I've done this for a short period.
I had a doctor who hated to dictate. He hired someone that was a resident, but then that physician moved on to other things. I actually liked it because it was feast or famine. I eventually dropped the account (not enough profit) and it was after it took 3 months to pay me. Never again will I waste time on accounts that do not pay. I learned my lesson.
I was here all weekend and only had trouble for a short period last night. nm

don't use TASP's period. Why duplicate the internet especially when it is free...I use
Docshuttle, and an FTP site. Docshuttle can be set up to be entirely automatic at the doc's end, which makes it so much easier to get the file to and fro.

Free AV software
The free version of AVG is the only one that I'd recommend among the freebies. My preference would be either the "total" AVG product (not free) or Norton.
Unfortunately, no single AV software is able to catch every single virus. You have to consider that by some estimates there are a thousand or more viruses being released every day, which means that no virus software can hope to be 100% up to date.
Down time should be paid, period.
Not our fault we show up for work and there isn't any. And I don't want to sit all day and night at my desk waiting for work to dribble in, either. If it isn't there during my scheduled shift, then DOWN TIME. We have families to take care of and be with.

Thank you so much! DH downloaded it, installed it, and I am transferring files with no problems....something the IT department of this MTSO couldn't do in six weeks of haggling!!! So thanks to those of you who helped out - it was GREATLY appreciated!

Best free encryption software? sm
I'm going out of town tomorrow, kind of a mini family emergency, and for the first time will have to drag my laptop along to work. The encryption software on my main computer cannot be transferred to the laptop. Anyone have opinions on free encryption software that is fast to install, good quality, and easy to use. I don't have enough time to learn new software or putz with it. Thanks.

Just bought a new computer and need to load a linecounting software program. Used to have MTCount which was free but now it has changed to MTTools and is no longer that way. Any suggestions?

I need a software program similar to GearPlayer, free or cheap. Is there one that anyone can recommend? I want one that would work with the GearPlayer footpedal I have or with easy keyboard commands to start, stop, rewind, etc.
I ran across a site months ago that had older versions of Stedman's spellchecker for $30 or so. If anyone knows that site, or one similar, please share that info, as well.
I also need WordPerfect, as new a version as I can get, but as inexpensive as I can get, also.

Hi. I am a newbie here. I did a search in the forums but did not really find anything. I am going to be doing some work, for the first time in a long time, on digital voice files. I have an "Infinity" foot pedal and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good, free software that will allow me to listen to the wav files and use my foot pedal. I would prefer one that would let me speed up and slow down......any suggestions? I appreciate any help. Thanks
Your insurance benefits will be effective through the period of time you have paid them which...sm
could be the end of the week or the end of the month or the day that the company calls the insurance company to cancel them. You cannot depend on thinking if you quit in the middle of the month you will be covered through the end of the month. You have to find out exactly from your company. Also for COBRA benefits you are eligible for up to 18 months or perhaps longer in special circumstances but yes you have to pay the premium all by yourself, the company doesn't chip in at all. The plus side is you are still in a group plan. You cannot get individual insurance unless you have NOTHING at all wrong with you, no high blood pressure, no depression, nothing. It is very important to not have a lapse in coverage greater than 60 days. If you do, you will lose coverage for any preexisting conditions when you go to your next GROUP insurance (this is the other part of HIPAA - portability). If for example you are covered for high blood pressure and you don't choose COBRA and your insurance lapses for more than 60 days, when you get on the next group plan, they will not cover your high blood pressure M.D. visits or medications for up to 1 year.
You can get relatively cheep individual coverage if you choose a high deductible, to carry you through. That is, if you can get it. Good luck.

Download FTP SERVER software (it can be found free). Then have the docs
upload their files to YOUR server. There is no cost to you or the doc to do this. Someone does have to pay for the recorder, which I have chosen to do for 2 docs. The other one purchases his own when needed (twice in 7 years). One picks up files on FTP server. The other 2 still want theirs printed. Since they are not in same city, I mail them via snail mail and they are happy with that. I also do fax any stat reports to them at no charge simply because I have unlimited long distance.
Any suggestions where I can obtain free invoicing software, or reasonably priced. nm

They had me working early morning shifts on Saturdays and I think they picked a wrong time for me LOL
One particular morning I was frying bacon for breakfast and early lunch burgers. Seems there was supposed to be a bucket under the grill, toward the back part, to catch all of this grease from the bacon. I kept scraping it into that little hole and a few batches later, I noticed I was slipping and sliding! There was bacon grease all over that floor!!!! I didn't fry bacon anymore. I became the drink person. ahahahaha!!
I've only been on it a short time but love it - I use Shorthand, though with it.

Late period, test negative, 1 week later my period arrived.
To be honest, when I did become pregnant, I knew it right away. Sounds weird, but I just knew and it showed up on HCG test at 4 weeks.
Sometimes, you just know! Good luck whatever results you have.
Actually, chosing "cap after period" will not force a period in the instances I mentioned. --
Even with it checked, it WILL NOT cap after a number with a period in it. Like "white count 14.1. hemoglobin 10.9.
If you know of a way that it WILL, let us all know. I have never had a version of Word that will work that way. Always puts in the lower case, even though there is a period there.

Yes I've transcribed for an MD who said this constantly while he was trying to think of what he would dicate next. I also had one who would say "ahhhhhhhhhh....." for what seemed like an eternity!! So annoying isn't it!

And I especially don't like long OPs, they are the most boring for me, and the doctors pause a lot cause they have to think more. I just want to be done with it! Next!!! ; )

Long short forms vs short short forms

A long short form is usually easier to remember. So I would definitely assign the short forms as suggested by Kelli:
SmithCThead
SmithCTabdomen
etc
In most Expander programs you would opt for a short short form as you have to type the whole short form before you can expand.
In Instant Text you don't have to type the whole short form: you type the first two letters of your long short form and then you can type any of the following letters.
So in this case you would type smcth for the first one, smcta, and you may also type smhead, smabd
This is possible when you use the Instant Text marker key to expand. If you use the space bar to expand, you may be better off assigning the initials as suggested in the second response, as you would not be able to "jump ahead".

If u need server software, try guild ftp. If just user software
then try cuteftp, coffeecupftp, or wsftp. They don't charge a line rate and I believe guildftp server software is still free.

I have used this for years and have compared to Sylvan, Word, and MP Count, etc. When you have it set to count every character, bold, shift, tab, etc. It is great and always higher than the others. Now if you are wanting gross lines like in Word then no it won't be as high because Word counts blanks lines and Abacus counts a line only if there is a character on it. There is also two places to check for it to count the Headers/Footers. If you have the FREE version then it must be the trial or a very old version so you don't have all the features and functions.
