I cant make out these words at all.  I sloooooowed him all the way down.  Sped him up.  Took my earphones off.

I'm ready to take the bridge over here.  Any clues?  THANKS

Harder on my eyes than my ears but I find it hard to

believe that listening to dictation could cause hearing loss.  Blasting music through headphones maybe, but not dictation.  I've been doing this for 20 years and have not noticed any difference in my hearing.

However, my eyes get soooooo tired.  I've started zooming in to make the print look bigger and that helps a lot.

Well I have a chronically stuffed up head, irritated throat and headache and I am getting sick of
it. Dont know if it is allergies or sinuses. I dont want to be taking antibiotics because mostly they dont help but I wish I knew what to use to help this. It gets old and tiresome. My throat feels sore and hurts. I always sound like I have a cold and I dont.
Has anyone else had this sore throat/tickly throat/cough

It started with a mild sore throat, then went to a REALLY BAD sore throat, tickly throat so I coughed and couldn't sleep, started getting a runny nose, then sinuses stuffy/sinus headache, sore throat got worse - was starting to think it was strep.  Yesterday was the worst; felt like crap.  Last night - started to feel better!  Finally last night I was able to SLEEP.  Today I have felt SO much better.  Not back to normal, but at least I was able to drink a cup of coffee.  Every other day I have poured myself a cup and then it just sat on my desk all day.  My throat is MUCH better and althought I am getting twinges of pain in it from time to time, it's not constant like it has been the last several days.  I don't like this, whatever it is!

I would think it was strep except DD had it too and she got over it.  She said her teacher had it and the teacher said her doctor told her it's a viral thing.

This doc keeps blowing wind/nose hairs/boogers out his nose - into the microsphone - and

sounds cool, huh?

I am physically nauseated!  3 hours of this.   gag

Add to that he can't say *our* alphabet so even though the hospital THINKS the docs are spelling the names, he wasted his time and mine. and when I get it wrong -- until I get the hospital to listen --- they will think I'm the *blank* one. (the board stopped me from posting/ said stup*d is not allowed here so you know what I'm saying - isn't that odd, I can't refer to my own self as that, hmmm)

He can't say NUMBERS.  Getting the drug doses is a joke.  Even the names of the drugs is like mystery science.

He says wrong months, days of the week.  If he's meaning to say May, he may say April.

If he's meaning to say 17 he may say 15.

You can hear the disdain in his voice when he dictates on women - I guess in his world there truly is no respect for women and you can really hear it when he's doing the dictation.

But the constant blowing - and clearing his throat - trying to dislodge that tickling nose hair I guess and slurping that yucky saliva has me just about ready to quit transcribing RIGHT NOW.  .

Today I did make myself a promise.  I have been a good girl for 30+ years, held my anger deep in my ugly Wal-Mart pocketbooks.  When I retire in January and I know I will never have to turn on another computer or transcribe another medical dictation............I'm gonna go to the hospital ......maybe go sit in on GRAND ROUNDS FOR THE LAST TIME.......and BLAST THEM.  I'll do it or bust a gasket.  Just watch me.

Could it be no HEENT symptoms?
I only say this because you say "no headache", etc.
That was my immediate thought, too...HEENT. nm

Ooops, sorry. My last post said "head head." I meant "her head." Sorry.

In HEENT, word sounds like "lith and lashes"?
Yes, this was my first thought, but it just didn't sound right. I thought since I couldn't find it in any other reports, it must be something else, something more complicated. I think I'm just making this harder on myself! Thank you for the quick replies!
pretty much all my docs think neck is part of HEENT...I edit them. nm

Doh! My EYES, EYES opened, lol.

so you're a cut throat
oh please.. spare me... pound what pavement?  Some of us come by accounts because the doctor knows we are reliable or by word of mouth.  It happens; welcome to the world of MT and NOT working for nationals.  So NO to nationals!  LOL
Everybody cramming that CHRISTmas down your throat is as SM
annoying to me as anything. We all know what Christmas is and why it's celebrated without getting smacked in the side of the head with it. You don't look any better than the people who get mad over "Merry Christmas" by doing that stuff.
Anyone ever get a pill stuck in their throat?
I took an ibuprofen capsule on Wednesday morning (for a sore throat I'd had for a week, rapid strep neg).  The first one went down but the other one seemed to stick. It's still there and I just can't get it to go. It's not really down in the throat...it seems to be higher than that. It's making my throat hurt down to the collarbone and up to the ears. I can get it to move around some, but it just won't go down. I don't know whether I should call me regular doctor, go to urgent care, just wait for it to go down or what?
you hit it right on the nose. I was sm
doing MT when AAMT came to be. I remember at the time, they would "grandfather" you in if you had five years experience (I had only three I think) in any kind of transcription. There were folks being "certified" who had done nothing but radiology or pathology their whole careers. I haven't been in AAMT for years but don't they now have certification for just radiology separately or something? Anyway, these folks were going around with the "certified" stamp and could not do one iota of acute care transcription. I took the test to be certified. Kept the certification for about 12 years and dumped it. All it is, is a money making venture to benefit AAMT. They do nothing for MTs far as I am concerned. As far as hiring a "CMT" I would take a more experienced MT w/o certification before I would take someone with less experience with certification. I think AAMT needs to be buried too!
Not to be an alarmist, but did you know they can spread down her throat and into her lungs? You know
how we all here of the weird few who almost die from chickenpox? That's my family.  We have horrible illnesses when we've had chickenpox. Especially once in the oral cavity, I would NOT mess with it and I'd get my kids to the doctor immediately.  I barely remember it, but my airway was compromised, etc, and I ended up in the hospital.  Not to mention how much those sores hurt.  You need to give him/her some viscous Lidocaine or something from the doctor. Please go for medical help!
I know! And did you see the way she jumped down my throat assuming that I was talking about HER!
Talk about soapbox. But I do agree with you
Food/medicine caught in throat
This very thing happened to me while eating pizza one day - I ended up in the ER because I could not get it out or to go down.  The ER doc ordered a chest x-ray (do not know why) and then sent me home with some Prilosec saying that I had esophagitis.  It was a rainy day - two dogs chased my car home and I was afraid to get out - plus I had my sister's four children that week, besides my own two.  I took a Prilosec and then had to have my husband rush to the pharmacy for some Benadryl - I was allergic to the dye - then, and I don't recommend this, I got a long-handled teaspoon - bent it and stuck it down my throat - retrieving the pizza dough.  I still had esophagitis because my throat was now inflamed from the pizza and the spoon handle - I put the chewed up dough in a ziploc and returned it to the ER for an explanation - of course they thought I was crazy - but you do what you have to do.  I have found that many doctors are either incompetent or on drugs (cocaine, meth, and others that they either sniff or smoke).  That is why there is such a high malpractice rate (but that's another story).  In fact, I see a doctor now who is a drug-abuser - but he prescribes what me or my family needs when we go to see him and we get well - but boy is he high - nice, though.  That's my take on the ibuprofen in your throat.
Have you had a sore throat lately? Don't call me crazy, but....

My legs from the calves down, and especially my ankles, have been swollen

since about the first part of February.  I walk around like a "weeble-wobble" doll.

And I thought, gosh, am I too fat?!, eating too much salt?!

Why don't they go down overnight or when I prop them up?

Well, finally I found out that I probably have Hoen-Schoenlein (or something like that) purpura.

They say it recurs.  It usually is in kids, but can happen in adults.

IT HAPPENS AFTER A SORE THROAT.  It is in the autoimmune family.  Sometimes they will give you steroids for it -- but mostly you have to just ride it out.

They really don't know what causes it - but like I said they do suspect it comes in correlation with a sore throat.......and I have had that horrible flu that hit in Feb and I have had recurrence of the flu/sore throat about every 6 wks (as do a lot of  the folks I know).

They say the purpura/swollen legs and ankles can last for 6-8 wks or longer.

So, if you have really funky swollen legs and don't have luck with them going down after leaving off salt, drinking plenty of water, and not drinking caffeinated drinks -- it may be HENOCH-SCHONLEIN purpura.

What is HSP?

Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP or anaphylactoid purpura) is a form of blood vessel inflammation or vasculitis. There are many different conditions that feature vasculitis. Each of the forms of vasculitis tends to involve certain characteristic blood vessels. HSP affects the small arterial vessels called capillaries in the skin and frequently the kidneys. HSP results in skin rash (most prominent over the buttocks and behind the lower extremities associated with joint inflammation (arthritis) and sometimes cramping pain in the abdomen.

What causes HSP?

HSP occurs most often in the spring and frequently follows an infection of the throat or breathing passages. HSP seems to represent an unusual reaction of the body's immune system that is in response to this infection (either bacteria or virus). Aside from infection, drugs can also trigger the condition. HSP occurs most commonly in children, but persons of all age groups can be affected.

What are symptoms of HSP?

Classically, HSP causes skin rash, pain in the abdomen, and joint inflammation (arthritis). Not all features need be present for the diagnosis. The rash of skin lesions appears in gravity-dependent areas, such as the legs. The joints most frequently affected with pain and swelling are the ankles and the knees. Patients with HSP can develop fever. Inflammation of the blood vessels in the kidneys can cause blood and/or protein in the urine. Serious kidney complications are infrequent, but can occur. Sometimes a biopsy of skin and/or kidney is used in assisting the diagnosis, which is typically made based on the clinical findings.

Symptoms usually last approximately a month. Recurrences are not frequent, but do occur.

BLOW YOUR NOSE....PLEASE!!
I am about to lose my mind.  If this dictator could just blow her nose and stop sucking snot.  Can't help having a cold, but even my children would BLOW THEIR NOSE.  Then maybe she could stop choking on phlegm.  A little consideration, PLEASE!
Oh I have one of those too. I just want to say BLOW YOUR NOSE!!!

What-ev-er! I'm sick of people shoving their homosexuality down my throat.

employee.  There are no such thing as raises in this industry.  It just doesn't happen.  Meanwhile, my husband's employer (not MT) told the managers not to expect a bonus this year.  So, it is not just this industry.

The American dream is to own your own company; be your own boss.  Why let the rates stand in your way?  If you are as good as you say you are, then you would find a way to have benefits and also make a decent living.  You don't need an employee position to do that.  Many people own businesses and still have health insurance.  It is out there for the taking.  Even as an employee you have to pay for your benefits.  No employer is going to give them away.

It is a shame you were underbid, but this happens every day in this profession, i.e., offshoring...

I don’t brown nose anyone as I am not in charge
of how to tell physicians to dictate, just handle my end. I only wish, though.
Same here, inside of nose freezes when breathing.nm

I just opened the post regarding Jen having an ugly nose and there was the OSi ad. No hunt here. I
the post about Jen's ugly nose lol

I guess they are enjoying their ad campaign on here though trying to drive the moderators nuts
Blowing nose, sniffing, hacking, spitting,,yuk!

I transcribed a doc and I swear he was sick all the time.  Really gross.

Do you all type when you are sick? I woke up this morning with a sore throat and a stiff achy

neck and my body was kind of stiff all over, but I ignored it, got the kids off to school, and went about my usual routine of having my morning coffee and reading the paper.  I don't start work until noon every day.  As the morning wore on, my body got achier and achier and I started having chills and basically had to huddle under three blankets so I would quit shivering.  I took my temperature and it was 102.3 and I'm wonder if I have strep throat or something.  I tend to pick that up about once a year and amy pretty familiar with the symptoms.

I couldn't bare the thought of calling sick especially because I work at home and I always think it's kind of lame to call in sick when you don't physically have to go much farther then down the stairs.  I always feel extremely guilty whenever I have called in for illness in the past.  Do you guys feel that way?  Like we're somehow not entitled to take sick days because we already working from home.  I mean, I have them accrued and I am truly sick, why should I feel bad about taking one when I actually need it?

Anyway, I took a handful of Motrin and the aching has eased up and I'm sweating like a pig so the fever broke for now, and now I just feel really tired and would love to lay down and take a nap, but just feel like I shouldn't and dread the idea of calling my boss.

Oh well, guess I'll suffer through like I always do.  Every once in a while working at home doesn't feel quite fair.

I've had a sniffler - blow your nose for heaven's sake!

I'm all ears
I am totally frustrated myself and so ready for a change. Trust me, I can relate.
Protect ears where you can
I recently bought a new blow dryer that is louder than my old one. I have started putting cotton in my ears while blow drying, and it muffles the high, painful whine. I suddenly have more patience with styling my hair, so I guess it may have been bothering me before this, too, and I didn't realize why I could hardly wait to finish.
definitely UNFAIR. You are our 2nd set of ears and still MTs. NM
.
OMG - My ears are always itchy - I actually
have an "ear itcher" that I keep on my desk - kinda gross, but what can ya do. I thought it was just me. I don't think I could go without them though, I work too much and my ears get sore. I guess I'll try Radioshack and Staples, if not, I guess I'll get them online. Thanks
You could use headphones that go over the ears
over your hearing aids, such as the noise-canceling headphones. I would assume this would work just fine. I don't like to wear my noise-canceling headphones because they get too hot, however.
My aching ears

Hi everyone!  Just wondering if you all have suggestions for inexpensive headphones that don't hurt your ears, but have good sound quality.  I have 2 different ones that I use and I prefer the sound quality of my little "bud" type, but they end up really hurting my ears after several hours of use.  The other are much more comfortable, but I lose sound quality.  I guess I'm looking for the best of both worlds -- oh, and inexpensively, too!!   (I don't ask for much, huh?)

Take care all!

Ears now beat red and they are off for good.

My ears are not beat red and killing me.  I love the NC and they help quite ambient noise even with the feature off but wowzers.  Back to my cheapos for me.  I may try the Koss headphones and see if they are any better.  Hubby is not working so he gets to do all the running. He is going to kill me.

I have real hearing loss (30%) in both ears and
was recommended to get 2 hearing aids, but did you ever price those things? 1200 for one? So I got one. I barely use it. I can't use it for work as it isn't small enough to accomodate the headphones. But since I got on DEP, the only good thing about it is the voice comes through the speaker right into my headset so I actually have to turn it DOWN. I was evaluated and wanted to hear so bad that it was work related but they say mine is congenital, and with a little digging into my family's history I realize that it is. I do know plenty of MTs, however, who do have credible hearing loss with no other factors. I mean, come on, how could you not? The secret is to keep the volume as LOW as you can stand it to try and avoid any loss. I also have terrible ringing and think that is job related.
My daughter is 17 and has never wanted her ears pierced!
She has always been involved in sports and would have to take them out during a game or put a band-aid over them. I wanted that to be something she wanted, and she has never wanted her ears pierced. For prom we bought clip-ons and they looked pretty nice. I was afriad they would be tacky. She might want to get them pierced before next prom but, again, that will be HER decision.

thin crust pizza that has bacon and green olives only on it and corona with a lime and salt.
Once a week, I clean my headset ears with alcohol.
Then swab out my ears after showering with Q-tips with alcohol on them. Keeps the itching down to nothing, and the ear wax doesn't build up that way, either.
Ears itch b/c of ear sponge bacteria (mine did)

Take off the sponges and clean the actual headset with rubbing alcohol damply applied to a towel, then replace the sponges.  Do this periodically.  Also, replace the sponges every month or so, especially in hot weather.

I have a pair of the earbuds (cheap ones) and they hurt my ears.
I couldn't wear them very long.
