Figuring time for invoicing...

I need an easier way to figure time for invoicing.
For example: An audio is 33 minutes and 31 seconds and the rate of pay is 60.00 per hour.
It takes me forever to figure the correct amount to invoice. Any suggestions to make it easier for me?

Need help with invoicing, first time...
I have to count my own lines for the first time for an invoice. Before this I worked with Emdat and that produces a line count for me. If anyone would be so kind as to help me out I'd greatly appreciate it. I want to be sure I am paid what I should be without overcharging either.
This is how the it was explained to me by the recruiter "Only space between words is counted, while empty lines, tabs, headers, footers, standard templates and hard enters are not counted."
So, when using a counting program how do I set that up? (I downloaded the Sylcount software, but could/would download another if it is easier) What is the easiest way to do this? I'm confused right now, and probably too tired to be trying to do this at the moment anyway...
THANKS!!
I'm already figuring out what I can do to help once it passes. sm
I will give $ to the Red Cross, and I'm wondering if there's anything else I'll be able to do from where I live (FL) to help. I've got a pile of clothes that was going to go to the resale store or Goodwill that I'm going to hold onto and see if anyone around here will be taking donations of such to go up there. I lived through 3 hurricanes here last year and am grateful I made it through, I simply have to help for this one. I've been to N.O. several times and love the city, and will be heartbroken to see it under such destruction.
Doing some figuring on your production
If you do 3000 lines per day as you say you do and for example it's all VR at 0.03 cents per line that's $90 for a day's work. So you would make a little over $11.00 an hour. It would be $15.00 an hour paid at 0.04 cents a line.
Not so hot. I predict VR will cause MT wages to decline at current pay. I've been doing VR for over 2 years and it is not over twice as fast as typing in general.
Please help with figuring out cpl difference?
I was offered a position with a company that offers 8 cpl per line including spaces for IC, and 7 cpl for employment status. I am currently working as an IC with another company at .065 cpl. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I would be making a considerable amount more by taking the new job as an employee, since they would pay my taxes for me-or should I take the job as an IC and take care of the taxes myself? I know that this may be a personal preference issue...but I am leaning toward taking the lower cpl amount just so I don't have to worry about the taxes I would pay quarterly. Any opinions would be very much appreciated!
Ohh, someone gave formula for figuring out

Figuring line rate
Hello my fellow MTs, all of whom seem to be so much more knowledgaabe about online transcription.
I have repeatedly tried and tried and cannot figure out how to calculate what a 65-character line is and how to figure out your earnings.
Does anyone have any advice about where I can look this up?
Thanks!
Challenged once again.
If I am figuring it right, its about .0657 a line, not good - sm
I am going on the premise that a word is considered 5 characters (you should ask them what they consider a word), so 1000 words would be 5000 characters/65 = 76 lines. Take 5/76 and you get .0657 a line...also are spaces figured in, from the sounds of it I doubt it. Ask questions.
Do the math. I am figuring on a 65 character line with spaces. SM
Getting credit for headers and footers or not, doesn't make much difference in the math. It's simply not possible. Even if you figure she gets 10 free lines per report for headers and footers, she still would have to type 300 lph for 10 hours a day and her hands would virtually never have to leave the keyboard!
Her pants are on fire!
Invoicing
Hello! When I started as an IC a few months back, the great MTs on this board recommended this free invoicing site. They have a version you can upgrade to, but the free version works for me! I modify it a tad each week, but its great! Very professional looking! Here's the link:
www.mpword.com free version! Its MP count version 4.0 or something to that effect!
Good luck!
Invoicing
You can use Quick Books or Quicken and put in the amount by hourly rate or per line. Anyway, works great for me.
Invoicing
I use Quick Books and love it, been using it for 15 to 20 years. I basically just give them a total line count for each day of the month. It totals for you. But my accounts never question my counts so I don't have to provide any back up. They give me a daily schedule, when done I do my line count and put in on the schdule. Enter the daily totals onto their invoice weekly and by the end of the month, I am ready to print. I usually just hand it in when I do a delivery. They pay within 2-3 days. I do not breakdown for letters/consults/chart notes -- just a line count per doctor per day.

Invoicing can be set
to whatever you need it to be for that particular facility. There are a lot of options and I bet one that would work!!
invoicing software
I use Microsoft Works version 7.0. It does everything I need as far as my business goes. I also use it to track my line count and my IRA expenses as well. A very versatile program.
Hope this helps.
Invoicing program
Well, I just bought Quickbook Simple Edition 2007. It supposedly is very highly rated and very user friendly. Don't know if it the same as Quicken, but we will see. Got a good deal though, $35 on Ebay, brand new and sealed, not a return. This is $99 retail. Thank you all for your input. I knew I would get help on this board.
There is free invoicing software out there. Maybe someone

I use the invoicing report that Sylcount produces.

Line counting/invoicing software
I'm wondering if there is any line counting software that "stores" each individual doctor's line counts time after time, and then will provide invoicing (say twice a month) from those stored line counts. I'm looking for a way to just store up the line counts for each doctor, go in twice a month and easily send invoices for those stored line counts. Not sure if this can be done. Thank you!
Is there an invoicing program that will charge by the page?
I need an invoicing program that will charge by the characters in a page. I was looking for something that is simple to use and reasonable too, perhaps $100 or less.
TIA
Any suggestions where I can obtain free invoicing software, or reasonably priced. nm

New Software: MPTools -- Invoicing and HIPAA-compliant e-mail with just a few clicks
MPTools, a new release from Emmaus, is a set of six utilities designed to answer real needs by MTs and MTSOs. Among the utilities are these:
1. Create invoices for your clients and pay stubs for your MTs.
- Select client.
- Verify dates.
- Select files.
- Create invoice.
2. E-mail transcribed reports in HIPAA-compliant encrypted zip files with just a few clicks.
- Select client
- Click Suggest filename
- Select files (the actual transcription, not zip files you've made, for the program will zip, encrypt and password protect when it fashions the email)
- Click Send Email. (In the Sent History, each file you've sent is separately listed with abundant information about it: to whom sent, date and time, name of the email, name of the zip file, etc.)
3. Unzip / zip files, even password protected ones, automatically.
4. Print files anywhere on your network.
You'll find MPTools exceptionally easy to use and intuitive. To better explain things we've posted screen captures on the website, and make the program available for download and trial so you can see firsthand how using MPTools will make your workday shorter and easier.

Working full time at home with small children is hard but part time works great
is almost impossible. You will either have to work when your spouse is home or for only a few hours during the day and then more when they are asleep. I work part time at home and my kids (2&5 now) have done very, very well. They are great kids, very well behaved, don't get into much. I stop working to check on them/give them some attention every hour or so while I work (5 hours each afternoon or so) and they get all my attention in the morning and at night. It has worked out beautifully for us.
Yeah, our choc. lab does that from time to time - makes it interesting!- nm

Cannot legally require you to commit time to them as an employee and then not pay you for that time.

full-time in office/ part-time at home
I currently work full-time in a physician's office and have started part-time online. My hope is to eventually go full-time online; however that will be done the road for a single mom with a son in college. My suggestion would be try to type part-time for a MTSO and see how that goes i.e work and money with a decision down the road for ultimately being home all the time. A guaranteed paycheck is always a necessity for me. Hope this helps.
I work part-time hours with full-time pay...
I made over 26,000 this year...
I work a full time and a part time, but not sure about 2 full-time...
My hubbie is disabled and I am the only one in my family working also, so I fully understand. You will not have a day off at all working 2 full-time as that is going to be the only way you will get in all your hours. I work one job in the mornings from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the other from 5 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and do have off one day a week, but if I had to get in the extra 15 hours to make the other job full-time I am not sure how I would do that other than lose my only day off. Also, make sure you have your account specifics in front of you at all times because you will get yourself confused as to who is what and having notes will help in that area. Good luck to you, as it is possible, but forget about your house being clean, having any social life, etc. Feel free to email me personally if you just need someone to talk to, as I have been where you are and still am.
Maybe they will. Give it time. It takes time to set up links.
OSI, Precyse, etc tell us more.
full time, part time, statutory
newly defined full time...
newly defined part time....(which is an added classification)
I believe statutory just was not mentioned because there is nothing new about the definition of statutory.
full time/part time/statutory
The definition of full time is new.
There is a new classification called part time.
I believe statutory was not mentioned merely because that has not changed and they do not receive PTO/benefits.
I work 1 full-time, 2 part-time....nm

its a waste of time yet you take the time to respond?
**yawn time for your bed time old thinker*
Hippie?? What pray tell is a hippie? Im not judgmental..I dont care what another is partying about or with or whom they are with..Im not a cop or the warmonger in the White House..far be it from me to judge another..You, however, by your post seem to have grown old before your time..I recommend you just graze on your back yard grass and leave us **alive ones** alone..**yawn**, time for you to go to bed now, hun? Bye..bye..old person..
I do believe she is good enough, and has more than proved that time and time again. NM

part-time or full-time
I'm curious. Are you FT or PT? Thanks.
4 week's time or 4 weeks' time
Does anyone know this one. I will see the patient back in 4 week's time, 4 weeks' time or 4 weeks time. Can't seem to find this in any of my reference books. Thanks in advance.
1 full time and 1 part time for now
I am still pretty new, so that is all I am taking on. I may take on more after I get more experience, if possible.
I never denied that I need a break from time to time, but
I was just stating how I took her post and the fact that I am worried about how my son will react since he is already getting quite upset. But, yes, any parent SHOULD be able to admit that they need a break from time to time...we're only human too! :)
even ISPs have to do maintenance from time to time--sm
and most do this during the wee hours of the morning when MOST people are sleeping and not using the internet. They need to upgrade their services and virus protection just like the home users. This is probably what occurred.
I recently requested time off for the first time...
(3 days off) and gave 2 weeks notice but was asked by my boss to give more notice next time. I thought 2 weeks was decent, but next time I will give at least 30 days.
Do we enter each time there is a new prize, or just the one time?
thanks.

I have side this time and time again
It's crazy how these nationals or even smaller MTSOs think that we should be working set hours as an IC or even set lines as an IC. I totally stay away from those companies. Also, stay away from the ones that keep you on messenger (like Advanced in Oregon) or require you be logged in their platform, etc. or require a time clock as an IC. This is against the law. They cannot clock you and expect you to work certain hours under an IC status. They are getting away with it though, time and time again. It's a shame what we MTs put up with in this profession for pennies!!!
you have no time to switch from board to board? how can you have time to look for the drug?

Does anyone know if you are a part time employee for 1 company and part time IC for another can you
still claim deductions for IC on your income tax even though you are one of each.
