Has been great, really great. Fast. Was $579. and you can purchase an extended warranty to get work done at Best Buy, although I haven't used it at all.
Gateway was bought by somebody else, so don't know if their quality is going to suffer. I have really been impressed with the Gateway I bought. It had AMD processor, but everything's been fine.
It comes with a great restore disk--I used it once, when I tried to UNINSTALL the TRIAL PROGRAM of MICROSOFT WORD. So--- IF you get a computer that has MIcrosoft Trial Versions on, just KEEP THEM ON, becuase like all things Microsoft, it cannot be uninstalled with the uninstall program like any other program-- it has to ** up the computer (would not boot up at all, wouldn't do anything). SO, just keep the Microsoft Trial junk on if it comes with. And, as an aside, don't ever buy the license to the trial if you want it. Buy a real copy and get the disk.

Do not buy a Gateway from HSN
All I can say is do not ever buy a Gateway from HSN. I bought one last March and have regreted it ever since. After a couple of weeks, I had been having problems with programs. I called HSN and they said to call Gateway. Okay. I called Gateway and they have a deal with HSN in order to get the computers to them at a reduced price that they do not send any back up or program disks with the computer, like the ones that came with my Dell-I might add. Well, they asked me if I made backup disks with the blank ones that came with the computer, and I had. The only problem is is that my computer was faulty when I got it so I made a backup disk of a faulty computer, so they didn't know what to do and HSN didn't know what to do. HSN did not honor it at all and didn't give me a discount or anything to buy new Microsoft XP or any programs to format my computer and start from scratch. I was screwed and spent 1,600 on a computer that has been giving me nothing but grief since. I never had that problem with my Dell and I also have a Sony laptop that has been good. I told HSN that I would never do business with them or Gateway ever again. It has been a nightmare!! Now they say that it is too late to help me with anything because, "Good grief, you bought this system in March!" Aarghhhhhhh! I said, "Exactly, that is how long I have been having problems?!?!?" Anyway, I hope you take my advice. I heard about some problems with both of these companies before but I didn't take heed. Norton will not load, I have continuous virus problems, Oh boy, it never ends.
Actually, its the other way around, Gateway
.
We have Gateway and IBM....
and no problems with either one, though the Gateway is only a couple of months old and the IBM is 2 years old.
does any one have a GATEWAY----
notebook. Are you happy with it?
Gateway.
I bought my boyfriend one from Best Buy and he absolutely loves it.
emachines=gateway
Gateway makes emachines. Bought a cheapie one at Best Buy and works great!
Gateway lap top question
I bought my son a Gateway laptop three weeks ago to take to college. He has already seen the "blue screen of death" and has barely used it. Because I am computer illiterate and I know some of you are much more informed about these things, is this a MAJOR problem, i.e. take it back and get a completely different brand or is this something I can easily get fixed?
Thanks for your help!
I have always loved Gateway also but -
they were bought by Acer and I am not sure that helpful midwest technical support still exists there.
BestBuy has them, and they have them out so you can try them out with sound. nm

XP Media
Might be the fact too that you are using XP Media and not XP Home or XP Pro
Don't believe the news media (sm)
You are so right. Everything is going up but our wages and it's happening all over. It is time for everyone to get their finances in order. We are all going to have to tighten our belts and get our finances in order and get rid of credit cards!

Alert The Media
Do you think you could draw the attention of the media for this cause? Maybe there's a spunky investigative report who would want to get the story out.
Typical media; what do they know.
nm
it is a form of media ...
for healthcare professionals. It has a circulation. It is readily available in schools. All media matters because what is in the media influences the way people think. I think it gives a negative view of us to those who call the shots over us who read it. That's why I think it matters.
This is HEARSAY from media and/or Mrs. Twitty.
You all quote media as if it should be written in stone. Obviously not enough credibility to hold this guy in jail for suspicion.
media play dictation
Anyone familiar with this? My doc is dictating via internet. It comes across on my media play and i can hear him but when i switch over to word there is no way to pause him from talking...........
The media will contact the AAMT
The AAMT will say the same old line about there not being enough US MTs. We need a good response for their lie.
Windows Media Player
Does anyone know if it is possible to use a pedal with the Windows media player? I am doing some test reports and have been unable to use my pedal to start, stop, and rewind. Without the pedal, this will take forever!
It plays in Windows Media but..
I first get a message that it is not a recognized extension.
I'm not surprised that the media is trying to "spin" him into a hero
but he's unqualified and unethical. The tourists that were there were able to pay him to let them out of there first, plain and simple. Once again, consider the source.
Hero my foot.
It's all part of the media's waging war on Christians
They have now pulled out all stops and have no problem making us all look like a bunch of bible-banging hicks if we speak our minds.
Help with taking test with media player
Hi there....I have to take a test using Windows Media Player and I can't figure out how to type in Word and still be able to use the keyboard keys (no foot pedal yet). If anyone could help it would be much appreciated.
Microsft digital media keyboard

Media Player/DSS format questions
This subject brings me to the problem I am having right now. I have a WAV pedal program which my doctor and I just started using. Going fine. Then all of a sudden he changes his format and sent me a file with a WMA and it came up in the Media Player. Oh, I saved the attachment in MY WAV files, but also have an archive file set up also. It did not come up in MY WAV files, but thank goodness did automatically come up in the archive part in the Media Player, and I could not get it to work with my pedal either, so literally had to listen and stop, re-listen, and type, etc. It took me 3 1/2 hours to do a 20 minute job! I get so frustrated as I am not IS literate. Now he has told me that he will be sending everything in DSS format and that I should go to a particular website and download so that I can get into it. Well he did not give me a model number, so cannot seem to get a download without it. But this also makes me wonder where and how I should be setting up things to find the documents and where/how to save them. Any tips are appreciated. TIA
Try this plug-in for Windows Media Player. sm
It looks like the .dvf file is a Sony recorder file. You don't say why the file needs to be converted to .dss and I'm not even sure that you can because .dss is proprietary to Olympus. Maybe this plug-in will be of some help to you. Let us know.
The MEDIA is owned by 5 mega corporations
and they have an agenda almost if not more devious than certain politicians...
Remember the MEDIA is owned by FOR-PROFIT corporations. Corporations like this have a LEGAL responsibility to make as much money as possible for shareholders. What does that mean? It means they choose sensational garbage over substance to "report" - and in the case of this so-called war, they BENEFIT the reads PROFIT directly and indirectly, so they purposely censor the information that gets in the way of true public awareness.
If ANYone sincerely believes the media is our friend, they have not done their homework. Don't take my word for it: Google "who owns the media" and see any number of studies showing WHICH corporations own the major news corporation.
GE make "bring good things to life" BUT they ALSO make bombs (WMD) - AND they own NBC. Connect the dots yourself, and consider asking your reps in Congress for legislation to clean up the media.
Yes, there are crack reporters who are DYING to report the truth, but they are EDITED out by their supervisors who follow the agenda of the corporate bosses.
The facts are out there if you look for them.
I got a Microsoft Digital Media Pro keyboard - sm
at Office Depot... not very expensive, (maybe $39?), and it has a great feature... a little lever off on the left side of the keyboard that if you want the letters to appear larger, you push it up, and smaller, you push it down. Only takes 1 finger. I LOVE it! :)
I would reverse the media player back
and see if that corrects the problem. If so, you might either decide you don't need the upgrade or contact Windows about a fix...
Make sure your plug is all the way in - sometimes it looks like it is but isn't seated.
Just do a restore to the day before you did the upgrade - or if you are uncomfortable with this uninstall the software and test your headphones...
just a thought.

No, you cannot use a foot pedal with Media Player.
Try downloading Express Scribe; it's free.
If it is a windows media audio file just .....sm
drag it into your open gear player box. You should be able to play the windows media file there, and use your foot pedal.
Will the file play in Windows Media or QT? ..nm

Windows Media Player and Foot Pedal
Does anyone have a simple solution to hooking up a VEC footpedal so that it works with Windows Media Player to stop and start? The VEC hooks into a USB port on the computer and has 3 pedals, rewind, forward, and type.
XP Media SP3 download w/DocQscribe conflicts, help needed
Can someone please advise me on any issues they have had with Windows XP Media Service Pack 3 download with DocQscribe. I know of several MTs who could not work for days, after installing service pack 3, and tech support could not help them either. I have not downloaded this yet because of this issue and need information about this prior to downloading it. I was told their F command keys still do not work either. TIA
Is it their computer? Why are they installing a firewall and autocorrect on your computer? That sm

Just as a note, Windows Media player will NOT work with a footpedal.
Unless there's some voodoo magic out there that I'm not aware of.
Flashdrive question versus Windows Media Player
There are 32 files on this flashdrive. I use a Stop/Start pedal. In using my pedal, I have done all of the files but four. Four of the 32 files show a length of about one hour each, but you cannot hear anything. However, if you open this up in Windows Media Player, you can hear him talking. What do I need to do about this? I can't type using Windows Media without my pedal, and why do you think I can't hear just four of the 32 files with my Start Stop pedal? This is a new thing for me and please pardon my ignorance, but I could really use your advice as soon as possible. You can email me and thank you kindly. Lisa
Mine are in year-round thank goodness! They've started their new year 2 months ago.

Hmmm.....I read somewhere about seeing if you can play the files in Windows Media Player....sm
because Media Player downloads proper codec "on-demand" and this is apparently needed to play .wav files in Express Scribe (read this at their website). Can you play any other types of files?
Pedal won't work with Media Player, download Express Scribe. nm

you need to change your properties of those file types to open with ES and not media player. sm
go to your folders by start, explore. find where you saved those files to. once you find a file, right click on it and click on properties. under the general tab, look down 3 lines to where it says open with and i bet it says media player. click change, find the express scribe program. make sure you check that box under there that says always use this program to open this type of file. then you can either right click again, click open with, select express scribe and it will automatically load in ES or you can hit the load button on ES, find where the file is saved, select and it loads it. if this doesn't work, email me.
Does anyone know how to adjust the speed of a Windows Media Player for testing purposes? nm Thanks
