More or less VR is still in the beginning stages and doctors are not very enthusiastic about this idea, so I read and heard.
As we already stated VR is far from perfect and puts still a lot of strain on the MT editing VR.
But VR is the future of medical transcription and the sooner MTs jump on board the better it is for them; VR technology will get better and better.
I heard that some doctors even prefer to do their own dicating a n d editing and if the VR technology improves, a lot of them will do it.

Isn't every MT who does VR editing a 'low-key' QA, correcting the VR system?
And I would disagree with what I often read by people who advertise VR, that VR 'completely' obsoletes keyboarding. This is definitely not the case; it minimizes but does not erase it. Sometimes it is better to delete the whole sentence VR produced and type it anew than make all the necessary deletions.

One thing I would suggest is the electronic version of Stedman's Orthopedic word book and the Neurology word book. There are others too. Sure beats looking through a paper copy and more professional as it looks as if you are working on the computer instead of stopping and looking in a book. This saves me time also. Again I am sure you will do great! Best wishes!

Anyone can recommend headphones--good to great sound--Help-- See inside
Hi everyone. I have a need for some headphones with great sound. Years ago at Radio Shack for approximately $50.00 you could get the best headphones, like the CIA uses for listening I think :) The sound was fantastic and far better than our MT headphones.
Well, now I have an account with very unclear, low volume. I just need better sound coming to the ears. Like in the olden days when I just typed because I could actually hear what they were saying!

'We have to stay ahead of the technology', sure we have to, because if the technology gets better than the human MT, then technology renders the MT obsolete.
So it is all about striking a balance, like...'be good, but don't get better than I am because this would eliminate me.'
I think that in the years to come this will be the future of VR and technology will prevail.

Hey, I know what you're talking about. Before I know it, a half hour has passed and there goes my required line count for the night. It's hard to give up though once you have invested some time in trying to find the right word and I have a real hang-up about using blanks and/or sending report to QA, I try TOO hard sometimes to reach 100% accuracy, wish I could say the same about reaching my line count. Google is a lot faster than searching through the books though,
Trish, I like you but I totally disagree that MTTest is the best
way to find a good MT. I know as fact my way works and it does not waste hours of a person's time. I get good people because I know what to ask and how to screen people. If more recruiters knew how to do it, they would not have to waste all that time too

I don't know about "natural" approaches for the house. I have always used flea bombs in the past before the miracle of Advantage and Frontline changed my life. Have not had a flea problem at all since I began using those products about 10 years ago, dose all the dogs religiously once a month with the Frontline Plus except in Dec.-Feb. to save a few bucks and because the ground is generally frozen by then and no fleas are scurring about. -- Hope you get flea free soon.

Vonage about 6 months now and I love it. The only mistake I made was trying to keep my original phone # - I wouldn't recommend that. You have a temp # for a while, and the other provider can fight for the old #, etc. Go to vonage. com. They have new features all the time! There is even a new soft phone that is a phone on your screen. You don't need a real phone when working - just headset. It has 800 #s you can have very inexpensively - great voice mail. You get emails when you have new messages, etc. I only wish I had used them a year ago! Nothing but good things to say, and I complain about everything!

You should feel great as a transcriptionist if they think your work is that great!!!
It is not your fault they approached you. I think it would be a different storey if you were the one searching for the job to take away from a company. They obviously want to get rid of the company and if you didn't take the job they would probably ask someone else. You should enjoy the better position and not feel guilty!!

Original poster - I completely agree with this answer, especially the part about finding yourself and using all that you have learned intellectually and connecting that to something that you will also enjoy with your heart!! I was hired by MQ to work at home. It took four months for me to complete the program. I passed MQ's test and was hired as a regular employee, not a trainee or intern. They were confident I could do the job based on my test scores and previous nonmedical work experience.

I'm an SE with them. Yep, I have a schedule but it's compacted into 3 days. I'm allowed to work all I want past my line requirement. Usually, I do get on at the end of the payperiod to see what extra dollars I can get on my check. I was encouraged to do that.
My prod sup said that they especially have so many people who won't pull their schedules and won't cover weekends that she'd never deny me work.
Didn't know they had ICs as well. Thought SEs like me were the only ICs MQ had.

This has all the dictionaries if you are in doubt of a word. One of the best sources around. Also includes medical dictionaries too, though arousable is not one I would look in the medical dictionary for as it can be verified in Webster's or any of the other good dictionaries.

It is so easy to convince yourself you cannot make as much money at a different company or on a different account, or never find anything better, so you stay where you are, taking all the abuse in the world. In management, this is called the Golden Handcuff, and they rely on it to keep the same employees, never give a raise, never give respect, and just continue to walk all over you.
In this profession you are very mobile if you can transcribe at all. It may take a month to get used to a new system, a new account, or whatever, but your self respect is worth it in the end. There are a lot of companies out there that actually do appreciate employees, and it certainly does not seem to be any of the companies who are mentioned frequently on these boards.
I changed jobs about a month ago, thought I would never learn, but in a week I was making far more with a small MTSO than I ever did with a large company. Treat yourself to a new beginning and a new year.

I am saying that this horrible thing could have been prevented. My sister woke up in the morning to her partially eaten chickens (whch are actually her pets) because the coyotes got to them. She called feed stores and even the county to find a way to solve the problem. Somewhere along the way someone gave her the following idea. Her husband and some friends dug down a couple feet into the ground and put plywood straight down into the ground around the chicken coop. This has worked 100%.
I am saying that if this was the first time her dogs had gotten out, there would've been no fault to her. But, since this wasn't the first time she could have fixed the problem. Worst case scenerio she could have a pen for the dogs to keep them in.
I hesitated in even responding because I knew I would get the reaction you gave, but if this could prevent her other dog from being a victim it is worth it (or any other dog for that matter).
My heart breaks for her.

I envisioned renting a studio in the little town near by. My radiology job I have now is with a national and I am making about 50G together with the PT job but...PAC system has just been installed and VR is being introduced. Imaging facilities are facing cuts in Medicare patients (20% of business) so I know they will look at transcription for cuts.
I am still contemplating this. They need 13 and so I think I have a few months to consider this. Am in Visalia.

I worked with EditScript and tried using the same thing you did and it didn't work for me. I had a new computer without a 9-pin port, so I just returned the USB adapter and went and bought a 9-pin serial port and that worked great for me.

My son is a full-time college student without a car, so it's not practical for him to have a job. 1. Put the keyword in you want to use
2. When putting in the expansion, hit CTRL+K, you will see a screen that says "the next key you type, etc. for Bolding, check the CTRL box, the hit the B key. It is appears as {@keyCTRL+B} and the entry will be bolded. Do the same thing at the end, and it will turn off the bolding.
Here is what it looks like for a bolded HISTORY OF PRESENT ILLNESS:
