DH and I used to clean lawyers' offices for supplemental income. sm
Made good money. They were very appreciative folks and even gave us a $100 tip at XMAS time. Mind you, we were working for a contractor. Would have made more if we were the contractor. No shame here.
SE Medicare and SS are taken out, not fed tax.
I looked on the IRS website. You do get a SE W2 and then you can deduct business expenses to lower your fed tax, but you still are responsibile for fed tax yourself. I double checked at the IRS website.
Question about Medicare.
I hope I'm posting on the right board, but here it goes. My elderly mother was in the hospital back in January and on Friday received a bill from a nephrologist who saw her briefly once and billed Medicare $375 for his in-hospital consultation. Medicare paid them $15.68, they "wrote down" $240.40 and the supplementary paid $3.92, and now they are billing her $115. This is the first time she has ever received a bill from anyone as her insurance has always paid. I keep thinking that they have used a wrong CPT code for their billing as it is beyond me that Medicare would only pay $15.68 for an in-hospital consultation. I will have to wrangle with these people tomorrow, but wanted to know if anyone had any opinions about this and feels like I do. I don't think this is her deductible amount as she had seen many physicians before him seeing her in the hospital. I know I will also have to call Medicare to see if in fact they are the ones that got their bill in first and this is in fact her yearly deductible, but as they say, knowledge is your best tool before someone tries to pull the "wool over your eyes."
yes..they are taking out for SS and Medicare...
a friend of mine said when she wasn't making that much money she had them withold an extra 10.00 for federal so i may have to do that...
Cuts in medicare and medicaid are about to take place
I have mentioned this but it was always deleted as I think the monitor thought I was talking politics.
There will be a marked decline in coverage for services to medicare and medicaid patients and I believe to offset this, medical facilities are finding ways to cut costs.
The cuts will be significant. You could do a Google search for Deficit Reduction Act. Radiology will be most severely hit, especially stand alone facilities.
Many physicians in my area don't want to take Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare
or other insurances because the insurance companies require a huge buydown of charges and then disallow quite a bit for being "above the reasonable amount."
For example, I had double insurance of Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Tricare when I had surgery. The bills totaled $15,000. Blue Cross knocked $5,000 off the physician's $7,800 bill, paid him $600 and left Tricare and me to deal with the $1,200 balance. Tricare wouldn't pay because they disallowed the amount as unreasonable, the physician's office forced me to make payments on it, and I had to fight just so I didn't owe them another $1,200. It was ridiculous that I had double insurance coverage and wound up owing anything. Meanwhile, the doctor didn't even get paid that much, and he did my presurgery appointments, the actual surgery, two postsurgery appointments to remove hardware, plus coordinating everything between cardiology, radiology, anesthesia, laboratory, surgery, and having special equipment trucked in from out of state.
If I had not had insurance at all, I would have had to pay the entire amount. I think it's crazy that noninsureds have to pay the full amount but insurance companies can disallow or buy down the amounts due. Anyway, you hit a big rant of mine. Shortly after I lost my Blue Cross coverage, my son needed to be seen but we couldn't find a provider to even take Tricare at all. So much for my husband serving his country and being away from his family in the line of duty. The doctors get rich and refuse to treat military personnel who fight for their freedom. Talk about a total lack of appreciation.
Your national is liable for SS and Medicare tax not you. They thinkyou are self employed. nm
:
I've actually found Medicare very easy to deal with...
wouldn't dread the call. It will probably go better with Medicare than with the nephrologist.
Will I not get paid if the hospital isn't reimbursed with Medicare/Medicaid?
I was told by a coworker that California is in so much debt that I may not get a paycheck if CA goes bankrupt because the hospital I work for will not be getting subsidized any longer....
could this be true?
Yes, you're cranky. The docs may be instructed to do so to appease Medicare or other such entity.

Medicare is offering free installation of EMR to physicians and hospitals.

If government is involved, it will be as screwed up as the Medicare medication program.
Heaven save us from all these wanna be kings that sit on top of the hill.
I bet other insurance carriers have insurance for their employees. Why not Wal-Mart? nm

Not sure, I have deductions for federal income tax, SS tax, Medicare tax, and state income tax. ???

you also need to know the animals that you broker. I grew up on a farm so I broker mostly farm animals but have done dogs, cats, birds, etc. You'd be surprised at the "pets" I've been asked to locate, some I had to get on the net and do a crash study.

For anxiety you can minimize the stress if possible or learn to better manage it. I have insurance so I am on medication and just started counseling this time around as I am dealing with a lot right now. Do research if you think that may be it and try to help yourself by teaching yourself stress relievers or taking time for yourself to help until you can get insurance or doctor opinion.

I forgot the most important thing. Learn to recognize what is important, what can wait, and what cannot. Dirty dishes, can wait. Laundry, can way. Cleaning house, can wait - unfortunately it will be there when you get done doing life. Doing life - those are the things that you only get one shot at. Got to the football game even if you have to stay up until 2 a.m. to get your work done. Go to the partk on a pretty day even if your house is a disaster area. Play in the rain with your children even if you want them to stay clean. They will not remember how many times you washed their clothes or mopped the floor; they will remember looking and seeing your face as they slide down the slide; they will be able to tell other people how many times you have played outside with them. When we do life, we pass a legacy on that nothing can break. When we do house work, if just has to be done again.
I hope this encourages you. Remember, you will not always get it right, but as long as you learn to say "I'm sorry" and do not quit, you will always be a hero to your children. I know. My 2 kids are now in college and I can see the results.
If you need someone to stand shoulder to shoulder with you, I am willing.

You can probably get these appendices at Dictaphone Corp website. If not, let me know if you need more help. I have the Correction Editor Manual and a list of all of the Quick Keys.
Forgot that one! (sm)
I never watched it when it was on but I got hooked on the reruns. How many years was that show on? It seems like I hadn't seen enough when they were showing reruns of the reruns I had already seen. That is a good one.
Oh, more I forgot!
I loved Sisters. And remember Once and Again. I loved that!
Forgot one!!!...
Sooner or Later with Rex Smith and Denise Miller from 1978 or 1979. Please tell me I am not the only one who remembers this movie. All the big hair (guys and girls!), short, short jogging shorts with knee high socks (on the guys!) and the jeans so tight it is a wonder they could sit down! Love that movie!
I forgot about that sm
I vaguely remember that movie. I loved Rex Smith. Had my hair cut like his. Soooo cute.

The version I have does have dosages. I would not buy the book, just the CD. I hardly ever crack open a book anymore as it takes literally seconds to hunt for a drug or word in the CD versions. Save your money there :)I did a search on the internet and you guys are referring to the same program I am so I'm not sure why yours isn't working for you like mine is working for me, unless it's the version that is causing the problems?
Forgot . . .
The new girls in our office got their jobs because the school called and asked if they could extern for six weeks - they did not get paid. Then we hired them.

this is where you can work using ICs to your advantage. Just as they are not obligated to do the work, you are not obligated to use them. Usually, when they see less work coming, they either get it together or move on. And the latter is for the best if they miss TATs repeatedly, which puts your client relationships in jeopardy. Again...JMO and experience.
BTW, my approaches may sound inflexible, but I must be doing something right; I have a waiting list of experienced MTs, including former colleagues, who want to work with me. And all my clients but two are by client referral.

I forgot to say that we never run low on work.
It is not bad for everyone. I get a little tired of hearing the same tirade over and over. If you are so unhappy with where your field is headed, just move on.

Actually, I figured 43% went to everybody (FICA, state, and feds) based on my 9.83 cpl. Don't know about state, but with 25% coming out you would need (9)/(0.75) or 12 cpl; at 35% coming out you would need (9)/(0.65) or 13.8 cpl.
11 cpl would allow for 19% coming out.
Hopes this make sense.

If the hospital uses templates built into Editscript, can you say big money real fast! Also there is a feature called samples where all reports at the hospital for a certain time period are stored. So if you have an operative report that is transcription instead of VR, you can search by the doctor's name and cut and paste say a previous lap chole or something and save your fingers!

As far as hourly pay, sorry, but I don't know anything but my own. However, a recent surgery in AHIMA Journal showed an average starting yearly wage of about 38,000 and up to almost 60,000 or more with experience. Keep in mind that is a national average and a lot depends on where you live.

we also have a lot of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, FSA, HSA with company match contributions of to $1000 per individual, long term care insurance, 401K matching, no fees, PTO plus additional sick, nice differentials and holiday bonuses. That's all I can think of, but it's a nice bunch of benefits.

A really good idea is to make a folder in your Favorites called Physician Names or some such and save each web site you come across in that folder. Or if you have accounts in different states, you could make a folder for each state and put the web site for physicians' names in there along with web sites for cities and states, hospitals, clinics, etc. so that you don't have to search anew every time you look for something.
Sorry, forgot something...
I forgot to tell you, the main way I have been able to increase my speed working in InScribe is to memorize all the keyboard shortcuts I can. I use my mouse only for things that have no keyboard shortcut. I also keep an ongoing list of words/phrases to add to AutoText, and I wait and enter 20-30 at a time, since that is one pain in the rear end aspect of InScribe. I hate the AutoText being so many steps just to add one thing.
