What is an average amount of lines to edit per day?
I am new to editing. I have done straight typing for 2 years in general surgery clinic work. I was canned and put on overflow work because my computer messed up twice in one month. It put them in a bind, which I really had no control over, and they took me off the account as lead MT and put me on overflow only. Well anyway, I got another job doing editing on the Editscript platform. It is acute care. I am not used to acute care that much. I only did it for a few months before. I am not used to editing either so I was wondering if someone could tell me what is an average amount of lines to expect once I get used to it? I have heard nobody gets double the line count editing. So is it one and a half times the line count or what? What is your experience with lines editing versus typing straight?
What average line count do you type per pay period. what is considered above average and how long

how long, on average, average a knee replacement would one be on Oxycontin?(sm)
My DH recently had knee replacement surgery a month and a half ago.  The doctor has been prescribing oxycontin 30 mg this entire time.  Husband has been trying to wean off of it and is down to 10 mg.  He asked the doctor if he could come off it completely and the doc said to "just keep taking it."  His next visit is in two months.  With all the discussion lately about pain medication addiction, is it normal to be on this medication for this long and for the doctor to say "just keep taking it?"  How long should one be on this med?
That's why we edit it. nm

they should edit their own.

Not only do I edit everything I read........sm

My husband says I "type" in my sleep !!  Jeezz.... like 8 hours a day isn't bad enough!

Mine really is 2 - because I EDIT!
:)
EDIT? Since when did we have the education
that the physician does and where do you draw the line??
Edit Dictionary
Click on Tools, Options, Spelling & Grammar. On the Custom Dictionary window, select CUSTOM.DIC then click Dictionaries (to the right). When Custom Dictionary window opens, click Edit. Find the word you added and delete it. Save the file.
Depends on if doing 100% edit or not.
if you have to listen 100% and you have bad MTs, then it will be hard to get.
I'm sorry that you have crappy QA. I wish I had you to edit. sm

A good QA will not do that.  Where are you working that you have such bad QA personnel?  I'm not wanting to go to that company, lol.

Hope it gets better and you get helpful mentors.

Can expanders help if you mostly edit
reports rather than transcribe? That is what I do the most of.
You may be able to edit faster than
transcribe, but you are still doing twice the amount of lines for the same pay. After some time, the VR will start to recognize more terms and require less input. At that time, you may not be needed at all on those accounts, or you will be asked to accept less money. Time will tell!
Who better to edit reports

than a doctor?  It's a nice thought and I'd love to have a doctor as my QA person!  Unfortunately, editors aren't paid very well.  Most make less than $20 per hour.  The whole medical transcription industry has taken a major hit in pay thanks to off-shoring and AHDI (aka AAMT - which was supposed to be pro-MT, but instead is pro-greedy business owner).  Also, voice recognition has cut our pay.  Sometimes it even takes longer to edit a poorly worded voice file, but we are paid 3-4 cents per line.

If we can fight the off-shoring of all confidential patient information/medical records and cuts in pay for VR, the pay might eventually return - but I doubt it.

Excuse me but isn't your job to edit reports?
What would you rather spend your day doing???? If you are an editor I would think editing would be your job!
Couldn't think of anything intelligent to say, so you edit?
What a dimwit!
Edit Script, my first time doing VR
What is the average line count some of you get with VR??? Any suggestions this is my first job without straight typing?
I'm well aware we edit..but someone on here stated

How the heck do you edit a typo??

Question for folks who QA/Edit
I'm an IC QA person for a company who uses Editscript. I spend precious time writing down job# and calculating the number of lines for each report. Is this system not capable of tracking the number of reports I edit or the number of lines?

Seems like the employer would prefer a software that tracks this info so they can ensure that the IC's are billing accurately. Any opinions on this?
I, too, edit Indian files ; they are getting better! sm
While sometimes there is something funky, I have to say that they are getting better and better all the time. When they first started on the account, yeah, they were bad; however, it has only been about 4 to 5 months and have improved 10 fold.
QA persons edit. If it is 100% listen, that
depends on the MT and on the account. Usually phys ther reports are lengthy (and boring), but not hard, but you do have to know the terms. I do not do editing by the line. I would say 500 lph is upward thinking. I know years ago when I edited by the line (then being paid 6 cpl), I can say absolutely that I never earned more than $12 an hour (that was years and years ago). I had Indian MTs though and the worst of the worst ESL dictators but I swore then, never again.

Line pay is unfair to QA/editors but many companies try to squeeze the blood from a turnip. There is much to do in QA.

BTW, you put NM on your post making me think there was nothing in it
I think it takes longer to edit VR.
When you type, you start with a blank page.  Excellent and taught that way.  Editing can cause the eyes to get lazy - medical words tend to start looking like medical words.  I think it takes more of an eye to find errors.  I have done VR and did not like using hot keys.  I guess I'm from the old school.
Im sure you are a peach to edit but I don't train, sorry
Im sure you are a peach
Independents who must edit their own work
I spent a few minutes reading the thread re QA complaints that MTs do not adequately edit/proof their work. As an independent contractor with my own clients I must proof my own reports and be responsible for my own product. The buck stops here.

I worked for a national once for a grand total of 3 months. It was not to my liking at all. First of all,let me say this, my clients have never heard of BOS. I have been an independent for 11 years and not one of them knows anyone by the name of BOS. I prefer to use the Oxford grammar site if I have any questions re grammar, punctuation, etc. Also, I ask my clients how they want their reports to be punctuated and edited. The client is the ALWAYS right, regardless of BOS. I will suggest certain punctuation and grammar, but if they insist on having it a certain, well so be it. They are paying me to transcribe their reports the way they want them done.

My 3 month experience with the national and their red/yellow highlighting happy, BOS addicted QA department, had me running for the hills and back to my own clients, which of course was much more profitable. I am quite computer literate, can navigate the internet, Google and even read a reference book.

In my opinion, if QA could find a way that was a little less like a dissaproving school teacher and more like a mentor, then perhaps the MT's would be more appreciative and welcome any assistance offered.
Yes - go to Tools, Options, then Edit tab
On the column on the right side, unclick "when selecting, automatically select entire word."
Does anyone edit Nuance Dragon

I have a physician who would like me to transcribe from handwritten progress notes, but I am wondering if I should invest in a VR program to make this easier on me.  I am wondering if anyone uses this software as an MT?  All opinions are welcome including through e-mail!

what is good hourly for edit/MT
got offered $13-15 an hour - part time, no benes, driving 50 minutes round trip, to do editing after dictations are sent to outside MTSO, occasional MT stat reports, personal reports, etc.  I thought that was kind of low (14 yrs experience).  Confirm or re-educate me please.
I would like to edit Indian work
what companies hire you to edit work from India? I have never been without work, but would be interested in doing some of this editing. If you know of companies, please post them. thanks
Client wants to start VR..Wants me to edit...sm

Ok, whew, I've researched until I'm blue on this one. Learning a lot here.

I have a question for you all.  I have a potential client who wants to start recording his dictation with Dragon Naturally Speaking and then have me do the editing.

I'm just not getting this.  Is there a MTSO that provides both VR and file transfer where I can edit?  Is there an obvious answer to this, and I'm just so new to this field I'm not seenig it?  How would I get both the word document and voice file to me so that I can edit it remotely?

Any numbers to call or pointers would be great!

I edit to make it 100% accurate....

You want lineage as well as speed.....I would do Hemoglobin is 13, hematocrit is 45, and platelets are 200,000 (whatever is in the CBC).  I do the same for the chemical profile.  Sodium is 135, potassium is 4.2, chloride is ...etc....

but they have to say *is* plus *and* for me to do that.  I will never just insert extra words to inflate, but the word *is* - if they are dictating that to you...that is 2 more character spaces.....more is better for you.

Sometimes MDs want them separated.  I have a couple of dictators what want individual sentences.  Hemoglobin is 13.  Hematocrit is 45.  Platelets are 200,000.  I usually give them what they want.....as long as it is 100% accurate.

I get paid less to edit than to MT. I shouldnt

Flyingfingers, when you add or edit an entry...SM
there's a box on the bottom left called "Tags." At the end of your entry where you don't want a space, open that and insert "No Space."
Hazard of the job to edit EVERYTHING we read.

Could you edit? My local employer just hired one.

She (my boss) couldn't handle the workload anymore so she advertised for editing help and found an experienced MT that could no longer type because of hand and wrist pain.  It's worked out very well for both of them.

Good luck.

To everyone who feels as you do, just wait. When you have to edit themm, you will

Help w/ Edit Script & deleting MS Works

Sorry, I accidently posted this on the company board first. So please don't hate me.

I have done everything I can think of to get MS Works off my computer. It has been uninstalled, registries have been cleared and I ran a search to see if anything was left. Nothing left. But everytime I try to download EditScript it says it is still detecting it! Where could it be? Where is it finding it! I am so frustrated. If you have ANY idea of what to do please let me know!

What platform? eScription Edit Script?

How do you edit the spell check in Meditech?
I accidentally added a word that is spelt incorrectly.  How do I edit it?
Sorry, you said Edit Script - think same procedure applies though.
I think the same thing applies, go find where you downloaded it and click on the setup file. All programs will not self-install. If I remember correctly you have to find the install or setup file to start it manually. Sorry for the mix up in programs. Good Luck again.
Instant Text and Edit Script? Can anyone help me.. sm

I am new to Edit Script and am trying to get my Instant Text to work.  I don't seem able to use the ALT = to work when I add an entry.  I have looked on the Instant Text boards but seems no one knows of a solution.  Has anyone here had any success?  Thanks!

Does anyone edit in vertical or portrait mode?
Do you have any trouble with your mouse? I checked my graphics card and it is doable.
The company that I edit for the ONLY quality MT we have is from India..that's pretty sad!!
x
well, it IS work related. I edit those reports all the time.
nm
I'm sure you're right, but I will NEVER edit them. Will be a WalMart greeter first or sling bur
nm
I would not offer a discount. You have to create and then edit each report--sm
to make it patient-specific and that will take time. It will also be hard to keep separate which reports were edited and which one was not.

Once you start lowering your cost, this will not be the only thing they will want a discount for. I do not think it will be a plus for you and in the end you could be doing yourself a disservice in the future when you need to raise your rate.
I believe most of the MT software programs have a build it "cannot edit"
mechanism,so that once a document has been signed; electronically or otherwise, it cannot be altered.  Regarding Addundums, if you were not the original Transcriptionist who typed the document, most companies want  you to bypass it  in the pool, which will then be reassigned to the original tramscriptionist.  It's not good company policy reading and or making an addenda to anyone else's report other than your own.
