You should always give at least two week's notice!!
explain to them that this "is not your cup of tea". If you're looking for another job, they may tell you you don't have to work two more weeks. I once gave a four week's notice because I KNEW it would be a huge strain on the small company I worked for. Good luck!!
Just give the customary 2 week notice.

Will all of the final 12 be there next week? (nm)

My husband is in withdrawal. We were on vacation last week and he missed the final 2 episodes!! sm

Is there any kind soul out there who recorded it on either VHS or DVD who could send me a copy???? I would pay shipping! He wants to go on ebay and "buy" it, but I told him that one of these kind ladies from mtstars will help him out!

I personally have never seen the show. We were in another state visiting MY family and bless my husband's heart - I remember where we were last Monday night - sitting in my aunt's living room in the middle of no where in Oklahoma. Poor guy. He was so kind and nice, but I bet the whole night he was really upset because he knew he was missing THE SHOW of the decade! I had no clue this was going on....LOL

Any takers?????

Leaving this Saturday for a week...

in Bethany Beach, DE.  My parents rent the house and my family of 5 and my sister's family of 4 plus Mom and Dad all go together.  The beach is almost in our back yard and there is outlet shopping paradise in Rehobeth, not to mention seafood, seafood, seafood!  Can't wait!

Please forward the Paypal notification to me and I will check into it.

Yep and I'll be leaving them for ATT
Yep and i download at least 60 voice files a day 6 days a week and my kids download music and videos and college assignments-if I stay with Time Warner I might end up paying $100s a month for internet.  This way with ATT I can type anywhere; at our cottage, if we go camping, and not have to worry about it.  Time Warner is just greedy.
Heard on the news last week about people leaving
the country for medical care/dental treatment.   A man went to some Eastern European country for dental care.  Even with airfare it was cheaper there and that many other countries, including India, were starting to market themselves as a place for affordable healthcare for foreigners.
Pretty cool. I'll be looking forward to a Discovery program about this. nm

IC status and 2-week notice
As an IC, do you have to give 2-week notice if you are moving on to another company?
Forward it to spoof@paypal.com, also check your acct directly through their web site...
just don't click on a link in the emai. The hackers are getting better all the time.
Do they give you notice
Do you think they would give you notice if they decide to ship your work overseas, or give you notice that they are going to hire more MTs to take your work away from you. NEED I REALLY SAY MORE.
IC. How much notice to give?

There is no contract besides on saying to say for six months.  I have been there for almost 1 1/2 years.  If I wanted to give notice, what is usual for doing so?  Is it 1 week, 2 weeks....

Thanks!

Does it pay to give notice?

Please allow me to vent here.  I was the lead on 2 accounts at one of the nationals that is spoken of highly on this board.  I gave my notice.  I also agreed to train 3 people on both of my accounts before I left.  I got very few lines my last week because I was busy training, answering questions, filling in blanks, etc.  The company thanked me when I left and told me they would reimburse me for the training I provided.  I sent an email to the head of transcription and told her how many hours I spent training.

Well, I just got my last paycheck for my last week of work.  I did not do many lines that last week because I was busy training people.  There was no training time on my final paycheck, and the total net check was $67.

Does it pay to be professional and help the company out as you are leaving - I tihnk not!!  While the door is always open to this company, I will never go back after this slap in the face.  I should have just walked off the job for all the thanks I got.

I would include the why you're leaving part. They'll probably ask
s
You give your notice TODAY ... OR ...
you just pack up the computer TODAY, call your supervisor TODAY and tell her you quit TODAY.

That is how you get out of this "screwy place".

It's not rocket science, ya know!
ICs, how much notice do you give for vacation

If you are an IC for an MTSO, how much notice do you give for personal days, vacation days, etc.? This is not stated in my contract with my MTSO, and I do not think that the owner is extremely particular about these kinds of things, but I do want to be courteous. What is the standard? Thank you.

Anyone else notice prices of food getting higher every week?

That has SCAM written all over it. You'll end up paying lots of money to find out. nm

No reasons. Give 2 weeks notice.
They will probably let you go immediately anyway.

Never give anyone more information than is absolutely required in any situation. You owe them no explanation, either legally or morally.
There are actually people who don't believe you have to give any kind of notice. sm
But if you want the contract renewed or you want continued employment, common decency is called for.
The minute you give notice, the nationals usually sm
dump you on the spot.  Consider how long you want to keep the job, then tell them then, last minute.
I would give minimum of 2 weeks' notice
and would not want to burn any bridges so would let them know I would be willing to work a little after that if they got in a pinch but would not take the usual amount and only in an emergency type situation.  Have been in this biz long enough not to burn any bridges and keep all contacts if possible - you NEVER EVER know when you might need work again. Good luck!
Yeppers, it is polite if they do give you notice...
but it not legally required unless you have it contained in a contract somewhere.
Hello? With a week notice you can't sock in 3 days of food and water?
x
I think you should behave professionally and give 2 weeks notice. sm
I just think it is tacky to not give notice even though you feel they have been worse than tacky to you. Professional behavior makes you look good and feel good. Feel free to flame me to a crisp!
You can give 2 weeks notice, but be ready to leave right then if they suggest it.
Good luck to you!

Withholding half your check if you quit without notice...
Can someone point me in the right direction where I can verify that this is legal? I'm an independent contractor for a national company. I'm planning to give my notice soon but this part of the contract came up and my husband thinks it's illegal. Does anyone know for sure?
Once you give notice and quit working, how many days/weeks/months

are you covered by your medical/dental insurance?  My employee handbook does not mention this.  Is there a "standard" period of time that you remain covered?  TIA for your reply.

Won't be installing it for a week but I'll google it. nm

I wanted to thank all those who give me good advice last week. SM

And for listening to me boo hoo about being laid off or dissolved as the suits at the hospital like to call it.  Anyway, I have officially accepted a QA Editor position with a service and I'm actually in a more positive frame of mind than I was last week.

I got my laptop all set up and ready to go with a laptop stand for plenty of ventilation, I put off buying any kind of wav player and just downloaded ExpressScribe for the time being, and I didn't saturate the market with my resume, but picked only a few places to apply based on suggestions and information you all gave me here.  And I did all of this because you ladies gave me such good advice.

I just wanted to say what a great place this is and it is very, VERY wonderful to have a place to network, socialize, fellowship, or just plain gab with colleagues and friends.

I'll give that a try...
Hope my brain cooperates! Thanx...
I'll give it a go. Tx.---NM

Yes, I did ask this last week, and at last check had no reply.
So now we have to pay to have access to this same information?
Well I did that and I can get it to go forward now but I can back up the dictation only go forward.
:
I'll try that thanks. Give me a link....
Where do I buy one? Can you save me some time searching and give a link? Thanks so much.
I'll give you my 2 cents

When I started about 15 years ago I did clinic.  I had the same doctors over and over, every day.  While I got to making decent line counts, I also was very bored after a short time.  Clinic has all, but dried up at this point. The people who do it generally have their own accounts, pick up tapes or use an Olympus digital setup.  The days when there were lots of small companies with call-in systems who hired MTs are pretty well gone.  They exist, but not in the numbers they once did.

You are extremely wise to stick to acute care.  That is where the work is, at this point.  It is hard to develop the kind of ear that doesn't get rattled by many different voices on a daily basis.  Frankly, some MTs never do get there.

With VR or SR or whatever you call it coming on more strongly as time goes on, the worse it will be for those who do traditional I-type-every-word transcription.  The shloch you are getting will be the norm, not the exception.

I'd actually ask if I could have my secondary as my primary. You are fairly new to MT and you sort of need a bit of a leg up right now.  Once you get into more of a groove, and yes finding a groove often takes longer than a couple of years, these things will not be such a problem for you.  You will have "got it" by that point.

Tell me you are using an Expander and making the very most of it.  That is one thing that is really helpful.  It can help to take your mind off things like spelling and trying to push for more speed, and shifts more towards hearing the voices, recalling obscure terms and your accuracy.  You have not been doing this too long to learn an expander and make the most of it.

Hang in there.  It will get easier, but perhaps not as rapidly as you would like.  For all the years I have been at this, it has only been about 4 years where I felt I had a wide margin of mastery. The scope of knowledge is just too broad.

Check your ISP! Most give you some
Space on their server with your account...you're already paying for it!

Of course, you'll have to be sure everything is encrypted. Your ISP will not likely provide that.

If it's not a ton of stuff, I'd just use AES encryption and email back and forth.
I'll give that a try since I'm in the 14-day trial window
Thanks for the advice.
Thanks for the responses. I'll give it more time.

If u give a damn you'll proof....
PERIOD. About 90% of my proofing is done as I type, but when I've finished i've made it a habit to check for my blanks cuz sometimes u can catch the stuff u couldn't before, it just suddenly becomes clear to you, and also I skim through any sections that were questionable, not blank-worthy, just want to make sure its an easy read. I'm pretty confident in my abilities after all this time but mistakes do happen and you're in denial if you think u don't make them. Sometimes the fingers and mind aren't in sync. Its easy to only think of the $$$ and be nonchalant about the reports but what if this were Your loved one. So yeah, put me down as a Proofer :)
Offer 1 week notice, but willing to offer 2 if they would be in a bind. Also, (sm)
make sure your resignation letter is written with class.  Never good to burn your bridges.
Hey! I saw that picture last week on Match.com?!?! better check his email

I'll check it out and try it. Thanks for your help!
