Sorry it happened to you, Laura. Weird thing - I have a C-phone sitting here unused for years and years, and you could have had it. Now out of nowhere, I need to use it. But let me know if you ever need one again - I may run across another one lurking in my attic! You could have it for nothing, girl!! And with power cord, headphones, and foot pedal!

Too dependent on the govt?
Too dependent on the govt? Then what the heck is the govt for? Where is my tax dollars going? Lets just get rid of the govt and have a free for all..Why depend on the govt to repair our bridges, pave our roads, conduct school? Lets just do it ourselves..Ridiculous..The govt is there to care for this country and its people when the people cant do it themselves.
they can still make your pay dependent on
now if they do not require you to clock in/out, then you are most likely going to be changed to an SE or IC status. if you are an employee, they have to keep up with at least the number of hours you work to ensure that you make at least minimum wage (production pay divided by hours worked = at least min wage).
did they mention that?
since he that dependent on you, why don't you set some boundaries?
just like with kids.
I can't remember. I have myself and 1 dependent and it is $126 every two weeks.

My CMT premium isn't dependent on line counts.
It is a one-cent premium paid on all my lines because I maintain my CMT credential.
She is fraud
Yes, you are right she will do it to someone again. I had read about her on this board cheating someone but thought that won't happen to me but it did! I will pursue this matter with full determination. Thanks so much for your input!
Explain the fraud, please
I would really like to know what you think is fraudulent.
I think that grandparents who babysit for free are just making their kids dependent on them
Maybe stop babying her and she'll respect you more.
I doubt this generation of kids will grow up to watch their grandchildren - they're way too selfish.
Just a suggestion.
see message about PayPal fraud
I went online one day to check my bank account balance and I was overdrawn. I was shocked. I saw an automatic withdrawal transaction for a company that I had never even heard of for a product that I had never even ordered.
The only thing that I went through PayPal for was a microcassette player that nobody else had bid on through ebay. I got that for 99 cents, plus shipping and handling. Incidentally it still works after nearly 2 years.
I called my bank and was told that the automatic withdrawal had gone through my PayPal account for a company I had never heard of for a "computer software item" that I never received, although I was charged for shipping.
I spent months attempting to receive a response from PayPal. I finally received an e-mail that said to print the attached affidavit of fraud, but found that the attachment could not be opened to be printed. PayPal finally agreed, via email, to give me a telephone number that I could contact and that I would receive that telephone number by US postal service within 2 to 3 weeks. Of course when I recieved the number and called it, I had to leave a message.
The recorded PayPal voice did eventually call me back when I was not at home and sent me another letter saying that I did not respond to their attempts to contact me.
Arrrrgh.
I filled out paperwork at my bank for fraud against PayPal, closed my bank account and eventually (almost one year later) received a bank check from my former bank for close to $300.00 in overdraft fees.
Apparently my former bank was going to collect from PayPal for their fraud. Whether or not they were successful in that attempt , I do not know.
My advice is to stay away from PayPal period. It may work for you now, but you never know. After all, they have all of your information.
See, you're just a fraud. Otherwise, you'd answer.

Request that they place a stop payment on the check, reissue, and mail priority or overnight mail
If they refuse or invent unbelievable excuses, you'll know you have a problem. If MY check was a week late, there are many months I would be in deep trouble.
I realize checks occasionally do get lost in the mail. If they are 100% sure it was mailed, then they shouldn't mind issuing another.
Be firm and be persistent.

Block her E-mail, return mail unopened
On AOL I can determine who I want to receive mail from and block those I do not -- and if they are blocked they get their E-mail back as being "undeliverable". If she sends things out -- send back --unaccepted. But to be simple just E-mail her back or call the recuriter if you don't want to deal with her directly and state -- leave me alone. If she is in another state you should not be scared of her but you may simply have to put it out there in no uncertain terms.

I understand. I was not familiar until today that AHDI is the former AAMT. I have not read an AAMT publication in years. I don't particularly like their "core" values, politics etc. I was just doing the CMT thing for myself as well as other schooling/certifications. My way of coming back into the real world after a very devastating illness!
Don't worry about it really.
Take care
No offense but -
With all due respect, being able to stay home with one's children is NOT a perfect reason to become an MT. I believe there are certain personality characteristics, IMO, that one must have in order to be successful in this industry.
~First of all, in order to be a *successful* MT, one must have not only an excellent grasp of the English language, both written and spoken, but also an 'ear' for picking up and deciphering various other native tongues as well.
~On top of that, one must have above-average instincts and inherent skills for research, as this career requires not simply typing what you think you hear, but many times doing extensive investigation to make sure you are indeed hearing correctly.
~An excellent memory; the ability to recall the spelling of a medication or a syndrome or a genetic disorder without having to look it up each time it is encountered is invaluable in this field.
~Last but definitely not least, I feel in order to be successful in this field, one must have a keen interest in the medical field. These aren't simply words we're transcribing; they're legal medical documents. If one does not have a love of the medical field and an enjoyment of learning something new almost daily, this is NOT an appropriate career.
I'm sorry, but with all due respect, you choosing to enter a field simply to stay home with the kiddies is not enough. Without the necessary drive and willingness to learn, one is destined for failure. Unfortunately, it sounds as if perhaps you already have failed.
Please overlook any typos; I've been working 10 hours and my dinner is awaiting me :-)
that's hilarious! No offense, of course!
Sounds like something I would do... I actually did LOL!
No offense, but couldn't you have used
of your own? You could get one from another company, I'm sure, but would it reflect the information you need to know?
For example, if you need orthopedic MTs versus ophthalmologic MTs, asking which is correct in Tenon versus tenon or sub-Tenon verus subtenon would be important and might not be on a test you pull from someone else.
I could be wrong, but I'm wondering if you haven't had to do much testing personally that you wouldn't know what you would want in your own test??
No offense meant, but how do you know this? Again, I am not s/m
trying to be rude--this is an honest question. Is there someone we can read about these differences (production-based versus other)? Thanks in advance.
Work for a company in a state that has no state income tax
I think there are 3 or 4 out there (Florida, Texas, and a few others.) Then you really avoid the tax situation.
No offense, but this made me laugh.....
Where do you live that you get polite customer service from McDonald's? lol. I'm lucky if they acknowledge me when they stick their hand out the window for my money.
OK. No offense back at you. I said it below. If you have an employer you are not an IC! Get your own
nm
Why would you take offense? It is the real world and it exists.
It is not meant to be offending to anyone, just an honest statement made by someone. Everyone grew up differently with different values and "prejudices" handed down to them, or "on them", and we as adults see that and try to correct it. Prejudice is learned, and I for one am learning how not to be prejudice!

I may be way off base here, but you've posted like 6 posts. One says your bored, one says you'd get more done if you'd stop watching TV and surfing the net, and one says you can't get motivated to work in the early morning hours.
And since you say you are a "new to work at home MT", I think maybe you lack the organization skills, motivation, and dedication it takes to be a successful work-at-home MT.
This is just some friendly advice. I am one of those people and after working at home for about 5 years and barely making ends meet, I recognized my weaknesses and took at job back in the office.
Guess what? I am posting this from my work. I am halfway through my shift, I have met my quota and earned incentive, and still have time to post this. Plus, I can still earn a little more incentive before the night is through.
Just a suggestion...
Who's laughing? I'm just shocked that you take offense to the person who is correcting
YOUR mistakes, rather than the morons who are making these ridiculous errors, making the MT profession look silly. These mistakes should not have been made. I'm embarrassed for you my dear, not laughing at you.
i do my job. i send very few reports to QA. Yet I take offense at the attitudes of editors.
Quit beitching. You don't like the whole package of MT editing, get out. And I rarely hear from editors, do not have low QA (been with the company for 7 years) so I have no reason to "hate" an editor. I just hate the attitude here. And now you are hearing from someone who does their job.
No offense, but your attending the meeting in Boston won't make
heads so far up overseas companies butts, there is no way they are going to change. AAMT might as well go the way of the Do-Do where the US is concerned. I heard that they were changing their name anyway. Why should any US MTs give a rats butt what AAMT thinks or does. The only membership they will have in the future will be offshore. I think it's high time for a new organization, one that doesn't suck up to offshore companies the way AAMT and MTIA does. Of course, my view will be taken as protectionism, which is absurd when my whole view is that jobs are being taken away from American workers and American's privacy is in jeapordy when dictated files get funneled overseas.
Uh yeah, in a debate there's usually defense and an offense. Hence someone is always "on the
defensive." I simply posted my opinion about non-compete clauses and my experience with an untrustworthy service and how I handled it and then I'm called unethical and unprofessional. That kind of puts me on the defensive, dontcha think? Kind of begs me to defend my actions...
No offense, but you were unaware of the history of AAMT/AHDI
I would suggest that you learn more about the history and realities of these subjects before calling for a big strike or walkout. Credibility is an issue here.
Name a state and put every company in that state under suspicion.
Tell what the first letter of the company is and every company with that initial will be suspect. I would imagine that everyone who works for that company has received an inquiry from department of labor, so they would all be aware of it.
Why do we persist in setting up companies to be torn down when there is no reason for it. If a company is suspect, then give the name of the company, don't give big hints that cover at least 5 companies, 4 of which may be the best companies to work for, but fall into the category of an alphabetical letter, etc.
Contact your local BBB in your state and in their state if different from yours.

Not mandatory, as you state it depends on your state - sm
or county. Where I am I do not need it; though if I was cutting grass or landscaping I would where I live, makes no sense to me as I am providing a service, but very happy I don't have to have one. We pay personal property tax here and I would have to list all my business related equipment and pay taxes on it every year I was in business. So until I am told otherwise by my county, I will not be getting a business license.
I took offense at that too, but I chose to ignore it in favor of the issue of the post.
I figured if we made a big deal of that one word the focus would be taken off the real issue.
No offense, but your post didn't make any sense whatsoever.
Maybe you didn't explain it right, but I read and re-read and don't understand a thing you just said.
