Home schooling is not for every child, but do not put those of us down for home schooling our children. School is not the only way for a child to be social and make friends. My son is active in church, the YMCA, scouts, sports, etc.
Public school was holding my son back, and yes, he was involved in the decision of home schooling.
With today’s technology there is more options with home schooling than every before. My son is home schooled via the internet and is assigned a state recognized curriculum and can receive a recognized diploma. He will be able to take the advanced math courses, Spanish, etc.
If he was to have problems with a subject, assessment, etc, there is 2 days a week I can take him in for tutoring.
Home schooling a child is nowhere near being selfish and is more of a sacrifice than anything, but it can be done with the parent working. I am single mother of 3. I work thirds and home school my son in the morning and sleep in the afternoon. When his sister’s are home from “public school” he does homework just as they do, and once everyone is asleep I can catch a couple more hours of sleep before I start work. He is pulling straight A’s. My daughter is pulling all A’s and B’s, and my youngest is flying through Pre-K with flying colors. So I cannot see where I am failing my son.
If those who think home schooling is so bad and holds children back academically, please do the research on college entrance scores. It will show you that home schooled children are just as smart and in many cases scoring higher than those public or private schooled.
As I said it is not for every child as it is not right for my two younger children, but it is right for a lot of children.
And believe me I do not do this to make myself fell better as a parent. I do this for my child that was given to me to raise and take care of to the best of my knowledge and as a parent we all need to spend more time with our children other than watching them play sports etc. Sports is not everything and the sad thing a lot of time it is put before their education. How many of our children we make it in the big leagues??????? More focus need to be placed on academics than sports. I played sports myself all the way through high school, but academics was my first and foremost responsibility and that was done through my parents teaching me so.

childs illnesses
I have two children who were born ill - I know how important it is to let the schools know this information - BUT they do not use it as they should - this is more or less to cover their butt - if something happens that they can link it to an illness they are "not at fault". I told the school my son was hypoglycemic and epileptic - yet they punished him for sleeping in class by not allowing a regular lunch just jelly sandwiches - needless to say he was not sleeping he had a seizure and then to top it off th jelly dropped his sugar to 23. best part was when they asked for an excuse for his absence when he was taken from the school in ambulance.
Going on a school trip for childs chorus competition--sm
in March to New York. Went to a meeting with school/parents and told the school board will cancel the trip if the terrorist threat level goes to red--understandable, but also we would lose our money ($1600 for four of us to go). Does anyone know of an insurance company who underwrites trips or tours? One of the parents said they heard of this but did not remember the details or company.
