Suggestions please to help my homesick sister
My baby sister (she's 25 but still my baby sister) just moved 4 hours away with her husband and their kids. My nephew if 4 and my niece 1. I was sad to see them go for for selfish reasons but I also knew it was a good move for them. Long story short, she is terribly homesick to the point of being ready to come back home and her husband is just about ready to come with her she is so distraught. I work 7 days a week and there is no way possible I can go see her right now. I'd love to go just visit her for a couple of days and spend time with her while he is at work but it is just not possible just now. She is okay when her husband is home from work but during the day she gets extremely lonely and overwhelmed. Without going into details, the way she describes how she feels sounds like postpartum depression. You know how you have all the hustle and bustle of getting ready for the baby and everyone comes to visit, etc.. Then, all of a sudden everyone has gone back to their everyday lives and your left, stuck will all the responsibility and it hits you and all you can do is cry. I'm trying to think of something I can do to help her from here. We talk every day and she seems to feel a little better by the time we hang up. I don't have a lot of cash so not like I can send a huge feel-better basket or anything either. I know she'll be okay with time but I really wish I could think of something to help her feel better in the meantime. Any ideas????? Thanks so much!
Suggestions please to help my homesick sister
Would it be possible for your sister to take some evening beginning quilting classes, when her husband is home? The classes usually run once a week for 4 weeks. I would check your local quilt shops or JoAnn Fabric Store; that would give her the daytime to "create heirlooms" for her children, husband, and entire family either by hand or machine.
I found when my children (now 27 and 26) were taking their naps I could cut out the material and sew throughout the day. When my kids were old enough I had them pick out fabrics which I cut into squares and then would have the kids "lay out" the blocks they way they wanted them. Now sometimes they weren't exactly what I would have done (LOL) but this was their quilt; this gave us a family project, which took quite a bit of time, during which I wasn't thinking of anything but the quilt.
Just a thought.
