Could you edit? My local employer just hired one.
She (my boss) couldn't handle the workload anymore so she advertised for editing help and found an experienced MT that could no longer type because of hand and wrist pain. It's worked out very well for both of them.

Coffee just always smells so darn good, doesn't it? I drink 3 cups of coffee... sm
in the morning (used to be 4) w/Nutrasweet, a little regular powdered creamer and a little liquid French Vanilla creamer (yes, I do like it sweet!) If I'm really sleepy and need the boost, I'll have another cup or two.
Then I immediately start drinking diet Dr. Pepper, and not the caffeine-free kind. Love it. I drink diet Dr. Pepper throughout the day and night, about 6 cans a day (it used to be diet Coke). I've joked with my friends and family that it might be time for them to hold an intervention for me with the Dr. P.
I do sometimes worry about the mass quantity of Nutrasweet I consume each day. Anybody else?

Auto Copy add-on for Firefox AUTOMATICALLY copies what you select (highlight) on a web site to the clipboard.

Please do not feel bad, I have been transcribing for ages and tested not so good because of the BOS. I took a test locally (psych) and they told me to do it their way; never mind anyone else's. I had a terrible time as I didn't know what their way was.I kept asking myself if it was okay. They noticed the difference in my format and didn't like it, they wanted it the old way. I felt like I was flunking kindergarten. It's not easy but you will get a second chance and a third and fourth by others. Just try to learn the thing and don't take it personally. Give it your best shot and feel better about yourself, it's not you, believe me.Typing in the dark, so excuse me. I don't follow the BOS for my own notes. Don't care for it myself, but when in Rome, do what the Romans do, even if you don't like it. Good luck, hang in there!!!

Actually according to the BOS2
on page 189,
Always capitalize genus names and their abbreviated forms when they are accompanied by a species name.
Haemophilus influenzae
Escherichia coli
Staphyococcus aureus
HOWEVER:
Lowercase genus names used in plural and adjectival forms and when used in the vernacular, for example, when they stand alone (without a species name).
staphylococcus
group B streptococcus
staphylococci
staphylococcal infection
staph infection
strep throat
So moraxella without a species name should not be capitalized according to BOS2.

Agree with poster below - BOS2 says x2 no space, but the way your
supervisor wants it is the way to go ALWAYS, be it right or wrong, or how you have done it in the past. After all, if you are not doing it the way the client/supervisor/QA says, you can be dismissed for not following instructions.
online testing seems to favor BOS2 but..
my hospital used BOS3. I failed a test recently because I used BOS3 so you can't win.
I do not copy to text. I copy the spf sm
file to a disk and save the whole thing there, update it occasionally.

Usually 3 to 4 large cups in the morning and 2 to 3 cups of tea in the afternoon. I couldn't live with my morning coffee !

Whole bean and grind it yourself. It blows away the stuff in the can already ground.
I buy what is on sale, because it all tastes good when you grind it yourself. But I prefer 8 O'Clock Coffee, which may or may not be available in your area.

Edit Dictionary
Click on Tools, Options, Spelling & Grammar. On the Custom Dictionary window, select CUSTOM.DIC then click Dictionaries (to the right). When Custom Dictionary window opens, click Edit. Find the word you added and delete it. Save the file.
Depends on if doing 100% edit or not.
if you have to listen 100% and you have bad MTs, then it will be hard to get.

A good QA will not do that. Where are you working that you have such bad QA personnel? I'm not wanting to go to that company, lol.

Can expanders help if you mostly edit
reports rather than transcribe? That is what I do the most of.
You may be able to edit faster than
transcribe, but you are still doing twice the amount of lines for the same pay. After some time, the VR will start to recognize more terms and require less input. At that time, you may not be needed at all on those accounts, or you will be asked to accept less money. Time will tell!
Who better to edit reports
than a doctor? It's a nice thought and I'd love to have a doctor as my QA person! Unfortunately, editors aren't paid very well. Most make less than $20 per hour. The whole medical transcription industry has taken a major hit in pay thanks to off-shoring and AHDI (aka AAMT - which was supposed to be pro-MT, but instead is pro-greedy business owner). Also, voice recognition has cut our pay. Sometimes it even takes longer to edit a poorly worded voice file, but we are paid 3-4 cents per line.
If we can fight the off-shoring of all confidential patient information/medical records and cuts in pay for VR, the pay might eventually return - but I doubt it.

Are they coffee drinkers?
I love coffee and would love to receive some Starbucks flavored coffee beans and cappuccino (sp) mixes, some Mrs. Fields cookies, muffins, a couple of pretty coffe mugs, a good book, throw them in a basket and voila!
Oh my goodness! That's a lot of coffee.
I recently cut my coffee intake from three large cups a day to, most days, none. For me, the big reason is that I sugar/cream it to death, and thought I might lose a few pounds. I also do not think that my brain works right when I've had that much coffee.
Trying to move to green tea sweetened with honey, and not three large cups. (LOL)
I think I actually keep my weight down with coffee..
I use the artificial sweeteners and fat free flavored creamers or half and half. And caffeine can suppress the appetite which works for me ;)
Okay..... what KIND of coffee??
I think Duncan Donuts is the BEST!! :o) Although I buy their ground coffee and brew it myself...... Much cheaper that way.
