I was told my Pontiac had a Toyota Corolla motor
chances are--you aren't really. Girl don't feel guilty...go on and work for who makes you happy!
Here in North Carolina they get to operate a motor vehicle at age 15 when accompanied by
a licensed driver.  No, they do not state WHO has to be the licensed driver (i.e. friend, neighbor, etc) or how long the licensed driver needs to be licensed, but at 14.5 years they start driver's education in the schools!  It is ridiculous to me, as they are children operating a very dangerous toy and I pray they up the age before my children reach it, as I do not feel children possess the maturity and forethought to drive at such a young age.

to match............*LOL*........nm
.
Our electric went up 68% and gas sky rocketed. sm
I have gas heat and with the heat wave and humidity now and in the summer, my air conditioner will be running and my monthly bill is $380 just for air conditioning. My heating bill in the winter runs about the same.

That is $4500 a year for gas and electric. So, I would take your oil contract any day compared to my bills.
Wow, that's really high for electric
We have total electric (includes heat, air, and all appliances), and our bill is around $200 in the winter, $100 in summer. We get a break on the rate for having total electric. I feel lucky......
electric bill
Yes, our electric bills have been outrageous. Last month was $199.00, and my new bill came in and is $256.00 also! I too live in California, and we get shafted with the utilities in this state. During winter months my gas bill was as high as $175.00 which is almost five times what it used to be 7 years ago, and my paychecks keep going down in the transcription field!.
About $125 in PA - total electric, about
Pretty happy here, bill runs about the same in winter and includes heat :)
It was a good match
I agree with you....Venus most definitely over-reacted!!!  I felt like it was a staged display!  Of course, if you remember back four or five years ago, both Venus and Serena had very terrible and negative attitudes.  Quite honestly, I don't think they have changed.  I, of course, was hoping Lindsay Davenport would win....I'm all old tennis pro from the 60's and "grunting" and "squeeling" was not even HEARD of!  I know Sharipova is good but I don't watch too many of her matches because her noises make me sick!!!  Venus is certainly vocal enough during play...do they check for steroids of tennis players????  Maybe they should!
I think though with SE the employer has to match the SS but IC is not that way. I rather like SE
status and I know there are some companies that have that but I dont know which ones.
I tried them and when it was not a good match, they were
very rude to me and ignored my emails. Not a good company
Hubby is a CPA - I try to match him in pay :)
x
Do you mean things like Match.com?

or do you mean sleazy type stuff that is advertised during the Jerry springer show at midnight?

My mom met her hubby online.  She had a profile set up and a coworker of his saw it and said - this woman sounds perfect for you.

They met, hit it off immediately, and were married within a couple of years. Shortly before they got married, she was diagnosed with cancer, and now it is stage 4.  She has been through chemo multiple times, radiation, surgery, blood transfusions.....and he has been by her side through it all.  He is a real gem.

She had to kiss a lot of frogs she met IRL before finding this guy.

I don't doubt married men use these sites though.  Remember the story of the guy that was deployed to Iraq and got engaged to multiple women in the US online? They found out about each other before he got back I think. It was in the news a couple of years ago.

No - My employer does match (sm)
The SS tax, so I guess I'm technically a statutory employee with the added benefit of a very flexible schedule that an IC would have.
Match maker
I tested with them. They then called me and said I would be hearing from them within a week. Called me back to say they were busy and would get back to me real soon with the company's info. I never heard from that again and that was months ago now! As far as I am concerned how can they possibly help you ifnd the perfect job if you dont contact me. Forget it, it is not worth the time for the test!
The match that employer would pay just 7.xx%.

Used to, but compared electric bills
I used to never turn my computer off. Then my grandchildren visited me for 3 wks. Because I did not want them playing on my computer (they had their own laptop), I kept mine off when I was not working. When the electric bill came it, it was almost $60 less, so from that point on, I began turning it off between the hours of 5 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. plus my days off (and I get more done around the house as well) -- continued with the same savings. Figured I can buy a new tower for $720 a year in savings.
I think those descriptions are for electric and gas (heat)...

Not internet.  Internet is different because it is not based off of square footage.  To me, that would sound like because my living room is larger than my office, I use the internet more in my living room, which is untrue.... Plus, I never use the internet in my bathroom or kitchen.

I write off the percentage that I use it, that is how my tax guy said to.... I mostly use the internet for personal use about an hour a night and a couple hours on weekends.  Otherwise it is work only.  That is where I get the figure for 75% work, 25% pleasure use.

E-MTS has 401K plus match and benefits. Try them.

When it comes time, i will match what they earn.

I have done that. Found my match. Moved up
Before any asks: MQ.

Before any complains: Every company has those who love it, like it, have no opinion, don't like it, hate it. Every single one of them. It has worked well for me and I wouldn't leave it for anything.

And that's my story, I'm happy to say!

Ditto, electric went from $120 to $205 in this nonstop heat!- nm
x
But, yes to all that you have and the room, electric, heat, just remember though
you have to keep the house for at least a year or two once you start claiming it, if you think you may move in the next year, don't take the write off, just on your text books, software, computer, that you can but not the room itself. See your CPA for further details as to why.
$256.00 for June electric bill in Calif.

Am curious if anyone's else is outrageously high.  Mine typically is $150-200 for summer months.

I keep temp at 82 during day, 78 at night.  Temperatures here soar to 95-100 though.  But, I live alone and have gas hot water, gas stove.

Working at home has its pluses and minuses!  Leaving the air off for 8-10 hours a day while I was at the hospital working saved me a lot of cash in this utility bills.

I use an electric afghan, safer than a heater
Hi: I paid about $35 for an afghan-size warming blanket I think on Overstock.com. I just make a little semicircle of blankie and keep the foot pedal in there. To warm my hands, I use 2 gooseneck lamps from Target, they were $10 each, one on each side of my desk, amazing how much heat from a light bulb. Wise
I just bought a new electric can opener at Wally World

and, get this, it comes with a "Users Manual."

This is the el cheapo $6.74 can opener and I'm thinking "hmmm, am I missing something here?"

My take on this is that if you don't know how to plug in and use a $6.74 electric can opener, there is a very good chance that you probably can't read to start off with.

It's 4 pages!

HOW TO USE: (Page 3)

1.  Raise lever, place can under the guide bar and against the geared wheel (See DIagram A to identify parts)

2. Press down on lever to pierce lid of can (Daigram B). This automatically starts thye cutting action. the can opener will continue to cut until the lid is completely severed from the can.

3 Grasp the can, then raise the lever to release the can.

4.  Carefully slide the lid away from the magnet, using caution to avoid being injured by the sharp edge of the lid.

I'm sure they do this so some stupid bozo won't sue the company because they weren't instructed on proper use of the can opener.

The old clunkity clunk electric typewriter days

Way back when, I didn't even know it was "transcription."  I did some transcribing as a secretary at a clinic with 8-10 docs. Office manager showed me how to use "a tape player that you operate with a footpedal." (never heard the words "transcriber" or "transcription"). Only had a Dorland's Med. Dictionary and IBM Selectric. Wasn't until several years later at first actual medical transcription job, realized previously had already been doing medical transcription, "typing" the doctors' chart notes and letters (plus answering phones, sorting/distributing the doctors' mail & journals, bookkeeping/accounts payable, payroll, etc.) for ridiculously low file-clerk type pay for what was really an administrative assistant type job.

You wanted a laugh though: One time, in a hospital transcription dept., me & the other ladies were in the breakroom, giggling about something in the newspaper, someone made a great joke about whatever the subject was, & we were laughing so hard, the security guard came running down the hall and into our breakroom to see what was going on (he thought he heard screaming!)  When he saw us all cracking up, he just shook his head, laughed, & told us to get back to work!

Hey! I saw that picture last week on Match.com?!?! better check his email
just kiddin!
Have you considered asking your current employer to match the new offer?
Of course before you do that, you would have pretty much decided to take the new offer if they say no.
Make your life easier, pick which name to go by and have EVERYTHING match. sm
yes, it's a pain to stand in line at the SS office, adn the DMV, and you have to fill out forms, but avoid all confusion which WILL arise in the future with a little effort now.

all that PLUS, when I started 13 years ago, electric typewriters were still used (smile!) no message

Wow! I'm in North Central Florida. Last month's electric bill was $165. sm
I have electric everything and keep the thermostat set at 73. Some folks here with a different electric company have had bills triple to quadruple their normal. You may want to do some investigating.
deduct telephone, electric and portion of house payments.
Hope this helps!
Agreed. I always found them to be a match made in trailer heaven

When I first heard Barbra many, many years ago, I felt no one could match or exceed
her vocal range and clarity, until I was introduced to Celine performing at the Olympics. I had no idea at that time who she was, had never heard of her, but was instantly and totally mesmerized by her voice, power & range. At that moment my feeling that Barbra was the best dissipated, and I have become a dedicated fan of Celine's. I just feel that on top of her range & pitch, her emotions are felt through each of her songs and is unsurpassed.
My mother lives with us. We bought small electric space heater for her (sm)
as we usually keep the furnace at about 68 and keep a humidifier going. Makes a big difference. Older people get cold, so I have told her she might want to make sure and wear warmer clothes and don't hesistate to use the space heaters to provide comfort level in the family room and her bedroom for her.
My rant re: "a match made in trailer heaven - two skanks in a crud"

Let me FIRST say that I do not usually rant, I am not a ranter, if something bugs me I take a deep breath, look at the offending item in the grand scheme of my life and realize that most of the time it isn't that big a deal.  However, these condescending trailer park references that I run into are a bunch of crap!

How can you make a derogetory referrence regarding people who live in trailers?  If it had something to do with race or sex you have been flamed by the whole board.  I am sick and tired of generalizations directed basically towards me!  I live in a trailer in a trailer park and I MOST CERTAINLY am not a skank.  I have heard it all, white trash, trailer trash, skank, etc. when people talk about parks.  My town even named it a "Manufactured House Community" and hid it where you can't see it!  I am here because I can afford it here.  The average price for a house in my town in Maine is $250,000 ++.  While we do just fine, I cannot afford that on my MT salary (been MT for 6 years) even though my husband works his butt off at 3 jobs.  Oh sure, we could probably get a loan for a $300,000 house but I refuse to get in over my head in debt just to convince people like YOU I am in your league!  I also LIKE it here.  My neighbors are the best I have had.  All of our homes (trailers) are well maintained, the lawns are spotless, and there is not a single car up on blocks that I can see anywhere!!  Don't even bother to tell me that is not the norm for parks because there are 300+ trailers in this park and they are all just as well taken care of!

Another thing that irritates me is the word "skank".  I have never understood why women have to tear each other down using trashy descriptions like that.  Of course I am sure there are those out there who DESERVE the title but most of the time women seem to judge based on the look of the offending party.

You may think your comment was tiny and I am blowing it out of proportion, but I am not!  It is comments like that that makes people like my neighbors ashamed to even tell people where they live.

I have said my piece and I await the flaming.  When you drive through my park (yah right) and see me standing on the nice, green lawn in front of my pretty trailer with my 7-year-old in the yard, my toddler on my hip, looking very pregnant in my cutoffs and tank tops, you can THINK "skank" all you want.  I KNOW that I am a strong, educated, well-employed woman with a nice little family who refuses to put all our happiness and our hard-earned savings on the line to prove that I am EQUAL to people like you!

I have two IC contracts right now. I recently went back to a job I had quit earlier in the year to work for the other company I am still working for.

The newer job has 80% ESLs. I transcribe OP notes primarily and I can fill in other work types as the opportunity arises. I am frustrated with this particular situation. After 6 months, I am making less money and working longer hours. I am past the learning curve and I should be doing better, at least in the number of hours I am spending doing the job. We have run out of work for 24 hrs at a time at least 5 or 6 times since December 1, and in November it was more than that. I have a friend who worked for this company as well and she was having similar difficulties. The only thing that we can figure is that they are shorting us line count some way, because after 6 months at it, it should be easier/faster/more money, but it is less and less every single pay period. It is not a nice thing to accuse a company of doing, but it SEEMS that way to us. I am fed up with being expected to type every single OP note that comes in 24/7 and meeting the 6 hr TAT for them on weekends, evenings, holidays, wee hours of the morning...

I took back a job I held for 2-1/2 yrs. The team leader has changed and this gal thinks that I should be on call 24/7 for whenever she has work. I might have some at 7 a.m., or perhaps not until 6 p.m. or later. I can't plan my personal life and between these two IC situations, I find that I am not eating on a daily basis, not showering on a daily basis and not sleeping more than 3 or 4 hours at a time. I have lost weight and I don't feel very well. I woke up today with a rip roaring head cold (my first in nearly 8 yrs) and it has already moved to bronchitis and I am expecting pneumonia by the weekend because I develop it very easily. I already have deep pain in my back.

Yes, I should call in sick tomorrow, but I really can't take the fallout. The job I took back I am covering for another gal who wanted vacation over the holidays and if I have to call in sick, the team leader will call me and pitch a fit about how this is my responsibility. It IS my responsibility, I did say I would do it, and I will do it, despite being quite ill. In the past, when I worked for this company, they would not allow me to call in sick for a "cold" without a doctor's note. I worked through many illnesses with them and only called in sick when I developed West Nile Fever and while I was sick for over a month, I only called for my last 12 reports one day when I could no longer see the computer screen because my head hurt.

The problem is that yes, many MTs lack work ethic. They don't take their responsibility seriously. This is not a work as you please career, not even for an IC. I can see the MTSO's point of view, I truly can. Like finding experienced, reliable and capable MTs, for the MTs who are these things, finding a company will treat you like a human being is equally difficult. I sit here, feeling lousy and like I am an utter slave labor with no consideration whatsoever. I know that my work needs to be done, but when I am this sick it is better that someone else do it for the sake of the work, for accuracy and for speed of getting it out. I know that I am needed, but to be the MT these companies need me to be, I also need to look after my own health.

I will also mention that when I have asked for vacation, I have been approved for the time, but the MTSO queues up my work and calls me then I am not on the system getting it done. I have told them I had been approved for time off, but the MTSO didn't schedule anyone to cover for me and I am told to get on work, vacation or no, if I want to keep my job.

Thus, I work 24/7/365 and have for years. I work sick, I work when I am in pain (I have an AI disorder), I work exhausted from staying up all night covering for others who are allowed to call in sick and have vacations when I can't have either. I work having no health insurance and not being able to afford the $125 a month to buy some with a high copay so I can see a doctor. I work without breaks for breakfast, lunch or dinner and I sometimes come close to having an accident because if I leave my desk to go to the little girls' room I get nasty calls about where I am at and what I am doing.

Many MTs are mistreated, and I am one of them.
