too bad we can't have regional MT dinners
and meet our fellow MTs
I think it's a regional thing (sm)
My daughter calls most adults by first name, but I let it up to the adult what they want to be called. I don't mind if kids call me Mrs.(last name), but some of my friends have their kids call me Miss (first name), and I really don't care for that - makes me feel like hired help. (this is mostly my friends who were raised in the south who do this)

I would NEVER have called someone else's mom Mom, nor would I even think of calling my MIL Mom. To me "Mom" is very special, and I only use it for mine! Now for some reason, Grandma is different to me. I can call other people's grandmas Grandma, and that doesn't feel weird to me at all.

I remember friends of mine when we were younger calling other friends moms "Amy's Mom" or "Cindy's Mom" but never just Mom.

I agree with the OP that you should have kids call you by the name that you feel comfortable. In my case, I happen to prefer my first name. May also be an age thing, too. I'm interested to read other responses.
Line rates can also be regional. Too many variables to
give somebody else hope that they might someday get the same rate. If you don't like the rate an employer offers, don't take it -- that's the only way to make them listen. It's not the baloney you seem to think it is.
