Funny thing I see the same errors repeated for over a year now of training no matter how many times

you correct it. I think you had better get your facts straight HON.

Just received mine Saturday. More or less the same thing we were emailed last week. Kind of repeated
that. Just curious about benefits for SE. Never heard of that. The letter might have been a little more explicit about things but still nothing on what the pay plan is.
They were going pay me an hourly rate, training pay. It doesn't matter, I just tested for two ot
and I did pretty well. I should get a couple of offers in the next couple of days, hopefully -- I don't want to be overly confident because if I learned anything out of all this it is don't count your chickens before they hatch and don't put all your eggs in one basket.
I'm actually training my 14 year DS on MT work...
his grammar is much better than many MT's who took my grammar screening and he is developing quite an ear. I sit beside him and overlook what he is typing and man is he doing great! At 3 cpl he makes anywhere from $3.33 an hour to $5 an hour and will soon be due a raise, doncha think? Oh and B4 someone starts screaming about patient confidentiality, he signed the confidentiality form and contract and is now a bonafide IC.
It is definitely a BOY thing w/toilet training..nm
it doesn't matter. next year it will be different but yet subject to interpretation.
Mixed Latin and English abbreviations "confuse" the health care worker. Doesn't compute. Next year it will change. Maybe too we can spell things phonetically for the healh care worker who is confused. The new spellings can bring in new revenue to AAMT.
try perennial rhinitis, as in only certain times of the year
might check spelling, I think it's perennial
I wear cotton socks all year, no matter how hot or cold. :) nm

had it done 3 times - best thing I ever did SM
I had 3 things against me - astigmatism, large pupils and 20/400 vision (glasses since 3rd grade). I could wear contacts, but gave them up after pregnancy. Got the wavelength laser; first time I saw 20/40 (first procedure). Waited and had only one eye fixed to 20/20 for monovision (second procedure; I'm older and they wanted to see if I could skip reading glasses). Worked fine but absolutely hated it. So went back and had the 20/40 eye fixed (third procedure) and I can see 20/20 (really 20/15 but hey...). That was 2 years ago. Took my driving eye exam and passed for the first time EVER. So if I can do it THREE TIMES and still rave about it (and I have a low threshold for scary things), well, it has been without a doubt short of having children/marrying my hubby the best thing I have ever had done. LOVE IT!! Do your homework and get someone who has done the procedure many many times...you can pay more or you can pay less, but you want experience!!
Task bar. I do this by accident a couple of times a year
and I fix it, but can't figure out what I've done to fix it.
I have my task bar at the bottom of my screen usually, but now it is on the far right and I can't figure out how to get it back on the bottom. I know you normally click and drag, but I can't get it do down, just side to side. I even push the down arrow but that doesn't seem to do it either.
A couple of times a year the suits post as
an MT. I used to work for SS and they were so bad that I can't imagine them fixing all the problems in my lifetime.
Times change..including this policy about who is able to post. About a year ago,
this board started letting everyone post job openings, at least to what I can remember. I know at one point if they were India-based/affiliated etc..then they could not advertise but since anymore it is so rampant with companies being associated with India, they started letting them post. I could be wrong but this is what I recall.
Amen, and I will add one more thing. If I had a penny for all the times I've heard, "just a ty
well, maybe I wouldn't be rich, but I could buy a months' worth of groceries! LOL
that whole thing is really funny, thanks I

Funny thing is
I have also always enjoyed oncology very much and at one time thought of getting only oncology accounts locally. Maybe we should trade places for a few months !
Talk is fine but enough with the repeated whining. sm
I think you are right. You should not leave MQ until you have another job and absolutely, you should not settle for just anything. While it is true MQ has put you were you are today, there is nothing that says you have to stay down. Take your future in your own capable hands and run with it. And I don't agree that where MQ goes, there goes the rest of us. I would like to think MQ will teach us all a lesson as to what NOT to put up with. And if we all make a stand against companies like MQ, I would hope all of our futures can be brighter. I think that also means not sitting quietly by while our jobs are offshored. Refuse to deal with offshore call centers and service centers. It is a small step but we have to start somewhere. Management of these companies has no job except for us, for that matter, state employees on up to the top, have no jobs without us. There is no reason for any of us to take bad treatment without fighting back. I think the future CAN be changed, if we all stick together and make our voices be heard. But whining incessantly just makes people turn a deaf ear to your complaints after a while. A blog would give all MQers a place to support and sympathize with each other.
Funny thing, I knew I could bait you.
Call 1-900-555-5555 for more information for just $10.00 a minute. I can tell you your future as a sucker will go nowhere.
You are way too funny. Loved the shooting thing.
Only thing missing is the wheelchair and the O2. Honestly, we have 100 year olds that are perfectly capable, but PULEEEZ, this new legislation was just insane.
The "clicking" of the O2 machine will just scare the deer off anyway.
funny thing...this is my spare I've never used. sm
I just pulled it off the shelf to let a friend borrow it. I figured it may just be dusty...?
Funny how we can read the same thing and come up with a different interpretation.
I don't see the message "lie down and take it" but rather, "change is coming". The above idea that we have to change with the times is paramount but sometimes I think there are those who want to stop all change from occurring and that's just not realistic.
However, I think we do agree that there is change in the air and it's up to the individual to find the best way for them to adapt to change and still be of benefit to their employer and self.
I did the same thing nearly a year ago. sm
I got sick of talking to Abduleebadabaabah..
"And many tank yous for calling "company name" and how is it I help yous?
I had one foreign guy figure out that I was on the east coast and he said, "You musta be happies with the snows, yes?"
It was August and 98 degrees.
I got shut down with that major company at least 5 times a week. I made sure that they knew that my biggest gripe with their company was that their tech "support" staff was not even in our country.
I've been with a reputable local company for almost 12 months. I have not been shut down once and the only time I did have to call tech support, I talked to a guy named Mike who knew that there is no snow in August.
Just had to do the same thing this year--sm
I got a letter from the company that I was an employee due to IRS guidelines. For what ever reason they did not tax $24,000 earned in first part of year. Called IRS and they told me to fill out the form. Just heard this week that they were ruling in my favor--not only for 2005 but going back to 2002 when I began working as an IC for them. Have not heard from the company yet though.
I did the same thing this year
I'm also employee status, tiny mortgage, hardly any medical expenses, and getting soaked by tax prep for the last couple years. I was nervous this year because I made more money than I was accustomed to and didn't know if I'd have to pay in, so prior to tax time I did an online free tax estimation with turbotax. I was surprised to discover the standard deduction gave me a better deal. So I looked over my taxes for the last 2 years and sure enough, that's what the tax preparer used. But since they had crunched all my itemized numbers to SEE if itemizing would net me more, I realized my whopping tax prep bill was due to the time they spend doing that.
From now on I'm crunching my own itemized numbers in advance. This year I did my taxes online with OLT, took the standard deduction, and paid a whole $30 to electronically file both fed and state and had both refunds in early February! The IRS website gives a list of recommended companies that will let you use their online software for cheap or free (some age/locations/circumstances restrictions apply) and that's the way I'm going from now on!
All these tax prep places have lost my business, there's no point in paying huge fees for something I can do myself, and in my experience many of their employees don't seem to be very professional or knowledgeable, in that they had to have a supe walk them through half my stuff over the phone! I think as smart as most MTs are, we can figure this stuff out as well if not better than these so-called expets who are basically only temps.
Went through the same thing last year, April, sm
with my 14 year old Cocker. Strange how it all happened. While I was suffering my own loss, the poster, Laur, was doing the exact same thing at the exact time with her dog. I truly know what you are going through. I have since gotten another Cocker but he will never replace the one that I lost, even though I love him dearly. they are so different in many ways and so alike in others. My kids laugh because when he gets to barking too much, I call him the other dog's name. I'll never forget her.
Funny! Thanks for the chuckle! I was like, "Whoa, poor thing, started young"!!
You scared me!!!
The FUNNY thing is that in the amount of time it takes for them to post a message

Sickest thing, I made more money my first year as MT as I do now, for working
zz
I saw this happen in MQ office while training. Supervisor was supposed to be training but
account was behind so she did transcription while she collected salary for "training" me. Of course I asked others for guidance rather than bother the furiously typing supervisor. I don't know if she cherry picked but she definitely double dipped into the MQ payroll.
Doesn't matter, IF you are not paid an hourly wage, i.e. a set amount no matter - sm
how much or how little you type, say $12.00/hour, you do not get OT. As someone mentioned here, certain jobs are exempt, and as most of us are paid a flat rate of .08 cpl or .09 or .10, whatever it is, that is all we get regardless of how many hours under or over 40 hours we go. If you want OT then go get an in-house job or get a job doing something else.
there is a world of difference between MT training and NP training
honestly, I am in nursing school and have lots of health care experience as a paramedic and medical assistant. I think you can relax and leave your family's health either in your mother's hands or their physician's...
Two errors per page is a LOT of errors! nm

Mine are in year-round thank goodness! They've started their new year 2 months ago.

Union diesil mechanic - good pay, great benefits. We swap year to year on who brings home more sm
money.....but I am an IC and he has all the benefits...health insurance/dental that the company pays for, pension plan, 401k, etc. Factor all of that in and he makes way more than I do.
You're funny. Ignorant, but funny.
I don't live in NYC and I don't work out of NYC and I make wayyyyy more than $23 an hour, SandyGIRL.
I'm an employee at the largest national and I make anywhere from $58K to $64K a year.
You don't have to believe anyone but you show your ignorance by telling those of us who make that money that we're full of it.
Hahaha
Sorry, that was not an ASR funny, just a regular ole dictation funny. LOL! nm

to cowgirl - Last I knew, last year the job paid $25,000/year no taxes, etc.
The hospital was bombed about a year ago, but not a lot of damage, very minimal damage.
44-year-old WF, M, Texas, 3 grown kids, just had 26 year wedding anv.

After I went to a 1-year MT course at a vocational school, it was so bad that I did the 2-year colle
Not only did I finally receive the proper training, but the woman on the advisory board hired and mentored me. I also joined the local AAMT and networked. Good luck. I know how frustrating it can be. A community college will have a good program to include medical language, MT courses taught by local MTSOs, business English, anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, etc.

I think he makes $700,000.00 a year, and if they ask him to walk before his first year MQ has...sm
to pay him a cool 1 million dollars. You can check this out at the Medquist website. I think the CFO makes $350,000 a year, and the head of IT makes $250.000 a year.
P.S. This does not include the perks, like expense account, car allowance, sign-on bonus, etc.
Our 16 year old son has been working for a year now to pay for his truck.
He's learning how to sand and do body work and how the engine and transmission go together. My parents didn't buy cars for my siblings and I either. I had a 20+ year old beater car until I could afford to move up to a a newer one.
I see all the nice new cars parked in the high school parking lot every day. It's nice that so many disrespectful punk kids get handed something nicer to drive than what all the teachers drive. Oh, well. Honestly, I think most of them borrow Mommy or Daddy's car or are the child of a doctor who can afford to hand them everything.
Hopefully, my kids will take better care of their cars because they bought and built them on their own. You're not going to grow up to be responsible if you don't work hard for something and expect Mommy and Daddy to bail you out all the time.
Oh, my Dad lectured us on even allowing our child to have a vehicle because Dad didn't have one until after he had worked his way through college, lettered on the football team, got straight As, lettered on the baseball team, yadda yadda. He either walked or hitched a ride. Yeah, well, times were different back then, Daddy-O. LOL At least my kid has the opportunity to work and earn his own car.
IC - 30 hours week, $98K last year. So far this year - 28K. sm
Individual IC - own account(s).
Not me, owed last year, and expect to owe this year- sm
or break even, had more expenses this year. Only owed $200 but still don't want to owe at all. Need to start doing estimated tax payments again so I don't owe! Guess I will get off my butt and do that this year.
Ya still got errors
Keep trying, you are almost there!
if you had that many errors
then something was wrong from the get go.
>>>It sounded good because I thought it would be less wear and tear on my hands. I type already all day on a FT regular job. I never had a report that didn't need massive changing and it just didn't take long to see that I was getting the proverbial screw.
Like I many times before: [1] have the correct sound card; [2] have the correct microphone (the one that comes with the product is probably not good enough); [3] have VR analyze as many documents as you have available (I have more than 500 MB); [4] add words and phrases to the Word List (decreases errors in the long run); [5] do not dictate like you talk to someone ... you need to ar-ti-cu-late correctly; [6] take the time to correct errors when they occur or at the end of the day. But, if you see an error and change it manually, the program is not going to learn; [7] You cannot use VR for all dictators, but you can for all good dictators. I would not use it for the nightmares from hell, unless they are so repetitive you know what they are going to say as soon as they start to say it.
These are the most critical factors involved with using SR (speech recognition) software. If you eliminate or skip over any ONE of these items, you're going to reduce accuracy.
I've been averaging 99.5% (one to two errors per page) for a long time. It think it's obvious I'm doing something right.
There's nothing more I can say.
Errors
Aunt Bea -- no question is a dumb question. I personally correct errors as soon as I see them. I always have the fear that my spellchecker will not pick them up -- for instance if the error was "too" instead of "to" your spellchecker would not catch it. I leave nothing to chance. Hope this helps.
errors
.25 for typos, commas that don't affect the sentence
2.0 for missed medical terms
2.0 for incorrect use of a medical or nonmedical term
0 for leaving out a significant part of a sentence or replacing anything in a sentence that is not said.
when in doubt - leave a blank
errors
Is it typical for a co. to deduct for errors? I have had some, but nothing that is overly noticable.
Errors
Do you find that it irritates you probably more than it should to see errors in the newspaper, etc.? I mean, something that will be read by so many people should be proofread to perfection, don't you think? They seem to just jump out at me and I know I'm more critical since I am an MT. How about you?
No, I don't think it is about errors....sm
work is sent to other countries because it is cheaper.
