Are wav pedals compatible with all programs?
I'm looking to invest in one since I see a lot of jobs require you to have one.  I was wondering if there was a brand out there that is compatible with most programs.  I see some ads say they must have the Start-Stop one and so on.  Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.
Misys, compatible shorthand programs

Does anyone know if ShortHand or InstanText is compatible with Misys?  If not, are any other 'shorthand' programs compatible?

Please let us know if your software is compatible with Vista and thank you.

It seems that companies would hurry up and get compatible with Vista, as they would have more choice in MT's in their hiring process.

once you use Express scribe to program it should work with any USB compatible software too.

x

They are software programs such as sm
Shorthand, that allow you to make abbreviations for words, sentences and even entire text; then save them as a file.

There are other Expanders programs out there too, but I believe ShortHand is used most often.

As I am also old, that's the best I can do. I've been using them for years, started out using Flashforward in WP5.1.
These are not really platforms--they are software programs
A transcription platform is really a computer network that operates in a different way, usually involves having to log into to secure server that allows for file transfers of voice recordings and transcribed documents. They usually have an embedded software application for transcription, and most times has capabilities to allow replay of dictation file from within that system, which creates a lot of the foot pedal discrepancies because they are all not the same setup. MTs and MTSOs that don't have their own company platform (network)can subscribe to these services to be 100% compliant. These are refered to as TASPs or ASPs. Some examples would be like Emdat, Scribe, Escription, Bayscribe, MTWorld, etc. There are other services that allow for secure upload/download digital recordings and upload of transcribed files that do not have an embedded platform--Metroscript, Novuscript, MyDocsOnline, which are more like glorified FTP services. They are secure in the Transfer function but not 100% technically HIPAA secure because the MT is able to download the files directly to their own system to do the transcription, usually saving a copy on the PC hard drive. HIPAA says work should be done on a secure network system and that the MTs doing the transcription shouldn't be able to save anything to their own PC hard drive, or at least erase it when done. You may already know this, but I just thought I'd clarify your questions regarding the transcription software programs you mentioned. Peace.
..other more automated software programs. For testing
s
I agree that it's mediocre. There are better software programs out
there for playing/transcribing sound files. However, those programs cost money.
I believe most of the MT software programs have a build it "cannot edit"
mechanism,so that once a document has been signed; electronically or otherwise, it cannot be altered.  Regarding Addundums, if you were not the original Transcriptionist who typed the document, most companies want  you to bypass it  in the pool, which will then be reassigned to the original tramscriptionist.  It's not good company policy reading and or making an addenda to anyone else's report other than your own.

Also regarding foot pedals and antivirus software programs
You can also try to find foot pedals on ebay, there they are much cheaper, I know, everybody knows this.

I think every antivirus software 'works' with any platform.
Why should it make a difference?
I do not think that the companies mean that some antivirus softwares DO NOT WORK with their platforms, they just ask for the safest and believe tht these 2, Norton and McAfee are the safest.

I work with Escription/Editscript and it is strongly recommended by my employer that either Noton or McAfee is downloaded and paid for.

I have McAfee, because, be;ieve it or not, MTSOs see these 2 as sefest.

Now I am expecting to be bashed by certain MTs for my 'rude' comment.
Never mind.
Word Expander Programs - Are there any expander programs that are easy to use and learn
that are similar to the MS Word expander?  I prefer something very simple.  I like MS Word expander; however I have gone over my limits and cannot add any more shortcuts so I need a program that will hold a larger amount of shortcuts.   Many thanks.
Yeah, you're right. Who cares who licenses your software? Heck, I use all pirated software anyw

why pay for anything, right?

Except that is AGAINST THE LAW!!!

A friend of mine got one and she is finding that some of her software, specifically her ISP software

If u need server software, try guild ftp. If just user software
then try cuteftp, coffeecupftp, or wsftp. They don't charge a line rate and I believe guildftp server software is still free.
They are not compatible. nm.
nm.
Sorry, they are compatible.

It's very compatible with Word, and quite
similar to Autotext/Autocorrect.  That's why I like it better than IT.  Download the free 3-day trial offer to see how you like it.
SmartType compatible with DQS
Has anyone had any luck getting SmartType to work with MQ DQS?
No you don't have to buy it. If you don't have a compatible player - sm
that can play "PlayAll" files then they will supply the PlayAll XTRA player, though they do ask you send them a CD for it I believe. They supply the WP DOS 5.1, Stedman's Spellcheck via email. That is why I said don't let the question throw you, you don't have to buy anything.....unless you are new of course, then you will need a footpedal. Bytescribe is compatible with the sound files and that is what I use, I also have a copy of the PlayAll which I use to pull up the file information I need to transcribe, but it won't work if you have Bytescribe on your computer. I love my Bytescribe so it stays. They will train in in the use of WP 5.1 and they hire newbies too. I started to work for them with 2 months of experience....it will be 4 years in May since I began working for them. As I said good people, I appreciate them as much as they appreciate me.
Won't work, new IT Pro V is now compatible with

I don't know if Stedman's is compatible or not, but it
is considered the best and the most widely used I believe.
Is Shorthand not compatible?

You have to have a program compatible
with whatever he has to download the voice files from his office.
Is Escription 3 compatible with

I have MS Word 2002 and I know that it is not compatible with Escription 8 which is what I am going to have to start using Monday.  I have a Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 disk that came with my laptop.  So....my question is.....will MS Word 2007 Home and Student work with Escription 8?    My next question is do I need to uninstall my MS Word 2002 before I install MS Word 2007 or will the Word 2007 overwrite the 2002?  Any help with this would be wonderful

I mean Escription 8 compatible with

duh

Thank you! Do you know if DocQscribe is compatible w/ satellite? nm

.dss files are not compatible with wav players--sm
They need to be *converted* for WAV players to be able to play them. your wav player may have a conversion tool within it. If it has a *tool* button, open that. It will not automatically play them and saving your files in Word will not convert them to wav files. you have to do that manually. good luck.
MS Works and MS Word are NOT compatible. SM
If you do a document in MS Works and try to open it as an MS Word document all you will get is machine code.  So if you are transcribing for someone who wants the files and they have MS Word, they will not be able to do anything with them (except pull their hair out).
The newest Stedman's is compatible.
m
Hoping companies will get their VPN, etc. compatible soon.
Vista is so smart and fast -- at least my computer is !
Vista is still not compatible with most platforms currently.
I have yet to see a platform compatible with MAC and if you look at the job ads when listing needed equipment they all say PC.
Stedman's is compatible with Vista. I use it. nm
nm
2007 not compatible with 2003--sm
but there is a file conversion tool available. Whether this would affect the normal.dot file, I have no idea. Better check with microsoft word on that one. go to MS website, they have a lot of info about 2007
What footpedals are compatible w/ Escription?
TIA
stedman's 8 is compatible with VISTA. nm

Word 2007 not compatible
I was so happy when a friend surprised me by buying me a version of Office 2007 so that I could have Word 2007 (I'd been slugging along using Word 2000 which was sooo slow).

But now that I'm actively job hunting, I'm seeing more and more ads stating that various platforms are NOT compatible with Word 2007!

Does anyone know why?
EditScript8 is VISTA compatible
I have them both on my other computer. I'm not sure EditScript is VISTA compatible, though.

Hope that helps :-)
Any version of WordPerfect will be compatible. nm

Also, if buying an analog TV, get the facts if it will be compatible or not...(nm)

I'm getting set up for DQS and I was told by tech that Smartype is not compatible but(sm)
Shorthand and PDR or PDS (whatever it is, I don't have) would work. I have Smartype too and it's a pain that it won't work.  I was told by others here that what is on the DQS is sufficient.  Hope that's true for me too.  Good luck.
Accordign to Microsoft, it is XP and Vista compatible.
n
True, but I've checked out the one I need and it's compatible
Start-Stop is on the list of compatible programs for the particular model I need. Thanks for the input though!
Not sure, but I started wtih a new company as an IC and they said they were not compatible
with 2007 and that I had to have 2003 or older to use. I think the majority of companies out there are not using the newest version.
I have the Infinity, have found it compatible with just about everything, it is great!.....NM

Is Vista and Lotus Notes compatible?

I just had Lotus Notes installed on my PC from my company. If I upgrade to Vista, will I have to get them to re-install it and is it even compatible?

Thanks!!
