knock that kind of pay right off the table, and no one will even look back.
how can they both be union and one pays so much more?
x
Please let me know the details of the union.
Yes we do need a union
