Don't you have to have insurance to have the bypass surgery or the lap band? sm

It may take her more than 4 months to even get a start on checking into surgery.

My understanding is that you have to have exhausted all other weight-loss options before you can even THINK about surgery. Then you have to have psych eval, CPE, lab work etc. The BMI also plays a part as well as various co-morbidities. If she has until 2/2009, it may very well take that long just to get into a doc, surgeon, psych etc. and then the insurance company has to authorize it to boot.

Good luck Siren, I hope all works out well for you.

Question for those who have had VBG and/or gastric bypass surgery...
I had VBG surgery some 4-1/2 years ago (which was a failure) and am suffering from continued regurgitation from getting clogged since the surgery. In the past couple of months I've developed regurg and some episodes of moderate to debilitating pain which may be esophageal spasms (per my PCP). He's sending me to a GI, but I haven't made the appointment yet. Anyway, my question is this...If you've had a bypass, do you have problems with getting "clogged"? How about regurg?
Is it typical to perform gastric bypass surgery if

Lap band surgery
Has anyone had this surgery recently.  My insurance says it absolutely will not pay for this but the surgeon says he can get approval from any insurance company with his documentation, do you think this is possible?  Has any one had an insurance company say no and then authorize it later?
be sure your insurance will cover surgery AFTER sm
he's going to lose so much weight the skin will be hanging and a lot of insurance companies will not pay for "cosmetic" procedures like tummy tucks, etc. to get rid of the excess skin. Just be aware. Good luck!!
I was transcribing a surgery once, the surgery was over and the doctor was dictating
from anesthesia yet.  Anyway, the surgeon dictating stopped dictating and said "Hey Mary - is this one big enough for you?"  It was obvious he was talking about the patient's PENIS!  I thought HOW EMBARRASSING!  I hope they didn't make fun of my anatomy when I got my tubes tied!
New job first, save sick time, then surgery or surgery first?

I’d like to go back to medical secretary work.  I’ve had cortisone shots in my ECU tendon 3 or 4 times and was warned not to have too many or my tendon could rupture.  It’s been very weak for a year or so and my left wrist is smaller than my right wrist.  I can’t type at all with my left pinky so I think it’s ruptured.  I have Word auto correct and Instant Text set up so I very seldom type As, Qs, or Zs.  I haven’t had surgery because I have my own account, no subs, a DD in college to support, and no disability insurance and didn’t want to take time off work for surgery.  I do have medical insurance though my DH.

I’m debating whether to get a job, save up sick time, and have the surgery while getting sick time pay or have the surgery first without any sick time pay.

I’ve done medical secretary work before.  I figured if I use Word there I can save their Auto Correct and transfer mine.  If they use EMR, I can make my own shorts to stay away from Q, S and Z.  I could only accept a job where I don’t type for more than an hour straight, which is what I do now.  Then I started worrying about what if I have to use someone else’s computer?  What if I unexpectedly have to type more than an hour?

I think I have cold feet about getting a job outside the home after over 7 years at home AND I’ve had cold feet about having surgery!  Can someone help me think this through logically?  I can’t think straight when my feet are cold.

Surgery/Plastic Surgery Transcription
Hello. I am considering taking a position in the field of plastic surgery. Can anyone recommend a way to pick up on the terminology FAST?
He isn't getting the gastric bypass...
He decided against it. I can't remember why. Now he's just following a better diet.

has anyone had a gastric bypass...sm
My husband has just been approved by insurance to have a gastric bypass, but I am trying to find other people who have had it and if they are happy or wish they had never had it done.  He is an extremely large man with many problems including a massive stroke several years ago that makes it very hard for him to exercise at all, especially as big as he has gotten.  I know this surgery will be a total lifestyle change for us, as our main pass time is going out to eat.  I just want to know of any success stories, horror stories, whatever before we make the final committment to surgery.  Thanks.
Gastric bypass
I had gastric bypass surgery three years ago.  It has changed my life.  I am very happy and content, something that I never thought that I would ever say about myself.  I had a lot of life styles changes to make, (like giving up chocolate), the consequences were horrible if I ate too much!  I am enjoying my children and my husband  more than ever.  If he follows his doctors instructions and does what he is supposed to do it will be successful for him.  It is not easy, but everyday gets better.  Good luck to your husband and to you!
I had gastric bypass 2+ years ago...
My experience has been tremendous.  I am able to do all kinds of things with my kids and my mental well being made it more than worth my while.  It is a huge decision to make and you must follow postop orders, especially the vitamin supplements.  Be sure your surgeon is experienced, i.e. more tha 100+ surgeries.  Mine was the pioneer in the field, an excellent surgeon.  I had absolutely no complications and continue to feel great.  There will always be some foods that my body does not agree with, but that's okay, life is good.  This is a big "family" decision too because support is key.  Having been heavy all my life, at 43 I am now a healthy person, which was my goal, to be healthy and live a long time for me and my family.  All the best!  Email me if you'd like
Medifast vs gastric bypass
I've done both. All the weight returned when I eventually went of Medifast. And because I was not able to change my eating habits after gastric bypass, I have regained almost all the weight I lost again (100 pounds). I can still only eat small amounts of food at one time, but I am an emotional eater and a grazer - being a grazer is deadly for someone who works from home.
You might need to bypass the USB hub and plug directly in. sm
I have had this problem with other USB devices.  I just switch around until I find one that will work in hub.  I don't use EMDAT so don't know if that's the problem.  Maybe someone else can shed some light on this.
Gastric bypass patient here
Hi There,

If you would like to coorespond with someone who has been there, done that...please feel free to email me. Send me an email by clicking on the reply by email link as I dont want to post my email address here. I will tell you this though....I had gastric bypass surgery almost 6 years ago and have gone from a size 28 to a size 10 and is it absolutely the most wonderful thing I've done for myself. I KNOW where you are coming from as far as sneaking food and being depressed!!!
weight loss and bypass

Hi!  Several things here - 1)You are on COBRA now, is the insurance your husband has group or individual?  If it group and you are on COBRA, then you are considered covered with no lapse in coverage and they HAVE to take you!  I don't think they have to cover you if it is not a group policy.

2) Gastric bypass - my brother had one at 605 pounds.  I need one, but my insurance wouldn't cover and I can't afford it, so I won't do that.  But if you live in Arkansas, I have the name of a fantastic doctor  - the one that did my brother's!

Not only that, her husband is thinking of getting gastric bypass
and he's NOT that big, IMO.
All MTs should band together
and do something (not sure what) about this! This is a disgusting tragedy. I was averaging $19 to 20 per hour and now that our hospital uses that Cheating MQ program, I can't even get 13.50 and am ACTUALLY GETTING MORE REPORTS DONE WITH THE GREAT DQS PROGRAM!!

So, the hospital is getting much more work for much less money out of ME. This has to change! I'm looking, though.
Lap band
Attended a seminar in Fl, cost is about 18,000, most insurance will not pay. Recuperation time is much shorter, can go back to work in 2-3 days, lose about 2 lb a week, if you lose too much band is adjusted - after about 18 months you catch up with someone who has had gastric bypass because their weight loss is mostly in the beginning.
S-marked band Is this right???

S-marked band
Esmarch bandage
I think the name of the band was "Live".
I think the name of the band was "Live".
I saw an infomercial (sp?) on LAP-BAND sm

surgery.  It sounds pretty interesting--a lot less invasive than gastric bypass surgery.

Has anyone here ever had it done?  I wonder how expensive it is since I'm sure most insurance companies won't pay for it and whether or not it really works.

Here's 2 facts- the Lap-Band.....sm

The risks of the Roux-en-Y include organ failure and death.

The risks of the Lap-Band do not include organ failure and death.

I type this everyday for 2 years now so the facts come from the professionals and not me.

I bet other insurance carriers have insurance for their employees. Why not Wal-Mart? nm

Possibly Esmarch band?
Google is a good resource for looking up terminology.
Get a belly band. They sell them on e-bay! sm
There is a thing called a belly band. Breeders use these for their males to prevent them from hiking in the house. It is a band that goes around their belly and you put a mini pad or panty liner to absorb the "wee wee" They are usually between $8 to 10 and are machine washable and you can get the mini pads or panty lines for about $1 per package. I used doggy diapers on my girl puppies when they were small and also when they are in heat. They work great! I especially used them when we went to stay at a relative's house and she had brand new carpet and my shih-tzu was just a baby and not yet potty trained. Hope this helps you. Just try searching the web or e-bay for belly bands or doggie diapers. For a male, you want a belly band.
The band is Fuel, the same Hemorrhage he did
was by them.   I just wish this stuff would go away.  Good Lord there at thousands of things more important like AIDS, world peace, hunger, genocide.
I agree. When my DD was in school band, I was better SM
about remembering Memorial Day, as she has to march in several parades. Now, it just seems like it is another day for everyone to drink.
The #1 reason to wear an arm band.

My doc says "I did a rectal exam to make sure we had the right patient".

There has to be an easier way.......

Rock band names (sm)
For medical terminology as band names, I've always been fond of:

Stable to Rock
and
Uterine Cry (Goth, I think)
Here are 2 good links for Lap Band forums. sm

And I can become a nurse without training because I have experience in Band-Aid applications!! nm

The Band is awesome. Glad you bought the CD. Enjoy!!!!

This is a band new computer so I doubt it is full because if has a lot of memory so I am not sure
why I cant get into other boards or see them.
Just went out and bout The Band greatest hits and listening right now to the Weight.

I use a craft glove with an extra long wrist band
purchased at wal-mart and they help ALOT.
All Chris did was cover the band Live's cover of the song. He
didn't do anything special.
surgery
My son is having it on Friday in Dallas by the doctor who invented it. He has guaranteed it will work for him even with his astigmatism. He said he underwent five solid hours of testing today and the doctor told him to stay away from the 500. per day, 15-minute exam places.
If you do not want surgery,
You can have your dentist make a nightguard for you, and a chiropractor is also helpful for manipulation. For a quick fix, albeit temporary, you can go to a pain management physician for steroid injections into the temporomandibular joint. If treated, symptoms can abate without surgery. Hope that helps.
LOL and even after ALL that surgery...

Eye surgery
My son had this done last summer when he was 4. You can E-mail me if you have any questions.
Had surgery
I just had this surgery last week.  Go to the surgeon and have him submit it to the insurance company.  If your BMI is near 40, and/or you have other medical conditions as a result of obesity, most insurance companies will cover it; although some do make you jump through hoops to get it done.  Just have to work with them.
Surgery

Just to let you know the condition I am in, and I am not looking for sympathy here, but I had a major foot surgery.  I was born with clubfeet.  I had to undergo a calcaneal reconstruction due to bone damage, and I underwent an Achilles lengthening and reattachment.  I was totally non-weightbearing of the right foot for 8 weeks, and then another 8 weeks of rehab.  Again, my doctor did not want me to go back to work yet, but due to the insurance and FMLA situation at work, I had to go back.

I am just belly aching I guess, but it just seems that this other FMLA person gets away with murder.  I am more than willing to work 4 to 6 hours a day, as my foot withstands it, but it would mess up my insurance coverage, which is the only reason I have stayed at this facility for as long as I have.  Such is life!

I just had the surgery - sm

I waited way too long before taking steps to stop it.  Good for you for doing this now.  Make sure to get an ergonomic keyboard and mouse.  They have new ball mice (is that right for multiple mouses??) that is supposed to be really good at preventing cts.  Taking breaks and wearing the splints at night are the keys though I think.  Hoping that you can stop this in its tracks.

IMO, you should have the surgery before
trying to hold down a typing job.  I need some surgery too (different type) and don't have disability insurance.  I am trying to hold out until the stimulus package check comes (I know, I shouldn't hold my breath) and will use it to pay the bills while I am laid up.  I also have health insurance, so that is not an issue, thank God.  Good luck!
Brain surgery... ha....sm

when I thing of some of the doctors I've known over the years, we could probably learn brain surgery before they could learn transcription !

Lasik eye surgery...
Has anyone ever had it?
Lasik eye surgery
I had it done about 5 years ago and it was AWESOME! I could see better than 20/20 almost immediately after the procedure! After wearing glasses since age 8-9, it was absolutely amazing to be able to SEE clearly!! I'd recommend it to anyone who's dependent on glasses 24/7.

Hi, I had it 4 years ago, my husband is far sighted and had it done 8 years ago, my sister had it and we are all THRILLED!!!
