E-Machines are the best

In Reply to: Emachines anyone? Thinking of buying one just for MT/wordprocessing. Pros? Cons? Don't want to p - MT stuff on the good computer.nm
Had one for 6 years solid use, made me a lot of money. Went through a lightning strike and survived that. I have now retired her with honor to purchase a new E-machine. They are solid, performance excellent.

ALL my accounts still use tapes, believe it or not. Went through your same problem buying on E-Bay and just kept sending them back. There is no one out there that repairs these anymore either. It could just be your foot pedal but I doubt it -- you can try cleaning the wheels with cotton swabs and alcohol that sometimes gets the "yuk" off. I have a Pearlcorder bought on E-bay -- after the 4th one-- that works and has worked for 6 months now -- holding my breath but gave up on the Sony's as they never hold up. I finally figured I pay for what I get and those that I had paid new and over $400 actually did last me 10 years which averaged out to $40 a year which is what you can pay for the refurbished ones that last a year so either way averages out to about the same -- but with the new ones they work right away and you don't have to go through so many. I would try again on E-Bay but for the Pearlcorder pay at least $120 to $150 and it is then usually in good shape. But the reason for the "Beeeeeeee" is that it is sticking and not rewinding -- which you know -- so try cleaning it, might work for a little while.
Good luck. Patti
Fax machines - sm
I have a Sharp UX510 and have been somewhat happy with it up to now.
But I am experiencing a lot of paper jams and even though I followed the owner's manual to correct this, it still happens often - incoming faxes. Also, the prints I receive are not always that clear.
So my question is - anyone have a free-standing fax that you can recommend.
Thank you

noise machines
If I may jump in here, they are sometimes also clock radios with nature sounds, or you can buy just the "noises" alone. Wal Mart sells them too and places line Linens N' Things. I have one with a white noise button because I'm a light sleeper, and it works great. Check the electronics dept.
And the only machines who "transcribe" are VR,
if doctors would only treat MTs like machines !!
this kills me, from the MT news board, a neurologist speaking:
What are the pitfalls? “Mumbling,” says Dr. Block, “that’s the main problem. Doctors are used to dictating in a low, monotone mumble, as fast as they can. A person might be able to handle it by going back and listening to the recording again and again. But for voice recognition, doctors need to speak in a normal, conversational tone of voice, just like we are doing right now. Speak normally, and Dragon has no problem, it works very well. It’s really quite simple.”
yes PLEASE, go ahead and treat me like a machine -- and that TAT would be a whole lot better!!!! and yes doc, you would save money too.....
4000 LPD??? They think y'all are machines?..
You can see pix at transcriptiongear.com. Machines are not always interchangeable. You need to ask t

The 'suits' think we are just production machines!
Everything on their mind is how to get the 'lazy' MTs to produce more. They graph it,research 'better practices', hire new suits that saying the right things and doing the right things to play the game. Just once I would love to get one these air headed suits seated and listening to their docs and doing the job just for 4 hours and show these management robots what this job actually is. But, this will never happen and the suits will keep on playing their game as long as the stockholders are clueless - let the employees or ICs listen to a stockholder meeting once - it is hoot! The really intelligent stockholder will ask questions like how do your seasoned MTs feel about VR and getting paid less, etc. and changing their ways of doing things --- the suits have come up with all these fancy named programs that they have dreamed up to brainwash the stockholders into believing that the suits really have a handle on this company and are moving forward. I wish the stockholders would talk one and one with the employees and really get a feel for how the brain dead suits are really doing. Not one of the management of a transcription business should not be a non-MT. They haven't walked a mile in our boots and are only interested in fancy graphs, and fancy sounded 'best practices' crap to brainwash the stockholders - get down to the dirty job of doing the job, they you will know how to manage a company!! I have yet to meet a suit that knows what it would be like to be in our shoes but worse yet they DO NOT CARE how we feel!! Can you tell I have had it with suits?!!
I believe calling machines 'transcribers' is yet
(now AHDI, of course). Now there's a little gang of crooks I want NO part of.
EVER!
You can work those machines harder than a lot of people do
